P.S. I Loathe You

Rate this book
Wes

The worst thing my sister ever did was agree to marry Devon Montgomery.

The best thing she ever did was cancel the wedding two weeks out from the big day.

It’s not that I don’t like Devon. It’s that I hate him. I detest him. I loathe him.

And, for some reason, the feeling is mutual, although why anyone would hate someone as amazing as me is completely beyond my understanding.

Devon, on the other hand? He’s an overbearing, uptight, pretentious snob who wouldn’t know a good time if it bit him on the arse.

I mean, yes, he’s insanely attractive. And, yes, he’s been known to star in some particularly dirty fantasies of mine—ones of the hate-sex variety.

But that’s all it is.

Well, that’s all it was supposed to be…

Until I discover Devon has been having the exact same fantasies about me. Turns out he’s not so averse to fun after all…

P.S. I Loathe You is a stand-alone enemies to more, sister’s ex, online ‘bromance’, opposites attract romantic comedy with two swoon-worthy leads, quirky side characters, a ton of sexytimes, and a guaranteed HEA.

This is my second try with this author and I don’t think we’re a good match. I don’t enjoy this style of humor and banter at all and the whole book is about that and centered around it. They each call each other a prick or whatever, the other one is like haha you love it though :), humor humor banter banter, pop culture reference, family or friend situation, rinse, repeat for 200 something pages. Also the sex scenes were such a letdown. I thought that could be the one thing I enjoyed about the book but nope! They’re so fast and rushed (which is something I could say about the book itself as well). Very much blink and you miss it sex scenes. Last time I said I wouldn’t try another book by this author but she reeled me in with having a tattooed and pierced MC!!!! My weakness😩😩😩 Not sure how old Devon is but my eyes did that whole cartoony boing thing upon learning that WES IS 38?!?! PARDON??? They certainly don’t sound like people in their 30s and although we get two different first person POVs they sound the exact same most of the time. In the beginning there was a slight difference in tone but as time went on they just morphed into sameness.

✦ the way this type of "witty" and "humorous" banter rarely ever works for me in books... literally read it all with a completely straight face.
✦ also, why do so many authors these days insist on making their 40 year old mcs act like teenagers? i hate it here. moving on

I can’t seem to remember who put this book under my radar. I can’t thank you enough. I had such q blast reading this book. It has my all-favorite tropes

MM ✔️

Enemies to lovers✔️

Sister’s Ex.✔️

With

Witty banter ✔️

Angst✔️

Steam ✔️

One trope I can't get enough of and feel there need to be more books is Sister’s ex. It's always angsty and forbidden.

Wes is Devon’s ex-fiancee's brother. Both with a common ground of hating each other and are total opposites of each other.

Wes comes from money, but you would never know it. Tattoo artist, down to earth. But all around, a comical guy that is secretly attracted to Devon. Devon is very serious about life and work. Also secretly attracted to Wes.

These two drive each other mad. But we always know there is a fine line between love and hate. The angst, banter, and chemistry between the two is a scorcher. So many times, I couldn't help but laugh at Wes’s comebacks. Devon’s character growth alone is five stars. Who knew he could relax? 🤷‍♀️

“You alright there, Devon?” Wes asks, his deep, husky voice grating on me. “You’re looking particularly murdery tonight.”

At times, I was waiting for them to tear each other clothes off or set each other on fire. Once together, they're explosive.

”Jesus, listen to you,” he taunts, dragging his teeth along my jaw. “You’re such a slut for it, aren’t you? I haven’t even put my cock in you yet.”

Overall, it was an incredible journey that I didn't want to end.

4.5 ⭐️ I love hidden identity stories and the emails and text convos in this were supreme. Adding in ex-fiancée’s brother, opposites attract (tattoo artist/corporate exec), secret revelations, and enemies to lovers and you have a winner. Omg, was it satisfying watching these two begrudgingly fall in love with each other. 🤭

That was really fun to read. And sweet. And kinda ridiculous. But I really liked it.

