Rate this book
Ezra Heart hadn't been completely sure how his relationship with Mason Whitaker would progress after making things official during their lakeside getaway, but an unexpected month-long separation and becoming the victim of a hit and run never even crossed his mind. Despite that, the drama of it all ends up working in their favor. Their cottage by the pond is a go and their honeymoon phase is turning into domestic bliss. Despite Ezra's reservations and their quick and non-traditional start as a couple living together, he is more head over heels for Mason than ever and Mason seems to feel the same way.

However, Fall is here. Mason is becoming more withdrawn. When his past comes back in full force, will he finally confide in someone or will he continue to stay silent and leave Ezra in the dark?

Fall Into Winter continues the story of Ezra and Mason, which started so wonderfully with Yours.

At the end of the first book, the guys were basking in relationship bliss during their lakeside getaway. This book starts with an unexpected phone call that causes Mason to rush back home to Pittsburg. During their month long separation, Ezra senses Mason drifting away and feels increasingly "stressed, tired, overworked, sad, and pissed off at the world”. When Mason eventually returns to Hanover with a major surprise for Ezra, he is greeted by the news that Ezra is recovering in hospital following a hit-and-run.

A lot happens in this book, from meeting the parents to harrowing revelations. There are some hilarious scenes (Ezra's performance as Astaroth being a particular highlight for me) and lots of romantic moments. Ezra's acting career is heading in the right direction with a new agent and his film selected for contention at the Venice Film Festival, and Mason submits one of his stories for The New Yorker's short story contest.

In the first book, we had some idea about what happened to Mason when he was fifteen years old. In this book, Mason fully opens up to Ezra about his traumatic experience. Like Ezra, I was prepared for "something bad" but it was much worse than I imagined.

As the book ends in December 2014, there are still some unanswered questions but there is a satisfying end as the bond between Ezra and Mason remains stronger than ever. Although the tone of this book is darker than the first one, it forms an important chapter in their journey as a couple and personal well-being. The writing has a good, consistent flow and the supporting characters add additional depth to the story.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, which is anticipated for release in early 2023, particularly the guys' upcoming trip to Europe. I would also love to read more about Salem and Ronan, and the prophesied love story between Moira and her cinematographer, which are hopefully in the offing.

This is not a stand-alone book so it is best to read Yours first.

I really enjoyed Yours a lot but I LOVED Fall into Winter. Whereas I found Yours at times to be repetitive and that it could have been cut down by at least a hundred pages, I wanted Fall Into Winter to never end. When I reached the last one hundred pages I kept pausing because I was trying to delay the inevitable. I need to know what happens next to Mason and Ezra, I want to hear about their time in Europe, and I want to see Mason seek treatment for his depression. I need to know more about what is happening with Nolan, and the true reason for his and Madison's divorce. I suspect also that Salem might have more in common with Mason, and perhaps also suffers from depression resulting from severe trauma. I have no clue what I am going to do with myself while I wait for the next promised book to come out.

Enjoyed this book and book 1 however I didn't realize there was supposed to be a book 3 so I went into this expecting to have most if not all of the plot lines wrapped up, especially the ones involving Mason's trauma, only for the two biggest questions to remain unanswered. So when the book ended kind of abruptly, I was like wait.....book 3 is nowhere to be found! I mean....I hope it still comes out at some point but it was projected to come out Spring 2023 and it is now summer 2024 so....not sure if that resolution is coming. I would be pleasantly surprised if it does. I definitely do want confirmation about what Mason's dad does and does not know though I agree with Ezra when it comes to that, and I want to see a resolution when it comes to the horrible people who hurt Mason.

That being said I enjoyed getting to know these characters and I really enjoyed their relationship. I'm satisfied with what we've got, even without a book 3 but if it does come out, I'll be sure to pick it up.

For now, I'm satisfied knowing at least the psychic in book 1 basically told us how their relationship will end up in the future so I wasn't left gasping and begging and pleading to know how their life ends up. It's a HEA all around.
