My opponent thinks he’s making all the right moves to crush me, but apparently no one ever told him the Queen is the most dangerous piece on the board.

3.5 stars ✨

Tbh this rating is mostly based on vibes. I wanted something smutty and some decent action, it delivered on those fronts. Although, I gotta admit that the plot is very weak and is executed in a messy manner. The knife to the heart scene between Alina and Lo did not make sense and it came out of nowhere? It was rushed.

I love the characters, excluding Andrei due to the lack of groveling. He just comes across a kiss arse to me 😭😭 Drake and Lincoln are so swoon worthy tho. They are so similar and yet so different, I love how they balance out the chaotic group. Genuinely impressed by the growth in Alina compared to the previous book.

Special mentions to the spice... It's hot y'all and that's all I'll say. If you want to read this reverse harem series just for spice? Do it!! You won't regret it.

That ending has me SHOOK. Can't wait to devour it next 😉

This is definitely my favourite one so far in the series. I loved seeing Alina, Lincoln, Drake and Andrei grow closer. Once again the ending was heartbreaking.
This book follows Alina and her mates following the horrific attacks on students at DIA the academy for different types of species including vampires and shifters. Alina is shaken up by these attacks especially as she is still a new vampire after being turned into one against her will. She is also heartbroken by the way that Andrei cruelly ended their relationship though she knows this was because of his abusive and controlling father Joffrey. However she finds solace in her growing connection to Drake and they finally solidify their mate bond. They later head to DIA where Alina has a romantic reunion with Lincoln. However Alina is still heartbroken about her breakup from Andrei and Lincoln helps get him back. Andrei reveals that his father threatened to kill his mother Serena if he didn't choose her over Alina. Alina is obviously horrified by this and she, Lincoln and Drake promise to rescue Andrei's mother from his father. However everyone soon finds out that Joffrey is attempting to overthrow Drake as King of Sangrius and become king himself. He also takes with Serena with him so that she can't be rescued. It is also still dangerous for students to be at the academy due to the recent murders and breaches of security so everyone heads to Drake's castle where they reunite with Drake and Alina's close friend Lo (her full name is Lauren). During this time Alina becomes closer to her mates and they also begin building a friendship with each other, as well as becoming open to sharing her (which they do in a very spicy scene). Alina also finally bonds to her sword which she got when was still a slayer as a human and she and the sword start to communicate with each other. Eventually Alina, Andrei, Drake and Lincoln start executing their plan however it ends up horrifically wrong. Joffrey manages to inject Serena and Lo with poison that will kill them without an antidote, and the antidote they have is only enough to save one of them. After this Alina kills Joffrey but they are still faced with the heartbreaking reality that only one of the women will live unless they manage to get another antidote. I really enjoyed this book. The relationship between Alina and her mates as well their growing friendships was each other was so good. I also really enjoyed the spice in this one even though I'm not a huge spice fan. It was done so well and I could the emotional connection as well as the physical one between Alina and her mates. This was a great book in this series and I can't wait to read the next book. I can't believe I'm almost done with this series.

This series gets better with every book and I am HERE for it.

I honestly think this series is my favorite thing RL Caulder has ever written. Each character is so vibrant and they mesh together incredibly well. Alina is an amalgamation of all of my favorite badass female characters and her take no shit attitude gives me life.

What set this book apart from the others in the series, to me, was daddy Drake finally getting the spotlight. And WHEW the man knows his way around the bedroom iykwim. His nickname for Alina is also so freaking cute, I love how he toes the line between daddy dom and gentle lover with her and shows her a side of himself that no one else gets to see.

Loving this series and highly recommend if you're looking for some hot vampire action!

I’m really enjoying this series! It’s super quick and there’s a lot going on to keep me engaged

I do think it’s slightly dragging on a bit but I’m also excited to see what happens next since they all have ended on a cliffhanger!!

