What's happening with this arc that's so full of epic moments!?? Tappei really outdone himself so far. I can't wait to see subaru as the strongest existence go on a rampage and destroy this shitty empire haha
Encompassing the 'Gladiator island' chapters of the series, it manages to highlight a plot point that I've thought about since the start of Re:Zero — what were to happen if Subaru's checkpoint were to change after he had already made an irreversable mistake?
A starting point that advances with every reset makes an absolutely delightful and horrifying read, as it removes the only safety net that a reader really has, beloved characters could meet their ends without any chance to bring them back.
Subaru's altered state of mind also makes him a fairly powerful character this arc, his charisma and unwavering determination finally have a chance to shine this volume, and I've loved reading every second of it.
I feel like this wouldn't be a proper review without praising Tappei Nagatsuki's incredible writing skills and Shinichirou Otsuka's beautiful illustrations. They truly do make the entire reading experience astounding and enjoyable, as I truly could read hundreds of pages in a row if I have the time.
To finish off on the positives, it also has the next biggest Re:Zero 'larp' moment in it (that being the 'hey you' axe guy moment), which ignoring the sillyness of the meme, was actually a really effective twist in the grand scheme of things.
The only thing I'd complain about is the confusing time skips that happen throughout the volume, as this is the first time that a multitude of loops have been cut out, it was hard to follow the path Subaru was taking to escape the loop.
A solid 4.7 stars out of 5 for me.
