Someone knows . . . Is it you? Are you the key to solving one of these heartbreaking cases? We don't know what we know. The mention of a name, a distinct scent unearthing a memory long buried, a shared reminiscence with someone who reveals that tiny detail. you'd forgotten - these are the things that spark our recollections. The sharing of a seemingly insignificant detail locked in our episodic memory could trigger a landslide of leads for investigators.
I bought this book because my friend’s case is included and I was asked to contribute to her story. I also gave a copy to my daughter who couldn’t put it down so I dropped my to-do list and read the book so we could discuss. South Dakota was my childhood home but I knew first hand that bad things happen in small towns. I’m shocked and dismayed that so many cases are not solved and I pray for all of the families who are seeking justice. I hope this book will at least shed some light and hopefully get people who may know something about these cases to come forward.
The unsolved cases are sad but hopefully this book will get the word out & get a few closed! And this book makes me want to look over my shoulder more than I already do!
I hope these stories bring light to these cases so families can get closure. I personally know a couple of the people in this book. Christine is amazing and this book is well written. ❤️
I read this book through a book club. I have lived in South Dakota 50 some years. I was very surprised how many missing people there are in our state simply because we have so few people that it seems like everyone knows everyone. Not true. I suppose other states have a lot of missing people also. As I read this book I thought about how the television shows seldom mention that people are not found and the guilty people walk away. I hope that with the DNA evidence that is becoming more and more helpful in finding criminals we may know more about people who disappear.
Some very sad, scary stories... the author informs the reader on a number of cold cases involving missing & murdered people, all having a South Dakota connection, & many a Native American. She tells the story about what happened, asks/offers pertinent questions & at the end of each case story leaves names/phone numbers/avenues to report any knowledge of the crime/missing person. Personal tributes to some victims are also included.
Great read…it’s like Unsolved Mysteries in book version. Being from South Dakota really puts these stories in perspective since I’ve been to many of the places described, or at least know where they are. Highly recommend. Hopefully this will help shed light on some of these cases and bring closure for their families.
What a great tribute to the victims and their families! I had only heard of a handful of these stories, but it’s important to hear them all. Hug your loved ones tight, say I love you, and witness about Jesus and remind people He loves them; because you never know when you will last see them! ❤️ And if you know something, say something!
Not my cup of tea I guess! Depressed me too much. Senseless murders with nothing solved. Cold cases are hard for me to read about. A friend suggested it as she loves this type of read, so not really fair of me to give a bad review....just not my thing. On to a humorous/lighthearted read after my last 2 books. At least I tried, right?
Such an important topic, and I hope this book helps some of these cases get solved. Each case description is quite brief which was great for my attention span. The author’s consideration involving relatives and getting consent for each story shows ethics. The one thing I’d say is the manuscript would have benefitted from a thorough edit/polish before printing.
A great book about the many South Dakota cold case and others with a South Dakota connection. Its done mostly to mention the victims, and raise awareness of their cases. It was well written and researched.
Being from South Dakota, this book sends chills right down my spine. You never want to think bad things happen in small town USA, but they sure do. Prayers for answers for the families and loved ones affected by the horrendous crimes discussed in this book.
As terrifying as hearing a window break in the middle of the night. An absorbing read. The violence against Native Americans is unreal and heartbreaking. I could not put this down! Well done Ms. Wevik, well done!
I’m not a fan of true crime but I appreciate the author checking with families. The author saying errors aren’t her fault or responsibility rubbed me the wrong way though, and there wasn’t a copyright year in the book. The author had good intentions but this one just wasn’t for me.
I got this book because my friend’s grandparents’ homicide is featured. The book didn’t give me any information I didn’t already know but I am so happy the case was brought up. I still cannot believe it’s a cold case. This highlighted some very interesting cases in SD.
This book was well researched. She is respectful of the family members and friends of whose cases she covers. Hopefully, this book helps to solve some of the cold cases she included in the book.
