After the cataclysmic EMP attack, the nation grows darker and more dangerous…
Two days after the disastrous town meeting, and Charlie thinks she might go crazy stuck indoors. But helping her next-door neighbor Kayla to find some diapers for her baby might not have been the uneventful errand she'd planned, and when she takes the trip to her parents’ place out of town, she comes across a sight that will haunt her dreams forever.
From Sam J Fires comes the brand-new End of Days series, a post-apocalyptic EMP survival thriller featuring flawed, complex characters, and adrenaline-fueled action and adventure. Perfect for fans of Harley Tate, Ryan Schow, Grace Hamilton, Kyla Stone, and Boyd Craven.
Sam J Fires is the penname of #1 bestselling author of thrilling post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction.
Sam lives in an urban jungle in the northeast of England with her two beautiful sons and an exceptionally noisy Bengal cat. Constantly dreaming about end-of-the-world scenarios and how she can plunge her characters into impossible situations, she can only hope they will somehow figure their way to safety. Sam’s characters are imperfect, brave, but able to endure the direst predicaments. A person who would hate to have to survive the elements, Sam wouldn’t last five minutes in one of her own stories.
Before picking up a pen, Sam worked as an attorney for many years - she still does - but her dream is to put the law behind her and work full time as an author.
*3.35* These books have fast moving plot points with low character development. Nothing wrong with that, I just prefer to sink into characters and feel those emotions. Lots of telling over showing.
In this fourth installment, we are back with Charlie, her grandmother, Ruby, and all the small town characters. Harper and Javier have chapters as well.
Post apocalyptic Multi pov Not a romance Us vs them attitudes Religious fanatic
This series is a slow burn in terms of communities unraveling in the aftermath of a massive power outage. No one knows the reason it happened, everyone is sure the power will come back on, yet panic has begun to set in. People are cold, running out of food, and basic necessities.
Grip of Fear Cass, Isaac, and Daisy (the dog) Grip of Darkness Charlie (Cass’ sister), their grandmother, Ruby, and the cast of the small town (Harper & Javier) Grip of Terror Cass, Isaac, Daisy
Ruby's granddaughter Charlie loves being helpful around the neighborhood, but what happens at the local store, between rivals? At the hospital things are getting pretty desperate without power, and tempers are fraying, with staff and patients alike. Nurse Harper's overworked and stressed, while her National Guardsman boyfriend, Javier, sympathises. Mayor Martinez, a detective and a churchman try to find a resolution that's right for all, without actually, pleasing anybody at their meetings. Tension rises, Jason plots a coup and tempers fray, leading to a fraught situation without winners. How does the story conclude?

We get to see Grip of Death through more than one character's eyes. We get Charlie’s story and how she steps up to help her neighbors in their time of need. Charlie lives with her grandmother Ruby. When one of Charlie’s neighbors needs diapers for her baby Charlie volunteers to help the young mother out by looking for them herself.
We also get to see through Harper’s eyes. Supplies are running low at the hospital while the hospital itself is overflowing with patients. Harper is doing her best to champagne for more supplies and the hospital. While the only Doctor left at the hospital wants to close it down.
In town, supplies are getting low as someone is stealing from everyone. People are starting to panic. If something is not done soon like more supplies brought in it could become catastrophic for everyone.
Who is stealing everyone’s supplies? Why would they even do such a thing? What is their purpose for doing so? What is their agenda? When disaster strikes evilness will pop its little head up almost every time.
Grip of Death reminds me of the Left Behind novels. One character, in particular, makes me think of Left Behind with the things that he has done and is planning.
Grip of Death is a fast-paced read that grabbed my attention from the first page. I love stories like Grip of Death. I love the end-of-the-world vibes. I like reading about people when disaster strikes and how they handle it. The world-building for Grip of Death is phenomenal. I like getting the story from more than one character. This way you get to know more of what is going on in their world.
I can’t wait to read more from this world, the End of Days series especially after that ending. I can’t wait to see where it goes next and what is going to happen.
I would recommend Grip of Death to all end-of-the-world stories! Grab your copy of Grip of Death today!
An excellent fourth part to this new & exciting EMP and of the world! The adventure continues for the main characters, thrilling stuff! I really like the characters & story line & find the plot development well thought out & a very enjoyable read! I do recommend all of this series!
We can always count on Sam J Fires to give us a book that you can lose yourself in and Grip of Death is no exception. His high standard of writing shows through in this fast-moving book that has a few dramatic diva moments thrown in. The no power is bad enough but running low on food and having no water is seriously getting to the residents of Meadowview. The hospital, with very little resources, is getting overrun by a sickness emanating from a clump of people who resorted to drastic measures by drinking water out of a still pond. A group of men has been put together and armed by Detective Perkins who has now left the police force. Hector Ramirez is ousted as Mayor and the way is now clear for Perkins to step into his shoes. Perkins is now at the top of the food chain and has been voted in by a few residents in Meadowview as the new Mayor at a town meeting. At the risk of being repetitive the book is great. I can't wait for the next one Grip of Madness. I highly recommend it.

