The Villainess's Survival Guide

Rate this book
Once Upon a time there was a Villainess.... said no one ever.
What kind of messed up story did I end up in? Oh right, mine.
But this is so not the happily ever after I dreamed of.
I’m trapped in the body of the wicked Villainess.
The heroes I adored want me dead. The villains won’t leave me alone.
And to make matters worse, I’m stuck in a contract with THE demon.
Someone, please, get me out of here!

Actually… nix that.

I should stay. After all, it is my story. Who better to change it?

This author has a new fan

(Oof just seeing a few reviews saying the full book wasn’t available when they read, but I just want to say it apparently is now because what I read was a full length novella and I highly recommend it)

Trying to dry my eyes while writing this because OMFG the ending of this book had me bawling my dang eyes out.

What’s crazy is I almost dropped this book a few pages in. For me it just seemed like the pacing was a little bit off, and the writing itself a little too whimsical and elementary for me to really immerse myself in it. However, holy Shit balls (I take it ALL back), I’m so so glad that I kept on reading because it’s like after a few pages the pacing got itself together and the author found her footing and pranced around these pages like a professional ballerina, because I was HOOKED.

ON the characters! On the story! ON EVERYTHING: I. WAS. HOOKED. For one I’m in love with Nox ( I haven’t felt that way about an MMC in a long time) I’m in love with the fmc, I’m fond of Aidan. I’m still on the fence with the other men but I’m warming up to Silver.

Just when you think this is one of those comedic type of RH, and if you are familiar with transmigration villainess mangas and novels, some are dark and some are hilarious. I didn’t expect this to be BOTH. Holy crap I wasn’t prepared, one moment I’m laughing and swooning over Nox’s cute and innocent antics the next I’m crying (sobbing hard) over a character and the stuff the poor fmc had to go through.

The thing about the fmc being trapped inside her villain character, a character SHE in fact created as she is the original author of the story. You start to realize that some of the inspiration for her novel must have come from the things she experienced in her life, and I found that to be as incredibly interesting as I did heart breaking. Roena (because I don’t know the authors og name) has gone through a lot in life. For instant the mother that we have yet to meet in this novel clearly abused the (og villainess) in her life, but later it becomes clear that the fmc (the author) herself was also abused by her mother and now that the fmc is trapped in her novel, she’s going through it all again.

In conclusion this story is amazing and addicting but be prepared and get yourself some tissue because you are going to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster.

Below I’ll list some of things that felt safe for me (as I am triggered by a lot of things) as well as stuff that I felt was semi triggering for me but could absolutely be even more so for others. I will give the author credit because while she doesn’t go into details for the trigger warnings she does warn readers of them in the beginning so make sure to heed her warnings.

Safe
No ow
No dead lovers or spouses
Single parents
No V1rgin fmc trope

Trigger warnings: (that the author does briefly mention)
I believe it was implied that one of the MMC’s was SA’d by the OG villainess’s mom. I could be misunderstanding something but that is my stance at the moment.

I also get the feeling that the OG villainess and the stepbrother were forced to do things with one another but I’m still not sure. Either way it was a little hard for me to stomach hearing. There is no vivid detail just some implications that something happened
Implied abuse on the fmc (author and the og villainess) as well as one of the mmc
Death of a sibling
Death of a character (none of the harem or the fmc)

A great opening book for a series that has a lot of potential. This is book one of a of a series where the MC is thrown into her own story, but into the body of the villainess. The premise is fun, interesting, and does a good job of moving the plot forward. The author does an excellent job of creating a vast new world with many unique fantasy elements, and tons of different types of people that lend to great characters.

The MC is fun and likeable, she has a great perspective and sense of humor about the situation she is in, and seems determined to control her own fate, despite the many troubles she runs into along the way. Nox was a personal favorite of mine. The demon "butler" who is contracted to the villainess in the main story. Nox and the MC have great chemistry together, and it's hard not smile when he is in a scene.

I have read this author's work, and this is defiantly one of their biggest stories in terms of scale. The book is a pretty good length but this is still just part one in a bigger series. This book gives us a great introduction of the world and characters, and sets up for a great story with tons of potential. I can't wait to read the rest and I hope that the author really continues to flush out the details of this world. I would highly recommend picking up a copy.

The story promised to be interesting based on the blurb. However the book stops abruptly out of nowhere... It was highly disappointing honestly which is why I gave it two stars.

I thought about giving it only 1 star but I somewhat enjoyed the few pages of story.

The author should have specified somewhere that it was a VERY SHORT STORY. Emphasis on VERY SHORT.

Other short stories at least have a start and end to the story. This one doesn't even have an end... Am I pissed? Kind of yeah...

