A New York Times reporter has landed on the wrong side of the Venezuela President, and now Venezuela's National Intelligence Service has sent sixteen of their best to execute him.
The USA wants to use this opportunity to get the Venezuela President on the discussion table, but first, they need to save the reporter discreetly.
There is only one man who could do this in a twenty-four-hour window. SAM WICK.
He is the one the USA Government calls on to extract people out of the worst of the worst enemy places on earth. Where the government cannot and will not go, he will. There is no guarantee that he'll succeed every time, but he doesn't have a choice, or does he?
Time is running out. Bullets are flying. Bodies are piling up. Nothing is as it seems. Will SAM WICK succeed?
If you like Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan , Ted Bell's Alex Hawke , Lee Child's Jack Reacher , Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp , WEB Griffin's Killer McCoy , Stephen Hunter's Bob Lee Swagger , and Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne , you will love SAM WICK.
My first book by this author and the first in a series, now ten books and going strong.
Task Force-77 (TF-77) is a black ops team of NSA and the US Military. This is the team, the U.S. government calls when it needs to get people out of the most dangerous places on earth.
Sam Wick.Task Force 77's best. Master Extractor. Perfect Assassin. Where the government cannot and will not go, he will.
His mission: Extract Carlos Cruz-Diez—a New York Times reporter from the clutches of death.
Location: Venezuela Consulate in Vienna, Austria.
The Obstacle: Venezuela’s National Intelligence Service has sent sixteen of their best to execute this mission.
Timeline: Twenty-four hours.
Time is running out. Bullets are flying. Bodies are piling up. Nothing is as it seems.
Will Sam Wick succeed?
Hard to explain, firstly the book is only 190 pages, so a quick read. So the advantage of this book is it is a quick read, straight into the action, no build up, just straight in. This is also the dis-advantage of the book, sound confusing, yes it does to me as I say it.
The story is a quick in and out job, that is exactly what you get!
But what I ask myself , did I enjoy it, well yes, no time for chat, no time for a build up, just action.
It is fast paced, it has to be, but do I miss the build up, yes a little.
Wicked Deceit #2 – It took me several days to read this book; I could not for the life of me get into the writing style of Mr. Austin. While I like the character Sam Wick, I just did not care for the story; too much Hollywood or unrealistic for me. This story is OK and should make the younger generations happy. This is my favorite genre and I grew up on Ludlum, which are big shoes to fill by anyone. 3*
Wicked Storm #1 - This short story is my first read by this author and I did and did not like it. I like the character Samuel, but I did not like the writing style. Maybe with a few years writing under his belt, Mr. Austin may develop into a good writer. This story did show originality but came across as pretentious, which the author has since corrected so the pretentious vocabulary is reduced. There is an overview, which I appreciate knowing what the story is about before I read it. 4*
I stumbled upon this author and thought why not. Wicked Deceit by Chase Austin is the first book about problem solver Sam Wick. In this book they are supposed to keep a journalist safe from assassination by the Venezuelan government. To make matters worse the journalist is seeking help at their embassy! This was a actionfilled thriller with a main character that has no clue about his past. I really liked it and has got three more books on my tbr pile already.
What can one say about Sam Wick, an undefeated and very acute and astute assassin? A reader will come to expect the obvious – the type of characters may remain the same but the plots are different. What unfolds is a well-written good story that wastes no time on non-essentials. You are drawn in and immediately taken on a ride, naturally resulting in violence. I don’t love violence but it is necessary to the story. The actions are described but the resulting images are not dwelt on as by other authors so, despite wincing, you are likely to get through it without losing interest in how the story ends.
I’d like to point out that some critics may complain about the format. I’ve read where others have felt that writers who use large spacing are just trying to cheat on the page count. I don’t know about other authors but kudos to Chase Austin. I think it works perfectly in this case by clarifying the dialogue and speeding the action along. I love to read but for some people they are more used to reading just head-lines or so-called “sound-bites”. This style of formatting allows the reader to go at their own pace and yet creates a desire to keep on going – in other words, it is more easily digestible.
The author has one goal in mind – to accomplish a mission. So, you won’t get bogged down with descriptive settings and romance however, you will get insights into Sam’s character and background along with details as to how the action/mission will go down. I found myself wanting to discover more about Sam Wick so I am now into the next of the series. So far, I am enjoying the ride.
