The fight is on for the soul of resurrected America, and the good guys are losing.
Tom Steeple and his Chinese allies have taken control of Overtime Prime, and with the fall of Nick Angriff their opposition is powerless to stop them. Steeple’s dream of a totalitarian America under his hand as benevolent dictator can now become a reality, even if it means making common cause with America’s mortal enemies. No treachery is too great to fulfill his ambitions, and those of his friends.
But American patriotism doesn’t die that easily, and Steeple just might find out that men and women still exist to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Regardless of the odds, some people take their service oaths seriously, even unto death.
Such courage always has a cost, though, and this time the cost is high.

I absolutely Love this series and wish it wasn’t so long between books. I appreciate Mr Webb’s ability to tell a futuristic tale that has such a believable story line. Next book please!!
William Webb has done it again with this 5th book in his "Standing" series. The 75h Cavalry rides again - doing battles with the Chinese and the Caliphate fifty years into the future. Webb perhaps writes military Sci-Fi better than any other author in the genre. LOTS of action, great ongoing character development, great plot line, and just enough left around the edges to leave us waiting on Book SIX (hint, hint).
I love it when the good guys win. Just sit down and read all of these Last Brigade books, one after the other. Good old fashioned pulp where the good guys come out on top.
This book isn't extremely good read as is this whole series Character development character interaction is amazing Being a retired army sergeant The description of the military hardware and tactics So that a 9 military person can understand themselves extremely well. My compliments to the author I'm looking forward to the next 1 with bated breath hoorah
This is one of the best series that I have read. William does an outstanding job of making you want to read cover to cover as fast as possible. I have enjoyed his series so much that I have started over with audio books. Can’t wait till the next one drops! Get it Today!
William Alan Webb writes very good action scenes and keeps the flow of the story moving. The previous novel in the series, Standing Before Hell's Gate, had a real cliff hanger ending. This one just lets you know there is another (and I hope more than one) coming. CMac
Wow! Glad that's over. What a waste of time. Read all five and wish I hadn't. Would have made a good perhaps two book series but five? The books got worse as they progressed. Illogical in the extreme even in a sci fi sense. Won't be reading any further obviously.
I have really enjoyed this series. The premise for these works is very interesting and pretty much a new look at Sci-Fi. Love the mix of different characters, who are well developed. And this installment is particularly interesting. Each chapter has a quote to start it off - take a look at the beginning of chapter 28; it’s very appropriate for the worldwide situation today. Also, we find that the great fall of the country had, at least in part, to do with COVID-19. Hmmm. Looking forward to the next digital book.
After reading the first four books, I was a fan and really looked forward to this one being released. I was not disappointed, I totally enjoyed the book with all of the action I expected from reading the first four. I didn't see anything about a number six but sure looking for one, can't leave the heroes hanging in the wind. Excellent read that I've recommended to my friends and family. My sister ordered the series and just started reading book one.
This book wrapped up enough of the threads to be enjoyable. It also left a few open for the future. Overall it is a satisfying read. Looks like the author has some good side stories in the works to add some additional details. The coming in 2020 list is most impressive.
Love the series, I would maybe have written it differently, but understand the authors reasoning. Mr Webb has done a great job, good characters and a decent balance between military technical details and understandability. Looking forward to the next book.
You have really out done yourself. I thought your story's could not get any better. MAN was I wrong. I served in1/7th regiment four years from , from 73 till 77 at Fort Hood, Tx I have read and reread all your books in this series. I wish I could live just a small part of this adventure. for 3 years I served as assistant ops st (SSG) we planned all training.. As for this series I cannot recommend it high enough it is a 10. Out of 10. My heart stops me from doing things any more however I discover kindle. THANKS FOR YOUR WRITING KEEP 1/7 Cav strong. GARRY OWEN SIR
The supposed death of General Angriff throw General Steeples’ plans into disarray. To compound his problems, not all of Operation Overtime is willing to recognize the military coup or follow his orders. Steeples has made allies of the Chinese, and that isn’t winning him any votes either. His next long-range plan is to offer the same olive branch to the Muslim Caliphate of the New Prophet contingent, called “The Sevens”. Green Ghost and Junker Jane go hunting when GG learns of Adders' existence. Joe Randall and George “Bunny” Carlos are held captive by an Air Force Colonel. Dennis Tompkins, Sara and Laura Snow Tiger, Dave Zuckerman, and John Tibidoe are pinned down by the Sevens in a cave. Out of curiosity, who was the old man that spoke to Angriff and left the jacket in the desert? The Americans of Operation Overtime were in a full-scale battle in several locations. First the Chinese, second, the army of the Caliphate, and then the defense of Shangrila. It was intense fighting, desperate and bloody. Great story. I liked it very much.
This is the last book, so far. This is one of the best series I've ever read! Nick the A has been declared dead by evil General Steele. But it's all a ruse. But as he returns to reclaim his command, there is far more in store for him and his family. Morgan is wounded and her fetus killed when the psycotic Adder. Then he finds out that his wife and youngest daughter have been infected by a serum that gives them a genetically engineered cancer and the brightest biologist has been killed and the cure and all his research has disappeared. What happens next will blow your mind!! There are ar least two more books planned for 2020 and 2021. I hope that there are more after that. Very highly recommended.
Terrible because it is a soap opera series. If you enjoy good old fashioned novels, skilled writing, character and plot development, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. This is comic book serial junk. The writer lacks confidence in his skill and his ability to bring the reader along. He dangles fruit like a child trying to catch ants. Leaves the reader with what he thinks are cliff hanger questions that can only be answered in his next bit of trash. Be a real writer William. CONCLUDE WITH CONFIDENCE AND MOVE ON.
The last book was a train wreck, but this one comes back on course. I can forgive errors, too much slang, silly made up military stuff, but not the actions and conduct of the characters in the last book. Then again, perhaps obama did that much damage to the military culture, Lord knows slick Willy did enough.
William Alan Webb has become my new favorite military sci-fi weaver of tales. This series grabbed me in a way I haven't experienced in a long time. This is an excellent tale!
Action, betrayal, love, deception, friendship, and that is just touching the surface This keeps you reading, you wouldn't want to put it down ... Or finish the series.
I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys drama, sci-fi, military and just a hell of a good reading. Could not put the books down. Enjoyed reading this series very much.
