I like to read books sets of series. This one is no exception. The characters are good with a nice blend of urban and traditional fantasy people/creatures. I’m glad I chose the box set because the individual books didn’t seem to have definite resolutions but used a continuing story arc.
There’s definitely a nice amount of comedy to keep everything from being overly serious, which is good since it could easily have been depressing because of the long story line. Speaking of storyline, the last book seems rushed. Especially a certain romance that didn’t show up until the very end. It was hinted at briefly earlier, but enough to warrant the surprise ending. It’s as though the writer was told to ‘wrap it up.’ It all came together, but the ending was almost jumbled. Still, I liked it overall.
One more reason for taking a star away. I don’t know if this is an inside joke between urban fantasy writers, but using the phrase ‘roll their eyes ‘, what’s up with that? No one does that. Really, no one. It’s rude. It’s difficult to do. Try it. OK, maybe an angsty teenager from time to time, but adults do not ‘roll their eyes’ at other adults. This book is not the worst offender I’ve seen. I once counted 147 times in a five volume series. I’ve stopped reading books because of the use of that phrase. Is it a drinking game? You take a drink ever time it’s used? Someone either please tell me or stop using it!
So many great aspects to this series - all the elements that drag you in and endear the main characters to be your novel friends. The female lead was remarkable with Anderle influence. The stories within made it an easy swipe for the next in series, especially since I got this with my Kindle subscription. My biggest complaint is that there were too many rough draft aspects. It needs that outside set of eyes to note that we the reader either already know the mage and so his name should be used or that's a secondary character who is suddenly referred to like we should know all about them and why they're relevant, but you didn't transition us to them clearly. Best I can describe it is that I felt I was reading an outline of the story in parts.. and someone forgot to go back and replace "the mage" and "my friend" with the actual character name. If you can get it for free, I highly recommend it!
This one is a rollercoaster ride, I’ll give you that, minus the screams…. Hopefully none of those. It’s an exciting and often confusing journey that keeps the reader guessing until the very last word. There’s also a significant amount of humor, be warned. I mean that. Be careful or you might end up snorting coffee out your nose at a few of the surprises. I’m just saying. You’ve been warned. Now…. ENJOY!
As a brand new writer, she experiments on her readers, flaws and missing transitions and all. the first 2 books are all over the place, you never know where you are, it's dizzying. It does get better and the MC core team is pretty cool. Maybe the author can now read a few books on plot and progressions, lay off the boozie Zoom sessions, (as she calls them) and all will be well?
I couldn't put down the books! The characters were so believable and relatable I fell in love. I read at night as I don't sleep well and these books were perfect to help me settle down. I would recommend them to anyone who likes good characters (even the evil ones were drawn well) and good adventures! Thanks for writing these!!!
This was another amazingly fun read by Michael Anderle and his author friends. Thi Of you read this series, you may want to start with the amazing Mr Brownstone series. The characters are fun and all of the books in this universe are linked and amazing. I recommend this series very highly!
Well written, well plotted, wonderful character development. If you have a week of nothing to do but devour this series, you will enjoy the time spent. Twists and turns and head scratching moments galore. I was sad to read The End, as I was invested and wanted more of the characters' lives. More please E.G and thank you.
Really enjoyed this set! Loved Lexi's journey from a dud to...what she becomes (no spoilers!!!) With amazing characters and adventures galore, you won't be bored although make sure you have clear days...you won't want to put it down. Would love to see what happens next...hope Lexi and the whole team appear in other series.....please!?!?!
I did not expect to fall in love with each character. Alas, here we are! This woman van write a very adventurous story. Make sure to leave yourself time to finish. From the first paragraph you will be so engrossed you will look up when the series is done. Beautiful read
I loved this series to the point that I could not put it down!! The characters were so very alive and the story telling exquisite. I could not wait to read in anticipation of what would happen next. This series is a keeper. Open your mind and step into a fantastic journey!
Couldn't keep tract of all the characters. Or the plot, especially towards the end. Too many people and they weren't written about in a way to stick in your mind. Made keeping up with the plot difficult. Or maybe I have old timers disease?
It was a very good set of books to read. At times it was hard to follow, but I wound go back and reread something and then I would understand what was going on. It really was a pretty good set of books. I enjoyed them very much.
I loved the humour, action, snark, and all the side characters, and the plots. There is some garish scenes but not bad.Definite rollercoaster ride.Great storytelling ❣️💃🏻🐺
Started reading this in instalments as they arrived but got sidetracked by completed series (yeah to boxsets and a series completed - the best way t0 read). That said. . .
Enjoyed reading the series from start to finish; plenty of quirky humour - my kind of fun.
This ended beautifully and quite unexpectedly. I love the characters, the story, the everything--the twists were AMAZING! I'd read some of this before but the last book wasn't available then and I don't think I'd have rated the series this highly without it. Very nice!
