Lieben Sie Geschichten? Menschen, Ereignisse, Spannung? Oder halten Sie es mehr mit Essays, mutigen Gedankenflügen zu außergewöhnlichen Zielen? In beiden Fällen lesen Sie bitte etwas anderes. Zwar treten bei Kapuscinski durchaus Menschen auf, reale Menschen, meist Literaten. Aber all diese Mini-Portraits führen nicht über sich selbst hinaus, bleiben Anekdote. Auch Geschichten werden erzählt, so ist es nicht, aber nur Mikro-Dramen als Anschauungsmaterial für die konstatierte globale Misere. Und statt auf den Transkontinentalflug gedankenreicher Essayistik bittet der Autor die Leser lediglich zur Floßfahrt auf dem Strom privater Reflexionen. Ein Driften, das Zeit lässt für genaue Blicke auf die Welt entlang des Ufers, Blicke immerhin eines hochgebildeten Bewusstseins, eines weit gereisten Europäers. Aber die Passagiere müssen bereit sein zu einer Lektüre von über 300 Seiten. Da Kapuscinski den Gedankenstrom nicht durch Staumauern aus Kapitelüberschriften unterbricht, erschient das Buch tendenziell endlos. Warum gerade auf Seite 335 Schluss ist, bleibt unklar.

Es muss eine Leserschaft geben für dergleichen, denn dies ist bereits der zweite Band, den Eichborn herausgibt. Sie hören schon: Der Rezensent gehört nicht unbedingt zu dieser Gemeinde. Dabei: Ich habe viel angestrichen, wundervolle Funde lassen sich machen. Der Satz Werner Heisenbergs etwa: "... denn wo kein Inhalt mehr nach Gestaltung drängt, hilft es nichts, neue Formen zu erfinden." Vielleicht so etwas wie die Erklärung für Kapuscinskis Schreiben. Vermuteter Antrieb von Kapuscinski Lesern: Wir letzten gebildeten Europäer hören uns beim Denken zu und kein Franzose wird uns einreden, es handle sich auch bloß um weißes Rauschen. --Michael Winteroll

About the author

Ryszard Kapuściński debuted as a poet in Dziś i jutro at the age of 17 and has been a journalist, writer, and publicist. In 1964 he was appointed to the Polish Press Agency and began traveling around the developing world and reporting on wars, coups and revolutions in Asia, the Americas, and Europe; he lived through twenty-seven revolutions and coups, was jailed forty times, and survived four death sentences. During some of this time he also worked for the Polish Secret Service, although little is known of his role.

If you think that by the fact of read so many books of Ryszard Kapuściński you possesed enough knowledge about the topics he was writing and nothing can possibly surprise, touch and move you, you are wrong. This book brings so many memories and thoughts. Those notes are accurate and truly transfer you to the events they are all about. Books of Mr. Kapuściński should be read by all the people, and the world would be way better. I still learn a lot from each his book, and I'm becoming sad, that nothing new will come from this genius and genuine reporter. Lapidaria is a true journey full of pleasure, fun and sadness at the same time. Entire human life and seemingly simple but extremly complicated processes related to it in pure analysis with brilliant and sharp commentary.

Sam autor powiedział w tekście, że czytanie takich książek to jak jedzenie ciasta, w którym są same rodzynki. Mogłoby to powodować niestrawność, ale to Kapuściński więc pozostaje tylko uczucie realnego fizycznego zmęczenia w starciu z tym tytanicznym umysłem. A potem gigantyczna satysfakcja!

Zbiór zawiera trzy tomy Lapidariów Kapuścińskiego. Krótkie notki na różne tematy = wspaniały przykład krótkiej, a treściwej formy.