Quick summary: We have tattoo-artist Weston who’s sister Emma is about to marry Devon, who he absolutely hates for being so uptight and no fun. When Emma ends the engagement both men end up as email pen-pals by some coincidences without knowing who the other one is. When they finally get it and also discovering in their exchange that they had the hots for each other all along, it’s getting preeeety hot real quick.

Sometimes I couldn’t quite believe that Dev and Wes are both in their mid-thirties they behaved so ridiculous. But boys will be boys I guess.

[bit of filthy texting going on]

Wes Holt: I’m some of us. I’m working right now
Me: How are you texting if you’re working?
Wes Holt: Text to Voice
Me: Wait…you’re playing this conversation out loud? In front of a client?
Wes Holt: Yep. His name is Tony. He says hi.

Hahaha I would’ve pissed myself if my tattoo artist would’ve had such a texting going on out loud WHILE working on my piece. It would’ve been great entertainment, I’m sure. So I envy Tony quite a bit rn, tbh. *lmao

I have actually no idea how they ended up loving each other. It really seemed kind of impossible. Okay there might be a lot of denial involved but seriously… It didn’t happen all of sudden. More like the feelings were sneaking up on them. I think we were all surprised it happened at all.

“You missed me.”
I scoff. “I absolutely did not. I missed England. And sleeping in my own bed.”
He quirks an eyebrow at me. “So, the first thing you did was come to
my bed?”

In the end, we have a lot of funny banter, a lot of steam, two lovable characters in denial and all in all a very nice, lighthearted romance here I can totally recommend reading. And omg were they cute af by the end. *swoon

***********
This book has some flaws in the story-telling regard imo so that’s why it’s only a four-star read for me. But I freaking loved it anyway.

"Okay, fine. But if I'm really bad at it you're not allowed to make fun of me." He holds his hands up. "Trust me, you won't even know. I've had plenty of opportunities to practice my fake groans of pleasure over the past couple of months."

Isla Olsen you’ve done it again! P.S. I Loathe You was the MM enemies to lovers book I totally needed to read today😍.

If you're like me and love all these tropes, you will adore this book:

❣️MM romance
❣️Enemies to lovers
❣️Sister’s ex-fiancé
❣️Oppposite attract
❣️Online bromance/unknown identities
❣️All the steam
❣️Snarky banter
❣️Low angst
❣️HEA

The banter is hilarious, the chemistry is hot and steamy, the writing is divine and we get a HEA.

LOVED IT!

Highly enjoyable enemies-to-lovers romance with a healthy dose of very British humour

It’s the story of Wes, a tattoo artist, and Devon, his sister’s very posh (ex)fiancé. Yes, there’s not a lot of plot, but I didn’t mind because the banter and the chemistry between Wes and Devon was SO GOOD. And yes, it’s a bit OTT- because what’s the chance to start writing anonymous emails to the guy you’ve been secretly fantasising about?

Short summary: Emma, Wes’ sister, breaks up with Devon 2 weeks before the wedding. There’s not much drama there, just the realisation that they’re not friends than lovers. Soon after, Wes and Devon end up emailing without knowing who they’re talking to. Eventually they find out ofc, and after that, they’re all over each other 24/7.

The banter between these two had me laugh out loudly more than once. There’s not much drama going on, but the dialogues and the situations they keep getting into are so funny, you’ll end up smiling most of the time while reading it.

4 grinning stars - and the promise to check out more books by this author.

Aww this was so cute! I love Devon and Wes!! They're both such distinct characters, and their chemistry is off the charts. Their banter both through email and text, and in person was perfect. The animosity to physical chemistry....so well done.

They were also the best precious dingdongs in denial about feelings, without it being annoying. Just cute. Highly recommend for a lovely fluffy read!

They were such dingdongs...

Ever read a book where the mcs were so dingdongy that you feared that they may not get together? This was that sort of book for me and I really enjoyed it.

So in here we have Wes, who is a tattooed and pierced tattoo artist and Devon, a straight laced guy who was engaged to Wes' sister. Don't worry, there is no cheating and sis is fine with all this. There really is no angst in here, which was awesome, and I loved the emails and texts between them. They were really funny. They called each other boyfrenemies and I awwed over it.

