Twenty-seven years ago they left her for dead on a Minorcan beach. Now she's back in Denmark, hunting them down one by one. But she got more than she bargained for, and opened up a vipers nest of assassins from a global organisation that will stop at nothing to neutralise her. Her one chance at salvation is her former lover, whom she hasn't seen in a quarter of century, and he is caught up in a complex web with one of her targets. From Jylland, across Fyn, and onto Sjælland, the chase is on as the most ruthless assassin races against time to get to her quarry before they kill her.
Based in Finland, author of the Nordic thrillers, North Karelian Boomerang, set in Finland, Tilda & Lærke, set in Denmark, and North To Akureyri, set in Iceland.
Tilda/Learke is not someone I would want to cross. What a bad-ass character! This was a complex web of enemies, friends, and lovers, woven in to a kill or be killed world. The characters were well developed and the settings realistic. The ending was oh, so fitting. Some of the satanic parts were more of a distraction than an addition to the story.
This is a book that I really enjoyed reading! I like the chase, a fast paced and exciting plot where the characters are complex and very well described- not just good or bad. I am amazed at how the author creates a sense of place so you feel like you are right next to the action. The knowledge of the local environments as well the character types speak about a very deep insight and understanding of the “playgrounds” whether it be in Denmark, the Nordics or all the complex international environments that the book takes you to. Anything can happen! I can’t wait to read the next book from Pat Halford. 5 stars
