With her people scattered, Imogen must find a new home.
The Sul’toral threat is over, but the Leier and the Koral are still not safe. Strange dark magical attacks persist, leaving Imogen struggling to protect those she’s vowed to defend.
Imogen knows Timo is behind these attacks, but given the power involved, he must have help.
When a new danger appears, Imogen finds herself facing a familiar foe, only this time she has a strange new ally—one that might be the key to protecting her people for good, but only if she can help them first.
A very good book, but a bit rushed compared to the rest of the series. I was a bit disappointed that the book went more of the magic and new power route than martial skill. However, I understand why this needed to be the case as so many characters have raised to ridiculously high power levels.
Imogen and her people have reclaimed their homeland kind now, the hard part of holding it against the dark forces against them, who just seem to be getting more powerful as time goes on. Can Imogen and her people evolve to what they will need to be?
It was not quite the ending I was expecting. In fact, there seems to be a lot more to do. I think I will have to read the Chain Breaker series. This story continues from book 9 of that series.
Unbroken is the twentieth book in The Chain Breaker World Series (First of the Blade #6) by D.K. Holmberg. It is an expansive, character-driven fantasy saga that blends fast-paced adventure with a rich, evolving world. Across its multiple interconnected books, Mr. Holmberg crafts a setting that feels both lived-in and yet still full of mystery — from bustling city streets to dangerous wilds teeming with magic and hidden threats. Mr. Holmberg excels at portraying characters with depth — flawed, determined, and shaped by the weight of their choices. The relationships, particularly the bonds of loyalty and trust, give the story an emotional core that balances the action. If you enjoy immersive fantasy worlds, morally complex heroes, and a blend of action, mystery, and heartfelt moments, then ‘The Chain Breaker World’ Series is a rewarding read that will keep you turning pages late into the night. Happy Reading…
In my opinion this was a fantastic culmination of this series. If you've started here, but hadn't read the Chain Breaker series, I HIGHLY recommend reading up through Book 8 A Champion Falls, before reading this one. Also, I absolutely recommend reaching this entire series before reading Book 9 Faith of the Fallen. I am VERY thankful that I read this, because with everything that's happened and everything that Imogen has learned, gained, and become, I would be very confused and lost without this. This shows us an interesting view on how the afterlife functions for the Leier and Koral. Also, we get a LOT more understanding of the Porapeth. I thought that the ending of this book and series was very well done, and allows it to tie neatly into the Chain Breaker series.
Enjoyed this book so much that I had great difficulty putting it down. The concept of people existing as fragments in the world after they died is intriguing, along with they could have their power and self absorbed by another.
After gathering all of the fragments of master Liu, Imogen moves to gather a bigger block of renral. All of this is leading to a great battle between Imogen, Lilah, and the fragments of Liu, Benji, Andeaz, and her brother Timo. Can Imogen live up to her destiny?
