Pierre loves Talulla. Talulla loves her freedom.

Friends to lovers? Lovers to friends?

I met the love of my life when I was ten years old.
Ever since Talulla Evans walked up to me with her gap-toothed smile and told me her name means “princess”, I’ve been entranced.

For the last twenty years we’ve been there throughout each other’s storms. And somewhere along the line I fell in love. Deep in love.

There is nothing I wouldn’t do for her. Which is how I found myself caught up and agreeing to be her FWB, knowing I wanted more...needed more.

The problem is: Talulla isn’t looking for more. And I get that. She's been burned more than once and isn't trying to repeat the cycle. But it’s becoming harder to compartmentalize my feelings for her when all I want is everything when it comes to her.

4/5 ⭐️

- This was such a beautiful and honest story of healing & how much of an uphill battle it can be! It felt sooo realistic. The fmc wasn’t always likeable which made her feel so human which I loved. There was so much character growth by the end of the book which made my heart so happy.
- I finished this book in two days because the writing is sooo easy to read! There’s so much dialogue that you’ll start reading, look up, and realize that you’ve almost finished the book!
- I also love how the fmc is dating multiple people while she’s trying to figure herself out. I don’t know why we don’t see that more in books, but it felt so realistic to me. I immediate ordered another one of Shon’s books because this one was really good!

Imagine waking up to a social media post with your boyfriend professing his love to another woman on their wedding day!!! Yes you heard me right!! 🗣️THEIR WEDDING DAY!!!! Meanwhile, the whole time you thought he was on a fishing trip with his brothers!!! Chyyyyy to say Talullah was devastated would be an understatement. My girl was 🎶 Only brokenhearted……Life's not over…..I can start again…..While I'm lonely, brokenhearted 🎶 Only Lulu wasn’t starting over again she was done and her heart was forever untouchable.

Lulu and Pierre have been best friend for the past 20+ years and while the chemistry was there they never acted on it for fear of ruining the relationship. Well a few years after her heartbreak, they mutually decided to enter into a no strings attached situation and Pierre caught feelings real bad while Talullah did everything to avoid them. Call that man bob the builder because he was doing his best to breakdown her walls and rebuild her trust in men , specifically him.

Shon did mention that Lulu was going to work every ounce of nerves we have but I didn’t think it would be this bad. She was absolutely insufferable. And I was over her character at the 50% mark. To be honest had it not been for Pierre I would have DNF’d this book. I held out hope as long as I did to see if the love and care he showed to Talullah would be reciprocated but baby Shon made us wait til damn near the last chapter. For these two to have as much history as they did, I’m not sure why Talullah had so much trouble trusting Pierre with her heart. And speaking of Pierre, he deserves the simp of the year award because my dude was down bad behind Lulu and she walked all over him. I would’ve packed up and left her in the dust!

This would have been a much more successful book as a novella because after a while the story became repetitive and I felt like I was on an endless merry go round. I’m typically a fan of Shon but baby this book was not hitting AT ALL!! The only positives were the good job Ja’air and Midnight did with the narration.

Complex! Steamy!

Thoroughly complexing story, with an ending that I did "NOT" see coming.

They say when you detest an actor, that means the actor did a wonderful job.

So, we can assume the same holds true for authors?

Which means Kudos to Shon, for her character Tallula

Although I did not detest Tally, I did want to shake her a few times.

I hope there will be more to Pierre and Tally, I really enjoyed them.

FANTASTIC!!!

Yeah nah, this wasn’t it. It honestly could’ve been way shorter. I don’t like it when the love or romance is already fully cooked before chapter one. Like NO!!! Give me tension. Give me yearning. Give me delusion.

And the friends-to-lovers thing? Especially when one character has been secretly in love with the other the whole time? I hate it so bad. You’ve been in love with your friend for YEARS and just… waited? That’s not sweet, that’s sneaky. You were just waiting for your moment like a side quest. Kinda predatory if we’re being honest (unless it’s super gay, then all of a sudden I’m supportive).

