Off-limits Grump

Rate this book
I can't stand her…Trying to impress a CEO like me with this fancy hotel and a couple of group bonding activities? Nah-ah.

It’s not unusual for people to fight just to be signed with my
company—but there’s something different about Emma Miller.
She isn’t fighting for the money—but for the challenge to grab my
attention.
But she got that fast with her unstoppable curves and sweet smile.
Too bad she’s so stuck up.

If she likes challenges, she isn't ready for what's coming.
I know about the importance of maintaining boundaries at work, but
there is something about Emma that is driving me crazy.

She’s off-limits, but I could care less.

She looks focused on dealing with the trip activities, but she knows
that she’ll have to come to daddy to get that contract signed.

Between the sailing activities, the golf courses, intense meetings and
the fancy dinners, all I really want is to claim her between my hotel
room sheets.

And I can tell by the way she held my gaze across the boardroom that
she wants it too.

Time to show her who’s boss…

What a roller-coaster of a Rom-Com.
Very interesting and entertaining.
Great characters both good and bad.
A fun twist. Both Emma and Mr Swan have pasts that cause them some issues in their own heads (like most of us, this def. made the story feel real).
I really love the way that they met and the "bet"ing, so much fun.
The chemistry is off the charts and starts showing fast
Heads up this book has a few steamy parts
This is book 1 of a new series (Alpha Billionairs)

I would like to thank the publishers and Booksprouts for the ARC of this book, the opinions above are voluntary and my own.

This book was charming, definitely entertaining, though I was able to put it down to go do chores. Emma is a highly efficient and effective executive assistant at a fashion company, tasked with making sure a new client signs a contract by whatever means necessary. This is through a week long team building trip (arranged in 3 days?) with the new company's executive team. But when she discovers the CEO is a hot young executive, and not the aging cowboy-wanna be she was expecting, things take a turn. The attraction between them battles with her need to stay professional until they succumb to their desires. Can they overcome conflict, betrayal, and mistrust to find happiness together?

I felt there were some motivations and actions that could have been explained better (how did she not find the right CEO if she's such a whiz assistant and researcher, and EVERYONE except her knew), and the book ended rather abruptly. The "grump" wasn't that grumpy, just a busy guy thrown into an unexpected vacation.

There is an implied HEA, the conflict is low key, some angst. Little bit of steam, and alright banter. Some of the treatment/development of secondary characters was a bit trite in my opinion, but this is a short book and they are secondary characters after all.

This would be a great beach or holiday read- low stress, happy ending, and a splash of hot sexytimes thrown in, as well as a quick read.

So much better than the last book! I received an email from my subscription to Holly Jaymes’ newsletter with this story included. Right away I wanted to read it, I went back to my typical billionaire and enemies to lovers plot line I love. This story had tenacity, drive and heated moments which was missing in the last book. This is a new author for me and I’m already a fan. My only complaints about this book is the fact that the connection was dragged on too long between them and I grew tired of Emma’s resistance. The other thing is that Nate’s point of view was missing entirely from this book except for one chapter. I would have loved to hear his thoughts throughout this book because I felt like a chunk of the story was missing. You don’t realize how much you rely on both points of views until it is completely absent from the story. Last criticism I have, which isn’t a bad thing, but I felt like this really wasn’t an enemies to lovers story. I feel this qualifies if both characters feel the same way, and I only got this vibe from Emma. Nate had made his intentions very clear and wasn’t pushing her away or composing a mask so he could avoid letting his walls go down. He didn’t even put up a facade around her, I felt he was very much himself once he stopped trying to make a bet out of everything with her. This says book one, so I look forward to whenever the next one will be available.

This is the start of a new series Alpha Billionaires and we get to meet hard working Emma an executive assistant to a very demanding boss. Emma is very organized and knows how to make things happen when necessary so when her boss gives her the job of organizing a week retreat for the executives of her company along with a marketing company to help them go global she gets it done! When they arrive Emma is surprised to meet Mr. Swan, Nate and not a different Mr. Swan and is put off her game with how handsome he is and is turned off by his offer while checking in at the resort. Neither knows one another at this point and when it comes to light all bets are off. Nate refuses to participate in any activities planned by Emma until he makes a bet with her and the outcome for each has him joining but at what cost to Emma. I love how Emma out smarts Nate with the dinner reservations and they have a wonderful evening. These to stop fighting their attraction and end up making this more than a business event and both a extremely happy with it. When the evilness of others step in it destroys Emma who walks away with Grace and Nate becomes furious taking it out on Emma. Finding the ability to forgive will give these two a chance at love! The CEO and the PA

The heat in this book was off the charts. Nate and Emma were the perfect couple. Their meeting was the beginning of an immediate attraction. An attraction that led to a week of being together as often as possible.
Nate is CEO of GRM business, and is being wooed to join with Spezzatura. Emma is assigned to do anything to get his signature on the contract. Neither of the couple was aware of the plot being done behind their backs by members of both businesses. An attempt was being done to make Nate’s company to go bankrupt.
Nate and Emma profess their love for each other, but their relationship is destroyed at the gala for the teams. Nate breaks Emma’s heart when he is confronted with lies, lies that he believes to be true.
After weeks of loneliness, the truth is revealed, and Emma gets a better job. Now that Nate has learned the truth, he apologizes to Emma and the couple finally obtain their HEA.

This is Emma and Nate’s story. The chemistry between these two is undeniable, and they both have demons in their pasts. This is a good story which has challenges, fun, twists, tension, conflict trust, and is an entertaining and steamy compelling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.

