A.K. Evans is a contemporary romance author of over twenty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.

Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!

When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.

Avalon has been crushing on Damon for 6 long years. And, while they’ve built a strong friendship, it’s never progressed any further. When Damon’s younger sister is kidnapped however, and Avalon is also taken, she is willing to sacrifice her own well being to help keep Morgan safe for him.

Already frantic and searching for his sister, when Damon realizes Avalon is also missing, his world is shattered and he realizes he should have made his feelings known when he had the chance.

Will Damon and the rest of the Harper Security Ops Team be able to rescue Morgan and Avalon before it’s too late, or will Avalon’s sacrifice be for nothing?

Sacrifice was emotionally raw and intense. Both Avalon harbored secret crushes for one another and were afraid to take the next step in fear of losing their friendships. But, when everything is laid on the line, their feelings can no longer be denied.

I don’t want to give anything away, but readers should be prepared for a darker story, as it really is a sacrifice that Avalon is making. This couple has much to work through, and the story is fast paced and even brutal at times and readers will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see if this friends to hopefully lovers couple can prevail. 4 stars!

I read Damon and Avalon's story in just one sitting. Their story is suspenseful, sweet and easy to read. The first time they meet each other six years ago, they already felt attraction for one another. However, they never act on it until something happened to Avalon. That's when Damon realised he couldn't live without Avalon. And I loved that about this story. However, I think the fact that they were only friends for 6 years without acting on their attraction is just too long of a wait. I wished it was shorter. But once they got together, they were all in immediately. I really enjoyed their story.

Wow. This book was everything and more. It goes to show what you will do for someone you love. I couldn't put book down once started.

I loved Avalon and Damon together, they've known each other for years. They both had feelings for each other, but took them for something hard to deal with to actually admit it. They make a great couple, and everyone is glad they finally got together.

I can't wait for more.

Be prepared. This one is a little intense. But honestly, I think that it worked in a way I never expected it to for Avalon and Damon! They’ve been friends for six years. SIX. YEARS. And she’s definitely been attracted for that long. But she’s firmly in the friend zone. So when the unthinkable happens not once, but twice, Avalon decides she better make the best decisions possible to fix the ugly situation she and his sister find themselves in. If that means sacrificing in a gigantic way, then she’s prepared to do that. But is Damon prepared to deal with the aftermath? Or will he throw everything away based on misplaced guilt and assumptions?

The most pleasantly surprising part of this story is the fact that there is zero playing around while pining for love. Oh, no. It would appear that “friend zone” isn’t quite where either of them lived. But they didn’t know that because communication on such a level wasn’t worth the risk of losing a best friend until Morgan helps Damon see his mistakes and the reality of what life has been with Avalon as a huge part of it. Once he gets that clear, all bets are off and he’s going to make sure Avalon knows exactly where she stands. The entire building up of friends to lovers to everything is such a fabulous journey that I couldn’t even be a little bit upset over a slower burn between these two. The way they keep honesty between them, the support and love, the friendships and family by choice. All of it helps this story be exactly what this series needs because it’s not tired or trite or repetitive. What it IS, though, is not enough. Not Damon and Avalon. They’re perfect. But now I want more! So color me impatient, but I can’t wait for more of this series.

Avalon has had feeling for Damon ever since she started to work at Harper Security, but she believed that they were destined to just be friends. When circumstances unfold and she finds herself kidnapped as well as his sister she shows how selfless she is when she is determined to rescue his sister with no thought of what it will mean for herself.

The two people that Damon loves the most are in danger and his greatest regret is what he didn’t say to Avalon. He will rescue Avalon and his sister and once he does he will show Avalon what she really means to him.

Avalon is strong and resilient while Damon struggles to overcome his feelings of guilt for what she went through. Avalon and Damon have always belonged together and they take us on a suspenseful and romantic ride as they realize it as well.

