This is uncharted territory for me. I haven't read this far yet.
Kyoko and Ren are sooo cute together, I can't. And I hope they get to play in this project together again.

It's too bad that Yoshiki Nakamura fell ill. I hope she's feeling better now. And I (selfisly) hope we get to see the ending someday.

It's been so long since the last one that I couldn't remember some of the minor characters. I also feel like this one needs to have another chapter or two in it. It's pretty short and there's not a ton of plot development.

I’m like Moko and Kyoko’s friendship. I’m slightly bored with the relationship between Ren and Kyoko (and I try not think too much about their age gap with her being a teenager), but I’m still curious about what will happen next… where is that guy she hates?

I think I am going to have to give up on this title now. As much as I absolutely adored Nakamura's previous work, Tokyo Crazy Paradise, this one never really caught my attention. The showbiz aspect is tired, the story never really goes anywhere, there's no character development, and I find myself skimming any scenes that don't have Ren in them (which are too many).

At this point, Ren has confessed he is in love with Kyoko but she doesn't know how to handle it and so...nothing happens. In this volume, she decides that she is too young to date while Ren pretty much decides to give her time to grow up. There are still the underlying issues with Ren's childhood trauma to deal with but mostly the story is about the various projects that Kyoko acts in. Cue new project that we get to see once again that she is a great actress (though honestly, acting is just an excuse to put her in wild sexy getups just like the amnesia in Tokyo Crazy Paradise did the same). There's just no spark here.

I hope there is something interesting for the 50th volume but I am not going to hold my breath. Somehow, it's just repetitive plots and the story lost its way somewhere in the late 30s volume range. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s been over a year since I read the last volume, but it felt like this volume was more of a filler, without much progress. I always love seeing Kyoko and Moko together, and their interactions in this volume were excellent. Kyoko is such a good support system, cheering on and helping Moko in any way she can, especially when it’s officially her job as a personal assistant from the Love Me section. They always act so well together, also, that it truly helps them each show their best side. I’m excited to see them go to the US together for filming.

As for the progress between Kyoko and Ren, I’m just as baffled as everyone else as to how or why they haven’t progressed to actual dating? Is it truly Kyoko’s age? It’s hard to believe she’s still 16 with all the time that’s passed in real life as this series has been written. I’m hoping the conversation Ren had with Yashiro and the one he plans on having with Kyoko help move things along.

I’m still a little lost as to what the Route project is, and why they are test filming so much in Japan in preparation - because it’s going to be in English and they want to come across the best way possible? I guess we’ll see.

The one benefit of waiting so long to read this volume is that volume 50 should be coming out soon. I look forward to reading it so I can maybe figure out what’s going on.

Okay, I am still engage with this series, but I feel like to some degree we haven't entered the next act of this series. It's like we are still setting the stage, like the music you hear in a musical right after the intermission but before the curtains rise. The ending of this volume feels bit like a joke or something like "Really? You ended here?! Why?! This seems a bit ridiculous due to the tone of the volume". It's like we were being series and then a character said something that just sounds childish and not important.

Verdict: Let's. Get. To. The. Good. Stuff. Already! I need to find out who these new characters are. I need to see the interactions with Ren and we need to see the parents again! I mean, come on!

It is so nostalgic and funny to see them playing out Tokyo Crazy Paradise in this volume. Especially once I realized which characters they were - Moko as Tsukasa, Koga as Ryuji, Kyoko as Freya, Ren as Misumi, Asago, Akira, Kako-san, and…uh…the yakuza like cop, and other bodyguard as well. I need to reread TCP! The elevator scene didn’t make sense until I reread it with TCP in mind.

It’s a little odd to have all these Japanese actors in an American movie if they don’t speak fluent English - there isn’t a shortage of Asian Americans to play these roles. Makes me wonder what the movie is about. It’s kinda funny that Koga is working so hard to be rude to Ren, and Ren is playing dumb. Then again, he seems to be trying to show off his English, not realizing that’s it is REN’s native tongue.