Hm… I’m feeling SO conflictingly confused about this book? Like, it’s literally a Manhwa of Historical Romance with Reincarnation, right? But… it’s so fast paced and super fast burning like… the development? Where is it? Am I supposed to know those characters, or the magic system, or the universe elements? I know SHIT! I was so lost lol. It was wrote like a fucking fanfic or a hentai anime, bruh. BUT, here comes the conflictingly confusing part: I liked!? It was SO fun, and entertainingly dumb!? Really, I binged read this shit during the whole fucking day, gurl! Wtf is wrong with me??? It’s like… everything I wanted to read but no one ever wrote before, just this author in this book? Huff… I’m feeling hella good, like when I finished “Who Made Me A Princess?” and “My Life As A Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom!” type of good. Definitely my most new ✨Guilty Pleasure✨. This series has potential, big one. Looking forward to the next book. Hopefully as entertaining and fun as the first one.
Btw, is Xan gay? Well, I mean… Bisexual? His relationship with Silver is so SUS, bruh, got me all 👀 lmao.
Chapter 27 was my favorite one, aham aham. I just LOVE how the properly written sexual tension can make foreplay so much more exciting than sex itself, it’s so fucking interesting, amusing and sexy. Love it.
Oh, and the Roena and Tallis’ scene on Chapter 20? Gurl, wtf? The sexual tension was so sexy but then… dropping such a big bomb so suddenly lol. I got 🤡 what-
Nox is SO perfect. He’s so cute, adorable, needy, clingy, puppy like, a sadistic submissive, morally corrupted psychopath!? This man has charisma and gets satisfied by pleasing his woman during the ménage. That’s everything for me. He’s a 10/10. Love his dark humor and innocent/naive attitude. It’s the perfect balance. He’s simple perfect and I love him. That’s all. I’m a simper. A bad one. And I’m not sorry.
Ah, last thing: Ro, don’t fucking blame your horny body, blame the hot men. Blame them! Lololol.

What can I say other than? It was amazing and well worth the read. At first, the author is talking about characters in her story she's been working so hard on when suddenly she's thrown into her own story itself. And the villiness no less which everybody hate's and you know what always happens to the bad guy. So she sets out to change every bad thing she's written in order to stay alive. Which isn't easy, and things start to get interesting. With Nox, a demon who she slightly has the hots for and is super sweet when he doesn't want to cause trouble, and i have to say he's my favourite so far. It's an easy read. With great characters, you'll just love. Like silver, who gets caught on a completely different journey he never saw coming while still being his slightly moody self. I loved how you felt like you were in this strange world with monsters and full of magic that I just love. And that cliffhanger at the end that I'm slightly concerned about as I really need to know what happened next.

This was an entertaining first installment, and it was a fab introduction to the characters and the world it takes place in. I loved the twist of having a character thrown into their own story but inside the villainess' body. Wild! Author Daisy, is shocked when she finds out she's not herself and immediately starts trying to shift things to make them more like she is IRL and not Roena, her character in a book she wrote. This has some hilarious outcomes as no one expects her to act as she does...aka not as a villain ;) She's going to end up in an RH romance and this is a slow burn romance. There is a high stakes feel to this story and I'm quite anxious for the next installment to see how things continue to unfold for Roena, Silver, Tallis, Kian, Nox, and Enzo - and if she'll actually survive her own story! Good fun!

"I'm dreaming. Having a nightmare. Why am I the villainess? And not even the main villain. I'm the one who gets killed off early. Oh my god! I'm going to die!"

The story opens where an author is writing her book and then realises that she has been transported into the book as the villainess of the piece! Unfortunately this particular villainess gets killed off and Roena is determined not to let that happen. But with characters she doesnt recognise turning up, things happening out of sequence and events happening she can't even remember will she be able to escape her fate?
I never read anything like this before. It is unique and unusual with a mix of plotlines going on. At the end there is a cliffhanger, but a good cliffhanger is what draws a reader in to read the next book. It worked, I will be reading the next one when it comes out!

2.5 ⭐️

I’m a sucker for isekai romance novels and manga/manhwas. Include the villainess trope into that? My dork is fully exposed to the world.

Am i ashamed of this? Yeah, kinda lmfao.

Will I ever stop indulging myself on this guilty pleasure? NOPE.

And when it comes to this particular story, I wasn’t expecting much because it’s obvious from the first page there is a complete lack of editing and everything is going to be trope based. But honestly, if you look beyond that the story isn’t horrible. It’s fairly easy to read and it does actually have a plot with action scenes.

Would I have picked this up if I had known it was a part of a series and it ended on a cliffhanger with no news of a second book? Unfortunately, not.

Also, fair warning this series is looking to have the making of a reverse harem. If that’s not your thing I’d stay clear.

This is a fun novel, with a unique approach. Roena is an author who gets trapped in her own story. Not as the heroine, oh no, that would too easy. No, she's trapped as the villains, and none of the other characters are behaving quite as they should!

I love the confusion, both from Roena who realises the story isn't quite where is should be, but also from everyone else as they realise Reena isn't acting as they expect! It's also interesting to see Roena realise the inspiration behind some of her writing.

