Valentina has been picked to be The Butcher’s wife—the most deadly man within the Rossi mafia. He's exactly what men fear, and now she is set to be his wife. He could have any woman, but instead, he picked her. Why? She was passed over by Thomas Rossi’s son because she was broken and damaged.
Giovanni Romano is a monster. After his family was killed when he was young, he spent his entire life becoming a killing machine. He swore his loyalty to Rossi, and what he wants more than anything is Valentina. He saved her, and now he'll allow her the chance to live and thrive.
Valentina never expected to fall for her husband. He's terrifying and dangerous, but the moment she's close to him, he sets a fire inside her. When she’s with him, she feels complete and never wants to be without him.
Now it is up to Giovanni to protect his wife when it matters most, or will he be doomed to lose the only woman he has ever loved?
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
DNF This book needs an editor. It’s all written in passive language and it’s very awkward to read. ‘They were looking at her like she was to be pitied’ no, they were looking at her with pity. Succinct, active language please. My brain hurts. There is no way I can get through this.
"The Butcher's Wife" is the story of Valentina and Giovanni.
When the heroine is married off to the hero, she expects to be another pawn in a world where men hold all the power. She has escaped a harsh kidnapping and has had an abusive childhood. However, to her surprise, the hero is completely devoted to her and spends the book proving his love to her.

This was so adorable. I know that's a weird thing to say for a mafia novella but it's the truth. These two made me smile and swoon and I was so invested in their HEA. I wish I had 100 pages more of them but the author did such a great job of getting me invested in such a short time.
I thought it was romantic and steamy while still being moving and ending with a bang. Literally... haha!
I will absolutely read more of Sam Cresent after this.
The Butcher's Wife was an ok book for me. I thought it was too short and moved at lightning speed. While I enjoyed Valentina and Giovanni together, I wish there was more connection between the two instead of almost every situation leading to intimate times. Overall, if you're in need of a short read with not much going on this may be perfect for you.
***I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own***
This was a short quick mafia age-gap read. The writing was good and an easy fit but this did move at an incredibly fast pace so did feel a tad rushed. I still mostly liked it and would definitely read this author again but would probably prefer a longer one next time as novellas are not my preferred choice of stories.
This was quite insta in nature which also isn’t my preferred trope. It’s an arranged marriage-type story and the age-gap here is quite a substantial one Valentina is twenty-one too Giovanni’s forty I myself appreciated this type of dynamic. There’s a limited underlying story which does provide some action but the main focus here is on the couple themselves. The heat is also high with this one and Giovanni despite being named the Butcher is an absolute sweetie when it comes to his wife.
Overall I enjoyed this though there were no major shocks or angst it did provide plenty of warm feels when it came to the romance. Some of the character portrayals seemed a bit one-dimensional and Slightly stereotypical but the short length maybe contributed to this slightly. Obviously being a mafia trope it did have dark themes but for this particular genre, it was quite a light read.
This story was okay. I was very excited by the premise but I found the writing to be distractingly poor.
Valentina is the daughter of a mafia boss. She was engaged to the son of the capo but he broke it off with her after she was kidnapped by enemies saying that she was too damaged to make a good wife. Giovanni is the man who saved Valentina from her kidnappers. He saw her when she was at her lowest and he still finds her beautiful for her strength, loyalty, and resilience as well as her looks. When Giovanni is told by the capo that as a reward for his loyalty he can pick any woman in the organization to be his wife, he immediately choses Valentina.
I really liked the idea of Giovanni chose Valentina for reasons other than her looks and I also really liked that even though she is scared, he knows that he is going to treat her like a queen. I wish that the actual story had been able to follow through on the excitement and romance of the plot.
I think that basically this story would have benefitted from a good editor and a longer length. I think that there were a lot of things that were rushed in the beginning and I think that there were some ideas that I could not follow because they were unfinished plot lines that were unconnected with the rest of the story. Because of this, I ended up skimming a lot of the beginning. I also wish that the beginning of the story had started earlier so that we could have seen more of their relationship or his development of feelings for the heroine.
Overall, I would not read this story again. I have read Sam Crescent before and enjoyed this author but I just think that this one was not well-edited enough to be enjoyable to me.
This was another okay romance from Sam Crescent, though it is MUCH better than the ones I've read previously. It really does feel like Ms. Crescent is several people writing under one name because the difference between this book and the breeding series she did is very noticeable. I still think she (or Evernight) needs to spring for an editor--both grammar and content--because the spelling is off, and there are way too many passive sentences. When a body part moves on its own, the sentence is passive. "His hand moved slowly..." No! "He slowly moved his hand..." Much better. Succinct. Correct.
Anyway, this story was entertaining.
I received a free copy of this book via Evernight and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Valentina and Giovanni make a beautiful couple. Valentina was picked as Giovanni (The Butcher)'s wife. She believes she is damaged and incapable of love. He also believed he is damaged. Will they fall in love? CAN they fall in love?
I found their love story to be so sweet! I was expecting a dark romance but what I got instead was a romance that filled me with butterflies. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I will be reading more from Sam Crescent.

