What would you do if you and your family were stranded more than two thousand miles from home and America was attacked?
A simple family vacation to the West Coast goes seriously wrong when Cameron Griffin and his family find themselves in the middle of a strike against the United States of America. When his wife and children are captured, he is thrust back into a world he thought he’d left behind after the war.
The attack came in the form of an EMP, damaging much of America’s power grid and leaving the country without most essentials. While the military struggles to manage a land invasion, the population fights to digest the unthinkable. The American fighting spirit is brought to the forefront when civilians pick up arms and join a beleaguered military, trying to stop an enemy supply line being formed along the West Coast. When a man or woman fights for their homeland, they are often able to elevate themselves much higher than an ordinary person is capable of; for they are not just fighting for the dirt on which they call home, but for their very way of life…
Rick Tippins was born in Ventura, California, and raised in Napa Valley. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired law enforcement lieutenant, he served in SWAT, Narcotics, and Homicide during a distinguished career with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Rick began writing in 1994 during night shifts at the county jail. What started as screenwriting evolved into a passion for novels, leading to the release of A World Slowed and many other titles across post-apocalyptic, science fiction, and thriller genres.
Another excellent chapter in the October Fall series!
I know there are true Patriots in California, but most seem to still believe that they are going to be saved by the government. A few men and women take the fight to the invaders in this one. While Cam stresses over his family, he falls back to a time he would just as soon forget. Don't ever mess with a Marines family or you will face pure unadulterated hell. Looking forward to the next installment.
The writing was generally decent, but there were some editing issues (examples, phycological instead of psychological, two small instead of too small, Robert instead of Roberta, first off instead of first). I found it rather implausible that two Green Berets, while very brave and capable guys, and their few recruits, would be able to continually damage the occupying army. I liked Cam as a character, though he is hampered by a pouty wife who picks running shoes and pink Nikes to walk sixty miles instead of good hiking boots. It was obvious that former military marksman Cam would end up with the Berets. Sadly there was also a lot of right-wing tinged ranting about law enforcement being weakened by demonization, gullible Americans, corrupt and self-serving companies (I kind of agreed with that rant), California oppression of gun rights, yada yada. Compared to a few other books in this series, the tirades were not as extensive or annoying. The ending of this book seems like it is book one of a California Fall series; I hope so, because I want to find out what happens.
I loved the characters in this book, all very military, and ready to defend! I found that there was a lot of military speak, which was good but felt a little overwhelmed by so much of the fighting strategies and detailed accounts of stuff happening. I'm not saying it detracted, just that I skimmed over some of it to keep my own interest going. Great book! A little disappointed that book 2 is not out yet!
Of all of the October Fall books, this one is my favorite. Fast paced, with interesting details and equally interesting characters. Lots of military tactics and compelling strategy, interlaced with personal stories of the participants who cone together to fight for their country.
Loved this story. This truly shows how America has grown soft. Our government has started to take apart our democracy. Except for the deaths I would love to see this happen to our country. Bringing back our freedoms is a necessary step. Looking forward to the next chapter in this story.
I can’t believe I am reading a book I feel like I am right there in a movie. When Cam did his work on the house I was jumping up and down that it succeeded. So great, thank you
I have fallen in love with this series October Fall as it takes us all over the U.S.A. and how it is affecting everyone in the story as well as some of the links they have with other characters in the different books/regions! Makes me keep watching for more in the series.
I've been searching for a book that was worth reading. The story captured my interest immediately. I didn't want to stop reading, I can hardly wait for the continuing story. Hurry, please!
I’ve been reading and enjoying all the books written in the October Fall World as they come out. This one is my favorite in the spin- off stories so far. Fast paced action and characters you wish were your neighbors.
I love the series. This book continues a great story and following different sets of people around the country works. Read them all if you have a chance
I didn't care for all the in-depth military information. The differences between different states personalities was inspirational. I was going to skip this one, but glad I didn't.
Cliffhanger warning but still really good. I enjoyed the story. Not at all what I expected from former military characters. The storyline flowed well. The timeline goes quickly. I would recommend!
A great red and page turner! Exciting story line and compelling characters. Love anything showing our great American military heroes and other regular people stepping up.
Tense! You won’t be able to put this book down! Gripping and so realistic! This whole series is so good, but I think this book may be the best one yet.
Is it good….no. It’s great. This is exactly what I was looking for in the October fall world. Well written with good action. I can’t recommend it enough.