Back with Charly and the event in Meadowview. What do you do when you start to realise things are not going to improve soon but are getting worse?
Howard the deluded psychopath starts to reaps havoc: “He let a genuine smile split his face. Everything was coming together, and he couldn’t be more content. Soon, his flock would grow. He would lead a massive following into the next life, where they would treat him as a king for sharing his enlightenment with so many people and saving their otherwise doomed souls.”
Great and well written story. It keeps you wanting to know more and how each of our hearts and other the characters progress through the devastation.
I have received the book free from the author and decided to review it.
Continuing story that is a slow burning down of civility, and community . The Hospital is on the verge of closing ,and a diabolical dude and his followers are stripping the town bare. Will the former detective be the salvation or the despot ? no power , not help coming , what will happen ? this series is fast , action filled read .I am an Honest ARC reviewer check your boredom at the door of this one..
Loving this series as the tension builds and the town begins to splinter into vested interest groups who will only be looking out for themselves. A number of characters emerging who must soon meet head on as the powerplay continues.
Charlie is still classed as an outsider though tries to help the town's folk as best she can. Harper is horrified that a doctor has run off with all the supplies and the board want to close the hospital. There's lots of unrest in the town as supplies are running low and people are thieving. A religious cult has set up on the outskirts of town and appear to be up to no good. Yet another fantastic cliff hanger ending.
Things are definitely heating up in book 5 of the End of Days series as the story continues switching back to Charlie and Harper, as society continues to break down.
Grip of Death: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (End of Days Book 5), my fifth read from author Sam J. Fires . A well-written, entertaining read, 3 hours, 24 minutes/126-pages in length. Again we switch settings & primary characters going from Cass back to her sister Charlie & Ruby. “I received a free Audiobppks.com copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." Narrators Stephanie Willing, Stacy Gonzalez, & P. J. Ochlan bring the book to life! The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Tensions are high and attitudes are getting bigger. Things in Meadowview are hitting levels of scary and there is no end in sight. It has been only days since the power and everything went out, but it could be weeks or months. Supplies are limited, some being stolen from an unknown source to the residents (tho we know who is going it).
Charlie is going to have to make a decision about visiting her parents to help someone in need. What will it cost her? Is the price too high? Her heart is big, but is her courage as big?
Harper is at the hospital doing all she can to keep it running and people being treated. Tho up above don’t necessarily share her beliefs, what is the future of the hospital?
Sam J Fires taps in like no other to human nature and what good/bad comes out of us when we are in dire/desperate situations. Must read, but that cliffhanger will get you HARD.
Grip of Death End of Days #4 Post-apocalyptic Sam J Fires ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
This book returns to the characters from book 2, which was a little confusing to begin with but it soon became clear what was happening.
I liked the action and there was quite a bit of plot progression.
I found the behaviour and actions of the townspeople very realistic. I think people in real life would start to panic very quickly. I want to know what Howard is planning because it's obvious that he isn't a good person.
Although I'm enjoying this series, I wish these books were slightly longer.
The ending was a good cliffhanger and I'll be starting the next book straight away.
Another fun installment, as the chaos continues to escalate … this one gives us more of Harper and Ruby and the small town in general … so not much with Issac, Daisy & Cass at the moment, and hoping to see how they’re faring.
But wow, this one manages to tug at my heartstrings, in addition to keeping me on the edge of my seat. Once again, very well done.
In Meadowview there's more than a superstorm to bring fear into people's hearts. Lack of food, water and other necessary things, as well as one man's desire for power in a cult and another who desires control of the town are all causing the town life to fracture. The people are turning against each other. And that tension is very clear on every page of the book. It was impossible to stop until the end. And then there was the biggest cliffhanger ever! Forget chores and meals. The next book is much more important!
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Well written thought induced plot. The survival of Charlie and Meadowfield continues. Supplies are low, Charlie turns to her parents for help and the town folk want a new leader. How will the residents react when the food/water supplies are virtually non-existent and the hospital no longer has medical supplies. Looking forward to finding out in the next instalment. Recommended. I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily leave an honest review.

I have to admit that Charlie, Ruby, Javier and Harper are all interesting and likeable characters but I’m not as much a fan of them as I am of Cass, Daisy and Issac. This adds so much to the story but I’m more inter different characters. I mean the story and characters hold my attention and I read with page turning urgency - so that’s good. I’m off to find the next book… I NEED to know what happens next!
I'm hoping to see a little more of Cass in the next book. This is a cruel world when you have worked hard and made sacrifices in order to be prepared for hard times and people think that they have a right to your hard earned supplies. Hmmm...sounds kinda familiar.
Ok! I like the story but the townspeople are just so stupid! How can they think the storm had caused the cars to stop working!? It’s like everyone in town forgot they used to drive everywhere. The story is good and I have also had enough of the people calling others outsiders! Does that really happen in a small town!? I’m a little frustrated!!
I really like how each book has a different set of POVs. The uneven books show Cass and Isaac on their way to Meadowview, and then the other books show what's happening in Meadowview. Also great way to keep me reading as this book ends on a cliffhanger which probably won't be resolved in the next book.
Book four in the grip of death series. Civilisation in Meadowvale is disintegrating. Town people turning on each other. Charlie is still trying to help the neighbours but will it be enough
Now that was a cliffhanger. Good book but stopped at the wrong time with no warning in the synopsis. Great fleshing out of the characters so far. Enjoying the series.
The violence and hostility are heating up in Meadowview. A new leader has been elected but seems only interested in what he can get out of it. People are ill from drinking contaminated water and the hospital may close.
This is the 4th book in the series and the books should be read in order. There was some suspense as we read about the little town of Meadowview falling apart. It is a great story and now on to book 5.
