What happens when a Kaliah and a human share a mind-link?
“No crying in front of humans, my daughter.” Those were the last words that Flynae’s father, the Monarch of their people, said to her, moments before Lord Kovad Thyde killed him in front of her. When he touches her to kill her as well, the two of them become mind-linked, and he can’t go through with it.
Without the Monarch to keep them in check, the evil rulers are now free to use Flynae’s royal body how they see fit. What does she have that they need in order to solidify their hold on the galaxy? How will the human that loves her protect her from more powerful forces at work?
Get lost and fall in love with this dark fantasy, age-gap story as enemies become lovers and save each other. Note: The Monarch's Daughter is first and foremost a Kindle Vella story. This is a boxset of episodes 1-33. This story is considered ongoing and does not have a scheduled end date.
Twins Flynae and Sekarah are the daughters of Issiah, the monarch of the Keliah, a sort of tainted elf-cat person hybrid. The Keliah live among the humans of our world in mostly secrecy, often needing to disguise their appearances because they have cat-like eyes and elf-like ears, are stunningly beautiful etc. There are very few full-blooded elves left, and their missing brother is the known heir to the Keliah throne.
The monarch is murdered when he is out with Flynae and she develops a mind-link and bond with the man responsible for the murder. Though the story mostly follows Flynae, she and her sister are put under care of other senior Keliah, forced to go to school with human children and slowly grow apart despite initially only finding solace in one another.
I'm not the target audience, and honestly the product is not for me. The story is told in a serial like format, and I read the ebook. I didn't much care for the style and it was a very tell, not show style, and I think what was supposed to carry the emotional weight was what we were supposed to feel for the girls, but all in all I think the story felt like it was rushing to get to the good parts, and major things, like the girls growing apart from one another was waved off that one of them was into the preppy crowd, and the other liked figure skating, to me it seemed that a strained relationship between the two of them should have carried more weight than it did in the story. There was also cruelty done to the girls that was not handled well; for instance Sekarah had her appearance changed to look human, whereas Flynae did not, and she had all sorts of poor attention drawn to herself for no good reason. If the point was to make her feel bad, if you're changing an appearance, you can do more than the ears and eyes and you can make someone quite beautiful appear homely or plain. She's also raped and she escapes to her mental place of solace, and despite being given opportunities to discuss what's happening to her, she seems to hollow out and not do anything.
All and all I think what this story needed is the writer to go back and work on the story as a whole once the entire thing is written, and because it's so character-driven, to really think about what is going through the minds of the characters. Attention to details are most likely to help flesh out the world.

Maybe it's not about the length of time you've known someone; maybe it's about instant recognition on an unconscious level. -S. E. Hall
This was definitely a new twist on elves! The author did a wonderful job on world building, meshing Star Wars with Lord of the Rings and it definitely sucks you in. As a cat lady I especially liked how feline-like this subrace of elves was in part one. There's been controversy about the age gap but if you think of it, elves are older mentally than humans even if their body is deceptive about it. I enjoyed how supportive most of the FMC's family was to her pain and the side female character was just as lively as the FMC. The bond between the MMC and FMC was intoxicating to read about considering how they originally connected and I loved how it evolved.
This is a dark romance so be sure to check the trigger warnings!!
The only thing that I think that needs to change is making sure to identify the speakers. At times I got lost in the conversation until a little later or had to reread certain sections.
Now… I really enjoyed the story and the characters!! A dark romance, fantasy, with a touch of science fiction. Fantastic and a great way to bring them all together in one story!!
I really felt bad for Flynae, our MFC. She had to endure so much from such a young age, and one was from a person that she should have been able to trust the most. Uncle Eksar was her living nightmare from hell!! Can I just say I wanted to jump in there and rip him apart?? 😡
Another person she should have avoided, became her comfort and she found herself needing him more than she should have. Kovad who once was an enemy, now became someone in her thoughts and mind daily. Literally!!😉
Kovad, also known as Lord Thyde, took it upon himself to be her protector of sorts for reasons I can't say without being a spoiler. But let's just say, you wouldn't think Flynae would find comfort in him!! 😲
Her Uncle Senice and brother Fennec were unaware of the things that were being done to Flynae until near the end. A secret she kept to herself in order to keep them safe.
This story ended on a cliff hanger and I can't wait to see what happens next!! Will Eskar finally get what he deserves? Will Flynae end up in the arms of her enemy? Who will survive and who won't??
Bring on the next book please!! I can't wait!!