I just want to point out that this story was so British that I was dying. Especially all the football talk. It truly was real.

This might be the most fun I’ve ever had reading a book. I finished it earlier this month, and I’ve already re-read/re-listened to it so many times that I’ve lost count. It’s definitely a new all-time favorite.

This is technically an "enemies to lovers" story, I say technically because it's an "enemies to lovers" but with a winky face emoji 😜. Wes and Devon can’t stand each other, but really, they just want to undress one another 😂. Their banter is off the charts, and the chemistry between them is one of the best I’ve come across. Plus, they’re written so well that you really feel like you know them.

I can't remember the last time I laughed this much while reading a book. I laughed so much that my cheeks were hurting by the time I was done. I'm literally smiling as I’m writing this review. I love this so much.

I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AUDIOBOOK. Gary Furlong's narration is chef's kiss. He took this already masterpiece of a book to a whole new level.

Changing my rating to 4.25⭐.

This is definitely one of my favourite enemies-to-lovers book, but the main characters aren't really enemies, they're hilarious enemies and I was here for the banter alone.

"Truthfully, sometimes I wonder whether what I think I’m feeling is even real. I’ve never felt this way about a man before. If I’m being honest, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this way about anyone before. And this is Wes Holt. The most infuriating, exasperating, migraine- inducing person on the planet; how does it make sense that he’s the one I’m falling for?"

🔵 Enemies to frenemies to boyfrienemies
🟢 Gay/bisexual (but they don't know that about each other)
🟡 Both around 40 years old
🟣 Mails, texts
🟢 Ex fiancee's older brother/ex future brother in law
🌶️ Smut is really good, but half off-page; rimming, oral, penetrative, dildo, prepping; t/b --> both vers

On this re-read there's a thing I was missing and that was more of their intimate moments together after that first time having sex when they realised who it is they're both talking to online. After that we just kind of fall into regular hook-ups that were off-page, so I really missed those first moments, I think more of them should be mentioned.

The other thing is Wes' bestie that had that column - she had a substantial role in the book and took time away from the main characters, I'd rather read more about them, because their banter was truly good, they were so funny and sexy together, they were the perfect match. I wanted more of that. That should be the main thing in this story.

Other than that, the story is still one of my favourites and I'm definitely recommending it.

God, this book! This took me completely by surprise.

The story has just the right amount of good banter, sexual tension and two amazing main characters that really pulled me in. I read this book in a heartbeat, it's a light, sexy romance with a touch of forbidden.

It's happening in the UK, so expect British English, which I normally don't really like in modern romance books (only in historical romances), but it really worked for me here.

Wes and Devon are enemies - they dislike each other since they've met. Wes is from a wealthy family, but he's an outsider - he does get along with his parents and his sister, whos'a about to marry Devon, he has his own tattoo shop, he's covered in tattoos and piercings and he's blunt, honest and funny. He's almost 40 years old, but he's a sexy bachelor that lives his life on his terms.

Devon is about to marry his sister, he's a stuck up rich guy, always impeccably dressed with a nice, posh office job, is a bit of a snob, always working and always has a sarcastic remark for Wes.
When Wes' sister decides to break up the engagement and not get married to Devon, Wes is extatic for if nothing else, he won't have to put up with Devon anymore.

Wes and Devon start talking to each other by email when Devon finds the column his ex-fiancee used to ask for advice about her potential marriage to him and coincidentally gets Wes' reply. They start talking until they both eventually figure out who the other is.

Forget about the hot, awesome sex that follows with all those muscles, piercing and tattoos, it's the things they shared for the first time, the intimacy, all the feels, even though they were supposedly enemies and couldn't stand each other.

The banter was really good, it was energetic and funny, the progression to a serious love relationship was believable and what else can I say other than I completely adore Wes and Devon.

Oh gosh, what a delicious feeling-good story. I adored every page!
Wes and Devon despise each other, hate each other wholeheartedly and don’t shy away to let the other know in a strong language.

