The hooded figure smiled in a sliver of moonlight from a window, piercing the darkness. Instead of following the command, he turned, covered the baby with the cloak, and ran directly towards a window…

The high wizard lost his son and wife in one night, the one kidnapped, the other killed. And when the son returns many years later, it is not a reunion - but war.

The High Elder of Rohuna recognises Harsohn’s bladesmith skills, and he is drafted to create blades for the Rohuna army. But as an Alemoran, he can ride an Alemoran horse with more incredible speed than any other mount, making him perfect for another role, a messenger in the Wizards War.

“You have made your decision?” “I have, I will become the council’s messenger.”

This is the start of a new series, and it follows the adventures of Harsohn, a messenger in the wizards’ war rather than the war itself. With his magic abilities, and the skill to ride the fastest horses in the land, he takes on this role, and we follow him in his travels. From rescuing his family from the Alemorans, who don’t allow their citizens to work for the Rohuna council, to fighting off enemies (almost to the death) and meeting Avmey, whose spirit is in favour of his.

What I did like: . The overall story is good; although this one focuses more outside the war, it has lots of potential for future stories. I liked the idea that the forest they must travel through can only be entered when the barrier disappears. I hope this is used more in the future.

What I didn’t like: The writer is very descriptive, which some readers may enjoy, but it was a bit much for me, it slowed down the story. At times I didn’t like the writing style (for example, there were a few too many “he did this” type of sentences), but overall it was a good story.

I wish there were half stars, the story is a 3.5 for me but I'm rounding up like a good accountant.