I have to say, the books releasing today have all come out of the gate with a bang, and Sacrifice is no exception. It's the story of Avalon, whose brother was working at Harper Security Ops already when he talked her into moving near him, and she got a job with them as well. From the moment she came face to face with her brother's best friend, Damon, she was very attracted to him, but instead of anything happening, they ended up becoming very close friends for quite a while. Everyone knew they were perfect for each other, but neither was copping to the secret feelings until something big happened, and Avalon found herself kidnapped. Yeah, it made for a very exciting, and yet, emotional story as the aftermath felt very realistic to me. I can always count on A.K. Evans to create fabulous stories, and I certainly LOVE her suspense stories as the twists come in hot, the humor is on point, and there's a kicker of heat without OW/OM drama. I CANNOT WAIT for more of this action packed series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

When I said I devoured this book I DEVOURED it! This was probably the quickest read for me - less than 12hrs (little sleep and nothing accomplished at work lol 😂)

Absolutely loved Damon ad Avalon’s story. I don’t normally like the friends to lovers trope but this one pulled me in immediately.

My heart broke when Avalon started getting tortured. She is such a self-less brave strong women standing up for Morgan. This one is getting a full 5 ⭐️ rating from me

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

Usually when I read one of these books in the series, I know what I'm in for: a bit of drama and suspense, a bit of sexy and a whole lot of romance, which all combines for a satisfying and enjoyable read for me. However, this one didn't deliver on the promise of a satisfying read for me. Sure, all the above listed components were there, but the main characters themselves was where I struggled the most with this book. I can't pinpoint an exact thing that they "did/didn't do" or were/were not portrayed as, but I really struggled to have an emotional connection to them, and that diminished my enjoyment of their story overall. However, I have to say that by far, my favorite scene in the series was the relationship reveal to the family...that was just totally how I pictured it would happen and it was chef's kiss epic! Based on that scene alone, I've got my fingers crossed that I'll enjoy my next read from this author!

I am so enjoying these Harper Security Ops books and couldn’t wait to read Damon and Avalon’s story. It is everything I thought it would be—sweet with a hefty dash of steam, emotional and suspenseful. One of the best aspects of this series is the family atmosphere and support at Harper Security, it never fails to make me feel wonderful as I read.

Avalon is such a fantastic character; she is gutsy, intelligent, thoughtful, caring, and compassionate. The one thing she needed, but then so did Damon, was a push in the right direction as far as their ‘friendship’ went! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Six years is a very long time to be secretly in love. Damon is your typical protective alpha male but his caring nature softens that side. He is fun-loving and an all-round great character—except for the same ‘too scared to take a that big step’ situation. 😁

The intensity of the action and suspense is high but perfect for the scenes. I would have been disappointed if it wasn’t as it would have been a whimp out—phew, this terrific author stayed strong and went full steam ahead into the greyer area. I enjoyed how things unraveled when the team was investigating the mystery.

I am so looking forward to reading Crushed, book six, where Jesse has his story and we meet Sawyer, who I already like just from the prologue at the end of this book, talk about exciting!

Wow, this was one hell of a hard-hitting story. Full of intensity more than any of the other books in this series. This story is a hard read, the best kind of hard read. One where all that happens is necessary and needed. I am so glad the author hit it head-on and doesn't shy away from anything. Making for a more intense story.

Damon and Avalon's story is a long time in the making. 6 years to be exact. The problem is whether a friendship of that long is worth the risk. I won't even answer that or give anything away with this fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat read. The family feels to this book and series are like no other and that is the draw I get from this series.

This book is thoroughly enjoyable and had my emotions everywhere. It was a hard book to put down and that is why I thoroughly recommend it. What a great read.

DNF @ 60% Will not be continuing this series.

I get it’s fictional romance and all, but I just found it difficult to connect to any of the characters and sympathize with the circumstances because of how lightly everything was taken with regards to the kidnapping, the torture and its aftermath.

