Some monsters just need to be tamed.

Samantha

When the Dark Wolf God threatened my pack, I defied him. His retaliation was quick and brutal.

The ruthless god tore me from my life and imprisoned me in his kingdom. He’s convinced I have magic that will free him from a curse.

He’s as powerful as he is sexy—but he’s also wrong. I’m just a wolf shifter, right?

Cadean, the Dark Wolf God

I know the little wolf’s secret: she has the power to save me, or bring me to my knees. I need her help to protect my kingdom from the fae, but she thinks I’m a monster.

The truth is far worse: I’m a brutal beast that will defend my people, no matter the price.

Could the woman who wields the power to undo me be my mate? If so, I’ll destroy the world just to keep her safe.

Wolf God: Samantha & Cadean, Book 1 of 3
This is part 1 of a dual-POV, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance with a HEA in Book 3. Along the way, you can expect action, shifting alliances, and steamy romance set in a fantasy world.

***This is a standalone series. However, if you want to learn more about the events that gave rise to this story, you can sink your teeth into the completed Wolf Bound series.

“Once would be a shame. There is so much more we could do”.

“You’re going yo make my life very complicated, Samantha. I hope you’re worth it”.

description

“-Convice her you’re not a Monster”.
My stomack sank, and I set my jaw.+ “But I am”.
“- Then start by convincing yourself.

“Danger tends to remind people of what they have and what they could lose."

“You’re right, Little Wolf. I am the most dangerous beast that prowls this land. ”

Well....this was a pleasant surprise!

Storyline is what is great here. Not a lot happening in the romance department but there is a clear path to where this is going. Great secondary characters!

Samantha is such an intriguing character. I would strongly suggest reading Wolf Marked series first to get a very clear picture. There are references to this series and reasons why Samantha is fighting against Cadean. To fully enjoy this read I believe you need to start there.

Cadean a monster. Life beat his ass and now he is a living breathing nightmare, who needs someone to rein him in ... Sam. He is on a mission to save his people. In the process of doing so he has lost his humanity, for a lack of better words.

There are so many decisions that lead Sam to make the decisions she does in the end ..... can he win her back or will he simply have to take her???

Such a good start!

Happy reading,
DD Enjoy! 🥂

My Review

This is a new to me author and genre-wise this is a slow-burn fantasy romance it was an easy read and definitely had some imaginative ideas. It’s dual POV and Samantha our heroine is a wolf shifter who belongs to a pack that resides in the city it’s here she finds herself pitted against and also manages to wound the Dark Wolf god a powerful male who has been imprisoned behind a barrier in his own lands.

Their initial encounter nearly kills Samantha and in the chaos, she manages to hurt Cadean his injury then deteriorates which adversely affects his lands worsening the whole situation. There's a war that has been raging between himself and the Fae and with this new unexpected development, it’s now looking dire for all under his protection. When the Fae then involve Samantha all bets are off and she now finds herself captured and imprisoned by the wolf god.

Now whilst I enjoyed parts of this I also had some niggles mainly Samantha I couldn’t warm to her. She’s so black and white and judgemental and her inability to dig deeper and gauge someone’s character well let’s just say she was damn lousy at it. The way she constantly sits up high taking the moral high ground was naive at best and arrogant at worst. She sets herself up as judge jury and executioner passing sentence without thinking of the deeper shades of grey involved and the whys. She couldn’t even see through Cadean’s brother and detect he was playing her instead taking him at face value whilst then condemning the former with not so much as a fair hearing.

Everything Cadean does to protect her and his people she manages to find lacking she’s happy to allow him to save her but woe betide he kills anyone whilst doing it though it’s only him she seems to hold to this ridiculous regard. Frankly, she was irritating self-riotous and holier than thou.

Now Cadean I did like and I felt that Samantha didn’t deserve him he does what he must and makes the hard choices because he has to and then he’s also kind to a woman who makes no bones that she vehemently detests him. I didn’t think it would make much difference what he did Samantha would still find a reason to paint him as the villain.

This had an enemies-to-lovers vibe that is slow burn and despite my annoyance with Samantha I did mostly enjoy this it was well written and imaginative I just also wanted to strangle Samantha the majority of the time which wasn’t ideal. I will read the next book as I want to see Cadean catch a break I’m just also hoping Samantha has some personal growth and grows the hell-up Samantha is the main reason this got a three-star rating from me I voluntarily reviewed a copy of Wolf God.

One word: Tension. Oh my goodness it was coming off the pages, the tension between Cadean and Samantha starts from the very beginning and I was here for it. I will admit that is what hooked me from the start. This book was enjoyed.

