Getting beyond the annoying fan service on the cover, the stories inside didn't advance the story. the fake-Yakuza cousin was fun, but that's pretty much the exact same idea as the entire "Way of the Househusband" manga so it seems less funny than derivative. And the Tokyo Disney storyline is cute, but it really feels like filler and is less funny and entertaining. The main characters are still endearing and interesting, but this felt like a less compelling volume.
**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The first half is actually great. We get to meet Nasa's cousin and he's SO funny. A tough high school kid that looks Yakuza but isn't. Plenty of laughs in the first half and I LOVED the bonus chapter at the end of the book, super cute and a bit...sexy!
The later half of this volume deals with Nasa's old teacher and it has some cute/funny moments but drags. I also didn't think we did anything fresh or exciting with any of the characters second half. But this just a small stumble in otherwise excellent series.
Well, this has just settled into amusing sitcom mode, playing around with the characters in various situations and settings, while tabling the questions about the female lead's mysterious past. And, hey, as pleasant as this is, I'm okay with that.
Nasa and Tsukasa are cute. Look, I don’t know what you want from me. This one focuses on cosplay, cats, theme parks, and other sundry topics designed to make things as cute and fluffy as possible.
Fly Me to the Moon is one of those irritating series to review because it’s perfectly fun and charming at what it does and it never, ever deviates from that course. Nasa and Tsukasa act all flirty, there are some very random gags of varying degrees of hilarity, typically pretty good, then it all moves along until the next episode when things will inevitably repeat themselves.
I will say that the addition of Nasa’s relative who is a diligent school president but also talks and acts like a yakuza boss is pretty funny but is definitely blunted by the fact that Way of the Househusband has practically raised that particular joke to high art. This guy’s okay, but nothing beyond that.
Things get better, as they often do, when a cat is introduced into the mix, an adorable ball of spunk that certainly encapsulates the pet-owning experience (I have experienced both the feeding thing AND Felus interruptus before). Lots of fun with that one, plus Nasa knowing a shocking amount of surprisingly accurate information about cat care.
The other huge section involves our wedded couple having their first date at a theme park. Lots of good jokes abound in this one, plus a great side story featuring Nasa’s old teacher who is too dense to realize that she’s clearly on a date (I love the soccer commentary on this one).
And then the book ends. I mean, it was good, not great, and it’s cute, but nothing special. Just like most every volume. I read this series because it is a consistently fun little palette cleanser that I can count on to be perfectly enjoyable.
I will single out the bonus manga, which comes back to the whole cosplay thing from a way steamier angle and is an actual good example of how to show two consenting partners who are way into each other in an adult fashion without being risqué. It’s seriously hotter than any fan service I’ve seen lately.
3 stars, maybe bump up to 3.5 if you’re really starved for cute cat antics in your life. It’s another volume of this series, which is probably all I needed to write in my review, but I do like a word count.
This is going nowhere and at this point every chapter is a 4th wall home followed by "ISN'T THIS CUTE?????" It has no substance to it, though to be fair, it never did. But the fact is, the lack of substance is getting old and there is little if anything to keep me reading.
In this volume, Tsukasa fills in at the bath house while the owner is away, and Chitose and Aya, who are both there at the same time, end up becoming friends. Later, Nasa's yakuza-wannabe cousin Ginga comes to visit, with a problem: he found a stray cat, but can't take care of it, so he asks Nasa if he and Tsukasa will take care of it instead. They agree, and Nasa decides using a cute kitten to get closer to Tsukasa isn't such a bad idea, but Toast (the kitten) has other ideas. The couple do get a kiss in, though. To thank the couple and as a wedding present, Ginga gives them tickets to a theme park which is in no way a thinly disguised Disneyland (wink wink), where they run into Nasa's teacher, Yanagi Sensei. She's there with a male coworker, Taniguchi Sensei, and appears clueless that he likes her, and that they're on a date. Now Tsukasa & Nasa's date has turned into a stalking mission- they want to know if Yanagi ever figures things out, and if Taiguchi gets the courage to confess (I'm not saying). Other things happened too which may or may not have involved Tsukasa wearing a school uniform and that's all you're getting out of me! There are little meta comments sprinkled throughout that were cute and fun, and the art remains dreamy and sweet. This sweet little slice of life series usually gets 4 stars from me, but this volume gets 5 because........reasons.
