His throne is on the line, and so is his heart. All he must do is fall in love with the right girl.
Prince Barrett never planned to fall in love, but the law requires him to take a wife of royal standing to ascend the throne. Hoping for a decent match, he invites Lady Charlotte to the palace and attempts to fall in love as his time to marry runs out. But someone else unexpectedly catches his eye and threatens to upend his plans.
Jules’s passion is for tutoring students, but she never thought she’d have to teach the man she loves how to date another woman. As she coaches the prince through his efforts to develop a relationship with Lady Charlotte, it becomes evident that it’s the wrong relationship deepening, and she may be too far in to pull her heart out now.

Who likes contemporary royal romances?? 🙋🏼♀️ Okay, I’m super excited for book two and that little teaser at the very end of Liam’s perspective sure was a teaser. Gah!
This book was adorable and if you’re a fan of cheesy romance that makes you giggle like a little girl, this is for you. 😄 It’s full of cheese! 😍 The cover was beautiful, the story fun, and the series has great potential. All in all, I’m looking forward to reading any books Amanda writes in the future. This Bookstagrammer turned author has a lot of potential. 😁
Sweet romance, multiple wooing lessons, and the characters. Many things to like. 😍 The whole dynamic of Jules meeting Barrett and helping him woo another woman was hilarious! Barrett is soooo awkward and cringy and you can’t help but love him. Sigh. I’m sad I have to wait for Amanda to actually write book two for me to read it…but alas, I can be patient. This was a cute read and one I’d recommend—especially if you like royal romances.
This book surprised me in the best of ways! It is reminiscent of Princess Diaries, Kortney Keisel’s “The Rejected King,” and two of my other favourite royal romance authors, Anna Augustine and Olivia Lynn Jarmusch.
What did I love:
• Barrett and Liam’s relationship • Barrett, Liam, and their dad watching a reality dating • Wadsworth the utter gem of a butler • Rory and Jules’s cute dynamic • the art of “smouldering” lesson featuring Tangled had me dying • Barrett and Jules’s “Dear Abby” notes were priceless • Charlotte and Jules’s friendship • the perfect balance of being sweet, light hearted, and yet real
I read this book late at night (er… early in the morning) and had to muffle my laughter at 3am so many times as not to wake the rest of my household.
Okay Royal Romance lovers , here you go! If you're looking for a Cute + Clean Royal Romance which makes ght also count as contemporary+ a slight bit Regency with great characters and fun plot look no further
I had a wonderful time getting to know Barrett and Julie. They are both such sweethearts with silent strength on the inside and a beautiful desire to improve the lives of others around them.
💕 Their banter and their efforts to avoid their attraction felt so cute to read on!!
I like all the characters in this book , there are friendships built , obstacles overcome and you could feel the way Barrett and Julie got to learn , know about each other and falling in love They were perfect for each other
✨ Adorable meet cute ✨ Dating Coach ✨ Great characters ( each had their strengths and flaws but were well written into the plot) ✨ Forbidden Romance ✨ Forced proximity ✨ Character growth ✨ Friendships that touch your heart ✨ Handwritten letters 💌💌 ✨ Red dress moment' 💫 ✨ His mother's letters y'all- so sweet( I felt like crying !! 🥺) ✨ References to Tangled and pop culture ✨Library lessons Secret kisses !!

Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“I always knew I would have to make sacrifices for the kingdom as a member of the royal family. But I never thought I might have to sacrifice a future with the woman I love for it.”
I haven't read very many modern day royal romance books, but this one was very cute. I loved the main characters, Jules and Barrett. The forbidden love was an interesting aspect, and the dating lessons were very cute. The letters were some of my favorite parts of this story, and side characters are probably some of my favorites. Wadsworth, Liam, Charlotte, and Rory just made this story so much better. I'm think I'm actually more excited to read the next book in this series just because I have grown to love Liam so much in this book. This is Amanda Schimmoeller's first novel, and she is a great writer/storyteller. And the cover.... isn't it just amazing?
If you are looking for a PG modern-day royal romance book with dual POVs, then check this one out!
Very sweet romance! Unlikely romance between a prince and an assistant to a future duchess. I love how she describes him as "hot as a Hemsworth brother!!" 😘😍 I absolutely love his brother Liam and cannot wait to read his book next!! ❤️ 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love a good royal romance and this debut novel from Amanda was super sweet and amazing!
