Bruce, the ever-grumpy bear, helps the geese prepare for ballet.
The geese want to do ballet! But first they will need a lot of gear. They will need Bruce's help to get it. Do Bruce and the geese have what it takes to get ready for ballet?
Bruce and the geese are back for another humorous and charming tale—this one geared toward new readers. One day, the geese become enamored by the idea of practicing ballet, but they feel they need the right supplies before they can properly dance. So, after diverting Bruce from his day and subjecting him to their sad goose eyes, the geese convince Bruce to acquiesce and take a drive to purchase their required goods. But one trip is not enough, because each time Bruce returns, there is one more thing the geese require. And every time Bruce treks back to town, the drive is filled with challenges in both directions. Once the geese finally have what they need, however, they decide they are ready to chase a different dream, instead. This level one early reader book is excellent for fans of the Mother Bruce stories who are ready to become more independent readers themselves. Repetitive phrases and an entertaining plot keep readers engaged while enhancing their comprehension and confidence. Occasional variations in font size emphasize inflection, which helps readers better understand the sentiments that are likewise represented in the illustrations. Throughout the book, readers will find humor both in the text and in the imagery, especially since a secondary plot is happening solely within the illustrations as Bruce is traveling to and from town. Even readers who are not quite ready for the words will enjoy telling the background story from the clever visuals on each page. Funny, accessible, and filled with familiar characters, this is an excellent story for emerging readers to begin to feel comfortable enjoying a book on their own.

Rating: 3⭐⭐⭐!!!!!!!!! Book: Ballet Bruce Release Date: RELEASES on July 05, 2022 Author: Ryan T. Higgins Genre: Children's Fiction
Bruce is back! I love all the Bruce books. This one is cute and short since it is a reading level 1 book. I think kids will love the silly antics Bruce and the geese get into. This book is appropriate for kids ages 2-8. This book would be a great asset to a prek-2nd grade teacher’s library.
Thank you to @NetGalley and @DisneyPublishingWorldwide for an advanced copy of @BalletBruce.
First sentence: The geese want to do ballet today. But they need help. Will Bruce help them do ballet? The geese use sad geese eyes.
I've lost count of how many Bruce books there are in the world, but, you should go out and read them one and all.
In this early reader, Bruce is helping the geese "do ballet." It is very, very, very, very time consuming. Mostly it involves a lot of back and forth and back and forth as he buys everything they need. (I think my favorite part was when the store was out of fancy dance pants but had prancing dance pants on sale.)
Bruce in all his grumpy glory has a heart of gold. I love and adore him so, so, so, so much. In this one--like so many--he is very relatable. I think parents will surely be able to relate to Bruce's ordeal! I do think the book offers plenty of giggles to younger readers as well.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the early e-ARC of this book.
I love every Bruce book and am so happy there are now early readers for the kids who just can't get enough of Ryan Higgins' characters. This story made me chuckle as I thought about my personal experience with having to round up things for my kid, feeling like I think I am set, and suddenly there is one more missing item. I actually think adults will enjoy the humor as much, if not more than the kids. With that said, the book felt like it ended a bit abruptly, and I was even double checking to see if I missed a page! I still think my readers will love this one as they have the other Bruce books. I look forward to sharing it with them when it comes out in July.
We love Bruce and his found family menagerie. As this is an early reader book, the story is scaled back compared to other Bruce picture books but does contain the same engaging illustrations and characters that you would find in a full-length Mother Bruce story.
My five-year-old son called this book, "So funny!" He enjoyed the different obstacles Bruce encounters as he tries to outfit his begrudgingly beloved gaggle of geese for ballet. The illustrations of the animals are quite expressive, so we discussed how the different animals are feeling in each scene as well.
This early reader would be a fun addition to the library of any young Mother Bruce fan.
Thank you to Disney Publishing Worldwide and NetGalley for an advance copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
In this sequel to Ryan T. Higgin’s World of Reading Level 1 Bruce’s Big Fun Day (2019), the four geese who imprinted on Bruce in Mother Bruce (2015), the first of the popular picture books about the grumpy bear, want to do ballet after seeing a Swan Lake poster. They use sad goose eyes to cajole Bruce to ride his motorcycle to town through a congested construction zone to buy ballet shoes. The geese now want dancing pants. He makes a second trip to town and returns with them. but the geese still request one more thing. After a third trip, Bruce comes home with tutus, VERY tired, only to have the geese announce they no longer want to dance. They want Bruce to take them on a ride! (PreK-Gr 2)
I received an electronic ARC from Disney Publishing Worldwide through NetGalley. Bruce and the geese are back for another adventure. This time the geese want to perform ballet. Bruce agrees to go to town to get their dancing shoes. Then back to town to get their dancing pants, and, again, to get their tutus. Readers see the challenges Bruce faces every time he rides his motorcycle to town. The humor shines through as Higgins continues to share these characters. Readers will appreciate the details in the illustrations that flesh out the simple to read text. Terrific early reader book for young elementary level readers.
Bruce and the geese are back! This time, the geese want to learn ballet and Bruce runs into several roadblocks while trying to buy ballet outfits. I was so excited to be approved for this book! I love the Bruce books. The illustrations here did not disappoint…same old Bruce and geese. I like that this is different from the other Bruce books in that it’s an easy reader. But the ending confused me and felt incredibly abrupt. The geese never actually make it to dancing ballet. I think the ending could’ve been a bit better, but I suppose the challenge of writing the story with beginner words was too difficult for a smoother day ending.
