Romance trope: damaged characters/hard times? Series: Heart of a Wounded Hero Length: 127 pages
Plot: Catalina has battled cancer for most of her life, and she wants to check a few items off of her bucket list before her latest test results come back. When she meets West, she decides she wants him to be the one to help her. He's not as sure though. Cat's amazing, but he has obligations and there's too much at stake if she distracts him from what he's trying to do. She just may be the one though, and there's no ignoring that.
Commentary: There wasn't a whole lot about West's military service, which was a shame since that was the premise of the series. I also had a hard time figuring out West's age. I did like the Princess Bride theme, though, and it was nice that what was essentially an insta-love story was also slow-burn. Cat definitely seemed younger than her age so it was appropriate for them to wait a bit.
I know I keep saying the same thing over and over for this series, I'm just so in love, obsessed and addicted to it. I really can't put them down from start to finish.
These are fantastic, inspiring, sweet and sexy, instalove short stories written by various different authors. They tug (no rip) at your heart strings and set off almost every emotion possible, laughter, tears, horror, rage, sadness, happiness and love. Did I mention I'm addicted to this series? Like seriously I can't read them fast enough!!!
They have great characters that are realistically flawed, emotionally broken, physically damaged and have some demons but they are beautiful, determined, dedicated, fun, strong, committed, loyal, loving and by various means find that special someone or go back to the one, who makes them feel alive and whole again, then they start healing and are rewarded with their Happily Ever Afters!!
I highly recommend this series. I haven't been disappointed yet and it's for a great cause. Our US soldiers who fight for our freedom. I can't wait to start the next book!! Happy Reading!!!! If you'd like to support a hero go to https://heartofawoundedhero.com
Wonderful!! This was a nice quick, short read. I liked it, it is written in third person, not something I enjoy in a book!
Westley meets Catalina when he finds her out on the soccer field after his interview at the school. Westley is known as the bad boy around his hometown. Catalina never gets out of the house being sick with cancer twice in her life. They take off when the old security guard sees them, it's the position Westley came in to school to apply for. When they get on the Main Street in town West tells her to be a good girl and leaves. A friend from school spots Cat and asks her if she wants a drink, they head into the bar. Cat's never drank before and gets drunk quickly. A man know for a bad reputation finds her and takes her into a back booth and tries to take advantage of her. After West meets with his probation officer he goes to the bar to just grab a glass of water, and finds out that Cat is there and who she is with. When she collapses he catches her and carries her back into her home. Her father is there and asks him what he did to her. They call the ambulances and then West is arrested for assault. When Cat wakes up in the hospital she is laying in bed with an IV in her arm. The nurse comes in and Cat assumes the cancer is back, but it's not. Cat had low iron in her blood and just needs some medicine and green leafy veggies. When she finds out that her father had West arrested she tells him West is a good person, he needs to make this right. West is in jail and his probation officer comes to see him. She tells him he can't get out of this one, with the judge pressing the charges. Soon the sheriff comes and tells West all charges are dropped, and the Judge wants to see him. The judge tells West that his daughter vouch for him that he's a good person, and his daughter should know. He tells West he better not hurt his daughter, Cat. This was a truly a very touching, wonderful great read. Wow. No it didn’t have any raunchy sex scenes (a little sexy at the end), but it showed a true heart of a hero. Cat battle cancer off and on her whole life. West was judged because of his addict parents, being arrested for something he didn’t do but took the blame for it, and rumors of him being a bad boy. Medically discharged because of an injury, he fought hard to provide for his siblings. When he meets Cat he instantly try ti run her away but Cat saw something in West he didn’t even see himself. Again this was really good. 😁
She never had a chance to live because of her illness. He spent his life fighting rumors and lies. She wanted his help with her "bucket list" and he accepts. Because of him she learns how to enjoy life and because of her, he gets redemption for his image and they get their HEA.
Absolutely loved the newest book in the Heart of a Wounded Heroes series. When you have been sick your whole life people look at you differently than Cat decides to do a bucket list. On this journey she meets West a recently retired soldier who has the whole town against him. I love how Cat sers him and doesn't judge his past. These two have been some of my all time faves in this series.
I've never read this author before and was pleasantly surprised. It was a full story and not a fluff piece. The characters were well developed and the adventures were fun. If you enjoy The Princess Bride you should definitely read it.
Oh my, this was extremely slow burn. West and Cat didn't "seal the deal" until the end or so. This story was really about Cat finding herself, while West was just trying to be the best person he could be for his younger sister. Their meet cute was super adorable.
What a brilliant story that this was. It has a really great storyline that draws you in from the beginning. These are really cute together. These two are really likeable characters that I loved reading about. This is one story not to be miss!!!!