I loved that this royal world was contemporary with references to The Hemsworth brothers and Flynn Ryder’s smolder. The best!
Barrett is in need of a wife as he prepares to take the throne when he finds out his father is ill. He invites Charlotte, who he has known from his childhood to the castle as she will make the perfect wife on paper. The only problem is he is so awkward speaking to women and needs her assistant Jules to help him woo Charlotte with some dating lessons.
You will definitely fall in love with both Barrett and Jules! Jules is adorable and so uncustomed to the Royal treatment. She is so kind and selfless. All of the characters are great! I love the relationship between Barrett and his brother Liam. Liam had a fun personality and made me laugh many times.
There were just so many things to love here. The meet cute, the forbidden romance, late night baking, all of the letters, the red dress, and the first kiss! I enjoyed the twist at the end and the set up for the next book which I immediately bought!
It’s the kind of romance that will have you smiling and grinning the whole way through.
Yay for Amanda Schimmoeller's debut novel releasing next month!
Be sure to check out this book if you enjoy:
•Royalty romance •Cinderella vibes - prince + commoner- forbidden love •Family plays a big role •Fun FMC who helps the MMC gain confidence- a dating coach situation!
Barrett and Jules are the sweetest and I was really rooting for their HEA the whole way! Also the twist at the end was my favorite!
This book contains no bad language, no innuendos, and the romance is completely sweet/clean!
This was a fun read. I love Jules and her relationship with her family and Rory. Prince Barrett is so endearing with inability to talk to girls. I loved his loyalty to his country and down to earth personality. I loved the meet cute and all the nods to pop culture. I loved Wadsworth and Liam, too. There were many moments that reminded me Princess Diaries. If you love Disney, pop culture references, Cinderella-esque storyline, and an HEA, then tryout this book. It releases October 3rd.
Thank you to the author for the eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
– this is the start of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Barrett & Jules’s points of view
– Barrett’s mother passed away in a horse riding accident (past event)
Review:
Oh my goodness, I really loved this royal love story and I can’t wait for the next one! 😍 I loved how awkward Barrett was and how deeply Jules fell for him. I loved Wadsworth, Liam, Charlotte and the king! Each of them had important roles to play throughout the story and I loved how they interacted with the main characters! I also loved Wadsworth’s matchmaking attempts and Liam’s teasing of Barrett. I loved Jules’ heart for the people around her. And I loved the ‘dates’ that they all attended and how Barrett wouldn’t (or should I say couldn’t) forget that Jules was with them even though she was Charlotte’s employee. Some of my favorite scenes included: the apple challenge, all the dating coaching lessons, the ball, the letters (all of them), their first meeting, a runaway horse, and getting tea for Wadsworth.
In order to be king, Prince Barrett has to marry a woman of royal standing. But he hasn’t had much luck charming women in the past, let alone falling in love with one. In an attempt to rectify that, Barrett invites Lady Charlotte to the castle to hopefully fall in love with her and she him. But one chance meeting with another woman causes Barrett’s thoughts to stray to someone else. Could he be trying to fall for the wrong woman?
Jules is Lady Charlotte’s employee and is joining her on the trip to the castle. But Jules enters the city earlier than Charlotte to sightsee and start planning before it’s time to get to work. While formulating plans for the project they’ll be working on, Jules bumps into a man that sets her heart racing. When they part ways, she doesn’t expect to see him again. But fate surprises her when the next day she enters the castle and finds him there. The man is none other than Prince Barrett, the man Charlotte hopes to fall for and marry in order to access her inheritance. He’s completely off-limits.
But when Barrett convinces her to coach him on dating and getting to know Charlotte, Jules starts falling for him more deeply than before. Who wouldn’t when the man she’s interested in starts practicing using her dating advice on herself? But Jules also knows that his plan is to become king, and she could never get him that.
Can they have the happily ever after they want or will they have to try to forget it in order to follow their dreams?
I enjoyed this story of tongue tied Prince Barrett trying to court Lady Charlotte, a childhood friend. He needs to marry in order to become king and she needs to marry before her 30th birthday. It should be a perfect match, but he needs help in not falling over his words all the time. But, as he needs coaching from a third party, love gets in the way and Barrett has a difficult decision to make. Marry out of obligation or marry for love.
I enjoyed the funny meet cute scene of Barrett being mistaken for a purse thief by Jules. You could tell that Jules and Barrett were going to be a great match right then. Wading through all of the messiness of courtship and royal court together life made this a fun read.
