David Burke is a mild manner something who tries to enjoy each day a bit more than the last. It dawned upon him at some point that life was racing him by and he wasn’t nearly as young as he used to be.
So now he spends his nights and lunch hours and any other free time he can putting down on paper all the stories that have collected up over a life time.
The main character has no real challenge and gains stats and skills too fast. Then the author adds duplicated versions of Rob to the mix just ruins the story. The character is already too powerful for this stage of the story. The gangs are still in Yonderton, the East is still trying to influence his city and they still have not freed the imprisoned girls from the bird people. The fights in this book are too easy for the hero and he spends way too much time in his head it gets annoying. We don't need to know every time Rob uses his abilities or the specifics of how he does what ever power it is. Too much internalizing ruins the story just as.much as the bad storytelling in this book. Lets also not forget the author mysteriously has dropped the other magic necklace.that.allowings.resistance from elemental attacks just so he can spice up the story from elemental monster attacks. Poor storytelling indeed.
Introduction: Salutations from the chilling embrace of HowlStrom. As I, Kiba Snowpaw, gaze upon the frozen vistas of our land, I find warmth in tales that resonate with adventure and challenge. Today, I share my insights on "Four Laws #5: Untamed Lands" by David Burke.
Basic Plot Summary: The world of Yonderton stands secure, with Law and Order reigning supreme. However, as Rob's family grows, so does the world around him. The tale beckons him to explore the untamed lands and to unveil the secrets behind the menacing beast waves.
Analysis/Evaluation: Burke's storytelling takes readers on a whirlwind of emotions, blending elements of thrill, suspense, and the age-old theme of confronting one's inner demons. The narrative, though based in a fantastical realm, parallels the challenges we confront in HowlStrom.
Characters: Rob, the central character, undergoes a transformation that is both intriguing and relatable. He grapples with power, responsibility, and the weight of the world on his shoulders. His journey, dotted with allies and adversaries, paints a vivid picture of resilience and determination.
Structure: The narrative structure facilitates a seamless flow between character interactions, world-building, and plot progression. The challenges Rob faces serve as turning points, steering the story towards unforeseen twists and turns.
Impact: "Untamed Lands" left an indelible mark on my icy heart. It reinforces the notion that even amidst overwhelming challenges, perseverance and faith can guide one towards victory. An ethos that we, the inhabitants of HowlStrom, cherish deeply.
Hook and Thesis: The allure of this tale lies in its intricate blend of fantasy with underlying themes of courage, trust, and growth. The central thesis revolves around the idea that true power is derived from understanding, empathy, and the will to overcome.
Praise and Critique: David Burke's craftsmanship in weaving a compelling narrative deserves commendation. However, reviews suggest some editorial oversights that slightly marred the reading experience. Despite these, the essence of the story remains undiminished.
Evaluation: "Four Laws #5: Untamed Lands" stands as a beacon of imaginative storytelling. While it bears a few imperfections, its merits overshadow them, earning it a place among the revered tales of HowlStrom.
Comparison: Much like the legends of HowlStrom, "Untamed Lands" embodies a journey fraught with peril, discovery, and growth. Both tales, though set in contrasting worlds, echo themes of valor, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of a higher purpose.
Conclusion: Amidst the relentless cold of HowlStrom, tales like "Untamed Lands" serve as a beacon of hope, warming our hearts and kindling our spirits. It is a saga of hope, redemption, and the inexorable spirit of adventure. As Kiba Snowpaw, the Alpha Ice Wolf of HowlStrom, I wholeheartedly recommend this tale to all those whose hearts yearn for epic adventures and timeless wisdom. Until our paths cross again in the icy realms, fare thee well.
consistent content (with a confession) I don't know why I assumed that 4 laws meant 4 books but here we are in book 5 and no end in sight.
How do you separate your experience with a book from you physical / mental condition when you read it? Let's say something in your life had you distracted or otherwise diminished your enjoyment of the book. How do you review the book honestly if you didn't have a great time, but you think the book might be better than you experienced due to indigestion or a migraine or some other factor? Should the reviewer estimate how much his own funk made the book suck and add a star or two? I don't know but let me say this: I was having terrible insomnia while reading (audiobook) this series. We're talking 2 -3 hours of sleep a night and I was punchy and distracted all day. Consequently the book might have seemed dumber and more incoherent that it actually was. (While admitting that some dumbness and incoherence was definitely there to begin with) So, is this a series to write home about? oh hell no. This is bog standard, boilerplate harem pulp. but is it better than I thought it was? I honestly can't say anymore because my mind was wandering though a lot of it. I don't feel like a missed anything important, and I'm glad that I had this to read while I was zombiefied and not something more important, or something I was looking forward to.
Ready for this Series to End As the Sheriff's power level increases you'd expect his rate of gains to decrease, but suddenly he is having one huge jump after another. His power has gotten to the point where he is challenging gods directly, and has no real fear of anything.
Daria lays an egg and the Sheriff's second child is born/hatched.
More new skills and powers like Soul Eating appear unexpectedly.
He takes a team looking for monsters, and discovers a town in the badlands, where they go and quickly discover someone who knows where a phoenix nest is for them to attack. They attack and the Sheriff pretty much finds he could kill everything by himself with his new and growing powers.
I enjoy this series and the characters of these books quite well, and it's always a blast when a new book gets released.
Thrilling, exciting and hard to put down once you start. My only concern is in regards to the several grammatical errors that pulled me from the story that looked like two sentences got jumbled in the writing.
Not enough to drop a star, but definitely needs closer inspection by editors.
I'm done. This is not a litrpg. The video game elements are largely ignored and don't matter. The "gods" one after another after another keep making sales pitches to the MC and the whole story is just terrible. The writing is so bad. Just. Awful!!!!!!!! I AM DONE. Good bye. Avoid this story, you will spare yourself a ton of typos and boring, bad writing. Zero stars!
LitRPG harem monster girls cultivation Rob Case continues to become stronger and more powerful, and establishes new rules for Mursha. Rob becomes OP, which makes him more attractive to the females and the gods of Olimero. Interesting plot developments. More errors than expected. Decent story advance. Will get book 6.
So few pure harems. I made allowances for the pre-existing, relief-only situation the first two women had and other shenanigans amongst the group during lovey times. Dropped this book once he forced a disinterested wife to partake in sharing. 2 stars only because I enjoyed the actual story.
Good, but didn't clear the 4th star for me. No particular reason, and it may just be today I'm more critical than others; that definitely happens, as does the reverse. Regardless, it's a good book which moves the story along, but it lacked the je ne sais quoi that would push it higher.
Fun Rollicking Ride down the story lane. The MC is getting stronger and the forces against him are getting more serious. He makes a trip out to the boonies and fights a lot of monsters.
A bit improved from the previous book, a bit of foreshadowing coming to fruition, overall fairly solid. The editing though was almost as bad as the previous book though it loses points there definitely. Still, I'll keep reading, as the author has me hooked
This just gets better and better. I like the characters and how they are becoming more interesting and fun. The story is certainly getting more interesting and has a great head of steam.
Follow the continuing adventures and challenges of Rob and it's growing family. If you know this series you know what you get, if you don't pick up book one and see if this is for you.
I thought the mc was too powerful, but I was wrong. It's interesting how the author has agave things yet kept the characters at a level that is easy to understand. Now, on to the next book....
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
And that scares the gods. Humans aren't supposed to be as powerful as Rob has become. The only problem is that the gods are worried about now this effects Olihermo.