Avalon’s mental fortitude must be unbelievably strong if after being rescued all her focus was just directly on the fact that Damon wouldn’t see her as a potential romantic partner anymore. That’s where the story just lost me because typically a person who had gone through significant physical and mental trauma would be distraught and borderline catatonic trying to process everything to cope. And yet somehow, Avalon was only beside herself because Damon was absent during her stay at the hospital? It was almost as if she was expecting to all of a sudden have him sweep her up into a relationship in exchange for her sacrifice in saving his sister. The aftermath just felt way too transactional. You can argue that different people react in different ways, but violently assaulted victims definitely do not immediately sought out romantic relationships as a reaction. It just felt a little too unbelievable for me personally.

As for the Damon? It was pretty unpalatable that he claimed he loved Avalon for years and yet was so quick to abandon her during her most difficult time just to assuage his “guilt.” Again both their reactions to the trauma have been disappointingly tame. The story focused WAY too much on the internalized romantic dialogues than the events actually happening. The balance between events and romance weighed heavily towards the romance that it took away so much impact from the story. I found myself bored a little over half way through to the point I decided it wasn’t worth finishing anymore because of the predictable direction the pacing and plot was going in.

Sacrifice is the fifth book in Ms. Evans' Harper Security Ops series and it is one that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. With each turn of the page the mystery of who and why is at the front to f your thoughts. This is Avalon and Damon's story and it is one that gives us two people who have been fighting this pull they have for one another.

Avalon is now working at Harper and Damon and they have become very good friends. They have put each other in the friend zone and nothing will come of it however, they are both pining for each other. Not until his sister is kidnapped does everything become more intense. Avalon goes missing as well and this puts Damon and the team in a spiral that is almost impossible to deal with. Why does Avalon not fight her captures? She has the training but she has her reasons. When the truth comes out on why she did what she did how will Damon deal with it? Will he finally get his head out of his butt and see that Avalon is the one for him. That she does things because of her love for him.

Ms. Evans always has a way of getting me so engrossed in her characters and her storylines that when I see THE END I get upset. I want more of her stories and her characters. With each and every new book she writes, the characters bet more and more interesting and the storylines more and more intriguing. Harper Security Ops is one series that should be on your TBR list.

Harper Security Ops has a roster of hot guys that look like a Magic Mike show but no one shines brighter to Avalon than Damon. He's protective and funny and oh so sweet to her.

The pretty receptionist at Harper Security Ops has had Damon's eye for far too long. She's gorgeous and sweetness and light in a job that all too often turns dark. But they're the best of friends and neither wants to jeopardize that. Six long years of building a beautiful friendship when both of them secretly yearned for more. Regrets about never telling each other how they really feel pile up when she's kidnapped, along with Damon's sister, Morgan. Desperate to get them both back, Damon and the team pull out all the stops to rescue them. But learning Avalon sacrificed herself so that Morgan could escape almost breaks Damon. They have a lot of scars, physically, mentally and emotionally to deal with but there's no way Damon could walk away from this incredible selfless, badass woman he's fallen in love with.

This was an incredible moving, emotionally raw story. I've always loved these characters and enjoyed the friendship but knew there was more here. And Avalon is so much more than I ever gave her credit for! Her strength and selflessness was astounding and the depth of her love as deep as the ocean. Beautiful story. Fantastic read!

Readers should be prepared as the sacrifice is not easy and could be triggering for some.

Avalon is my ALL-TIME Favorite A.K. Evans Heroine!
Those who regularly read my reviews know that I read every A.K. Evans book I can get my hands on. From the very first book, I have been sucked into each and every series this talented writer has created. “Sacrifice,” Book 5 of the Harper Security Ops lineup, is my new favorite (a thought that seems to emerge with each new title), and the heroine is my all-time favorite female character in all of Evans’s stories. Damon Knight and Avalon McCoy are familiar side characters to Evans’s readers, and many of us were hoping for this pairing to come. Damon is a genuinely good man who would stop at nothing to protect those he loves, and it sure doesn’t hurt that he’s smokin’ hot! Beautiful, selfless, and immensely loving, Avalon may be even braver than every other Harper Security employee, including Damon and her big brother, Magnus. The way the author weaves the history of the couple’s friendship into the current tale is so heartfelt. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, while the unfolding relationships between Damon and Avalon, and between Avalon and Damon’s sister, Morgan, were clearly developed with care. Masterfully written and so very special in my opinion. A stellar example of why I am and will continue to be such a fan of A.K. Evans’s work.