Plot-wise…plot where? Don’t even ask me. I finished it two days ago and my brain already deleted the file. Every time I read it, I felt myself drifting, this book was a lullaby in paperback form. It’s not horrible, I just didn’t care. But I know a lot of people will eat it up. Just… not me, babes.

One of the cutest love stories I’ve read. Cuz where tf can I order a Pierre from. I don't think Prime sells those. This was my first FWB book and I loved it. This lady was so hurt and all this man wanted to do was love her. Just a classic.

Drawn out

I had to skip through because it was getting boring. I felt that both characters was immature and toxic. The book was definitely longer then it should have been.

The Neverending TBR Jar: Book 2

If Shon don't know how to do nothing else, she knows how to write a good spicy scene and this book had plenty!

This story starts off with Pierre being madly in love with his best friend Talulla. When Talulla approach him with the opportunity to be friends with benefits, he thinks this is the perfect way to get her to fall in love with him the way he's been in love with her. But as time pass, Talulla is still not budging on being more with Pierre than what they are. So now they are at an impasse of will they wont they.

If you are not a fan of irritating, immature, taking advantage of good men, female main characters then you will hate this book. This is a beautifully written story of two complicated friends wanting something different and more out of the relationship but the other person is not in the right place to give them. Honestly, I wanted more for Pierre and thought he could do so much better than a girl that didn't feel the need to get her mess together until late in her big age of 29 but I guess in reality you can't help who you love. I'm just glad Talulla did go to therapy in the end even though I think Pierre should have never taken her back after she got help.

Tropes/Triggers:
- black romance
- bipoc author
-bestfriends - fxck buddies- lovers
- boy falls first
- childhood abandonment
- anxiety rep
- disorganized attachment
- cheating
-difficult parent relationships

I hated The FMC. She got on my last nerves. I know the author warned us about it but I did not think she would be this irritating. If I was Pierre, I would have moved and dropped her ass. Happy he got his happy ending though. If only real men were like Pierre though, he saved this book. Overall it was a good read (excluding Tallulah).

It was the FMC for me. She annoyed me to no end. I would have liked to see her character have to assert some type of emotion for Pierre because he deserved it. He WAS just as good as he BELIEVED her to be. I wanted to see him loved on purpose and outright, that's all.

Firstly, I loved the friendship that Pierre and Talulla shared. The fact that he was always there for her. Always knew what she needed before she knew or didn’t realize she needed. Loved that dynamic.
Secondly, I totally understand why Talulla was the way she was. She had been hurt by people she loved and who she thought loved her. The ultimate hurt was the rejection from her mom.
Thirdly, I hated how she downplayed the love Pierre had for her. I think that she categorized him in the same section with the ex and mom. Even though he showed her time and time again that he was truly there for her she questioned it. Loved the conversation the therapist had with her. The unpacking was necessary
Ultimately, I didn’t like how Pierre was a straight fool for Talulla. That alone was abuse in my eyes. Willingly allowing a person to treat you in the way she did him should not be permitted. If someone treat you in this way-are they really your friend or really care for you? That was something that truly bothered me.
However, I loved the book. Loved the writing and the story. I appreciated it. I gave this story 4 stars because of the last paragraph. But I didn’t dislike the whole thing. If I have a love hate relationship with the characters then the author has done it’s job. Thank you Shon!!!

Struggled

2.5 I understand Shon normally slowly rolls her characters, and I was willing to wait. But this couple was not it, Tallulah was just selfish and a user, and Pierra was her puppy. I honestly was not rooting for them. This was an audiobook listen. The narrators were decent. I probably won't finish the series.

Friends to lovers. This book was just okay. Tululla did get on my nerves. I don’t know why she didn’t realize having sex with her best friend was going to change their relationship.

Ok Shon. You got me. This emotional rollercoaster almost took me out but I enjoyed it. I was mad at Talulla at first but I realized she was healing just as we all are. Pierre loved her beautifully though. I ate this up.