Only, they are strong and physically attracted to the other.
With an absolutely delightful detour, they find out the other is attracted. To get it over with once and for all, they bang each other, hard, regularly, or better to say every night.

Fun, so much fun, the banter is so great to watch, the sexiness is delicious, and when they discover their real feelings, awesome! Wonderfully strong written, angst-free, delightful sexy story!

I enjoyed this one immensely and loved everything about it!

It was a perfectly fine book. For other people. I did really enjoy the scene in the pottery studio - wish the whole book had had that quality and vibe. Otherwise, not a lot happened, the banter was repetitive, and the tension points near the end were so predictable it was almost embarrassing. Docked one star for the lazy fat joke.

Yeah I’m done with this. This book came very recommended by the M/M group, so I tried to stick with it. IMO this writing is not even remotely enjoyable. Sorry for the rant ahead.

I’ll start by saying that PS I Loathe You reads like a parody, it’s so over the top with British slang. The word “arsehole” is used 35 times, apparently? It feels like 300. Every couple pages some character is typing out in all caps “YOU ARE SUCH AN ARSEHOLE!!!” I got so tired of the way they spoke to each other. And the emojis… the constant emojis… Cringing just remembering it.

Good spice? No. Nope. Sorry. After 150 pages of long sighs and longing, these characters first scene together is… rushed, emotionless, lukewarm at best. And then, their second time together IS A BOOTS SCENE. I’m sorry, this made me so mad. One lukewarm event and the author is like… yeah yeah you get the idea. The next mention we get of their relationship progressing is this text:

“you know since we’ve been shagging every night this week with no plans to stop anytime soon.”

Sorry but WTF. I was really disappointed that a book, front-loaded with so much yearning and build-up, ended up doing this weird turn.

Finally, this book has no story. The banter sucks. “The porn is the plot” and there‘s none of that either. So, no thank you.

Ragey Jamie rant ahead:

This book had a cute story and plot - but…
Did no one think to tell the author that emojis don’t work on kindles?!?! There were so many emojis used in this book and I couldn’t see them on my kindle! I would have to get my phone, open the app, scroll to the same page just to see which emoji was used! I ignored them at first but some had no context so I would need to look it up and some changed the context of what was being said. I got ragey several times during this book due to having to go on an investigative spree to see which emoji the author used. Why did she need so many emojis? It took me out of the story. I could barely enjoy the book through all my frustration.

I can’t even begin to review the book, plot, or characters at this time - too busy being mad about the emojis. ✌🏻

Wes y Devon ❤️

Wes me hizo reír mucho, y tenía las mismas reacciones que Devon, cuando Wes salía con sus ocurrencias en público. 🤣

Si quieren una lectura sencilla y sin demasiado drama, éste es el indicado.

“Wes, think about it. If I’m right about this, it means Devon Montgomery has been having some pretty wild fantasies…about you.”

For the most part I enjoyed this. Stars deducted for:

- The lack of safe sex and Wes commenting that he rarely wears condoms. Considering how sexually active he was, I found this very very very icky.
- Totally unrealistic they didn't realise who the other was in their emails.
- Lack of giving a shit about Emma's feelings. Not sure why bother with the sisters ex trope - there was no angst.

A man starts texting his sister’s ex-fiancé, who he hates, without either realizing who they’re really talking to. This was a cute, fluffy story of two absolute dingdongs. It’s pretty light on details and feelings, but the premise is well-executed and I enjoyed the humorous tone. Recommended if you want an easy, fun read.

This is my second time reading this book and I loved it just as much as the first time! This is definitely my favourite book by this author and is a complete standalone. I love a good enemies-to-lovers, surprise-email-buddies romance. Think those two things together is one of my absolute favourite trope/plots.

I loved the dynamic between Wes and Devon and that they didn’t lose their banter and they didn’t become all lovey dovey and change who they were. They really fit so well together and this story was the perfect example of being in a relationship with the wrong person compared to the right person!

Whether or not you’re read this author before I highly recommend this story. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job! I know I’ll be reading this book again at some point!