A Must Read!

In just a few chapters you get hooked on this book. And the further you read the likely you are to put it down until you finish it. I love Emma she has enough attitude for a mountain. Nate is just as bad and all their friends and co-workers combined make up a fantastic cast. If I were a betting person I would say you will love this book.

Really low 3, almost didn't finish.

The business side of the story didn't make much sense. And why was the assistant blamed for the sneaky contract language? It all just seemed so forced.

I did like that the annoying office mate became a good friend.

Jessica Marshall, the CEO of Sprezzatura, informs her employees that their company is rapidly growing and they need a large company to handle their worldwide marketing. A contract is being offered to Golden Reach Marketing, GRM, and it's up to the Executive Assistant, Emma Miller, to make it happen. She's good at making schedules and finding activities for a stay at the site of the meeting, the Noho Lani Resort. Emma doesn't know a lot about GRM, other than the fact that its CEO is Nathan Swan, but Nathan has made it his business to know everything about Emma Miller. When they meet, there's an immediate sizzle that neither can deny, but Emma makes it a little bit difficult for him. She's trying to convince him that a contract with Srezzatura would be beneficial to both of them, but how does she do that when she's so attracted to him. They play a wonderful game of cat and mouse, making bets that would make your toes curl, and finally arrive at a place where they give in to their desires. I really like the surprising duplicity over the contract and it was handled well, but after the misunderstanding is cleared up, it just ends. It's not even a HFN, let alone a HEA, and that was a letdown. The story itself is a good one!

Executive Assistant to the CEO who has set up a plan of ideas to ..convince the CEO of GRM to become partners with Sprezzatura. Jessica her boss convinces Emma to set it all up at a Resort in New Jersey in the town her best friend is head chef at a five-star restaurant and she tells Emma to bring them all by for a meal. Emma makes a point of looking up the Ceo but she sees someone other than the actual CEO so she doesn't know him when she sees him at the check-in desk and is shocked so much when introduced by her boss that she cannot say anything but Mr. Swan has been told plenty by her boss so he assumes that she is available which she is but she didn't realize that after-hour activities were included even if she was attracted as her boss pulls a disappearing act at the resort Emma is in charge. Things don't end well for Emma but she keeps her head high on her way out. A very entertaining storyline and characters. I read a copy via BookFunnel without obligation. I liked Emma and Nate’s story. The back and forth between them was entertaining to read. And the chemistry was great!! Nate truly started off as a grump, but as the story progresses, he begins to loosen up and enjoy himself and playing betting games with Emma. She was all business as well but decided to take her best friend’s advice and have some fun. The plot is written well and flowed naturally together. The secondary characters help the plot along as well. I figured a betrayal was coming eventually, but it wasnt from who I expected. That was an interesting turn, but things worked out well for Nate and Emma. Good read!.

This was a great story... very fast paced that I started and finished all in one sitting. Emma is a hardworking admin assistant who puts her all out there for her boss Jessica. Then there's Nate who is the CEO of another company that Emma is told she needs to impress whatever it takes. I love an enemy to lovers romance and this was up my alley. There was slight angst build up but not too much. I felt like everything happened so fast and the "need to know" in me kept me reading until I was completely finished with the book. I recommend this book to anyone who needs a little romance with a smile slapped on their face the whole time. I kept getting the "still" look from the husband :)

Outstanding! This story will keep your attention from the first page to the last. Great banter between Emma and Nathan. Smart and sassy from the moment Emma bumps into him at the resort check-in to their final encounter in her office, and what an encounter that was!

The author writes with humor, wit and warmth. The theme of the story is all too realistic in the world of brutal corporate crime, where the goal can be expressed in one word: greed.

Enjoy the romantic collision of two intelligent and stubborn protagonists. I highly recommend this book.

I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who likes sexy romance with a little suspense. A story about a woman trying to make in her profession with its ups and downs that she goes through with her boss while finding the man that she fall in love with. Emma and Nate are great together with their chemistry with a little betting added in. The only fault I have is that I felt like the story ended when there should have been more. Although I still found it to be a great read.

Emma is a very sweet, hard working executive assistant tasked with arranging a week-long retreat for the executive teams from her company and a marketing giant that will help them go global. She fights her attraction to the marketing CEO Nate. However their attraction gets stronger until they finally make love. On the verge of signing contracts everything goes wrong. You definitely should read this book to see how Emma and Nate challenge each other with a series of bets and what drives a wedge between the two lovers. It's a great read.

Tender, a little hot, with very good characters
4.5
It's a good romantic comedy between Emma who wants to try to get a deal for her boss and who comes up against the boss of the other company who constantly confuses her with unlikely bets for her. Their story builds slowly, but is exciting with each small step towards each other. The summary doesn't quite match because Emma isn't obsessed with this contract, but genuinely unsettled by what's constantly happening.

Tame? Yeah, not this book!! I'd actualy give it a 3.5. F-bombs dropped along with the blasphemy. Emma and Nate's story was funny from their first meeting. The bets kept things interesting and so did their co-workers once they got together...some literally. I also felt like Jessica was taking advantge of Emma and loved when she stepped to her face and gave her the business!! Best friend award goes to Rory. Bitter Betty AND Hot Mess Express awards go to Gia. Another no was the gay reference.

Emma has worked her way up into the position of executive assistant. Taking the helm of a very important corporate retreat, Emma hopes everything goes smoothly. Except when she doesn’t recognize the CEO of the company they are trying to persuade invest in her company. Hot and steamy with a little corporate espionage thrown in. Loved it.
