A man looking for a new lease on life. A woman finally ready to live hers. Can their love be a lifeline?

Catalina Garcia is a cancer survivor. With the threat of her annual check up looming over her head, she decides not to wait for the results. Instead, she is going to start checking as many things off her bucket list as she can. Until her resolve puts her face to face with the town bad boy.

Westley York's medical discharge for the Army put his family in a financial bind. He needs a job and soon, if he's going to keep his family together. So, getting involved with the wide-eyed girl with a No. 2 pencil and a crazy to-do list is definitely not on his agenda. But she’s trusting—probably a little too much, and Westley discovers that she’s determined to find her wild side, with or without him. Worried she might get herself hurt—or even killed—he reluctantly agrees to help Cat with her bucket list.

It was only a week. One week until Cat finds out the results of her test and West is finally free of his past. Too bad all it takes is one week to fall in love.

The Heart of the Wounded Hero series was created to pay tribute to and raise awareness of our wounded heroes. Each of the over eighty authors involved have contributed time, money, and stories to the cause. These love stories are inspiring and uplifting, showing the sacrifice of our veterans but also giving them the happily ever after they deserve.

By increasing awareness through our books, we believe we can in a small part help the wounded heroes that have sacrificed so much. Thank you for reading!

The couple: Westley and Catalina

Romance trope: damaged characters/hard times?
Series: Heart of a Wounded Hero
Length: 127 pages

Plot: Catalina has battled cancer for most of her life, and she wants to check a few items off of her bucket list before her latest test results come back. When she meets West, she decides she wants him to be the one to help her. He's not as sure though. Cat's amazing, but he has obligations and there's too much at stake if she distracts him from what he's trying to do. She just may be the one though, and there's no ignoring that.

Commentary: There wasn't a whole lot about West's military service, which was a shame since that was the premise of the series. I also had a hard time figuring out West's age. I did like the Princess Bride theme, though, and it was nice that what was essentially an insta-love story was also slow-burn. Cat definitely seemed younger than her age so it was appropriate for them to wait a bit.

I know I keep saying the same thing over and over for this series, I'm just so in love, obsessed and addicted to it. I really can't put them down from start to finish.

These are fantastic, inspiring, sweet and sexy, instalove short stories written by various different authors. They tug (no rip) at your heart strings and set off almost every emotion possible, laughter, tears, horror, rage, sadness, happiness and love. Did I mention I'm addicted to this series? Like seriously I can't read them fast enough!!!

They have great characters that are realistically flawed, emotionally broken, physically damaged and have some demons but they are beautiful, determined, dedicated, fun, strong, committed, loyal, loving and by various means find that special someone or go back to the one, who makes them feel alive and whole again, then they start healing and are rewarded with their Happily Ever Afters!!

I highly recommend this series. I haven't been disappointed yet and it's for a great cause. Our US soldiers who fight for our freedom. I can't wait to start the next book!! Happy Reading!!!! If you'd like to support a hero go to https://heartofawoundedhero.com

Wonderful!! This was a nice quick, short read. I liked it, it is written in third person, not something I enjoy in a book!