It's very slow burn, although 'I'm fairly certain who'll end up in the harem- eventually - it's fun seeing it all build up. Of course, it's book one, you know there's going to be a cliff hanger, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

This is not your typical read of a person being reborn into a world they know about. The author is reborn and instead of focusing on herself, she’s more concern for the other characters. Clearly this contradicts the title of the book. A lot of people hate her, yet the main characters (being guys) lust for her. And she’s like them too. I don’t know how I feel about her hormones and clearly how she’s stubborn. If she wants to survive, she should clearly start ensuring that she takes better care of herself (what happened to self-preservation?). Overall, I enjoy the demon character. Six and Four are sweet but chaotic characters. I love their playful personalities. This book was all right to read.

What a freaking awesome idea!

This is my first time reading this author. At first it was the title that caught my attention. Then the blurb sounded even more intriguing. The actual story was really entertaining and surprisingly deeper plot than I was expecting. Our fmc (Roena) appears to be a Fantasy author who suddenly finds herself trapped in one of her own books, in the body of a villainess no less. There are a LOT of guys in this story, some heroes, some villains. It's too early to say who Roena will ultimately have a relationship with but the story, the magical world and elements, are equally enthralling. I'm eagerly looking forward to book two!

Trapped in the story you are writing - as the villainess no less! Og, dear!
Even knowing the story does not help her much. She still gets trapped by a deal with Nox, gets Daisy kidnaped and must learn to go by the name Roena.
Piece of cake, right?
I can't wait to read the next book and see what kind of problems Roena gets Silver, Tallis, Kian, Nox, and Enzo into. How will she survive her own plot and either find a way out of her own story or solve the problems so she can live safely in the fantasy world she created?

I have never seen an author do this. This is a fraction of a book.

This contains the short story by the same name that was previously published in the Fearless anthology. The two stars is because it had a lot of promise. I preordered the book based on the short story.

Then what came to me was the same short story with a promise from the author that in March an actual book would be published. It’s the end of March and nothing.

Interesting!

So this is an older version, and the updated version is way longer.

This is an interesting take on a story where the author becomes the character in her book. It is pretty funny and cute. I mean, don't we all kind of envision ourselves after a certain character while reading the book? I do, but this is definitely a good read! I would definitely wait for the updated, longer version though.

Exactly what I didn't know I needed

It started off a little slow but once it picked up, it takes you on a ride. I found this book from my FB readers group and I'm so happy I took a chance on it. I hadn't really know much about the trope where some one is sucked into the life of a villain and was intrigued. This book was great and I loved (most) of the characters, especially Nox. The cliffy was brutal and I am on tenterhooks until the 2nd book releases.

Wow, I could not put this book down once I started reading it. It moves along at a pace that is perfect for this story and made for an easy and enjoyable read. It has characters that you want to know and no matter what happens you cant help but love them. This is a must read book that has to be read, you will not be sorry that you did.

not what I was expecting

The story was adequate for the transmigration story
The characters were developing
The $2.99 was a rip off. There are less then 8 chapters, very short chapters. That in itself should have been $0.99
Will I read book 2? Yes.
Will I pay the same price for next to no content? No.

Really good!!!

I was enthralled from the first page!! I just loved the new and improved Roena!😂 The storyline is so unique and the writing is great! If I had any complaints it’s that I would have liked a little more info before she wakes up in the book and i finished this first book way too fast!

I think I have a new favorite trope! Innocent MC turned accidental villainess because of body swapping. Another book with this trope was The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley, and I thoroughly enjoyed that one as well. With this being RH? Yay! I didn’t realize this was a novella, so it’s a tad short for me, but still a good read! I look forward to reading more!

Fantastic

Loved the different angle the author took with this. It is a favorite trope of mine but feels like it is made for a more mature audience. Can't wait for the second one. Going to try to find something like it, but have sincere doubts that I will find a satisfactory placeholder. Amazing book Whimsy!

such a quick and enjoyable read

Y'all I ate this book UP. The author has such a good grasp of romantic fantasy tropes and this absolutely reads like a webtoon. Vivid, hilarious, and just horny enough to make me shriek. I cannot wait for the next book in the series because it sure did end on a killer cliffhanger!!

Ahhhhhh, I can't believe it's over! No, it can't be over. I need more! 😭🥺 When is the next book coming out?

If it's not clear from my reaction, that was so freaking good. This author is so underrated and deserves more recognition. I loved the idea of this book. Characters are chef's kiss 😘 It's so thrilling. I can't even guess what's going to happen next.

Cute book with the FMC finding herself in her own book but as the villainess instead of the heroine. It had some funny parts and lots of action. It is only part one of a set so there’s more to come. I will definitely be back for book two. Highly recommend.

It had the villainess isekai/reincarnation vibe from the animes I was looking for, but a bit more mature in tone. But it was headed in a #whychoose #reverseharem direction and that’s a hard nope for me. I hate that trope so I won’t reading anymore.
