I was conflicted about this one! Naruse really rubs me the wrong way sometimes (especially when he says things to Yuki like 'dumb' and 'stupid'.) but sometimes I just melt over the things he does. I feel like they have been circling for so long without too much progress so I'm ready for a bit more progress in their relationship or a plot switch - and we did get that in the end of the novel. We have some possibilities for other woman and other man drama and I am curious how it's going to play out the next few novels.

Hermana te quiero mucho pero DECIDITE DE UNA VEZ. Pensé que en este volumen íbamos a avanzar algo, and even though we did, we didn’t really.

Ya el back and forth innecesario cansa un poco, lo cual es una lástima porque la historia venía 10/10.

Naruse makes a very public confession that leaves the team in an uproar. Meanwhile, his fangirls start circling like sharks.

It was an interesting volume. After such a public confession I expected some progress with the relationship, but it just sort of stalled. Then the volume ended on an unfortunate cliffhanger. I was left both frustrated and curious to see what happens next.

Ngl I hated the ending.
I become a literal child when reading these and the fact that another girl KISSED NARUSE W/O his CONSENT!? And then says “close your eyes and pretend I’m Machida” NO THANKS. I’m throwing a whole fit.
But I’m a sucker for these cute ass mangas about literal teenagers so I did buy the next two volumes🤓

Naruse knows Yuki so much. When Yuki tells him to wait 3 months for her and he says no because then she’ll just tell him to wait until entrance exams are over.

Naruse also giggling at home at the memory of him telling Yuki the only thing he wants for his birthday is her and she replys with she already is.

The three basketball players saying “Was I not supposed to tell…?” about Naruse’s love life. That scene was so funny.

The ending was crazy. I do not remember that. I can’t wait for the next volume.

Dai che ci siamo, sento che siamo vicini alla svolta!

Avevamo lasciato i nostri protagonisti che avevano appena iniziato il loro ritiro estivo e partiamo con il botto con una proposta per Himeno, che viene salvata da un Naruse dispensatore di consigli per darsi una svegliata nella vita.

“peccato che quando si tratta di sentimenti non puoi concludere nulla se non apri bocca e non dici chiaramente cosa provi”

Inoltre, Sho è di pessimo umore perché la manager dedica attenzioni a tutti in egual modo, quando lui vorrebbe esser stato SOLO con lei, quindi si ritrova a sganciare una bomba di dimensioni notevoli davanti a tutti (del tipo: lei è la ragazza che amo).
Lei ovviamente panico, ma alle tante gli fa sapere che accetterà solo se lui aspetterà il tempo che lei abbandoni il club di basket. Questo perché Yuki, essendo la maggiore di 5 tra fratelli e sorelle ha sempre avuto un gran senso del dovere e di responsabilità verso i suoi compiti.
Per lo stesso motivo è sempre stata abituata a mettere i suoi desideri/emozioni in secondo piano per non creare scompiglio nella famiglia numerosa, e quindi trovandosi in questa situazione “scomoda” con Naruse, non sa minimamente da che parte iniziare per reagire anche se ormai ha capito che è lei stessa che si crea i problemi.

Dopo la giornata n piscina con il club, in cui lui non si comporta come al solito e il discorso con Ichii (che dichiara apertamente di volere Naruse), Machida sembra avere un’illuminazione e decide di voler parlare con lui, ma quando arriva vede i due che si baciano.

Lo avrete capito ormai…i riassunti servono a me per quando leggerò il prossimo volume e non ricorderò cosa sia successo nel precedente, fatevene una ragione ahahahah.
A parte gli scherzi, questa commedia la apprezzo sempre di più, soprattutto per il fatto che romanticismo e divertimento si alternano in un perfetto equilibrio e tenendoti perciò incollato alle pagine. Ora provate a rispondere a questa domanda:

Perché anche quando i tuoi sentimenti sono corrisposti, l’amore deve essere così complicato?