Giovanni is the feared Butcher of the Rossi crime family and Valentina is damaged goods that no one wants. No one except Giovanni that is. He's had his eyes on her and her alone since he saved her 3 years ago. There isn't a force in the world that could keep him from her.
I don't read a lot of mafia books but I did take a chance on this one (love the author!) and I was quite pleased with how it unfolded. Valentina was a strong character but stuck in a role within the organization. She didn't want anything to do with what was expected of her but she complied with her father's decree. And Giovanni, the Butcher, was not what she, nor I, was expecting - and that's a very good thing! He was soft inside for her and she learned to trust him. Love him, as he loved her. Together, they were an awesome couple and I was happy they got their HEA.
TROPES: age gap, mafia, arranged marriage, characters in peril
This was such a good read! Short, sexy, has some mafia goodness but still moments that were so cute they made me smile. The Hero was so good & gentle with Valentina… I loved it. I also really liked how the Hero was pretty obsessed with Valentina, even before they were set to be married. He protects her, he’s soooooo possessive i was salivating & he just wanted her to know how dang special she was to him.
I was so happy to see their HEA & was cheering them on from the beginning. If you’re looking for a good book to help get you out of a slump or just a quick solid read that will make you hot & swoon then I recommend picking this one up!
The book blurb does not say this is an age gap romance. He is 40, she is 21. I didn't like that.
SPOILER PSOILER SPOILER
Heroine is scarred on her back, stomach, and thighs after she was kidnapped by a rival gang. She was the fiance of the Boss' son at the time. He didn't want her because he said she was scarred.
Hero is eventually offered any woman he wants as his wife and he chooses her. They do a scene after their wedding where the bloody sheets are displayed in the living room the morning after the wedding. I thought that was mean. But the book said it was their tradition to prove the bride was a virgin.
Plot: Valentina is an unloved mafia daughter who recently suffered trauma due to a violent kidnapping. She is given in marriage to Giovanni, often called the Butcher, and she believes it's because nobody cares about her. The truth is that he asked for her, and he'll spend as long as he needs to prove to her that she is loved.
Commentary: This was a particularly sweet offering from this author. As in most of her books, the heroine is not considered conventionally pretty but is exactly what the hero wants. He was one of the men who helped rescue her and he continues to look out for her until he can secure her hand in marriage. He had a long way to go - and he knew he would - because all of the men in the mafia/her family were awful. They were all brutal and unfeeling and cheated like their lives depended on it, but Giovanni intends to show her and everyone around them how much she means to him.
Just when I think this author couldn’t write a better story, she does. This book has all the feels. Don’t worry, it’s also got all the seedy underbelly of the mafia, and these two characters have been touched by it more than most. But wouldn’t you go through horror just to find that perfect HEA? I love how their love was able to effect change for themselves as well as those around them. This book was a wonderful weekend read and I am looking forward to seeing what the author comes up with next.
I am voluntarily reviewing a reader copy of this book.
Valentina hasn’t had the best so far in her twenty years of life, being part of the mafia life she knows that she is expected to be seen and not heard, she has been in tracing to be a good little mafia wife since she was born. But three years ago just after she’d been chosen to be none other than the Don’s son Leonardo Rossi, she knew the rumours about him even then and marrying him was the last thing she wanted to do, but when she was kidnapped and tortured by a rival family as revenge on Leo, it left her with scars no one would ever want to see, he called off the wedding. In the years that have past and she’s about to marry the man known as the Butcher. The Rossi family’s enforcer, Giovanni is a man meant to be feared and he is also the man that saved her. Having spent little to no time with him she had no idea what to expect, the man she thought he was is not the same man that’s just become her husband. Could what they have be real, or will her marriage be just like all the ones she has witnessed through her life?
Giovanni has wanted Valentina for as long as he can remember, so when he heard she had been kidnapped he knew there was nothing he wouldn’t do to get her home. The day he rescued her he vowed to never let harm come to her again. His revenge would be swift and deadly to whomever tried to hurt her. He watches her all the time making sure she is ok, her scars haunt her, just as his did after he watched his family killed, it gave him the anger to become the enforcer to the Rossi family and earned the name of the Butcher. After her engagement was called off by Leo after all she had endured made his world right again, and now he had been given the gift of her as his wife. He wants to give her the world and a star to go with it and have a marriage like no other in the mob, this was a true love match for him, but can he convince Valentina that this marriage is one that will be forever and nothing like her parents? And when Leo starts showing interest in his new wife will he be able to protect her from whatever he had in store?
Loved this book it had literally everything you need in a book, revenge, danger, love and such steamy scenes. Highly recommended 4.5* read.
This was an impulsive book pick for me. Mafia books were all the rage when I was completing my nursing program and I had no free reading time. I wanted to rectify that and was so glad I did. This is my first time reading this author. This was a fun, quick, satisfying read!
Giovanni is seen as a monster, the Butcher. While Valentina is looked on with pity, and considered broken by her family and peers for being kidnapped and tortured by enemies. This book starts at their wedding. It reads similar to the beauty and beast trope. Though both are scarred on the outside, they are both beautiful on the inside. I love how Giovanni helps Valentina heal from her past and how confident Valentina becomes by the end of the book. At times, I found The Butcher's Wife a little predictable, which I didn't mind. Because this book's well written, fast-paced and held my attention. Overall, it was a good read.