Received arc from NetGalley. The story is ok, wasn’t bad wasn’t great either. The story itself gets a 3, the FMC is a 1 star. So I opted for something in the middle, 2 stars. I had a real problem with the FMC. The FMC is an idiot and it seems strange that she would blindly follow beings and their word and never really gets any facts. I understand her anger, I don’t understand how she can judge based on no facts or full information whatsoever. She never asks outright about why things were done. For example why the moon goddess bound the wolf god. A god of her kind, shifters. She’s quick to make bargains with a race notoriously known to be tricksters. She seems real stupid about it all too. And her “loremaster” should have warned her better. She gets mad about an assassin attempt who loses their head. You know what you dumb bitch they could have killed you. She’s fighting something she doesn’t understand and doesn’t have all the facts for.

However what I did really like, was the concept of the dreamlands, enemies to lovers, forced proximity (one horse or griffstrider in this case), ALL of the side characters, super hot god. I also really enjoy a mouthy FMC who can also back her shit up (even though I did find her annoying with her blind trust and judgement) And I very much want a griffstrider. As a horse girl this creature interests me greatly.

All in all it’s an average story that I probably won’t continue because I really do not like the FMC and her idiocy. She’s based her opinions on no facts and literally has no actual idea of what’s going on. Unfortunately this character ruined the whole thing for me.

DNF @ 50%

I received the audiobook from the authors, who hoped I’d be willing to do an ad.

As I tell everyone, I refuse to do book rec ads unless I’ve actually read the book and genuinely recommend it.

I really tried with this one but 🥴

Awful FMC

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't because of the FMC. The storyline was good, but the execution not so much. I had no problems with the MMC and I think he stayed true to the character he was supposed to be. The FMC was so frustrating being that she was so wishy- washy and hypocritical. For someone who had a kind of rough upbringing she was super naive and stupid. She continously stated she could only trust herself, yet she chooses to go along with another character who she said previously was untrustworthy. Wtf. There's a fine line when making characters stubborn and she crossed it by a mile. I'm hoping she gets some sense tortured into her or some type of punishment because it's what she deserves. Although I'll probably never find out because I won't be wasting my time reading the next book, especially when I don't think she's redeemable. (Usually that's a MMC thing but she went way over the top). This book could've been a 100 pages shorter, I should've stopped reading but I was hoping it was going to get better. I was wrong. If you can handle that type of character in a book you'll probably like the story, it wasn't for me.

This book with all its tension will have you screaming, "Just give in to each other already!!"

Wolf God is about the coming together of Cadean and Samantha--two polar opposites. Cadean is the Dark Wolf God who brings destruction to those not under his protection. He is locked away behind the Moon Goddess' confinements. Samantha, a wolf-shifter, found herself a victim to Cadean's fury when he temporarily escaped. When he captures her, she discovers she is more than she originally thought and struggles to come to terms with it. They push and pull with each other fighting their beliefs and desires.

This was a great first book for a series. The ending left you wanting more but didn't leave on such a cliffhanger that was torture. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book for NA readers who like fantasy, action, and the enemies-to-lovers trope. There is a tad of smut and a lot of palpable tension. The writing is easy to read and the plot was engaging throughout.

I received this title as an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Veronica Douglas for the opportunity to read this treasure!

You can find this review of Wolf God on my blog, Heart's Content!

Received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

The Wolf God was one of the books that I was really excited to dive into immediately because just the blurb reminded me of the Shadow Beast Series by Jaymin Eve and I had genuinely enjoyed that series so much and was really looking forward to hopefully enjoy this one too.

There are some similarities between the two series—given the nature of the storyline it would've been hard not to be—but the books read very differently and there's truly no comparison beyond the small ones I noticed. Wolf God follows its own rules in a world where world building has clearly already been established. Yes, Wolf God can be read as a standalone and that's what I did. However, when I started the book it did feel like I had walked into a movie theatre thirty minutes late and it took me a little bit to connect and understand the already established world. The author does recommend that the backstory and the characters would be better understood if the series is read in order. I would suggest that as well. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed Wolf God, I would've just enjoyed it more as part of a series.

There's no room to breathe while reading Wolf God. The book is all action, emotion and events, one after another, setting the pace to a maximum. The stage set-up is done immediately and the book jumps right into the thick of the story. The book reads with a dual POV giving us two sides of a story which greatly supports the enemies-to-lovers, opposite-sides-of-a-war tropes the book follows.

The plot of the story is quite complex and each chapter adds more threads that even when they reveal, have layers of concealed truths that I presume will unravel over the series. Which means that by the end of the book we know perhaps three things out of the several billion that remain a mystery.