If you need me I’ll be reading everything else by Shon

Lord. Smh! This book irritated me to no end! And not for the reasons it was, apparently, supposed to. I’m still trying to understand why there was a disclaimer at the beginning asking the readers to give Tallulah some grace because she’s been through a lot, as if SHE was the problem in the book. And, as I read the reviews (which I tend to do after finishing books I either loved or hated), I’m seeing all these ppl complain about Tally and how Pierre was “too good for her” and how she “doesn’t deserve him” and how “insufferable” she was, and I’m so confused. It makes me think the disclaimer that the author put at the beginning was way too influential, which makes the book even MORE annoying. Please tell me how Tally is the problem. She was hurt by a previous relationship, and it caused her to put her guard up and place strict rules on her dating life. Pierre, her “best friend” since they were little and who was SECRETLY in love with her, offers himself up to be used as a sexual plaything after she complained about a drought she was going through—FULLY AWARE, mind you, of her strict rules and boundaries, but wants the chance to at least get some of her if he can. Tally, completely unaware that he’s in love with her, agrees because as her “best friend” he appears to be a safe bet. Within a year, he professes his love for her (conveniently, always either during or immediately after he brings her to completion—I’m trying not to be vulgar). When she doesn’t reciprocate, he purposely plots with one of their mutual friends to pop up on her dates with other men, show up unannounced to outings, corners her and uses her sexual appetite to seduce her in order to sabotage her dates, is aggressive with the other men in her life even though he knew going into the agreement that she would still date other men, and then…AND THEN (!!!), when she decides that even though she’s realized that she has feelings for him too, she would rather try to salvage their friendship and tells him they should stop having sex. Not only does this “best friend” of hers yell “NO”, but he goes off, accuses her of using him—when HE’S the one who offered his body while, again, SECRETLY in love with her—and then insults her character and stops talking to her for weeks. And it’s TALLULAH I’m supposed to be bothered by throughout this story?? Because she denies her feelings for him in an effort to protect her own heart by abiding by her own rules that he knew about?? Like…tf?? Am I the a**hole for thinking HE’S the a**hole and that she needs to run fast in the opposite direction of wherever he is?? Omg! Pierre made me start to wonder if I hate men. Maybe because I’ve known a LOT of Pierres and UGH none of that is attractive or romantic or desirable. Dude was weird and scary af! And he would’ve been dead to me after the temper tantrum he had over some damn sex. And to top it off, for the majority of the remainder of the book, Tally is self-loathing and blaming herself for messing up their relationship and constantly talking about how she deserves the treatment he’s giving her. What?? Rolling my eyes HARD! I was not happy that they worked it out. And that last part really annoyed tf out of me at the end when she asks if he’s mad at her for “making him a babydaddy before a husband”! Girl, what?!? If that’s not some backward a** sh*t, idk what is! As if HE didn’t impregnate HER without HIM first proposing to his “best friend” that he’s supposedly so “in love with” prior to said impregnation?!? Uggggghhhh! I hated this with a passion! Dishonorable mention to the typos, formatting errors, and the attempt at flowery prose to make a toxic relationship sound beautiful. ‘Twas not!

3.5⭐️ This was a nice read to start off the year :) Shon has really beautiful writing, and the word size and spacing in the book made it enjoyable.

The FMC does have some annoying and immature traits, but the author warns us about them at the beginning of the book, which makes her more tolerable. In the end, I loved both the FMC and MMC and their relationship to each other.

I couldn’t give this book more than 3.5 stars because although some mature topics were explored and discussed, there was still a YA feeling to this that I can’t quite put my finger on. I still really enjoyed this book and will remember it, but I don’t think it touched me enough to give it 4 stars or more.

I do plan to read more by this author! I have “Just Right” in my Amazon card ready for purchase☺️

Talulla x Pierre

Imagine being in love with your best friend for years, but they are unable to reciprocate it because they’ve been burned by love in the past. Burned by people they trusted and who were supposed to love them the most. This causes them to keep others at arms length and no longer trust love.