“He smiled at her in return, holding her gaze for a little bit too long and causing her stomach to fill with a million butterflies.”
‘A Royal Obligation’ by Amanda Schimmoeller is a modern day royal romance set in the land of Wistonia, complete with a beautiful palace, a dreamy Prince, and a sweet fobidden love story. This story gave me a modern day fairytale feel and I enjoyed being in the world the author created.
Prince Barrett must find a bride of royal standing to marry. One problem, he’s quite nervous and awkward around women. In comes Jules to assist him in dating lessons and the sweetest friendship and love story begins!
Jules and Barrett are both very lovable main characters. Barrett is a sweetheart who is organized, driven, kind and such a gentleman. Jules is helpful, charitable, friendly, cute, and lovely. I loved their meet cute and the mutual attraction and pining between them! I loved how they helped one another and I loved the romance between them. I kept turning the page to see how their story could ever workout.
🤍I loved the cast of characters in this book. I also loved the theme of family throughout this story. 🤍I loved the modern references to pop culture and Tangled!!!! My favorite Disney movie! 🤍Memorable moments included apple crisp, dating lessons, a certain dress and sweet kisses!
This book made me laugh, smile, get teary eyed, and “awww” out loud. Such a lovely debut novel and I’m excited for book two. If you enjoy sweet, heart warming love stories and royal romances you’ll enjoy Barrett and Jules’s story.
✨This book releases October 3rd!✨
Thank you to the author for an arc copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I was so excited when I found out Amanda was going to write a book! She was one of the first people I followed on bookstagram!! Because of this, I didn’t care what it was about, I just knew I’d be reading it! I was so lucky to get an ARC of “A Royal Obligation,” by Amanda Schimmoeller!
Barrett and Jules’s story blew me away!! It was enchanting and beautiful and I absolutely adore everything about it! All of the characters are easy to love! I’m super excited for possible future books, because there’s a few people I want to read more about!!
I also loved the fun hints of fall, with the Apple picking, all the pastries, pumpkin and chai lattes! I would definitely read this one again every year to help me get the fall vibes! There was some great depth in this book as well. It was emotional but also happy and everything in between which I really enjoyed!
Overall, AMAZING!! I highly recommend reading this book if you love royal romance and happiness!!!
*I received a copy of the book from the author, all opinions are my own.
I’m realizing that I really do have a thing for Royal Romances, every one I’ve read so far has just been such a fun, sweet read and Amanda’s debut novel is no different! Barrett and Jules are so quirky and sweet, it was fun seeing their story unfold.
Things I Loved: -“Thank you for coming. Please hesitate to come back.” -The Perfect Match -Wadsworth -“Your catastrophic sentence formations are safe with me.” -Letters -Flynn Ryder Smolder lessons -Letters from his mother -Stress baking -“Sometimes the hardest thing to do when facing our fears is to simply take the first step.” -Liam’s fake shock
If you like royal, forbidden, sweet romances then definitely read this story. I loved Liam and Charlotte too and I already can’t wait to read the next book!
This was wonderful!!! I am actually not a huge fan of romance books in general but i stumbled across the author promoting her book as being inspired by the princess diaries on instagram and I saw that it didn’t contain any spicy scenes (i hate spice in books) so I decided to give it a try. I absolutely loved seeing the two fall in love with each other from the two different points of view. I will say that the age of the characters didn’t seem to match their maturity levels at times. For example: one of the main characters sleeps with a stuffed animal. There also were some corny/cringy parts but it wasn’t overdone and I honestly didn’t mind it. I thought it was cute 🤷🏽♀️ I read this on my kindle but I’m planning to buy a signed copy from the author and I’m patiently waiting on book 2.
Amanda’s debut novel was a delightful read! Reading the love story of a prince set in modern times was so fun. This is a definite must read if you enjoy Tangled, the Bachelorette, and an awkward first encounter.
What I loved about this book: - The ending was happy, but didn’t magically tie up all loose ends. Already looking forward to the second installment! - A Commoner and Prince love story - Family Tie themes
What I didn’t love about this book: Nothing. It was that good!
I received an Advance Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
DNF OH MY GOSH. i thought this was gonna be like a silly little royalty romance to get me out of a reading slump but i was so wrong. the writing was like that one micheal scott meme where he’s like “NO” because that’s how i felt reading this. this book was written by a 12 year old im so sorry but it was. also why was it so fast paced like unrealistic?? girlie fell in love after meeting him ONCE. WE DIDNT EVEN KNOW THE GUY. i can’t. this was like way below my reading level and im embarrassed to say ive even read it to begin with.