This one was the HOTTEST. The group scene 🥵 phewww

Plot ⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Vibes 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Multi-1st person POV (but really Alina w/ 1 chapter each from each guy - except Lincoln, he got 2 chapters)

I wish I could say I liked this more. While I enjoyed it, the plot progression is basically non-existent until right at the very end and it takes course over maybe 3-5 days and the biggest conflict is resolved way too quickly especially with a 4th book on the horizon. And with a completely new problem showing up at the end out of left field leaving us with a cliffhanger that could've been completely avoided... that paired with the fact that a little more page time fleshing out some minor details and the entire story could've been wrapped up with this book so I'm just disappointed... The spice was pretty hot though and we have our first group scene - no ⚔️ (*yet, I hope this changes in book 4🤞🏻)

In general, the conflicts feel very surface level with predictable villain-monologuing and stupidity despite these being several-hundred-to-thousand-year-old vampires having all this time to plan for contingencies and backups. I would've also liked to see more POVs from the guys - as I said above, Alina is dominating the story and while she IS the FMC, there were a few times where she was passed out and I would've liked to switch to the guy's POV instead of just time-skipping to when she wakes up. I still love Drake and his devotion to Alina and I feel like they got the majority of page time in this book so I'm not mad about that. A quick read despite it being ~350 pages. Ends on a "cliffhanger" but the newest conflict just felt like a plot device to lengthen the story. It really wasn't necessary. I'll still read book 4 probably but I hope the author really sits down and thinks how to integrate more oomph so the 4th book doesn't feel lackluster after that dismal attempt at a cliffhanger.

Okay so, the timeline!

Day 0, Saturday: Alina loses her whole family, meets Lincoln (mate 1)
Day 1, Sunday: she flirts with Lincoln, meets Andrei (mate 2)
Day 2, Monday: she accidentally bonds with Lincoln, flirts with Andrei
Day 3, Tuesday: Lincoln and Andrei fight about her
Day 4, Wednesday: she meets Dracula (aka Drake, mate 3),
Day 5, Thursday: Drake tries to flirt with her, she doesn't reciprocate
Day 6, Friday: she gets basically whisked away to Drake's castle
Day 7, Saturday: she spends the day with Drake but not trusting him yet
Day 8, Sunday: she trusts Drake, bonds with Andrei
Day 9, Monday: big party, she "loses" Andrei, bonds with Drake
Day 10, Tuesday: she makes up with Andrei
Day 11, Wednesday: they make a plan to defeat a/the villain
Day 12, Thursday: they defeat said villain

This is three books worth of content. Three useless books worth of content.

I might have gotten a few details mixed up, but this is basically it. Your whole world is turned upside down, you lose all your family and friends and in return you simply move on and have sex with three different guys. Though the fact she's not grieving on-page at all might be the most unrealistic thing in this vampire series lmao

Another complaint is that Alina first wants to be unassuming while training to get revenge and on day 1 she's like "fuck it" and goes back to her hating-everyone-persona. It's a fine line between a strong independent woman and an annoying one, and Alina definitely fell off into the annoying area.

Oh well.

This book tried to be a high stakes, "plot heavy" book instead of the paranormal smut-fest that the first couple of books are written as, and it fell flat.

The dialog was even more over the top cringe & I didn't care enough about any of the characters to make the plot meaningful. Won't be continuing to book 4 for the time being

Ok. Not the ending I was expecting at all. Not how I thought the plot was going to go either.
But I’m still totally into everything going on.
I’m really hoping this last book goes how I’m hoping it does.🤞🏻

all reviews in one place: night mode reading ; skaitom nakties rezimu

My Opinion: Focus turned towards padding the plot proper, so we got a fine story of an attempted coup, a sly overthrow of power being plotted. Was very interesting to read, reminded me of some other books in this similar or same genre (aside the harem part, that is) I’ve read, providing that sense of nostalgia. So, if you’re in for some vampire YA-ish fantasy, just like the stuff you’ve read a decade ago, it’s worth a go. Other than that, it’s simple, nothing special about it. Is it a bad thing? Not at all. Would’ve liked a little more, but, honestly, not everything needs to be a timeless masterpiece. It did the job, I was entertained.

A 4 out of 5, very decent.