Even though the FMC frustrated me so bad, I really enjoyed this book. So often you see men suppressing their feelings, but not the MMC….he spoke his love constantly and showed the FMC as well. Understanding how bad love had affected her in the past, he remained patient and allowed her to figure out her way of accepting his affection as well as giving her own.

This was a such sweet read with a bit of spice!

She has a roster, including her childhood best friend who is in love with her. I really enjoyed this book especially listening to the audio. this story is best friends to FWB to lovers. Tallula and Pierre have been friends since high school, and after a bad break up she decide that she will not catch anymore feelings for anyone, so she put these rules in place to protect her heart. When she decided she wanted to be sexual with someone with no strings attached, Pierre offered to be that person.

I feel like this story was so realistic, women often put rules in place after a breakup to avoid heartache. Pierre was honest about his feelings and was also patient at the same time. I loved their banter when they were together. I loved that at the end of it all, Pierre realized that he had to wait for her to get there, and he couldn't force her to love him.

I get this type of story can be frustrating for readers due to the constant go around for the characters, but I loved it and I think the book was a good length which made it bearable.

It’s interesting how trauma from your past can affect you present day.

Talulla's past has caused her to be fearful when it comes to loving…falling in love. It's wonderful that Pierre remains consistent in his love/feelings for her. He loves hard and I think that’s a beautiful thing.

She’s able to finally tap into love wholeheartedly and embrace her true feelings for Pierre.

The Talulla and Pierre love story is beautiful!

This author's writing style is both easy to read and a page-turner. I loved this romance novel!

This was a cute read. The FMC annoyed me but I understood why she was so resistant to being in a relationship with her best friend. The MMC Pierre was THAT DUDE! The way he was so open, and sure about what he felt for her was refreshing and I LOVED him!

The spice was a little but much for me. I felt like some of the sex scenes weren't necessary. Not a lot of plot, just a simple story about a man in love with a woman. Sometimes I just want to read about black people in love and this gave me all the feels.

I’m giving this book 3.8⭐️, but rounding it up to 4.

Tallulah is a great reminder that healing is not linear. It takes time, commitment, honesty, and bravery to face your demons. But, it is so necessary to do the work, or you will miss the gifts that are right in front of you.
Whew Chile, the roller coaster of Pierre’s emotions when it came to this girl! Pierre was a little too sprung for my liking. The amount of times I wanted to say “baby, stand UP!” The libra in me desperately wanted her to just be honest and vulnerable so much sooner to balance the scales, but isn’t that tension what makes a good book? 😏
Speaking of tension…the spicy scenes were so on point and were definitely devoured! They only made me root for them two to work out even more. There were also so many beautifully written phrases that I annotated while reading this book.
“I laugh despite myself and the arrested look on Pierre’s face would lead anybody watching us to believe he just watched me hang the stars and the moon.”
I mean 😭😭The passion these two had came across very well.
I rated it a 3.8 because to me, the story wasn’t as convincing at some points, but it sure was entertaining! I will definitely be reading more Shon in the near future!

Wheew, Pierre definitely loves a chase! That includes his best friend Talulla. She wanted the friendship, love, support and comfort and yes SEX from Pierre. And thats it! Which left Pierre’s feelings raw and open wanting more from the women he has loved his whole life. Can he tame the heart of a woman who only wants what she wants and thats FREEDOM?! She has her reasons for feeling this way it just shouldn’t come at the cost of Pierre’s heart.

4.5 My first FWB book. I relate heavily to Tally. The feeling of being unlovable due to the actions of others in my life. Maybe I just didn’t understand but to me Pierre was giving borderline crazy. I guess love can do that to you? Idk his approach was very aggressive

Brilliant! I love romance books where the MMC pines after his love interest so much, you can literally feel the love through the writing. Talulla was annoying sometimes but honestly it made sense why she had so much fear for love. Pierre was just so amazing and patient even to his detriment all in the name of love and that is quite adorable to me!!