The characters are few, but the roles they occupy in the plot more than make up for it. The FMC and the MMC are thrown together by their situations and the forced proximity between the characters causes them to see life through the eyes of the other. However, there is more understanding that happens within the MMC on this front than there is with the FMC. Now there are two things that can be perceived because of this: one, there was no concrete change that happens within the dynamic of the FMC and the MMC with relation to how they view one another for the most part (it's hard to explain this without spoiling); two, with life experiences from the past that teach you someone is a villain and your own experience that both reiterates it and disproves it, it's hard to make progress in trust or understanding. So by the end of the book we may even have gone from one step forward to seven steps back on some fronts. Adding this to the way the plot unveils itself, I'm truly curious to see how the author will take the series, after this seemingly big set-back.

I would rate the book four stars, but only because I would've loved to see some progress by the end but as that's a personal preference, other readers may enjoy it much better. But will I read the next book? Certainly. I mean, I have an ARC of it and like I said, I'm curious.

I really loved the Wolf Bound series but given that the Wolf God was not a great character in that, I was a bit sceptical about this spin off. However, I shouldn't have worried - I came to adore Cadean. In contrast, Samantha was incredibly annoying and I found myself regularly frustrated with her. The pacing was also a bit strange, and at times it was an effort to force myself to pick the book back up. Definitely not my favourite from the author!

I really enjoyed this, nope I was addicted, I loved everything the characters, the world building, I mean It’s such a great concept , I can understand a little people saying the FMC annoyed them., but she grew on me and I’m hoping that’s the point that she’s on a journey. I admit I would have liked more romance or angst, but I’m hoping it picks up more in the next, but I was thoroughly entertained

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

DNF.

Tried so hard to continue in hopes it would ignite my interest but every page was literally a struggle to get through. Heroine is unlikeable, story isn't moving fast enough, and I don't really care about the romance. I've also read this authors previous series and dnfed that too (although I didn't realize this until after starting this book), so I'm not completely shocked, but still disappointed. Maybe I'll try again in the future.

Quick Summary: OUTSTANDING!

My Review: Wolf God by Veronica Douglas was non-stop action and intrigue from beginning to end. This story had great elements. The plot had an air of fantasy, mythology, and dark realism mixed together. The main characters each had texture and depth. The emotional arc was brilliantly executed. I really loved being able to see the dual perspectives of the leads. They were so well written that I could not help but feel invested in each of them. I completely understood their unique struggles.

About the Characters:

Samantha and Cadean's story...WOW! (If I say anything right now, it would be too much. I'm still trying to recover from what happened. Much respect, Ms. Douglas. You wrote that and mic dropped, as far as I am concerned. Bravo!)

Wulfric, Mel, and Kass were a force. I loved their sense of loyalty and commitment to the Wolf God. They represented Cadean's inner circle. I want to better understand how they all came to be a band set to defend the Wolf God's kingdom.

Rune was a character that I hope to see again. There is definitely more to him than meets the eye. I can see him doing something even more remarkable later. (He made me think of Dobby, who was such a beloved character in the Potter series.)

Auren comes across like a villain. He is not trustworthy. He is written quite well. I can see things taking shape through his actions.

The Queen and the Fae were perplexing. So tricky. Their truth is a lie. Right?

Selene and her grandmother were supporting characters who helped to move the story along. Although they were lesser characters, they were instrumental in helping to better understand what was going on with the people who were being protected in Cadean's realm. Selene was interesting in that she allowed us to see the king's humanity. She was loyal to her king, but she also had a new sense of loyalty with her savior, Samantha, after being saved twice. (I'm thinking she'll show up again, for some reason.) The grandmother was sassy and wise. I enjoyed her defiant streak. (I think she knew more than what she was letting on during the celebration.) I do hope she makes an appearance in the other books, as well.

The Others: Even though this was story one, there were other characters who were mentioned. I am anxious to see how they will be used in the series. The wolves, Samantha's mother, Samantha's father, her best friend and her partner, the voices - what is the what with them?

My Final Say: I could not stop reading this book. It was utterly enthralling. There is really so much that I want to say about this book, but I don't want to ruin it for other readers. I'll simply sum things up by saying that this is a MUST READ. I'm going all in with this series. I must find out what comes next. Is there a fan club?!?! 🤓

This is perfect for those who enjoy books about the Fae because although yes the main characters are Wolves (with a touch more !) it's heavily influenced by the Fae. Essentially we have Samantha who somehow managed to infect the Wolf God and yes she sees him as a monster but the man he is inside sees a whole lot more in her !
I won't go into the plot but will say this whilst not a finished journey it's quite clearly a slow burn enemies to lovers story. I still think there's a lot the reader isn't told as I would have liked to know a lot more about why Cadaen was imprisoned because it's all a wee bit vague. However it's clear he has the loyalty of those within his realm that he protects so it's easy to root for him even when he's vicious. I liked the supporting characters but wish they had been fleshed out more and as this ends its clear Samantha has been tricked somehow but just what the reasons and implications are, well that's obviously being revealed in the next book Hunters Kiss.