I can't lie; this series is losing me at this point. As the story continues and the plot expands, the world-building feels more flimsy. The main characters can now communicate with each other in their minds, and the author's handling of this is strange and confusing. Sometimes it's italics, sometimes it's bold, and every time I think I figure it out, I've got it wrong.

Overall, not bad. I'm still enjoying the story and characters, but I think this is what happens with these short multi-book series set in a fantasy world; they fall apart as they progress because they don't have the early foundation needed to sustain the plot.

I absolutely love the way this story is continuing to develop. The spice, the action, this is probably my favorite of the books so far in this series! Vampires aren’t a unique concept especially in the romance world but the way that RL has continued to write this story line has created a unique tale I can’t wait to continue to read…plus, let’s be honest. The guys are just drool worthy.

What a ride! So much happens in this book, I couldn’t put this down and I loved every minute of it! Daddy Dracula calling Alina Comoară, 🫠😍. Andrei is redeeming himself and I found this line perfect to sum up my feelings, “It's hard to stay mad at him, but he's still not my favourite”😂. This series is freaking great and just keeps getting better!

This book was definitely better than the last and had more plot. However, I still don’t lo don’t understand how these books can take place in a week. Also don’t get me started on all the nicknames. Genuinely was going to DNF if I had to read those nicknames every single line in the book.

Oh my! The twists and turns have me shook. Alina really comes to terms with having mates and becoming a vampire. She grows closer to her mates, as well as deepening her friendship with Lo. We learn more about her soul sword. There is great crossover information with other series in the DIA universe. I can’t wait to see how this culminates.

DNF at 28%. There is just not enough going on plot wise for me here. And the romance aspect is a bit much for my taste. It feels a little cheesy and over the top. I feel like the FMC just got lost in her relationships and not a lot of character development was going on.

Of course it's quite classic and I'm sure it has been done before, but I still love the idea of a Van Helsing daughter being turned into a vampire and being mated to Dracula. The first book was already a lot of fun, the second book only got better because the politics were showing up and I was really looking forward to dive into this third book after the cliffhanger and everything that had happened in the previous book. Luckily I got an arc from the author so I could start reading a little sooner.

This book is filled with politics, conflicts and most of all bonding. Our heroine does know that she loves all three guys and wants to be with all three of them, but it is not that simple to get all her guys on the same page. In this book we see them spending time together, building a connection and slowly learning how to share their girl. And once they become this well working unit it becomes more fun and even more amazing to watch.

I also love how in this book we're seeing the Dracula side of Drake a little more. We've gotten to know him as Alina's mate, as a sweet and protective guy who's entirely different with her than he is when he's having a public appearance. But in this book he's in danger, and so is his queen, and now we see why he is the king of the vampires and why people are afraid of him. Of course I like his softer side better, but this paints a more complete picture and I love it.

It's also great that even though our heroine loves her mates she's not forgiving them too easily if they make mistakes. There is a lot of groveling in this book, without it becoming humiliation. I like how all the characters involved manage to keep the balance. To let Andrei feel that he is wrong, but without losing sight of his reasons for being wrong. And reading chapter's from Andrei's point of view made everything only even more heartbreaking.

I can't wait to get my hands on the finale of the series!

Honestly, I think I gave this an extra star (or at least rounded it up from a 3 to a 4) simply due to how good the steam was even though it was only ONE scene (how dare you do that to us), and how much I loved the relationship between the guys.
I think my favourite part of Why Choose books is the bromance because AH I love how they go from wanting to strangle one another to joking around and teasing each other like good friends who also want to strangle one another. It makes my heart happy 🥰

I have to say that there are some conveniences that bugged me. To think the big bad villain was going to do exactly what she planned in order for it all to work out is a long shot. The whole 'if I do this, it'll work' and it ACTUALLY working seemed a bit unbelievable. This happened twice in this book that I recall and if they were wrong whatsoever the entire book would have been over considering they were huge decisions. Thankfully the MC has plot armour so it worked out.

Yes there are a few things I still don't love, and sure the writing may not be on par with other big authors but I've been having fun with this series. I haven't read an entire series in a month before and this is possibly the first time it'll happen, heck, I don't think I've read more than one book from a series in a month in years so this is already breaking records with three in August alone.