Mi piace moltissimo il taglio degli occhi di Naruse, meno il fatto che spesso hanno tutti la bocca sul mento... Naruse sarebbe anche parecchio affascinante se non fosse un molestatore nascente. È giovane, va bene, e ha gli ormoni a palla, lo comprendo. In questo volume non è stato molto molestatore, ma ho visto delle tavole del prossimo davvero simpatiche.
In tutto ciò, si parla delle esperienze passate di Naruse con altre ragazze come se ne avesse avute un milione. Ma quante ragazze può aver avuto un sedicenne? Per fare FikiFiki non ci vuole lo status di fidanzata, certo, però resto comunque scioccata dal quantitativo di esperienza che si vuol far credere abbia il protagonista.
La verità è che sono di un'altra generazione...

Cheeky Brat is a thoroughly enjoyable young romance. Yuki is the high school basketball team manager, a very stoic and dedicated individual who is always professional in her job and in her personal life. Stumbling upon her when she's showing an unusual bit of emotion, Haruse, the team's cheeky playboy, is intrigued with Yuki and pursues her romantically. Their romance continues to be about opposites that attract. Her dedication to avoiding romance is infuriating, but it doesn't make it any less enjoyable to read. I see many comparisons to Maid Sama, but My Little Monster also comes to mind. I enjoyed the story, and especially the likeably awkward third point on the love triangle. Additionally, the illustrations, especially those of the basketball players, are excellent.

Ok, so we are left on another cliff hanger? Gah, its so frustrating how well it hooks me each time I read a volume. Now that Machida has said that she wants to be with Naruse, she has asked that they not fully date until after the summer is over so that she can focus on the team. Naruse says that he will give her no more time knowing that she likes him back. Through this volume, you have the frustrating journey of Machida second guessing her actions and Naruse being the "cheeky-brat" he always is by instigating moments of pure cuteness. They are just the classic "I like you, but I don't like you" trope.

Oh. Mein. Gott. Die Zeit im Sommercamp war so toll! Die kurzen Momente der Zweisamkeit zwischen Sho & Yuki haben mein Herz höher schlagen lassen. Der Wunsch, dass sich Yuki zu ihren Gefühlen bekennt, ist tatsächlich wahrgeworden, was mich natürlich riesig gefreut hat. 🥺🫶🏻

Was ich weniger gut aufgenommen habe, ist die Präsenz einer neuen Figur, die im Laufe des Bandes mitgemischt hat. Irgendwie empfinde ich wenig Sympathie für sie. Und was ist das bitte für ein fieses Ende? Ich war wirklich fassungslos und hoffe, dass die Umstände geklärt werden. 🥲💔

Volume 5: Chapters 25-30

The basketball camp arc continues. A random thuggish high schooler publicly proclaims his feelings for the shy Himeno, and honestly, I'm into it LOL. They would make such an interesting couple, maybe in the future. We even got a brief flashback of the moment when he fell for Himeno and I hope we find out more about him later!

The test of courage nonsense was hilarious, with Yuki finally telling Naruse, "I said I'm already yours." Girl, you can't back out now!!

Aaaaand of course we have a cliffhanger ending with the girl who likes Naruse.

After giving it some time, I picked this series back up again and I’m still not sure how to feel about it. While I originally liked Naruse and Yuki’s relationship, I’m beginning to wonder how much more miscommunication I’m going to put up with. I understand that they’re in high school but it’s a bit too frustrating; especially since a love rival for Naruse’s affections was introduced and it’s difficult for me to tell her apart from Yuki.

In volume 5, the Ryuhoku basketball team embarks on a three-day summer camp. But there's more than basketball happening... especially as Yuki continues to wrestle with Naruse's confession.

This is one of those mangas that I adore, but it really does drag out the romance. Still a fun read, though.

This was a decent volume. Nothing new really happens and we get a lot more of Machida trying to sort out her feelings. The cliffhanger at the end was a little predictable but I am interested to see what happens next.

I understand that most of the plot for romances is often misunderstandings. And I get that communication is a skill that has to be polished. But this is starting to drag on a bit. Just get together already.

I like Hakamada more than Naruse. And the ending to this volume… WTH. I do wish that our Yuji was a little more certain/aggressive in her feelings even just internally. Naruse is typically more open with his feelings towards her so I’m not enjoying him also lacking in communication.