somewhere in this book is a shockingly well written social relationship between 14 year old flynae and her over 28 year old partner. the tension between them at times is romantically charged, but there is no actionable romance or sexual activity between them (despite allusions that there will be in future books). it’s a disappointment that i was robbed of what could have been an incredible “assassin accidentally adopts a new daughter” relationship in order to be given a shallow pedophilic romance packaged as “age-gap.”
this book is also plagued with FREQUENT continuity errors, some typos, and an instance of poor formatting. the plot diverts rather abruptly from political espionage and abuse to a bizarre lengthy period where we follow flynae and her stepsister through public school, ice skating, a house party, and a school dance which all have no pertinence to the larger political space opera at hand. the goal of the emperor and her uncle as established in the opening scene is to torture her and that she’s given ANY amount of freedom seems to be the complete antithesis to the pure violence and heartlessness which we know the 2 men act with.
You had me with magical elves and mind links, and you lost me with r*ping 12 year old girls and the underlying current of pedophilia throughout. Absolutely gross.
The story overall seems interesting, which accounts for the rating. I can't imagine having a telepathic connection to my father's killer, but obviously the main character is a LOT stronger than I am. It makes for a strange but intriguing conflict. Be warned, there are several triggers.
However, I'm not a huge of the author's style, but that's just a personal preference. Also this isn't a complete book. This book is a collection of chapters from the author's Vella series. And no matter how hard I try to think about this book as "Book 1 in the series", I get stuck on it being an ongoing Vella series. Again, my own personal hang-up.
But, it's a good read that is a little different from my usual reads, and it was enjoyable.

Uncommon tense makes it an awkward read. Storyline has promise.
*spoilers-Lord Thyde killed her Dad, but he can't kill he uncle who is raping her? He tells he he will protect her, always, yet lets the raping continue? Seems a little off to me. End spoilers*
For my clean readers: violence-murder, bullying, rape, and molestation. Romance-kissing. Underage drinking. Drugging drinks. Language-several words, including f-bomb.
This was a beautifully written dark romance fantasy novel. (Check trigger warnings) I love the character development. Flynae our MFC went through so much which really shaped her character giving it depth and creating empathy for her. The third person POV was interesting and not something I usually go for but I enjoyed it in this book. Definitely would recommend to any fan of dark romance fantasy scifi types. Cant wait to read the next installment!

I enjoyed this story. The author took a fairy out of her natural surroundings and put her in a human school. Love the idea. The author did a great job of showing her learning to live in this different environment.
It has a tape scene and a murder. Because of that I don’t recommend this to anyone under 16.
The book was clean of sexual content and profanity
When Flynae watches her fathers murder with her own eyes, it changes her life forever. From being placed in a horrible uncles care, being bullied, and so much worse, she is guided by a voice in her head helping her through every issue.
I had a difficult time getting into this book, but it got better the further I got into it. I was disappointed with the ending, but it left a good cliffhanger for the second installment of the series.
I loved reading this! Seeing Flynae grow into her powers and maintain her courage as life goes on was VERY enjoyable. Seeing how Kovad cares for her was swoon worthy. He doesn’t smother or over step with her. I’m excited for more of this story and to see where it leads!
I will point out that this book has a good amount of trigger warnings that should be read before starting this book..
Major Trigger Warnings ⚠️
Sexual Abuse ⚠️ towards a minor Rape ⚠️ towards a minor Violence ⚠️ towards a minor
Notes ☆
Wow... just wow...!!!! I did find the first few chapters hard to get into. I rarely struggle with books, but because things hadn't been explained yet and the world hadn't been built. I had no clue what a Kaliah was... or what was going on..and I got a little confused on what was going on I could understand if people stopped a couple of chapters in (( but PLEASE DONT ))
I kept going, and I am so glad I did. I read the book non stop for 4 hours 18 minutes - even giving up a good night's sleep lol simply because there was no way I was going to be able to until I knew what was going to happen to Flynae.
Flynae watches Issah, her father, die a very brutal death at the hands of a human at the age of 4 & this memory haunts her throughout her young life.
Kovad is a human whose life is unexpected twisted and tied to Flynae on the same night..
The character building in this book for both the main characters is amazing.. At times in the story, your heart breaks, and at others, your blood boils at what poor Flynae has to endure..
I dont want to give any more spoilers as I think it would take away from the beauty in the growth of both of them and their entangled story.. but I have already downloaded the next book. Even though I have 4 more books I have to read in the next 3 days.. I just need MORE..
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.
The premise of the book was intriguing: a hybrid elf who is the successor to her father’s throne.
The execution of this novel is entirely different. The plot was chaotic. I felt as if it was a transcript rather than a story. There are too many details. It would be better if the reader were shown what was happening instead of being told. It lacks imagery. It was also unsettling. I felt unease reading much of this book. I understand what you’re trying to accomplish here, but it misses the mark by a mile. I feel the book would have been stronger without the depravity. The protagonist does become more fierce as a result of all that she endures, but perhaps there could have been a better way to showcase this.
There are many grammatical errors, which made this read more difficult to get through. For example, gate was used when describing the way someone walks, when it should be gait. This happened multiple times throughout the novel.
To sum up, the overall concept is interesting, but it would have been better without all of the violence that Flynae had to go through. Or, simply, her character could be an adult, and it would be profoundly superior.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This book genre was new to me altogether, but I have to say that it's excellently written and very descriptive! Being new to this fantasy type genre, I wasn't sure if I'd get into it like I get into books of my usual genres (smut, mystery), but once I got past the first chapter, I found myself ot wanting to put it down! I felt like I could immerse myself in the world Tirzah created, and was really rooting for the main character and her protector. I liked this book so much, I immediately sought after the next installment to read! Im not sure if it was just a glitch, but my ARC had some misspelled words (like the one word used had a different connotation than the one I think Tirzah was going for) and there also was one sentence that got a few words in and then dropped off and went to a completely different sentence. I highlighted them in my electronic ARC, but am unsure if anyone else can see what I've highlighted. All in all, I'm extremely grateful to have been selected to receive the ARC of this book because I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I enjoy the storyline with the exception of the age of the FMC. In the beginning, she seems to be much more mature than the age of 4 that she's meant to be. Furthermore, it makes the relationship with her and Kovad that much more odd to me, especially towards the end when she's only 14. I understand that it's supposed to be a whole forbidden thing but personally, age gaps play off better when both characters are at least adults.. perhaps if the storyline had started with the FMC already in her early teens, making her a young adult by the end? Also. R*pe CW. I'm not triggered by anything of that nature, but still good to be aware of, as it's a common theme beginning somewhere in the middle of this read.
The character and world building were very descriptive, and did a fantastic job of allowing me to envision this story. I would love to see more lore of the Kaliah in the future. The mindlink is a lovely idea to explore, and I love the protective nature of Kovad, like a knight/princess kind of setup.

