Teacher and Fran return to Granzell after their adventures in the Beastman Nation, still on the search for Garrus—only to discover that he may have been abducted, and by a nobleman at that! Throw in a sudden murder, and their investigation just got much harder. Can the intrepid duo unpick these tangled threads and save an old friend?
An 8hr audio book. After character building for the last two books, they change everything again from the city and guild to people and most enemies... it's rather annoying trying to keep up with so many new places and faces. Overall, I liked the end fight, but the bulk of the story was slow and felt dragged out.
Back to the main country, Fran and Teacher search for their missing Blacksmith friend, that is still missing. Most of the chapter is fine, little spy game here and there, but the action only really starts at the end of the volume. Good but could be better

Fran and Teacher return to the main continent to go to the auction in the capitol and to search for their missing blacksmith friend. They soon realize there was more unfinished business in the kingdom and a group of fanatic drugged swordfighters is out to get them. The story itself is fine, for the most part likeable characters, a story that has been foreshadowed a few volumes ago and Fran who struggles in a believable way. On the other hand, the core trope behind the plot to me belongs in a horror and not really in the somewhat light-hearted action story of before. Although compared to some other books I recently read with the trope this one has its clear limitations and as such is done relatively well. The cliff-hanger ending did not help either. 3.5 stars rounded up.
