Ambrose is the demigod son of Hades, the ruler of the underworld. He is in charge of punishing those who were wicked in their lifetime, as well as housing lost souls, but there's only one soul Ambrose truly cares about; his mate's.
Once news spread of Malik, the son of Poseidon, finding his fated mate on Earth, Ambrose and his fellow demigods have been visiting the human world in hopes of finding their eternal love. His search has been difficult and futile, until he finally finds who he's been looking for; a broken young man with both physical and emotional scars. Ambrose holds the key to his mate's happiness and peace. He just has to earn his trust.
Marcus carries a large scar on his face, and receives many stares of pity or disgust. But the source of the mark causes more pain and suffering than the original injury, as it is a reminder of his shame and loss. Though he carries guilt and grief most days, there is one evening a year he allows himself to enjoy - an annual masquerade ball. When half of his face is hidden, he's comfortable being seen. Little does he know that he'll meet someone who can soothe ALL of his pain, and make him ready to rejoin the world...by taking him under it.
I live in rural Ohio with my husband and two sons who drive me nuts, but I love them with all my heart. I enjoy reading and writing romance of all types, but gay romance is my forte and favorite! Twice the sexy men? Yes, please! My books tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart, but they do contain lots of heartfelt moments, steamy scenes and a healthy dose of humor. Thank you to everyone for checking out my page and I hope you enjoy my books. Happy reading!
Had potential but really failed to deliver. I'm starting to get to the point where I wonder why I even bother reading these anymore. They're so short and leave so many gaps that could be filled with so much more plot. The last three or four (or more) books this author has put out have been so short you could read them in less than 30 minutes. Everything is so rushed and it's basically a push to publish, who cares about quality. It's sad when there really isn't enough material to give a proper review.
A demi God finds his mate in a masquerade ball. It's an insta love, fated mates story ft. a beauty with a scar both on his face and in his life, and the son of Hades who is determined to love and care for his mate. It's like a fluffy non-mpreg version of RIF by Anna Wineheart. If you love insta love stories, i highly recommend picking this up!
If insta love is not your jam, then please consider skipping this. Everyone has their own preferences. i really think it's a doing a disservice if, while not liking insta love stories at all, one reads this story anyways and then gives it a 1 star bcuz it's not their preferred kind of trope.
i think Marcus summed it up the best when he said:
“In one short night, he’d shown me more kindness than I’d received over the past six years.”
“He completed me. He exchanged my life of guilt and sorrow for an eternity of care and bliss.”
The characters here are the same as it was in RIF. starring my character Blue as Marcus.
My Neil as Ambrose! (Again!! :D)
That being said, the story takes place in the span of an entire day and ends with an epilogue from a year later. The story gave me exactly what i wanted from RIF. But there, the romance was compromised for mpreg and here, mpreg was compromised for insta love.
Marcus received his scar from an accident that took his brother's life. While people gave him looks of pity amd disgust and people won't even hook up with him bcuz of something that was out of him control, i felt so sorry for him. i instantly fell in love with him. Guess Ambrose did too cuz he even thought the scar was pretty- as it should be!
“… maybe I felt this way because he was the first man to not only look past my imperfections, but look at them and still see value in me.”
i was desperately hoping Ambrose would show him his brother in the Underworld. Because i know, in RIF too, the mc wanted to see his dead brother but he never got to see him. And so, when Ambrose said:
“That’s where you’re wrong, my dear.” I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and he added, “Your brother’s name is James Welsh, correct?” --And this is where i cried profusely. Ofc Ambrose has met his brother. He knows. He knows!!
i think i've unlocked a new trope i like: Demon mc2 knows mc1's dead brother from the underworld (and let's mc1 visit him)! i also love how James (the dead brother) got sad after the initial happiness in seeing Marcus there, bcuz he thought Marcus was dead- he wasn’t. i also liked how he had forgiven the friend who caused the accident thereby taking his life. Had i been in his place, i would never.
This was a very nice, gentle story. Read it in 1 go. i have nothing bad to say for it. It had almost everything i wanted. Why almost? Bcuz i really, really wished there was also an mpreg aspect to it. It feels more complete that way. But bcuz no one ages in the underworld, no new souls can be born and i thought that was a nice touch.
So regardless, i loved this very much! i'm a sucker for Jayda's stories, that's for sure!

This was another short novella by Jayda Marx, with fated mates — except this time it’s demigods.
I thought this was just fine. It was her usual instalove fast paced you come to expect but again, her writing has recently lost that touch of magic she usually brings to them. That might just be the length as well, leaving you feeling unsatisfied as you get to the end of it.
I do nitpick the fact she uses the world Hell for the Underworld. If you’re using Greek mythos, I do think there’s value in research to at least be a little more accurate with such wording and understanding it.
Yay! More demigods finding their mates! Hades is one of my favorite Greek Gods to read about, and although this is Marcus and Ambrose's story, Hades really stole the show. I loved Jayda's interpretation of him. Sweet Marcus and fiery Ambrose meet at a masquerade ball, the one place Marcus feels safe to be himself. His back story is so heartbreaking but everything works out beautifully in the end. A wonderful sweet story.
Marcus beautiful guilty ridden Marcus. This young man needed Ambrose he needed him like we need air because this child lost everything in fail swoop and this demigod not only gave him love and understanding, he also gave him the ability to clear his conscience of something he had no control over.
3.5 ⭐. It's good but very VERY condensed. Glorified fanfic really. And I say that as someone who loves short stories. But when it's less than say 12 chapters, something gets sacrificed on the altar of the writers God (ha ha). Either the characters development or the sexy scenes. It's a bit like junk food, you end up still hungry and and frustrated.
Few words to sum up this book:- Insta-love, fated mates, a totally sweet demi-god, and a human who is a little self conscious about his scar, and meets a demi-god who makes him feel special.
As far as novellas go, this is short, drama free, and the characters are amazingly adorable--especially a certain lord of the underworld and his three headed monster...

This idea was really cool but felt incredibly rushed. I get insta love but this was a bit too fast for me. Jayda has such sweet ideas but lately it feels like it’s get loads of books out rather than tell complete stories. I keep hoping for a longer book.
This is another insta love story by Jayda Marx perfect for those times you don't want a angsty full length drama but just want to escape for a little while.