This series is so frikkin funny! OMG I just love it! Nasa is such a nice guy, Tsubasa is cool, reserved, and gorgeous. Her sister though, wow, super-stalker! The bath house girl, I call her Harley, she's my kinda gal. This is one of those few series that every volume, I repeatedly LOL while reading it. Sly, sly humor. Ah, such fun. After a visit from Nasa's cousin (what a screwball lol) and the introduction of a new character or two (Toast! What a cute name! Who doesn't like toast?), the rest of this volume involves Nasa and Tsubasa attending the theme park to end all theme parks... and who just happens to show up? Well yes, little sister, and the "combat maids", but also, one of Nasa's Sensei, who was invited by her male coworker, who is in love with her. She just doesn't realize it yet (but, fear not, kind readers, there is a happy ending for those two). All in all, another great volume in a fantastic series.
Nasa‘s cousin, Ginga, who acts like a yakuza man but he’s really a normal high school student, has his “boys" bring in a feral kitten they found outside their high school. Nasa immediately takes it to the vet to get completely checked out. When the vet asks for his name, Tsukasa offers up "Toast" because the kitten has a lighter square of fur on its back and it’s mostly brown. Once Toast is back home settling in, he starts getting in the way of Nasa getting close to his wife because he's constantly demanding food. Ganga presents Nasa with a wedding present: two tickets to the Land of Dreams, a theme park. The young couple decided to go to the park as a date. Tsukasa has never been and is excited to try everything. They weren’t the only ones who had the idea to come as a date. Nasa's teacher is invited by a colleague who doesn’t know how to confessed his feelings for her.
Just when I thought this series couldn’t get any cuter, now there’s a kitten named Toast. And Nasa springs into action to take care of the kitten with the same level of savvy that he has for pretty much everything in his life. Nasa is giving a good name to everyone who has lots of practical smarts as an adult, and showing that going to college isn't the only way to gain that knowledge. Nasa's cousin adds another layer of humor on top of Chitose, Tsukasa's outrageous sister. The theme park is “coincidentally" very similar to Disneyland, so anyone who has been one of the Disney properties will appreciate this outing. Seeing the budding relationship of the two teachers was also pretty adorable. Hata just has a way about making everything so sweet.
In this volume, Tsukasa fills in at the bathhouse for their kind host who is allowing them to stay in their home. We meet Nasa's cousin Ginga, whose name means galaxy. They manage to adopt a stray kitten and name it Toast. Tsukasa and Nasa go to a theme park where they run into one of Nasa's former teachers who, unbeknownst to her, is also on a date. #FlyMetotheMoonVol6 #NetGalley
This series can always cheer me up, it's not the deepest thing you're ever going to read, but it doesn't need to be. Volume 6 was more slice of life shenanigans and we got to meet a new character, Ginga (he's kinda sketch). Was also surprised to see more of Yanagi (Nasa's old teacher), she had a great part in this ^_^
Looking at other reviews it is funny how so many of us can react to the same material in such varied ways. For me, Volume 6 was great. It moved things along, didn't spend inordinate time "just being cute". Guess if my library system gets some more I'll take a look.
Another good installment in the series. This continues to deliver some good laughs and hits many good notes for a slice of life. It sticks to its formula well and doesn't disappoint.
Are we ever going to get back to wondering about Tsukasa’s backstory? Is she from the moon or what???? This series is cute but there’s not enough substance??? It’s also repetitive?
Masih menceritakan tentang hubungan suami istri muda, yakni Nasa & Tsukasa.
Duh aku pengen sih ni cowok makin sering muncul. Jadi dia yg bawa meng buat diurus sama Pasturi kita, mana tingkah si meng ucul.
Banyak humor yang out of the box, selipan cerita tentang guru Nasa juga bagus. Volume kali ini cukup oke, walau makin ke sini kita makin dibuat lupa sama jati diri Tsukasa itu sendiri yang masih misteri. Mungkin Mangaka emang sengaja buat mendam jati diri si Heroine kali ya? 😅