"She laid her head back on her pillow and wondered how she was going to get through the rest of her time at the palace without falling completely and madly in love with its Crown Prince." "'But, in every relationship, love is perfect in its own way. It's what you make of it with the person you're with that makes it perfect between two imperfect people.'" This was such a sweet love story! A forbidden royal romance that makes you feel the giddiness of falling in love along with the angst of knowing that being together seems impossible. The characters in this story felt like friends! I loved that there wasn't a bad guy/villain, and the family relationships were supportive, even while dealing with challenges. The scenes came alive to where it felt like I was watching a movie. This was such a wonderful debut, and I look forward to the next installment in this series! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
What a great first book by Amanda Schimmoeller! I have the absolute pleasure of being in a wonderful book club with Amanda and I’m so proud of her and this book. It’s the perfect book if you love clean, contemporary romance, and the best part? It’s a royal romance! I’m pretty sure I’m ready to be swept away to Wistonia. Jules and Barrett were such great MCs and their love story was sweet and charming. I loved their meet-cute and how they were not only able to have fun with each other, but also understand each other on a deeper level. A few other things I loved about this story: • the power of a red dress • dating lessons *swoon* • late night (stress) baking sessions • bonding over a dating show • and of course the sweet letters throughout the story I can’t wait for the next book in this series (Go Liam!) and so excited to see what Amanda will write in the future!
I absolutely adored this debut novel by Amanda Schimmoeller! It’s a modern royal romance, with forbidden love, great humor, wonderful characters, and plenty of swoonworthy moments!
The characters in this book just jumped off the page for me. I loved how real they all felt! From Barrett’s adorable shyness around women, to Jules’s love of pumpkin, each character felt like someone I could see right in front of me. The side characters were also wonderful, and I can’t wait for more stories in this series so I can see them all again! I felt like all the relationships were so well written; I enjoyed reading about Barrett and his brother, Liam, as well as reading about Jules’s friendship with Charlotte. Wadsworth was another one of my favorite side characters. I loved his wisdom and his role in the story!
This book also has letters in it! While I’m not sure if I’d enjoy an epistolary novel, I absolutely love when there are letters or text messages in stories. The letters in this book made me smile and swoon, and several of them made me tear up.
I felt all the emotions while reading this story! I teared up several times, I laughed and smiled a lot, and the tension of wondering how the forbidden romance would work out kept me reading as fast as I could! This was a favorite book of the month for me, and I absolutely can’t wait for more books by this author!
5/5 stars!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was one of my most anticipated releases of this year!!! Amanda is such a sweet person! I’ve been so privileged to know her and talk to her! You could absolutely feel the hard work and love she put in to this story. I loved how I could see the inspiration she got from some of her favorite royal romance stories but still made this story completely her own and unique!
This book was another great Fall read! The royal setting mixed with a Fall aesthetic was amazing and very cozy!
I loved Barrett’s POV! He was such an adorable, bumbling sweetheart. 😄 His tongue-tiedness with women was hilarious! Jules was so selfless and kind and unafraid to be herself. I loved the other cast of characters from Charlotte to Rory to Wadsworth and so on! Liam grew on me too 😉😂
This book has one of those tropes where I just don’t see how they can get their happy ending. And, I was honestly surprised how it all resolved itself!
I am very much looking forward to Liam’s book next! I think I know who he’s gonna end up with… but I could be wrong.. 🤔 Either way, I’m excited! Definitely go pick this up for a beautiful Royal escape!
Extra parts I loved: The Queen’s letters Wadsworth Love at first touch 😉 THE ENTIRE BALL SCENE 😍😍😍 Their notes back and forth that turn into “Dear Abby” letters Flynn Rider smolder training 😂 “Live in each moment as they come. Just lean in and press on.” Apple crisp! The hug scenes The Apple tree incident Jealous Barrett The glass pumpkin Horseback riding 🐎😘 Jules’ Mom’s whole speech Liam’s fake shock 😂😂😂 The super sweet and kind of surprising ending! + the teaser for Liam’s book! So much drama right out the gate!
