KATE GELLAR is an Irish author of the Magical Mate series and Midnight Eternal series, steamy paranormal romance.

Murder mystery with a magical time travel twist and a super slow burn enemies to lovers in the background. This is a fun book with a lot going on. Geller does a good job building a rather complex world quickly while keeping the story moving. Good balance too on playing with the time paradoxes without getting bogged down in them. There are some darker parts to this story, but never seems to take itself too seriously so even the more gruesome bits are laced with humor. That said, there is some beef to the story - lots of threads and hits to the bigger mystery in the series.
I had to double check that this was the first book in the series because it jumps in at what feels like a recap of some of the most important bits of prior book(s) and there are a few point later throughout the book with references to characters or situations that I felt like the author assumed the reader would be familiar with. Digging about a bit is seems that this is a spin off of the Irish Rouge (RH) series, which is a curious choice as it seems that series would have a significantly different core audience.
This was such a delightful fantasy story to read. The plot and the relationship between characters were enjoyable, the world building is beautiful. The magic is very interesting, there are tons of spells and creatures that are very nice to see.
Still, there were things missing. A few feelings could've been more described. For example, there was a moment where there were tears, but there was not enough emotional buildup toward them.
I would have liked it if people with black magic didn't see themselves as bad. It looks like they accept the white witches' prejudice about them.
When Sylvie explained the time traveling situation, she was too quickly believed and supported.
For such powerful witches, they didn't have knowledge that was relatively easy to get.
Although there are many things to work on in this story, I'm really excited to see what comes next. I can't wait to dive into this world again.
I'm not normally an avid reader of books containing witches and other paranormal entities, but I have to say I enjoyed this book! It was well written - always good - and with a great set of characters. The attraction between the two main protagonists makes it interesting and adds some tension, making the possible outcome quite absorbing. There are some spellbinding twists (ha!) and some gripping action, and I do have to say that it was not immediately obvious to me just how the plot would go, which for me always makes a compelling read. So, surprisingly enjoyable for a reader who doesn't normally read this genre, and for those who do, I bet you will enjoy this book!
Was just getting really interesting with Penley and Sylvie and finding out the who and why and then book ends ! Ahhh ! You get a glimpse of what’s happening and it’s not what I was expecting with a bit if a twist and Its going to be interesting how things turn out now with what you know and especially as of the last few chapters, an interesting read can’t wait for the next book to find out what’s going to happen next
(3.5☆) The concept of time travel in this book is a little confusing for me, but the story is still amazing. I love the dynamics between Sylvie and Penley; I can tell they secretly love working together, and neither one wants to admit it. I am very curious about what Sue and Mary were keeping from Slyvie about the Freedmount bloodline, and I have a theory that one of them might be the rogue witch Watts was talking about.
