Another fast-paced, heart-pumping C. G. Cooper adventure.
C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.
One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.
Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.
His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.
Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.
Black Mist (Corps Justice Book 19) Hmm, Black Mist!! Carlos what an awesome title! A very relevant topic for today, addressed by Cal and his brothers of the Jefferson Group. When Howard Prescott, a U.S. multi-millionaire, reaches out to Cal and SSI to do surveillance on his spoiled brat son in Costa Rica, the sh*t hits the fan.
Cal sends Top and Gaucho to Costa Rica to perform the surveillance on Jeffery Prescott who is an agent with the CIA. Thinking this assignment was going to be a simple surveillance on a spoiled brat turns out to be much more.
Neck deep in trouble in Costa Rico, Top and Gaucho get called back to SSI Headquarters. As Cal and Daniel replace Top and Gaucho in Costa Rico to try to decern what is going on with Jeffery Prescott and the group of thugs who had attacked Top and Gaucho. Cal and Daniel picked up the surveillance of Jeffery only to fall deeper into the fray…
Carlos at his best, again! The background development in the opening chapters may appear slow to some but lays solid ground to the topsy-turvy roller coaster ride, with a breath-taking finish!! Bravo Carlos!!
We’ll all have wait patiently to see where Cal, Daniel, and the rest of SSI wind up next???
The beginning is a little slow starting and different that usual, as the new characters are introduced and the needed background for the plot told. Billionaire Howard Prescott hires SSI to keep an eye on his troubled son, who is CIA working in Costa Rica. He feels that his spoiled son is up to nefarious things and would endanger himself and the country. Add in the assassin Wilcox and Lena into the story and things start to go sideways quickly. Things get bizarre when Daniel goes off the rails and needs to leave to work thing out in a support group. As the twists and turns as the story unfolds it will keep you turning pages. I think you will enjoy this book, I know I did!!
Doesn’t start very good, more like Clancy, wading through characters to see what’s going to bring this together. It take’s chapter eight to show some promise. As I read on this book doesn’t capture me Heor entertain me. He keeps introducing new characters, way too many! He is also writing out of character, when Cal gets caught Daniel sends Top & Gaucho home? Come on now—-this is SSI? This story has more to do with outsiders then SSI. So how Cooper started smoking dope, he has lost his way. This could have been a great book if he stayed closer to the Black Mist, but he legit drift off. Too bad because liked one review I read this book sucked! 2
Several extra characters to track, but each with their own contribution to the story. Having traveled to over 30 different countries I continue to be amazed and very pleased with the detailed accuracy of Author Cooper’s research for his novels. How enjoyable to read the description of a location and say, “I’ve been there, I’ve seen that!” A suggestion for readers: jump out of the series at about book 17 or 18 and read the first book of the Daniel Briggs series. Then return to these!
Great book you could read it stand alone and almost get all the relationships put together by the end of the book. However I did not expect Mr. Cooper to take the turn he did with snake eyes, after reading the postlogue however I understand why his mind went there as he was writing the novel and I also understand how it is hard to keep an objective mind when one of the characters you created want to go a different way.
SSI is hired by a billionaire businessman to watch his spoiled son who is also a CIA asset in Costa Rica. Cal's nemesis is also working in Costa Rica taking out Chinese men who are ravaging the native women. All this collides to cause some soul searching and when Cal is captured Daniel loses out to the beast and leaves to find himself. Great reading and as in the military you will always be there for a fellow soldier thanks
Love that the SSI hang is back together! 1i loved that things went sideways for everyone, it happens and we adapt and move on. I was in pin and needles waiting to find out Cal Stokes fate and that Matthew Wilcox had a tie in. I look forward to reading Daniels journey through his next chapter - will it include magic mountains and horses???
Cal and the guys are in Costa Rica working for a billionaire checking on his troubled son who is CIA. They encounter General Marty Hu and the Chinese he leads. They also must deal with the assassin Wilcox and Lena, one of his favorite people. In typical Cooper fashion, the twists and surprises keep coming. You must read this book.
What a ride that was! I have to admit, I didn’t see that one major left turn coming. A great story, as always. I absolutely love the duo of Lena and Wilcox. He’s the antithesis of Cal in a lot of ways- the yang to his Yin- and that makes him the perfect piece for the series.
As ever C,G Cooper doesn't just write a story, he paints a picture. As you read through each book the characters take shape to become living things, and the story unfolds and almost becomes a movie.
If you have not tried a C.G. Cooper book before.....why not???
This is book 19 in a great series. The twists and turns will keep the reader guessing and reading. There is enough action for all readers. Of course you are wondering where the characters will end up after the finish. Can’t wait for the next book.
Cal Stokes and 3 of his crew have a surveillance job in Costa Rico. It starts out pretty good - nice food, nice room at the hotel - until the real truth of the job came out. Suddenly they are in the midst of intrigue and treason - and things get messy. Every page is full of action, twists and turns. Enjoy every word!
Another Cooper masterpiece that required me to pay close attention to the story line because of the twists and turns throughout. Great to see “the team” back together again and to see Daniel recognizing his personal burden and doing something about it.
Just another great book by a fantastic author. This story has plenty of action and adventure to keep you turning the pages. And as usual there is always a teaser to make you wait for the next tale in this series. July can't come fast enough.
I really like the characters in this series! I’m not sure how I feel about the unexpected ending in regards to - I don’t want to give it away so you’ll have to read it to know what I’m referring to. I like happy endings💁🏻
I absolutely love this series, have read every one and the spinoffs, and my only complaint is it took a LONG time to follow-up. As always , great story and really added a touch of concern for Daniel.
This book felt different than previous books in the series and was still a great read, with surprising twists peppered throughout. Can't wait for the one
Chilling book quite masterfully written by C.G. Cooper. Get back to the guys at Jefferson Group spying on a CIA rogue agent. This turns up more mischief and toxic relations with a country attempting to inject its citizens in America.
This was a very interesting book. It certainly had a lot of surprises in it. The biggest had to do with Daniel. As the epilogue says we will learn more about it in the coming books.
Another Outstanding Book in th Corps Justice Series. It is an easy to follow read. I found it add to put down. I cannot wait for th next book in the series.