*Thank you so much Amanda, for the privilege to be on your ARC team! All opinions and thoughts are my own and genuine.*
A Royal Obligation was such a cute, sweet introduction to Amanda Schmilloeller as an author as this book is her debut novel. I’m certainly interested to see more from her, especially as she settles more and more into the groove of writing. I’m a sucker for royalty romance novels so this story definitely hit my guilty pleasure itch for that trope. When I think of “forbidden romance,” for some reason I think it’s going to be wildly inappropriate. But A Royal Obligation gave me a great example of what a sweet, clean forbidden romance can look like.
Barrett is the crown prince of Wistonia and he needs to get married. And relatively fast. He needs to be married to become king and his father, the current king, is ill. One of the most important details is that his wife needs to be royal. The problem? When an old friend, a lady of royal standing, comes to visit and help with a school renovation project, Barrett intends to get to know her to propose marriage, but he finds himself more intrigued with her assistant Jules, who is most certainly not of royal standing.
I adored Barrett. The poor guy enlists Jules’ help to learn how to woo Lady Charlotte as he finds himself stumbling over his words. He’s just absolutely precious and I do love the cute moments they share, even when they’re trying not to knowing they can’t be together. While I wish the ending had gone a slightly different way (won’t say why because I don’t want to spoil anything!), I feel like the way it ended was probably much more realistic, which I can appreciate. Still, it was a happy ending so that’s what I look for! I have an inkling of where book #2 is going to take us so I can’t wait to read that book as well to see more of Jules and Barrett, and see if my gut feeling is right. I’m very interested to see what happens next with Liam. I highly suggest adding A Royal Obligation to your TBR.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am leaving an honest and voluntary review.
This book is every little girl's dreams written on page! The prince, the princess, and a beautiful love story.
I loved the magical vibes that this story embodies. The "once upon a time" filled with castles and kingdoms. The meet cute was funny and adorable. The interactions between characters were sweet and tender.
If you love royal romances and happily ever after's you're going to love this debut novel, A Royal Obligation!
This book was cozy and heartwarming and hit all the right notes for me. Schimmoeller strikes the perfect balance between formal and fun in this modern-day Cinderella royal romance.
I thought Barrett and Jules were adorable—as individuals and together. I appreciated the way the author developed their friendship over time. It made the romance that much sweeter. This is a feel-good book, perfect for anyone looking for a delightful comfort read.
Some of my favorite parts: - Barrett's relationship with Liam - The manly bonding nights 😅 - Jules & Charlotte (women supporting women…we love to see it!) - Rory and Wadsworth and the whole castle staff - Dating lessons - The letters. All the letters. 😍
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
I love being able to read friend's books!! Amanda's debut novel was so good! I love that she put little snippets of herself in A Royal Obligation! You can really tell she put her heart into this story! ❤️
I loved Jules and her need to help those around her. It was evident in the way she cared about the kids at the local school and how much she wanted the best way for them to get education while overlooking the renovations to the place.
Barrett, the Crowned Prince of Wistonia, was such a kind hearted handsome man!! He really cared for his country.
The meet cute was so great! 😂And the romance!😍
One of my favorite side characters was Barrett's butler, Wadsworth. He reminded me of Mr. Carson from Downton Abbey. He felt like part of this royal family and I loved it!
I really enjoyed how much family was part of this story and following one's heart and was definitely not expecting part of that ending! Barrett's brother, Liam was my favorite! 😂I can't wait for his story!
If you like:
-Funny meet cutes -Royalty romances -Great side characters -Tangled - Books with hallmark movie vibes -Fall -Food (all the mentions of food made me hungry😋) -A Hemsworth brother look alike
Then you should definitely check out A Royal Obligation!
I received a complimentary, advanced copy of this book from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
A debut novel by friend and amazing author Amanda Schimmoeller is a MUST READ! If you enjoyed @authorkortneykeisel desolation series then this is your next read! Amanda has created a Royal world that could be happening in present day, with references to Flynn Rider and his perfected smolder, being as hot as a Hemsworth brother (🥵) and TV shows similar to the bachelor. All wrapped up in a sweet, closed door romance that makes swoon with delight!
I don’t want to give away too much, so here are my Favorite parts:
📝Meet-Cute 📝Late night baking 📝The Red Dress 📝Dating lessons 📝The letters! 📝Apple orchard 📝Horseback riding 📝The Guys’ TV show obsession
You’ll fall in love with Prince Barrett and Jules in a heartbeat!
Congrats Amanda on your first book baby! It was amazing! And thank you for allowing me@the opportunity to be on your ARC team and the complimentary copy of the ebook.
