A Score to Settle

Cherringham #43

by Matthew Costello, Neil Richards

When Cherringham choir stalwart Arthur Chisholm is robbed in the dead of night, ending up in hospital, it seems he’s just the victim of bad luck. Bad timing too, since he will now miss the choir's special holiday performance of Handel's Messiah - to be performed with scores of other local choirs, in London's Royal Albert Hall. But as more of their fellow choir members are burgled, Jack and Sarah realise these crimes are no coincidence. With just days before the concert, can they unravel the mystery of who is responsible - and why - before the Messiah reaches its grand finale?

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

A good, sweet and short mystery narrated by DCI Burnaby!! :)

This episode was just okay. Nothing great here but I enjoy the characters so worth reading. The “mystery” was predictable but still interesting.

Excellent Musical theme

I love, love, love these books

I do so love these stories. Yes, some are better than others but they are all great to read. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Fun story, 1 error in telling

This is the reason I deducted 1 star: At one point in the tale, when Sarah & Jack were on their way to London for the huge choir performance, they were already seated in the bus (coach). Then later on, along with the others, they climbed the 3 steps into the bus. Hello!
Anyway, other than this obvious misstep, it was a fun read as usual.

It’s Christmas and the choir is together again. This time they’ll join thousands of other voices at Royal Albert Hall to sing Hayden’s beloved score. But there’s another piece of music that’s part of the mystery.

My library is dropping membership in Hoopla so this will be my last Cherringham mystery. These short mysteries are great for getting chores done. This one has Jack and Sarah singing Handel's Messiah while solving the theft of a valuable musical score.

Great Story

These books are so much fun. Relationships are growing and there is always a new and intrigueing mystery to solve.

So nice to get back to Cherringham with Jack and Sarah. I enjoy these light reading books and listening to Neil Dudgeon bring the characters to life is fantastic.

Lukijana Neil Dudgeon.
Varmaa taattua laatua. Pidän lukijan äänestä ja eläytymisestä. Tällä kertaa itse tarinakin oli hyvä.

This part was interesting and developed fast. Ending was acceptable.

Each book, I think they will get together. Then I worry it will ruin the series.

I enjoyed this one a lot. There was some good character development and the plot was well paced. Jack and Sarah, who are the main characters in all the books are well written.

Beginning of the story was interesting, but the ending was confusing.

A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a mystery.

I thoroughly enjoy this series and after every read I wait anxiously for the next book hoping they do not discontinue the series!