I really hope the last book has at least more than one group scene because this author knows how to write them. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Bite of Vengeance

I am really enjoying this series. Something about Aliana keeps me coming back. This book picks up where book 2 left off. Andrei said he regretted his mating to Aliana, but it was a ploy to protect her from his father. The relationship between her and Drake has grown and the budding friendship between her and Lo was amazing. I mean come on, Alina had to bond with Devour by stabbing herself in the heart and Lo’s solution, well we stab ourselves together of course. I love their friendship I expect many more funny moments in the future.

This book does end on a cliffhanger. They killed Andrei’s father but they also discover that Alastor is the witch who helped kill her family and she needs to make a deal with him to save Lo. Andrei's father poisoned Lo and Andre's mother.

The spice was good. I wish there was more but there was a group scene with Drake, Lincoln, and Alina. Andrei was there but he was in the doghouse.

I really enjoyed this series so far and I am looking forward to book 4.

I'm still ridiculously in love with this world, like I really can't get enough of it. I'm gonna read each and every single book that is written in the DI world cause I love them so much.

There's a bit going on in this book for sure. Andrei has pushed Alina away and she's angry with him. She's also told Drake that he needs to check his board members as she's adament Andrei's father and maybe even a few others are plotting against him. There's a lot less story in the academy itself this time, but we do get a few of the other characters from the other series mentioned even if we don't see them physically in the book.

The bonds between the FMC and her guys are definitely growing and she's starting to trust them more, even though technically they were her 'enemy' in book one. It's definitely a little slower in pace in this story but I still really enjoyed it and of course, the book wouldn't be complete without a cliffhanger.

Bring on book 4.

The truth is revealed…

Drake has members of his board ready to overthrow him and take over. We get answers for some of the questions we needed, which will lead us to the final book and the final showdown.
Alina must find those responsible for her families deaths and finds a bigger betrayal then she thought possible. I’m ready for Alina to finally avenge her family.

Drake, Lincoln and Andrei are Alina’s mates, they will need to learn to share her and will learn they have a rare kind of bond.

Sacrifices are made but then we get left on cliffhanger.

This series has been gripping from book one to this book three.

Hmm, I really want to rate this higher, but I think this one’s more of a vibe read for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really enjoying the series so far, and I cannot wait for Alina to finally show them and enact her long-awaited vengeance.

And oh my god, please let Lo be okay. I swear, I’d revive Jeoffrey just to kill him myself. You just know characters with that name are always the most fucking annoying.

Still no ick from the boys. There was almost a moment, but I let it slide. Though, I would've preferred some major groveling from Andrei. Drake is still my favorite. Daddy Dracula? YES PLEASE. 3.5 ⭐

I love how this book series is unfolding. I was very fascinated to learn more about the FMC and her mates in this book. Also I like the unique spin on Dracula and a Van Helsing I’ve never read a book where they weren’t enemies. With each of her mates she has a very different relationship with them. We are starting to find out more plots and get answers for things that happened in other books. As always the cliff hanger in this book left me with wanting the next book!!

That's it. I am done with this series. I have tried to push through the poor writing quality in the interest of seeing through the end of the story, but I just don't care about these characters enough anymore. The timeline is ridiculous... In a matter of days people meet, fight, fall in love, lose each other's trust, forgive each other, can't live without each other etc...days! Just days. If these things happened over months then it might make some sense.

I absolutely adore this world. This book picks up without missing a beat and we are thrown into the heart of the vampire-ruling chessboard. There is definitely something going on behind the scenes that is not known...and could hurt Drake and everyone Alina loves. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat

Alina’s unique story and conflicts have been an entertaining read. I’ve enjoyed watching her growth as the series continues. She’s definitely the highlight of this series, although her men aren’t too bad either.

This book was a bit of the slower side but the last bit more than made up for it. The cliffhanger was fairly tame, thankfully. So while I’m excited for what’s going to happen, I didn’t toss my kindle after reading.