Chase did it again..great read!! Although short, each book seems to be stand alones, they add such great detail and such action packed page turning cant put the book down aww!! Read in a couple hours! Wick is the kinda guy I would never want to cross. Has great perception of his surroundings and can totally have his own back. Great likeable characters. Wish the books were a bit long to get more in depth with the back ground of wick and others. Cant wait to read the next book Wicket Hunter!! Sure hoping Wick finds who his parents are soon..the anticipation is getting at me. Awesome job Chase!!. Totally recommend to anyone who like fast pase action!! (Recieved as an Arc, leaving my unbiased review).
This is an action-packed thriller with lots of killing and bloodshed, definitely not for the squeamish. This book can be read as a standalone, or you can meet Sam Wick first in the short story, Wicked Storm.
In this book, you learn a little more about the enigmatic Sam Wick and also meet one of the teams he works with. He and the team have to safely get a reporter out of the Venezuelan Consulate in Austria before the reporter is killed for speaking out against the Venezuelan President. I can only hope that the next book in this series comes out quickly.
This is a fast-paced thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. International intrigue, violence and gore; not for the squeamish. Although this is a stand alone book, it leaves you wanting more. Who is this Sam Wick? I can see several sequels to this as Sam tries to learn about his parentage.
Solid thriller that follows Sam Wick with a task force intent on protecting a journalist in Europe. With a plot rooted firmly in recent events this story takes the reader on an action packed ride as the good guys attempt to complete their mission. I received an Advance Review Copy and chose to provide this review.
Intense Sam Wick Thriller! Sam Wick joins Team Vesuvius to stop Carlos Cruz-Diez, reporter for NY Times, from being executed by Venezuelan President Chambers. Fast-paced action and suspense, international intrigue, with amazing fight scenes made this an exciting read. Small cliffhanger sets up his next adventure. Enjoy!
I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
I enjoyed reading this action packed fast paced thriller and you will too. I highly recommend you owning a copy! It will have you in the edge of your seat, with your face buried while your eyes are willing your brain to take in every detail, every word so that your fingers will turn the page! Impressive!
This is the second book in the Sam Wick Rapid Thriller series and gives you a fuller story with the main character Sam Wick, than in the introductory short story Wicked Storm (Book one). This time Sam is sent on a mission with a crew. They work for Task Force 77 (TF-77), a deep, secret, black ops organisation that does the jobs the government needs to deny, whether that be to rescue someone from a dangerous place or to do something no-one else can. This is the organisation that gets called in and Sam is their most successful operative.
This mission calls for the team to rescue a reporter from the Venezuelan Embassy in Vienna. The reporter is in exile and wants to renounce his citizenship and needs to revisit the embassy to sign paperwork. The Venezuelan president doesn’t like his reports on matters happening in Venezuela and wants something done about him. He sends a team to grab him in Vienna and make him and his voice disappear. Sam and his team will walk into this situation and need to get out with their objective safely and hopefully all alive.
Sam has a single focus when on a job, but has a slight distraction just as he is going to start on this one. Whether that will affect his results will be left for the reader to find out. The large team sent in to thwart them is an experienced team, but they have Sam to get through to reach their target reporter. An exciting tale with a few really good twists added in with all the action. Lots of it is believable and not everyone comes out unscathed. Add in an unexpected assistant to the ambassador, who has a larger role to play than expected. Secret tunnels and local police all add to the fun.
I really enjoyed this. The first book, which was just a short story gave you a certain, but limited, view of Sam and someone else he worked for. This book gives you a lot more background on his upbringing and his success at what he does. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I will definitely look out for the next book in the series. The Sam Wick character and TF-77 seem like they will be good for a lot of action stories and thrilling reads. I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This is a Sam Wick Spy Action Thriller. The book is well edited. It feels like a news report and the dialogue is somewhat stilted. The first section seems to supply backstory and set the stage for the action to follow. Expect bloody violence. Going off-plan leads to unpredictable results.
Another great Sam Wick story, Intense, suspenseful, intriguing, and sit-on-the-edge of your seat action. A lot of action in this book. The characters were wonderfully created and realistic. I recommend this book along with the Sam Wick Series.
This is the 2nd book I've read written by Chase Austin; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
This series has suffered in the past from a lack of character development and thin plots. This latest book is greatly inproved in those areas while retaining the fast moving action the series fans crave.