Oh lordy! Damon and Avalon are the epitome of slow-burn, best friends sibling, protector romance!

Avalon has loved Damon pretty much since she met him. He sees her as a capable person, not just his friends sister or a colleague. They've evolved into best friends and surrogate family over the years. But when Damon's sister is kidnapped Avalon tries to keep her found family in perfect health by feeding them but on the way she too is kidnapped. She may just be the admin at Harper Security but she is far from helpless. She took advantage of every class offered to her. But she won't leave without her fellow captive.

But when she helps Damon's sister escape, the abductors take it out on Avalon in a pretty brutal fashion,

My favourite bit about this book is that once Damon and Avalon get out of their self-imposed friend zones, they go from 0-60 in no time and there was no break-up in the 3rd act either. They've already done the getting to know you, favourite food/colour, etc, and have essentially been dating withour the label! Damon did have to get his head out of his rear end but that was a him problem not a Damon-Avalon problem.

This series just gets better and better!

Damon & Avalon

The best decision she'd ever made was to let her brother talk her into applying for a job at Harper Security Ops where he worked with a group of former military men who were the best at what they did. They rescued the kidnapped, and people trafficked as well as provided protection just to mention a few. Best of all they were all gorgeous--especially Damon, her brother's best friend. Too bad they seemed to be in the friend zone.

Their friendship continued and even progressed as their years with the company continued. Sometimes she thought there might be more but then no, just friends. When danger hit personally the whole team worked without getting anywhere. What could she do to help?

The danger got even more personal and the team had more grief with no leads! Could they save those close?

Great story and characters. Watching the two get closer but keep that bit of distance will make you want to shake them both. What will it take to bring them together? Will they even have a chance or will the enemy keep them permanently separated? This is another winner in the series and I'm ready for the next!

Damon and Avalon have the sweetest slow burn love story even though they both were in love with each other secretly for YEARS! The friendship between the two was lovely to read in a series of time hops done so nicely! You know how sometimes you get a time hop and you are like “what’s the point?” Not with this story! Those time hops are used just perfectly to illustrate the depth of their friendship and how they fell in love without telling each other!!

Then tragedy comes around and we get the action and drama into the mix. Kidnapping and torture can be too much in some stories with too many gruesome details that you are peeking through your fingers to read. But not in this book, AK Evans is able to bring us into the situation as spectators without going overboard. It was nicely written.

I listened to a majority of the story in audible, however at the end when I couldn’t have my headphones in I had to finish the last 3 chapters on my kindle because I just couldn’t wait for the kids to go to bed to read the ending. The narration brought these characters to life and I thought they were perfect for their role.

We are back with the operatives of Harper Security Ops and this time the story belongs to Damon Knight.
For the past 6 years, Avalon has been crushing on Damon but only a friendship has developed for fear that more could ruin what they have.
When Damon’s sister Morgan is kidnapped and Avalon steps in to help and gets herself kidnapped as well. When the realization of what’s happened to the most important women in his life, Damon is besides himself .
Determined to rescue them before it’s too late, Damon and the entire Harper Security Ops operatives will stop at nothing to get them both back home safe and sound.
In this rollercoaster ride of emotions, danger, and a story filled with bad guys, and good hunky ones, the listener is kept on the edge of their seats.
Will Damon and the crew be successful in the rescue? If so, will Damon and Avalon realize life is too short and they should profess their love?
This was another engaging story in this series made even more enjoyable thanks to the narrators Maxine Mitchell and JF Harding. Both who bring the story to life.

