It was a fun book. I used it in combination with Duolingo, YouTube , Instagram and a subscription to a Brazilian paper to emerge myself in the language. It helped a lot!

I read this book in about a month before my trip to Brazil. It was a very helpful overview of the language and culture. I was able to skip several sections that simply didn't apply to me — booking airlines, business phone calls — so I didn't feel like I was reading unnecessary things at any time. It also has some music and movie recommendations at the back, which was nice.
2022 publication makes it very up-to-date, more so than any other books I grabbed on the topic. For example it has a more accurate exchange rate, and a more modern view on the transportation/safety issues.
The vocabulary tables really helped me (along with Duolingo and Babbel) to grasp the basics of verb conjugations, and the sample conversations were good for reading comprehension and speaking practice. (They do have the audio online, too, so you can try for some listening comprehension.)