Disappointingly slow plot development

So much of this volume is recap and explanation. We’re getting teasers for what’s to come. Kyoko is supposed to act as P.A. for Moko in America, (which I guess is different from when she was acting manager for Ren??) So I’m hoping that Ren will take the opportunity to tell Kyoko the truth and introduce her to his parents. But I’m realistic enough to know that best case scenario is she’ll see Kuon again and maybe Koo will invite his “adopted son” over for a visit.
In the meantime, the story lags while everyone is practicing their English.

Absolutely nothing happened and it was incredibly short. For someone so devoted to this series for many years, it feels like the fans are being exploited as the author/publication company try to extend a series that really should have come to a finish by now. It's a shame. I was thinking it would be nice for the series to end with volume 50, but that just doesn't seem likely now.

Please just end it soon in a satisfying and hilarious way, and keep the original charm and excitement of this manga intact.

Is this writer's fatigue? Haven't seen a cohesive story in a few volumes. Its like they wrote themselves to the confession and regretted Kyoko & Ren not working on a project together so quickly make her a standin on his set. A few individual moments of joy was Murasame almost recognizing Kyoko as Setsu, and always Moko & Kyoko besties. Speaking of which ... who the fuck translated or misrepresented a P.A. as a best friend!?!? That was wild. Were they baiting Kyoko with that designation or did they really think a P.A. is a friend and not a job.

Repeated review.

I am so uninterested in this series, but I want to see it through (at least to the last translated volume; not sure I’ll pick it up again when more comes out). I won’t be making proper reviews for it anymore since my thoughts are just generally the same all the time anyway (lots of annoyance/anger); my rating will tell you if I liked or disliked it. You can safely assume, however, that I still despise Sho and Ren, and everyone else, but Kyo and her bestie (who sometimes isn’t around and sometimes is, much like Sho).

Delicious

I've been reading the monthly chapters that come out for years. But for some reason when reading this volume I felt like I'd missed many pages... It's almost like they fluffed up the content in this volume to include a lot more. It could be my memory is failing me, that wouldn't be a surprise with how much I read, but I really feel like there was new content in this volume. I was delighted!

In the last ten volumes or so of Skip-Beat!, it's taken about half the volume for me to mentally catch up on the current situation, mostly because I marathoned the first 30-something volumes, and these come out maybe a couple times a year*. It feels like it could end just about any time, since the major emotional throughlines are at a good point, but I also don't mind keeping on with it.

* edit to add: it's even less frequent than I thought! v. 48 came out in May 2023.

Idk, man. I used to love this series, but I feel like it's losing more and more track of what it's trying to tell. It needs to finally end. Also, I'm used to unrealistic scenarios here, but they set up an entire fake film shooting with costumes and cameras, just for a couple of actors to practice their English?!

Cute! I love how Kyoko is getting roped into this other film on several levels. This new producer and his reactions to Kyoko have me curious. And A jeaolous Ren too! Yes please.

My big gripe is that with all the characters and attentions so split, it made everything feel a bit muddled. Very little direction to the story. Still, I am curious to see where our adventure takes up.

I had a hard time with this volume because the story involves characters speaking two different languages, and the dialog didn't sound right. Either something didn't translate well into English, or the author doesn't know enough about the English language that when she wrote the dialog in Japanese that the nuance wasn't right.

So good!

This was worth the wait. I think I should have reread 48 before jumping in to 49, because I was kind of lost for a good chunk of it. Still, there was a lot going on and issues I hadn’t even considered happening, so it was pretty exciting. Can’t wait for #50!

Based entirely on the way this series & this book specifically make me feel, I rate it 5 stars. I have been following this story for over 10 years now and I love its characters to see how far they have come and the way they have become friends makes me super happy

I love this series but I had a hard time following the dialogue in this one and understanding what the heck was going on. I go it now that I am done with it but I still couldn’t believe how confused I was.