First off, I was terrified when starting this because of the fact that it’s in third person P.O.V. I usually hate third person except for a few authors (just 3 authors actually). The other books I read from this author were in first person so I was shocked by this one. I would have expected third person for horror, but not for romance. I’m not going to lie, I about quit this around chapter 15. I had such a hard time getting into the story. I think it was mostly because of the fact that it was in third person POV. But I pushed through and continued because I really like everything else I’ve read by this author so far. About half way through it started to get really interesting! I finished it and now I need to go find the kindle Vella so I can continue. It has Lord of the Rings and Star Wars vines so I’m going to recommend it to my boyfriend. Do check the trigger warnings, it’s a bit dark at parts.
*BOOK REVIEW* BOOK: The Monarch's Daughter AUTHOR: Tirzah Hawkins REVIEW: This book is part of an Amazon Vella series. We follow Flynae who is the princess of her kingdom. Her father is killed by Lord Kovad Thyde in front of her, and he becomes mind-linked to her when he touches her in order to kill her. He lets her live. She is mistreated in heinous ways by the evil rulers of her realm because her father is no longer able to keep them from doing it. She possesses something that could give them a hold of the galaxy, but what is it? She is later reunited with the man that killed her father, and her hatred for him never went away. He is in love with her, and soon we find her reciprocating those feelings with who she once dubbed her enemy. Will Kovad be able to save Flynae from the evil forces that pursue her? This age-gap enemies-to-lovers novel was fantastic! I loved every second. I can't wait to read more in this series!!!!! RATING: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It was a bit hard to get into the story at the starr only because it was jumping between so many characters. But the plot in itself was interesting though this new world was not clearly defined. I feela bit like I’m watching different episodes of a series while reading each chapter. I liked Kovad’s desire to do right by her. And I liked Flynae’s strength. I am disgusted with most of the other characters’s personalities and I am hoping for a bright future for Flynae. I am not sure I will be able to finish the story, though, as I don’t subscribe to vella. But we’ll see!
I rated three stars because it was good but not highly remarkable as of yet.

Firstly, how i read is probably like a lot of others. Im picturing the characters as i go. Slowly building the scene. Basically, bringing each character to life in my head. I liked the story. It does have the potential to grow, but there was no emotion. It all felt very robotic. Having said that, I loved Flynae and Kovad. I tended to forget how young Flynae is compared to Kovad. Having lost her father at such a young age, she's thrown into a life of abuse and fear. Worse, she has a mind link to her fathers killer.
This is an ongoing piece published on Amazon Valla. ( I've never heard of it before now). Sadly I've given up on these kinds of releases, as the cost can build rather quickly with no end in sight.