This book is a fantastic edition to the Harper Security Ops series! Avalon and Damon have been friends for years and neither one wanted to cross that line even though they both wanted to. When Avalon finds herself in danger she finds herself making a sacrifice in order to help Damon and his family. When Damon learns of what Avalon has done and been through-he's done being her friend. He wants it all and he wants it with Avalon. Avalon is an all around great character. So many books focus on the male being the hero and making the sacrifice to put themselves in greater danger but it was refreshing to see a female character take the reins and be the unsung hero. The book was the perfect amount of action, suspense and love. There definitely were some intense scenes but they were written perfectly. Reading Avalon and Damon’s love unfold through the pages make you forget that they are fictional characters. I love this series and I can’t wait until the next book comes out. Andrea’s books are an automatic buy when they are released.

Sacrifice (Harper Security Ops 5)

This is the fifth book in this series by this author and these books just keep getting better and better the more you read. This is the story of Avalon and Damon, they have known each other for years but never took the plunge together. This is one intense, action-filled romance read from start to finish. Once you start this book there's no putting it down, you are just sucked into the story from the first chapter. This is an amazing addition to this already incredible series from this very talented author. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

Gorgeous long slowburn romance over 6 years. This is Damon and Avalon's story. These two are best friends and both fear they are firmly in the friend zone while harbouring strong feelings for the other. I adored the simplicity of these two working together and pining for each other.

Avalon is such a force to be reckoned with. When she is kidnapped and tortured, her only thoughts are to protect and shield Damon's sister. She is selfless and strong and brave. This is a bit of a tough read in reality. Avalon is left physically and mentally scarred by the kidnapping. And poor Damon is guilt ridden that he couldnt save her sooner.

I loved how easily these two fell in love and I loved their epic epilogue. This has one of the most satisfying epilogues I have read in while. And after what these two go through, it is thoroughly deserved.

Touching:
This was such a wonderful book. It was emotional and touching but there was also just the right amount of danger and suspense. I loved the close connection I formed with the characters right from the start. They endeared themselves to me and I was fully invested in their stories.
Avalon and Damon made such a sweet couple and I loved them together. I liked that their relationship didn't feel forced nor rushed. Overall this was another fabulous addition to an amazing series and I can't wait to see what comes next.

A delicious slow burn, edge of your seat, you will not want to put down the book. While Damon and Avalon have been in each other’s orbit for a while, they have been fighting the attraction. But Damon and Harper Security have to find his sister, who has been kidnapped, no time for a relationship.
The next sequence of events has the team scrambling, leaving Damon with regrets.

Sacrifice is an excellent addition to this series; as we go along, the books are increasing in intensity, and becoming darker. The addiction to reading faster is high, and I was sad to see the book end.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Sacrifice is heart wrenching and beautiful! Damon and Avalon have been hiding feelings for each other for years. It takes a horrible situation for their feelings to become known to each other. When they do, their romance is absolutely beautiful. I loved everything about this book- the action, romance, and co workers that are your family. Sacrifice is currently my favorite book of the Harper Security Ops series! I received an ARC of Sacrifice, I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.

I love love love that we get Avalon’s story! This friends to lovers story between Avalon and Damon is just everything and more. I loved the wit and banter between them but also the underlying sizzle between them that gives this story such a great slow burn. Avalon is just as fierce of a fighter as the men of Harper Security and no matter what, she will protect her family at all costs. My heart hurt as things played out. The twists gave it that much more depth. Evans hit it out of the park with this one and I am so in love with this series!

One of my Fav couples so far in this series and Avalon is my fav heroine in 2022 - a spine-tingle captivating romantic suspense at its very best, once again Ma Evans didn’t disappoint, this story had it all, a heroine who would do anything for the man she has secretly loved for years and Damon who will brave any battle to finally get the woman of his dreams, the chemistry as always was sizzling hot, and the Epilogue just made my romantic heart beat that little faster. Thank A K Evans for once again surpassing all my expectations.

This is the fifth book in this series, and this is Avalon and Damon’s journey. When Damon’s sister is kidnapped, Avalon sacrifices herself to save her. Can these two move on from friends / lovers? This is a well written story which is raw, gritty, and intense, and is a slow burn, emotionally charged story, with family, danger, suspense, intrigue, friendships, communication, sacrifices, secrets, and love, which leads to a compelling page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
