Sandstorm Miguel has claimed the lives of millions of people.
In an effort to restore the workforce and the economy to former glory, corpses are brought back to life—'reactivated'—and coded to work until they expire a second time. Alex Horizon, a 30-year-old farmer in a desert town, is surrounded by these Reactivations and has given up trying to find a living partner among the walking dead. With no one for company besides his drug-addled, often-cruel mother, Alex has resigned himself to a life of dull routine... Until he meets Luneh Yuan, a beautiful foreigner, and begins a harrowing journey of self-discovery and disaster that will either bring them closer or drive them apart. In a landslide of events, Alex will face more choices than he's ever had in his life and discover just what it means to be fully alive.
K. Cahill’s writing is primarily sparked by an avid interest in phobias, common life experiences, and all things gritty and dark. Her first novel, Code of the Undying, was inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the many stories of Ray Bradbury.
Aside from furiously scribbling drafts in longhand, Cahill is a prolific reader, gem collector, and artist in Skaneateles, New York. She can be found either running around the neighborhood of her small town, or curled up in a TBR pile of books with her small black cat, Mae.

This was an excellent book that hit close to home with the main characters name being Alex. I’m not positive how I felt about the last few chapters but everything before it was amazing with different twists and unexpected things happening. There is no reason for me not to rate this 5 stars just like the other 6 people who have reviewed this. I am honored to be part of such a small minority and hopefully other people will find this book and enjoy it as much as I did!
I don’t typically read sci-fi but this really kept my interest. The characters, while some, considered not human, were actually quite human. It’s a love story. It’s war amongst the humans and the dead brought back to life and their trials and tribulations. Cudos to this young writer. I look forward to reading more of her work.
Loved it! Felt like I was immersed in it like a movie (which I totally think it could be an amazing one). I also loved that it had just right amount of romance, not too cheesy and not too graphic. Great job!!