ONE THRILLING RIDE!!! OMG! Talk about living on edge. A whirlwind of unexpected activities and surprising events that keep you flipping page after page. Chase's don't pull any punches, no holds barred, and take no prisoners attitude really set the tone for this fast paced read that leaves you wanting more. One thrilling storyline and explosive plot bring this bad boy bursting to life brilliantly. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that really pull this bad boy together flawlessly. Sparks fly as danger and suspense ensues in epic proportions. The characters are authentic, approachable and realistic with personalities and depth that screamed for respect. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Chase, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
I received an ARC from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. I'm really torn over my opinion of this book. While I like the characters of Sam Wick and his team, at times I felt like reading this was akin to trudging through quicksand. Part of this may have been because the ARC I was reading had only been through one editing and I have been called a grammar Nazi more than once, so all of the errors slowed down my reading considerably. Hopefully, all of those were corrected by the time the book was released. The story is the typical shoot-em-up spy story with guns, knives, hand-to-hand combat, and the requisite bad guys. I'm glad I didn't have to do the clean up from this mission! Overall I think this was a good book and Mr. Austin's writing will continue to grow with his experience. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Chase Austin is an up and coming great author with his new line of Sam Wick thrillers! His stories are a little short right now but they are building up with every new book and so is the truth behind Sam Wick. It is a great thrill ride in each book, this is the second book in the series and Sam WIck is a special ops guy that does all the dirty work no one else wants to do. I have always steered away from books like this, but I just can't get enough of Sam!
This book could be an extension of Mission Impossible or James Bond. The hero is Sam Wick and he makes a great black ops hero. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Fast paced. If your a fan of Rambo, you will like this book. Sam Wick and his team have to extract a reporter from the Venezuelan consulate in Austria. Venezuela has sent a team to exterminate the reporter. Lots of gun fire and body counts. I received an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book a lot. Great characters, full of action and adrenaline, well written, easy to read. Love it. I received a copy of this book and voluntary leaving a review. Good job.
Sam Wick, our protagonist, is the returning main character and this is the second in the series, but easily read as a standalone. The reader is being fed little bits of information about Sam Wick. In this entry, Sam joins team Vesuvius who is headed by Jessica, the logistics liaison. There is some chemistry between she and Sam and the team heads into Venezuela on a bloody mission. Once again, the plot kicks into high gear and zooms to conclusion. 007 on steroids. Wick likes to play the strong, silent type, opting to dazzle with pregnant pauses and clear-eyed stares. (At least he won't bore you with babble on a long flight!)
Some support characters here, not a one-man band, including Jessica and Henrique, the Venezuelan intelligence service director. Not a lot of humor, these missions are played out seriously, fast, and deadly. I saw some improvement in the second of the series in storytelling, but with minimal editing this also exhibited edit problems which assumed were corrected prior to publication. 3.5/5 stars
This is the first of the Sam Wick series by Chase Austin
Characters
• Sam Wick Team leader of TF-77, a black operations team headed by a cooperation between the NSA and the U.S. military • Wick's team members: Mac (IT specialist), Jakob (driver), as weak as Stan and Jessica. • Venezuelan characters: Henrique Arias Cardenas, director of the Venezuela Intelligence Service; President Chambers; and Carlos Cruz-Diez, a reporter for the New York Times.
The Mission
Wick and his team are tasked with breaking into the Venezuelan Embassy in Vienna and bring Carlos to safety.
Follow the team as the plan and attempt to rescue Carlos while Venezuelan soldiers are onboard to stop them. And all of this must take place in twenty-four-hours. It's a thrilling book and you can be sure gun battles will take place herein.
This is the 1st book in this series and the series kooks like a good one. The story begins with Chase meeting up with a team to discuss a mission on how to keep a journalist alive. The individual will be going to the Venezuelan embassy whe the President of that country has ordered this person's death.
After arriving in Vienna, the team makes a plan to thwart the killing. When the day arrives, they make a plan and arrive at the embassy early. They set up and wait. After he arrives, he is taken to the ambassador's office where he is captured. To complete this assignment, a major battle occurs.
To find out the magnitude of the battle and how they were able to survive, then you need to read this book.
The story was short and crisp, the major portion of it set across a period of a few hours and at one place. Sam Wick is an operative of an off the record agency called TF77. He's united with a team whose job is extracting an exiled Venezuela journalist from Austrian embassy. At the same time, the Venezuela intelligence too want the journalist. The rest is about the tussle between the two teams. What let me down is the writing style. Very immature. Lots of head hopping - which means the pov character changes frequently and in the matter of lines. So you never get to read the story from a particular character's perspective and it keeps confusing you throughout the book. There are hints of Wick's past and about parties who'll have a major role to play in the series.