I loved this one! A fantastic mafia story with a not so traditional “Butcher” Giovanni. He’s definitely brutal but for his new bride he’s everything good. There’s plenty of chemistry and a healthy dose of mafia violence but this is a total HEA read.
I loved this story of Giovanni, The Butcher, and his chosen wife, Valentina. She is very nervous, because of his reputation, and does not feel worthy of him because of her scars. But it is those scars that attracted her to him, as they showed her strength in the midst of violence and abuse. Sweet story that was quick to read 💕
This was a great mafia love story, where the love that Giovanni has for his Valentina is not hidden. After something tragic happened to Valentia, Giovanni made a promise to her. Three years later he was able to keep that promise and made her, his wife. He chose her! I truly enjoyed this one and wished it could have been longer. The sex scenes were on fire. Loved it! ❤️❤️❤️

°Virgin heroine °Hero celibate after meeting h (3 years) °Switching POVs °He's 40, she's 21 °No OW drama °Sweet jealous possessive alpha hero °OM drama (ex-fiancé) °No separation °No condoms °No cheating or scenes with OP °Epilogue: 10 years later
I liked this book. Both main characters are likable. Their relationship was easy to follow and flowed well. It really didn’t have any real intensity though. I didn’t feel any emotions from either one. Any action was quick, brief, might as well have been off page since it was so unintriguing.
Anyway, I liked it but it’s a completely forgettable story. Good luck.
I enjoyed it. Read it while I had COVID and before the brain fog hit. Valentina thinks she’s too damaged after being hurt while kidnapped and being dumped by her previously arranged engagement. Giovanni wants Valentina to be his wife so he arranged to make it happen. Valentina and Giovanni connection was almost instant and they fell for each other pretty quickly.
Her ex fiancé rejected her, his family was the reason behind her torture, her family and the mafia world considered her a pariah but Giovanni saved her, loved her and protected her. This was a steamy, quick novella (I wish there was more) that I really enjoyed.
TW: Death of loved one (off page), abduction and torture (off page)

3.75stars--THE BUTCHER’S WIFE by Sam Crescent is a contemporary, adult, Mafia romance novella focusing on forty year old Giovanni ‘The Butcher’ Romano, and twenty-one year old, Mafia princess Valentine Berlusconi -Romano.
WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Giovanni and Valentina) THE BUTCHER’S WIFE follows in the aftermath of the arranged marriage between forty year old Giovanni ‘The Butcher’ Romano, and twenty-one year old, Mafia princess Valentina Berlusconi -Romano. Approximately three years earlier Valentina Berlusconi was the victim of torture and a brutal kidnapping, a kidnapping from which she barely survived. Refusing to marry a ‘damaged’ princess, Valentina’s fiance Leonardo Rossi, walked away without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein her rescuer Giovanni ‘The Butcher’ Romano has asked for Valentina’s hand in marriage, a marriage Valentina believes will be brutal and swift but to our heroine’s surprise Giovanni Romano has a soft spot for the young woman he rescued, a woman who has unknowingly stolen his heart and his soul. In an effort to secure the woman he loves, Giovanni trains our heroine so she is able to protect herself but Valentina will discover that no amount of protection can guarantee her safety from the one person determined to reclaim her for himself. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Giovanni and Valentina, and the potential fall-out as the past targets our story line heroine.
The relationship between Valentina and Giovanni begins as a rescue, a rescue that will see Giovanni struggling with what happened and why. As a capo in the Rossi family, Giovanni has opted for the one woman who is believed to be damaged beyond repair but Giovanni sees a strong woman who is capable of loving a man who himself believes is incapable of love. Working for the Rossi family finds Giovanni away from the woman with whom he is falling in love, time that will threaten the relationship and their own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and provocative.
We are introduced to Valentina’s parents; Valentina’s ex-fiance Leonardo Rossi, his new wife Victoria, and the head of the Rossi family Thomas Rossi.
THE BUTCHER’S WIFE is a fast paced, quick read. A Mafia style wedding but a marriage predicated upon mutual respect and love. The premise is engaging and exciting; the romance is seductive and intense; the characters are impassioned, charismatic and determined.
