A dark secret. A voodoo curse. An enemy who doesn’t play by the rules.
While Reid tries to find out who the mole in his department is, Kenzie asks for his help on one of the strangest murders he’s ever seen.
A man is found to have died of shock, a voodoo doll placed beside him. Did he really die of a curse, or was it just made to look like one?
When Kenzie’s friend asks her to investigate the sudden disappearance of his happily married brother-in-law, she doesn’t expect it to lead to a dark family secret and a vengeful voodoo curse.
Suddenly, she’s thrust into a strange world where the line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred, but where the threat is just as deadly.
Another brilliant story in Biba Pearce's "Kenzie Gilmour Thriller " series. I love a book that has me gripped from beginning to end and this one did that with bells on. Kenzie Gilmore had always wated to follow in her fathers footsteps and become a cop but she was prevented from finishing her training and the next best thing was to put her investigative training to good use and become a journalist and work for the herald. Kenzie had often helped Detective Reid Garrett on cases, they became more than friends but Kenzie had broken that friendship and Reid had been deeply hurt. When Kenzie was asked by her friend Vet Nick Murray to help trace his sister's husband who was missing, it was to be the start of a very weird and very dangerous journey. As Kenzie uncovered bits of Jacob's life she would have loved to discuss her findings with Reid but she couldn't, firstly because it hadn't been reported to the police and secondly she wasn't at the top of Reid's Christmas card list. Reid had problems of his own, a body had been fished out of the swamp, no identification, no obvious cause of death and no clues except a voodoo doll. As more voodoo dolls appeared and more deaths occurred with no obvious connection and to add to his problems there was a mole in Reid's department, he trusted each and every one of his team but information was leaking. At some point Kenzie was forced to share the information she had uncovered with Reid and they agreed to work together to solve these murders. When Kenzie's life was in danger she knew without a doubt that Reid would do everything he could to rescue her, he had always been there for her. This book had me guessing until the very end and even then I got it wrong, great storytelling and I can't wait for the next one. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
Well, Pearce has done it again - written another great story even better than the last! Kenzie gets herself in a barrel of life and death situations while Reid has a truckload of other problems hitting too close to his team, and several things in between those two get interwoven. Pearce has more than one plot going on in this story, it's a double whammy. This entire series is so good, the action taking place from the hot & humid everglades where Reid lives, reaching to several sections of Miami, Florida. It has kept me reading all evening into the wee hours of the morning, it's such a captivating story! A big Kudos to Biba Pearce, and 5 stars. This is my honest opinion as an ARC reader, and to lovers of murder mysteries, I highly recommend this series.
Deep Heat is book 5 in the Kenzie Gilmore and Reid Garrett series by Biba Pearce. This series is set in and around Miami and the Everglades. Reid has started the rebuilding of his home but this is interrupted when a body is found. Kenzie, a journalist, is approached for help in finding Gail’s missing husband, Jacob Peters. This is a fast-paced, exciting read with voodoo dolls, curses and high priests. There is deception from a few different people involved and when I thought I had the answer, it turned out I was wrong.
Reid and Kenzie end up working together again trying to solve a couple of murders which somehow seem to be related to Voodoo. Kenzie is asked by a friend to help find her missing husband. Reid is working a case of a man found dead in the Everglades with no apparent reason for his death. Then a woman is found with another reference to Voodoo. Are they related or not ? As the investigations move forward they soon find there is lot more going on. With an awesome cast of characters, non stop action/intrigue/mystery and an extremely well written storyline you won’t be able to put this one down !
I love the storyline and the fierce independence of kenzie. Ms. Pearce writes a great tale. As a long time Miami-Dade resident she does get creative with her liberal use of varying locations that for me stretch the imagination, but they flow in the story very well and they are real. If you come to Miami you can find them all pretty much.. However back to the book, it holds you and reads quick and fast. Seeing kenzie and her relation with Reid go from good to bad then you root for redemption a crazy ride. Enjoy!!
Kenzie Gilmore is asked by her friend, Nick to find his sister's husband who has been missing for days. Meanwhile, Reid finds an unidentified dead body. Then there is another murder of a young waitress. Both these murders have one thing in common - voodoo dolls with a death curse. Kenzie and Reid are flummoxed. Kenzie's exploits almost kill her as she faces deception and betrayal. An intriguing story line with smooth criminals and unprecedented twists. I love the series.
Once again Kenzie found herself on her way to another world. Her habitual finding excuses to get into trouble with unsavory , but good looking, guys who didn't have her best interests in mind. At times she was so gullible she would fall into situations only to ,thank goodness, have Reid galloping in to save her again, and again. Many twists only shared by an author who understands the mind of a woman who thinks for herself. Loved it!
Voodoo dolls, gris gris, a man who seems to have been frightened to death and Kenzie Gilmore, what more could you wish for in a Florida mystery? Don't miss this latest in an amazing series!
I really enjoyed this one. So glad one person was finally revealed as being deceptive and there’s another storyline that starts and continues in the next book out in May. I can’t wait to read it.
I am beginning to believe Menzies has nine lives. She does not stop until she finds out the who, what and why. Its how she finds out is why you hold your breath. Onto the next book
A fast paced, non stop police adventure mixed with romance and journalism. I couldn't put it down. One surprise after another. Kept my attention every page.onvto book 6
I absolutely love Reid and Kenzie. They are a perfect team. Miss Kenzie cannot he!p herself staying out of trouble. Plus, those two need to get together lol