Westley meets Catalina when he finds her out on the soccer field after his interview at the school. Westley is known as the bad boy around his hometown. Catalina never gets out of the house being sick with cancer twice in her life. She kicks the ball and it hits him in the face, she tells him she's sorry and he points out it's a volleyball she is kicking. They take off when the old security guard sees them, it's the position Westley came in to school to apply for. When they get on the Main Street in town West tells her to be a good girl and leaves. A friend from school spots Cat and asks her if she wants a drink, they head into the bar. Cat's never drank before and gets drunk quickly. A man know for a bad reputation finds her and takes her into a back booth and tries to take advantage of her. After West meets with his probation officer he goes to the bar to just grab a glass of water, and finds out that Cat is there and who she is with. West can just leave her there, so he goes to grab her but she throws up all over the man who is trying to take advantage of her. So West picks her up after she passes out and takes her home. The next day West wakes up early to take care of his sister, he's been doing it her whole life. He wants to make sure his brother and sister have an education unlike what he had. After he gets his sister on the bus, Cat almost runs him over with her car. She tells him she wants him to come with her and cross off something else on her bucket list, skydiving. After a little convincing West goes with her, but takes her into zip lining instead. On there way back home Cat spots a fair in town and asks if they can go, so they stop. While on the Ferris wheel West gets a phone call from his sister, she is home alone, but their father paid a visit. West's father is a drunk and never comes home unless he is drunk, he know his sever year old sister shouldn't be alone with their dad. When they arrive back at West's home he tells Cat to stay in her vehicle. Cat witnesses his father stumble out of the house drunk and how West handle him. His sister comes out when their dad tries to grab her she stumbles, Cat goes to her and hugs her until her father leaves. West asks Cat if she can make it home or if he needs to call her a cab, she says she can get home. West tells Cat she doesn't belong in his world and he doesn't want her in it. When West goes inside his brother and sister tell him maybe he needs Cat in his life. Cat gets home and her parents want to know where she's been, she tells them out with a friend. When Cat gets settled in her room she tries to pull up the movie that West always takes about "The Princess Bride" but she says it wrong. West is in her window and corrects her, he tells her he came to apologies. He wants to know what's on her bucket list and she shows him. West puts the list in his back pocket. Cat tells him he might want to look at the first thing on her list and he sees it her first kiss. She they share her first kiss together, but she tells him she wants to add to the list and go to first base. He feels her breast she wraps her legs around him and tells him maybe go to another base but he tells her no that's enough for today. West wakes the next day to get his sister ready for school, he tries to make breakfast. His brother comes in and protest, he's usually the one to make the meals in the house. West gets a phone call from the school that he got the job. West takes his sister to school then heads over to Cat's home. Before he goes he stops by to pick up some flowers for her, the woman asks if they are for Cat. West isn't sure what to say so he doesn't say anything. The woman asks him if she had a relapse West isn't sure what she is talking about, then he finds out Cat has had cancer. West knocks on her front door, her mother comes to see who Cat's new friend is. Cat tells her mother that's there check off some things on her bucket list. West tells her they're not, not in her condition. Cat realizes he knows about her cancer, so she takes off running. West follows her close behind. When she collapses he catches her and carries her back into her home. Her father is there and asks him what he did to her. They call the ambulances and then West is arrested for assault. When Cat wakes up in the hospital she is laying in bed with an IV in her arm. The nurse comes in and Cat assumes the cancer is back, but it's not. Cat had low iron in her blood and just needs some medicine and green leafy veggies. When she finds out that her father had West arrested she tells him West is a good person, he needs to make this right. West is in jail and his probation officer comes to see him. She tells him he can't get out of this one, with the judge pressing the charges. Soon the sheriff comes and tells West all charges are dropped, and the Judge wants to see him. The judge tells West that his daughter vouch for him that he's a good person, and his daughter should know. He tells West he better not hurt his daughter, Cat. West goes to pick up Cat at the hospital, she tells him she has a new list, to move out of her parents home, finish school and get a job. West asks Cat if he can take her out on their first date. A few weeks later Cat has moved into her new apartment. West comes over to visit her, she has a new list, it's hanging on her bedroom wall. It's the 100 Kama Sutra Bucket List scratch off poster, Cat and West want to work on getting through that list. West tells Cat he loves her and she tells him she loves him.

🤩 wow

This was a truly a very touching, wonderful great read. Wow. No it didn’t have any raunchy sex scenes (a little sexy at the end), but it showed a true heart of a hero. Cat battle cancer off and on her whole life. West was judged because of his addict parents, being arrested for something he didn’t do but took the blame for it, and rumors of him being a bad boy. Medically discharged because of an injury, he fought hard to provide for his siblings. When he meets Cat he instantly try ti run her away but Cat saw something in West he didn’t even see himself. Again this was really good. 😁

Lifeline: Heart of a Wounded Hero

She never had a chance to live because of her illness. He spent his life fighting rumors and lies. She wanted his help with her "bucket list" and he accepts. Because of him she learns how to enjoy life and because of her, he gets redemption for his image and they get their HEA.

Absolutely loved the newest book in the Heart of a Wounded Heroes series. When you have been sick your whole life people look at you differently than Cat decides to do a bucket list. On this journey she meets West a recently retired soldier who has the whole town against him. I love how Cat sers him and doesn't judge his past. These two have been some of my all time faves in this series.

I've never read this author before and was pleasantly surprised. It was a full story and not a fluff piece. The characters were well developed and the adventures were fun.
If you enjoy The Princess Bride you should definitely read it.

Slow Burn...

Oh my, this was extremely slow burn. West and Cat didn't "seal the deal" until the end or so. This story was really about Cat finding herself, while West was just trying to be the best person he could be for his younger sister. Their meet cute was super adorable.