A cute addition to the Mother Bruce series. My preschoolers have always loved the Bruce series and I always pick them up when they come out. This is the first one I have read from the World of Reading part of the series. It was good but not as great as the others in the regular part of the series. The little girl I nanny for does ballet so I thought that it would be the perfect fit for her. She was hoping it would have the geese do ballet, but it never got to that point. It was cute though and she did think it was funny that they wanted to do ballet.
*Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my ARC of the book. All opinions are my own. *
Bruce is back, and as charming and grumpy as ever! His geese friends want to do ballet, but they need Bruce to help them get ready. Kids will enjoy reading about everything Bruce has to do to help them, and parents will likely find his quest familiar as well. Full of laughs and a few groans, Ballet Bruce is a great choice for anyone who likes the previous Bruce books or funny picture books in general.
Disclaimer: I received a digital ARC of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest review. The opinions in this review are my own and not influenced by any other party.
The geese want to learn ballet, but first they need all the proper equipment. Only, they aren't so great at communicating, so Bruce ends up making a lot of trips, traffic is crazy, and finding what they need is a challenge.
Ah, the changeable nature of children and their interests. Parents will probably do a mixture of laughing and crying as they identify with Bruce's trials. Kids will find the antics and illustrations hilarious. There's a bit of a building nature to the text with phrases repeated to help beginning readers catch on.
OK, I think kids will like this more than me! I can definitely see my kids loving this. Sadly I felt oppressed by poor Bruce having to go through all that traffic. Kids identifying with the geese will not have that problem; it is very validating to see how hard he's willing to work to make his charges happy.
Also, I felt betrayed by the cover. That is not a scene that happens in the book, or that seems likely to happen. The cover promised me a different experience than I got from the book, which probably explains most of my disgruntlement.
The geese want to learn ballet so they ask Bruce to teach them. Using their sad geese eyes - so of course Bruce agrees. But they need shoes! And fancy dancing (or prancing) pants!! And tutus!!! And road construction. So do YOU think Bruce will teach the geese ballet? This is a fun, silly book for early readers and parents - who will empathize with Bruce on the whims of their young children. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an electronic copy of the book!
Bruce is a favorite character in our household. In this title the Geese want Bruce to do ballet with them, Bruce is apprehensive about helping but he can't tell them no. After a series of trips to get the much needed supplies the Geese decide they want a to forget about ballet and go for a ride instead.
The simple text is a great starting point for beginning readers.
Ryan T. Higgins is one of the best children’s authors. His books have humor conveyed both in the illustrations and through the words. Ballet Bruce was a good story but it would have been excellent if there had been more to the story. Those geese are known to change their minds but it would have been nice for the culmination of the story to include a dance scene. The visual of the geese in the tutus dancing was needed. We were so waiting for Bruce to dance with them.
This book requires knowledge of at least the first "Bruce" book, Mother Bruce.
It's good that I read this in the comfort of my own home, before presenting it to my students, because I couldn't stop laughing. Bruce is so relatable, and the illustrations convey such emotion.
I love the Bruce books. Ryan T Higgins is a new favorite author that I will buy anything he writes. However, this says this is a level one reader. Compared to the Disney’s world and reading books from the 80s in the 90s. Yes, this is much easier. However, this is not a level one reader. There are big and complicated words in it. There are lots of lines per page. This is not a level one reader but it is a fantastic book.
Bruce is trying to help the geese do ballet. They need supplies, which he runs back and forth to get of them, through traffic, construction, road work and deliver to the geese for them to do ballet. The illustrations make this book. They are colorful and fun to look at. Bruce is the grumpy eyed bear but he continues to help the geese even though he would rather stay home. Super cute book!!
Thank you NetGalley! First my rising first grader loves Bruce! Ballet Bruce did not disappoint. Super cute easy to understand plot and characters. Illustration on point and Bruce’s grump face makes her giggle. She said oh no he’s gonna eat the geese. Hahahaha we know Bruce would never do that. Will definitely add to our shelf!
Bruce the grumpy bear is cajoled by a gaggle of geese using the sad eye look to help them with their ballet. Bruce goes back and forth to town, through road construction to assist the geese in procuring every item they need to perform the ballet. But when it's time to perform, a change of plans happens.
This is advertised as a Level 1 reader, and it certainly is, but it also is one that any adult would like to read. Poor Bruce, he actually loves being a parent to the geese and demonstrates this throughout the book. Any parent will understand his sacrifice. The illustrations are primo when it comes to the background scenery. This book will be donated to St. Joseph’s School in Chehalis, WA.
Bruce is so funny as a parent, his flock of geese want to dance ballet and need slippers, tutus, and fancy dance pants. Bruce suffers the long drives to and from the store through construction three times and the ending reminds me of all kids who lose interest in activities after the parents invest the time and money. This is a level 1 reader rather than a picture book but fun to read.
Another humorous picture book about the adorably grumpy Bruce. This time the geese announce that they want to do ballet and need Bruce to get ballet shoes. Of course, nothing is ever easy with Bruce and the geese especially when Bruce has to maneuver his motorcycle around road construction. A fun addition to the popular Mother Bruce series.
Another winning book featuring Bruce and the geese. It will keep beginning readers and their parents amused from beginning to end. Recommended for grades K & up.
This book was super adorable! The illustrations were amazing and loved this book! It's an adorable story, and a huge fan of the author. This book is another great addition to the Bruce stories!
You can't help but love Bruce. And how could anyone not fall for "sad goose eyes"? Follow Bruce and he spends the day getting the geese ballet supplies. You'll have to read it for yourself to find out what happens. Thanks to Disney Hyperion for the advanced copy. Releases 7/05/2022.