I’ve come to really love this author duo, and I was excited to see this spin-off starring Samantha from their last series. This one is just as well-written and great as their other series, and I just absolutely adore Cadean and Sam together. I really must admit, though, that Sam sometime got on my nerves in this one. She can be a bit…well, wishy-washy. She’s strong, independent, and feisty, but she seems to be led around too much by things she should know better about (vague because no spoilers). Aside from that, I has such a great time with this book, and I can’t wait to see what come next…Sam, you should have known better. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This was a hard finish for me. The book itself was great, the heroine is not. She made me wanna throw my phone so many times. She is stubborn as all outdoors, and overly gullible. I mean she ignores everything anyone tells her about Cadean. I kept thinking she was gonna finally get it, but no. She stayed stubborn until the end. As the reader we’re privy to things Samatha doesn’t know, but at when it’s becomes almost blatantly obvious that she is misinformed she makes no point to change her point of view on things.

You know that saying “if someone shows you who they are believe them”… yeah this girl ain’t that 🤣 there could be literally a side written plainly in front of her face and she still wouldn’t believe it. I mean I get it—trust, but verify— but girl come on.

All in all. It was a pretty good book, well written and the overall world building was amazing, but for the sake of my phone I won’t be reading the next one.

This FMC is the single most heinous woman to have ever be written

Ok. I am so ferious with book I can hardly type. The only reason that I am going to read the next book is so that I can see the FMC pay. I want to see her humbled SO BADLY! Seriously! I want to see her crumble into a little ball crying and begging for forgiveness from Caden. I know that won’t happen because the author seems to think the self-righteous bi**h is a good character. I have NEVER wanted to throw my phone away over a character until this one. I actually hit my phone. I am only reading this book for Cadean. He is just epic. I also love the secondary characters. I hope we get to see more of them. I swear though, if that bi**h makes Cadean grovel…there is something wrong with authors nowadays.

Whoops! Sam is in dire straits and nobody knows where she is. And she’s being targeted by the one entity that everyone thinks has been defeated. Worse, she’s not even on the same plane as her friends and family anymore.

Cadean aka the Dark Wolf God is fuelled by rage and vengeance, lashing out at everyone who has caused pain to his realm. And Sam is at the top of his list. But he’s having a hard time convincing her to fix what she’s broken and and more is seems he needs her to fix what is broken within him as well.

This was such a thrilling read, I loved it! Reminds me a bit of a Court of Mist and Fury, but then set in a fantasy world with some Norse/Viking vibes.

- It’s a slow burn romance
- it’s action packed
- It has very engaging writing

I do wish there’d be a bit more in depth conversations with the minor characters, but overall I think this first book was a really great first in a new series.

Wasn’t familiar with this author’s work yet, but I can’t wait now to read more. Not only of this series, but what she’s written before this as well. For now, I’ll continue with this series; I bought the ebook of Hunter’s Kiss right after finishing this one haha!

Definitely recommend picking this one up if you’re looking for a new fun, fast paced fantasy/paranormal romance.

I really enjoyed this book and think it could be a compelling series. I felt like the enemies to lovers slow burn was both appropriately paced and also excruciatingly slow (it wasn't really slow I just have no chill). The tension here was pretty good and felt like a natural progression for the characters .

I'm not in love with the FMC because she makes questionable choices BUT if she grows out of that in the upcoming book I'll stick with it. There's a lot of unknowns in this book but also enough information was discovered to be intriguing. The side characters were really great too, Overall an interesting world.

Although the story felt familiar I still felt a connection to the characters and the story and can't wait for the next book.

4.5 for me

I got this book on stuff your kindle day not really knowing much about the author or the story but I fell in love with the front cover 😍

I have not been able to put this book down since starting it! I love everything, shapeshifter, magic, moon goddess, Fae, vampires! It has all of my favourite things and even though I feel like this will be an enemies to lovers tale in the end with fated mates, that's not happened in the first book like most stories do so I'm so pleased about that. I believe this is also on KU so if you have that then I highly recommend this book 📚

Alright.. okay… I loved it but as usual I’m more pumped about the next installment. I need to know how it’s going to end. I love Sam even if she had her moments in this book but she’s Sam… that said I went into this thinking there was no way I’d end up liking Cadean but on the contrary I actually really enjoyed his character arc so far in this story and as usual I found myself falling in love with several of the side characters such as Mel, Rune and Kass. Another great story and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

I tried… and i TRIED to get through this but the plot was too slow and the characters a bit boring for me. Samantha was ANNOYING and I was over her whining about being a prisoner when in all honesty she could have gotten over being a brat and actually worked WITH Cadean who didn’t once mistreat her or brutalize her as a true “evil” captor would have.
