I’ve read several CSS books over the years but this one surprised me positively. It is complete, the examples are real and interesting, and the topics are well explained.

The title is a bit misleading. It made me first think that this book is about cool little fun projects to do if you have time to kill. They are actually real projects that you will use if you do any web development at all. Each chapter uses a different project from start to finish. But at the same time there is a tight focus on some aspect of CSS. So there’s really no fluff. In some other books, they use one project for the whole book. Not this one. So it keeps your interest and has plenty of contact.

Each chapter starts with the html (you don’t need to write it, although you should know what html is) and you can see the style take shape as you add more CSS.

In addition to the projects, the book starts with a very complete into to CSS. You can literally start from zero. It even explains SVGs and how to manipulate them. The book also covers sass/less/stylus preprocessing.

Full disclosure - I was a reviewer of this book and received my copy for free.

I found this to be a fantastic book to read and code my way through. The projects were well thought out and very realistic in their content. The tasks are relevant to what you'd face as a web developer, they were all interesting to complete and well-paced, introducing new concepts and keywords along the way without overloading the reader. Code samples are aplenty and the book is full of practical techniques that can be applied in the real world, all using vanilla CSS.

Highly recommended to readers who are new to CSS and to those who want to brush up on modern techniques.

Full disclosure: I was a reviewer of this book and received my digital copy for free.

This book is a great tool to learn CSS. Since you're doing actual CSS projects, it's very engaging. Since the book involves tiny projects, the immediate feedback of finishing something will keep you motivated. I love that this book goes above and beyond by teaching not only "what works" but also best practices. I love that they integrated accessibility topics. If you're a beginner looking to truly grow in your skills, get this book.

This book is good to have as you read the free CSS documentation on the MDN docs (by Mozilla) on CSS, which goes through CSS concepts and syntax in-depth.

The author chooses a great sampling of cases that demonstrate many of the core features of CSS, and demonstrate methods which one would use to build and design actual website building blocks. However, what I found especially useful was the discussion about the design decisions that went into the code. Not even simply "We're doing x because y - the discussion is more of the lines of: "We must consider y - x is a possible solution, but still consider a, b, and c." - It is very helpful when covering some of the more abstract topics.

I was one of the book reviewers. I have used CSS many years ago, but have dabbled in it ever since. I found this book to be an excellent source of information. It shows how modern CSS can be used to do some incredible things. I really enjoyed following through the various projects (source code available), and felt that I learned a lot of new concepts. The projects themselves are chosen to represent the types of projects that a real, working web designer might be tasked with. Enjoy!

I am a ServiceNow developer, and recently, I had to create numerous new document templates and fix existing ones, necessitating knowledge of both HTML and CSS. I turned to "Tiny CSS Projects," and I find the book's approach fantastic. It dives right into building small CSS projects, which, in my opinion, is a really effective way to learn CSS.

In my view, this book is not only helpful for frontend developers but also a valuable resource for ServiceNow Developers like myself.

This book is certainly not a beginner's book but you will learn lot of CSS techniques.
Cutting the book in small projects makes it easy to read.

In short: a great book for someone who wants to make a leap forward in their CSS skills.