Please check your triggers before reading this book! The Monarch’s Daughter is the first of its kind that I have read so far. At one point, I was so uncomfortable and cried. But any book that can move me that much deserves a read for me!!! I was traumatized by what I read, but then I picked it back up and could not stop reading it! The author does an amazing job at portraying how someone can disassociate, and I was genuinely surprised by that. The dark fantasy element mixed with the real world was a nice touch. The characters in the book will grow on you. You will genuinely hate the villains, and it will make you route for the budding romance. The only question is, how much of a slow burn can you take?! The story and sequence of events were maintained quite well, which I appreciate. When it ended, it had me running and signing up for Kindle Vella just to read the rest of the episodes! I do hope the author makes this into a book series one day because I would love to add it to my collection on my bookshelves
The story of Flynae and Kovad is unique. It kept my attention and I kept wanting to read more in order to understand the reasoning for why the story was unfolding as it was. I did feel like it lacked some explanation or further reasoning for how our main character was being put in certain situations. Overall I think it is a good story concept, but it was hard for me to really enjoy it when I was confused as to why the main character was continuously subjected to certain experiences, "saved" or had "interference" with some, but it seemed inconsistent on the why it was was being let happen or the timing of the interference. I give 3.5 stars, but round up to 4. This is an ARC review for an ebook I received for free.
The Monarch’s Daughter is an interesting read and even though elven stories are common this book has a refreshing twist to this one. There is a relational mix of natural magic, elven beings, humans, and space travel. There are some dark concepts that could be triggers for some but they were written well. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because the first couple of chapters were difficult to get through due to overly heavy and somewhat repetitive descriptions. It became wordy and overbearing but in pushing through I ended up greatly enjoying the book and can’t wait for the next one.

This was an interesting read. Something different. Flynae, a Kaliah, witnesses Lord Thyne kill her father as a child. Eksar is appointed as her guardian and he doesn't like Flynae while he dotes on Sekara her twin. As she grows up she finds herself mind-linked to him as he comes whenever she needs a friend. The feelings between Lord Thyne and Flynae soon are intertwined when Lord Thyne continues to rescue Flynae as a teenager from those who want to harm her for being different. I look forward to more of this story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This. Book. I hadn’t expected the wild ride of this story. Just to get it out of the way, please mind the trigger warnings. SA, non-con, mürd€r, trauma. But the story is so different and the writing is SO good! I couldn’t put it down and read it all in one go! Flynae is a strong girl that has been through so much already in her young life. This is book one, and only goes through her first 14 years. It does end on a cliffy, but it is so worth it! The author treated every situation with respect and didn’t pull any punches. Flynae is lovable, Kovad is all that a MMC should be, the villains are heinous and I just can’t stop gushing. If dark fantasy romance is your thing, I highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this story. It was very refreshing to finally have the chance to read a 3rd person fantasy with just the right amount of romance even if it was fade to black. Flynae is not only growing into herself as an elf lodged in a human world, but you see her explore her sexuality, the romance between her and Kovad as well as find out just what she’ll do to bring her father’s killer to justice. Her powers and courage only grow as the story continues and I loved the character development. If you like sci-fi dark romance then this is the book for you!

This is not a usual novel or novella. It is 33 parts to a continuing story, with each story being a chapter with more to come. Personally, I will not be continuing the story.
Overall the stories are well written, smooth flowing and easy to read.
I didn't feel like I connected with the characters at all. While I won't post spoilers there were bits about this book that I was truly appalled by. I will warn that people who have triggers in regards to sensitive content may want to avoid this book.
The world development took me a bit to get into because I was a little confused. However, before anyone reads check TW fully! I did like the ‘fade to black’ rather than any detail and honestly was not expecting this in the story.
The character development was great; except I pictured the characters a bit older than they were which may have just been an ‘as a reader situation’ (?)
I am interested in the next book and how it all comes together, HEA??
I want to thank the author Tirzah for the ebook and all of the opinions/thoughts above are completely my own!
I had a really good time with this book. It was very quick and easy to read and get into. I really enjoyed the main character, although she goes through a hell of a lot of trauma throughout this story she is so strong and fierce.
I really enjoyed the world and I'm looking forward to see more of this world and learning more about it.
This is a kindle vella story so it feels incomplete because it is an ongoing story and unfortunately I can't get kindle vella in new zealand. I look forward to part two being released.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s my second read by the author and I’m really liking their writing style, world building, and character development. I loved the different points I’ve view I got to see through chapters as the story built. Overall a really good book. My only critique is that a couple of times I had to go back and reread after a plot development so I could fully understand how we got from point A to point B which took me out of the continuity of the story.

I really enjoyed reading this story. This book has a good storyline however, in the beginning it is hard to follow. Some of the characters did not seem to have a background and did make it harder to get a feel on their character. I will say to check trigger warnings before you read. This story can be found on Villa as well and this book contains the first few chapters. I will read the next book in this series and I still recommend reading it.
