Seems like it could be quite useful, and I can definitely see the utility of copping over clear cut esp. at the small scale of a homestead and even more so for those further east closer to the humid Mississippi river valley. That being said, it's hard to personally vouch for the usefulness when you need 5-7 years minimum to grow a crop, but if you already have some woods to manage you might be able to try out some of these systems much quicker.
