I have several clinician friends talking a lot about social media and phone addiction, so I got this audiobook to dive deeper. Is this the next great public health awareness like smoking was?

The book outlines how social media companies are bad actors, how these apps can cause adverse mental health effects, and most importantly, how to overcome them. Narrated by the author, I liked her performance and her use of humor. It made it fun to listen to. I recommend it.

I got an unexpected benefit from reading this book. While I was a 3-4 time per week social media consumer, now that I understand how these apps and companies work, I haven't posted anything since I listened to it. Are not most people on FB and the Gram just flexing? Isn't that the point? Let's get on the phone, or even better, get together. This book demonstrates that relationships are healthier and longer lasting than self-promotion.

I wish every parent would read this book. Delete me is one of those books that I can't say I enjoyed, but I'm very glad I read it. In some ways, this is a bleak, challenging book. There are definitely no easy answers--just a whole bunch of really difficult ones when it comes to social media. But it's a terribly important book. Because it gives a framework to end the problem of addiction, which is a vital first step. Addressing social media platforms as a toxic substance is an imperative focus of this book (and a bold one). We'll need to work collectively to solve this problem of addiction and I don't know if we will in this lifetime. We're *capable* of it, that's certain. But I don't know if people will make that choice to go offline. I am. And my family is "unfollowing" in suit.
