Unworldly
Randall has been sent to find his sister and take her back to the coven. The problem is, Marcia has made a life for herself in Lower Dipton. She has a café, a cat, a dragon mate and an annoying, irritating, rude, offensive, interfering troll of a neighbour. He doesn’t know how he’s going to persuade her to return with him.

Had this story not been part of the dragon's mate series, but an alternate series in the same universe, I may not have ranked it as low. As far as unmated dragons, we have Glimmer and Alphonse on the Sommerville clan. We also have a whole third clan that hasn't been explored yet but was mentioned in book 2. But no. We got Broadmire, who has been a tertiary character with as much importance as Marcia's cat in all of the book he actually appears in. And Marcia's brother Randall, who no one had even heard from before this book. Which feels like a disappointment. I expected one dragon at least. Not a witch and a troll.
They also have a very adversary, enemies to lovers kind of dynamic going for them, which I don't like. It doesn't endear me to either or make them seem likeable. So I spent the whole book not really caring for either of them.
And based on the blurb the next book may not have a dragon as a main either. Which is disappointing as well. Hopefully I'll like Joe the random gardener better than I did Broadmire and Randall.

Love through the stomach
Marcie has always been a bit of a character to the side, and with her budding relationship with Laura it seemed that they would be a couple that would form in time during other books. As such it was intriguing to have this brother come along and suddenly make Marcie's past and therefore Randall's appearance much more central.
It was always clear thar Marcie was a witch, just not a super powerful one. She is clearly content living in her small town and using her abilities on small things while cooking to her hearts content. It turns out this is something her old coven didn't like and Marcie is actually in hiding. When the coven finds Marcie they send her brother Randall to collect her. The only thing is Laura and Broadmire aren't willing to let Marcie go, which quickly embroils Randall in their lives.
Randall and Broadmire are an intriguing pair. Broadmire is a troll and doesn't quite feel things the same as others, but he does delight in aggravating others and pushing Randall's buttons is quite satisfying. Randall on the other hand has grown up under a controlling Grandmother and has learned to suppress his hunger, emotions, and even reactions. The two are initially quite antagonistic while at the same time seeming to enjoy the reactions that they provoke from one another. As Randall continues to stay these reactions slowly change and more things become revealed of what he is like out of the grip of his family and the strict control on his life. Broadmire also finds himself experiencing feelings and desires he never has, including fears of having to return from where all trolls come. There was quite thr divide between the two and at the same time some interesting similarities. It lead to a well rounded and involved story that was a truly enjoyable book!

Diosss, voy a admitir esto: Broadmire y Randall tuvieron un inicio sumamente frustrante (en mi humilde opinión), las constantes pullas y el tira y afloja no me gustaron precisamente pero luego me acostumbré a su forma particular de demostrar interés y simplemente los dejé ser.
Al principio me molestó mucho la actitud de Randall, antes de saber que, al menos en parte, se debía al hechizo que Gertrude la había puesto, porque luego de quitárselos se pudo ver un cambio en él.
Cuando Joe apareció adecuadamente (cuando habló con Randall después de que volviera) pensé que tenía algún motivo oculto, lo mismo que cuando fue a la cafetería y Broadmire perdió los estribos...solo un poco😂. Sin embargo no fue así y me alegro de que mis sentidos arácnidos se hayan equivocado😂
Randall fue demasiado bueno para su propio bien con la vieja bruja, lo menos que se merecía era que la dejara en el Unworld después de tener toda la intención de matar a Laura. Todo para que al final no aprendiera nada y mandara a un ridire a matar a Laura.
No me escondo, estoy esperando ver sangre correr cuando Dee y Dum le den su merecido, aunque probablemente no va a pasar.
Por último quiero decir que me gustó mucho que se planteara que Broadmire y Randall podrían ser almas gemelas, sin embargo me hubiera gustado que quedara un poco más claro, sino con una reclamación al menos algo que uniera sus vidas o sus almas como con los dragones, me parece un poco triste que no tuvieran eso, especialmente porque Broadmire pensaba que no se merecía un alma gemela, hubiera sido un final bonito, eso es todo.

2,75 stars rounded up. This didn’t work for me. I liked both MCs (particularly Broadmire) but when I hear slow burn I’m not expecting the characters to only get together 92% into the book and then being a flash-forward of a couple of months. The book isn’t bad, even though I found it very triggering, with how mean, manipulative, evil and awful Gertrude is with her grandchildren and this being the only book in the series in which there is a good amount of homophobia and internalised homophobia (by one of the MCs) and wih the same MC having an eating disorder caused by being shamed for being fat and being bewitched to obey his manipulative, abusive, fat phobic and homophobic grandmother.
Anyways, the whole Unworld plot is very very interesting. I just wish we had seen Broadmire and Randall together a bit (much) more.

In spite of the fact that I expected one of the main characters to be a dragon and that did not happen, I was still entertained by the story. The world building here is more complete for one of the characters as we readers get a good idea of the dynamics of the world Randell is from and what it must be like.

I didn't know it was possible to be grumpy and a sunshine person at the same time, but here we have Broadmire. I think he's adorable. I love Randall after he gets out from under his grandma's evil influence. Marcy is a sweetheart. I love her café. Laura and her are perfect together. I love this story!

It took me a while to warm up to either MC, but I ended up enjoying the story even though neither MC is a dragon, and this is called the Dragon's Mate series. Every other book in this series before this one had at least one dragon shifter as an MC, so it feels a bit like a side quest rather than like a logical continuation of the series.

Trolls and witches oh my. This was an amazing story I love how each story flows into the next. Randall and Broadmire were so fun together. They are there for one another and the made family.
