Sharptooth

Rate this book
Sharptooth runs through the forest under the light of the moon and spends each day hiding from the sun in the burnt ruins of her family home. One night she braves the cobblestone streets of the nearby town and stumbles upon a silver-haired girl in a walled garden.

Lyssa’s parents couldn’t stand to see her wither away, so they have left her with only a maid for company. She thinks her unusual new friend is just the thing to distract her in her final days…but Sharptooth has other plans.

When Lyssa’s parents return with a dangerous stranger, the girls will risk everything to seize control of their destinies and create a new future together.

For Sharptooth and Lyssa, this is just
the beginning.

Title: "Sharptooth" by Mika Horvath

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Sharptooth hunts little warm blooded creatures alongside her wolf friend, Shadow. When they come across the scent of delicious biscuits, Sharptooth can't help but grab a few. However, the little girl, Lyssa, spots her and soon they become friends. But, when Lyssa's parents try to marry her off to a sinister man, her and Sharptooth have to think of a plan before it is too late.

Review: I recieved this book from BookSirens, so thank you to them.

I enjoyed this little novel about a vampire making a friend with an ill girl. Sharptooth isn't exactly sure where she came from and where her mother is. However, with her best friend Shadow, she hunts and sleeps throughout the day. It was a sweet story until near the end, it got... weird.

A few editing issues and the ending seemed a little rushed. But, it was a change of pace and well written. An easy read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sharptooth is a fun quick read which I really enjoyed. At the end it became a little bit weird but to me in a good way. Sharptooth is a bit strange but I thought the book was adorable. Especially the friendship between Sharptooth and Lyssa.

The ending was quite rushed in my opinion. A lot of things were forced into thirty pages and for me it could’ve been a bit longer.

I would recommend this to anyone to try. Especially if you like books that are different from the ‘standard’ romance or fantasy books!

I have always been a fan of a good vampire story, and this does not disappoint. It isn’t horror or scary, but explores the friendship between two young girls as they adventure in a world that doesn’t really have a place for either of them.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A twist on the vampire story

Sharptooth is a vampire living in the forest by herself. She drinks the blood of forest creatures which she hunts with her wolf Shadow. Things change when she meets a sick girl named Lyssa and they become friends. At first this felt like a retelling of Carmilla but the last half of the story changed Sharptooth into a hero who saves her friend.

This book just gave me a warm hug from my childhood. It’s a really good book + the characters are well written. A five star read for me. ❤️ I have received this ARC for free and I’m eternally grateful for this.

I liked the build and reveal to Sharptooth's backstory but there were some muddled parts that I didn't quite get - how old is she, for one, and how long ago did everything happen to her? The final section was a bit abruptly gory, which I didn't expect, but I enjoyed the extra bit of worldbuilding.

Really solid MG horror read, with an interesting take on vampire lore. I really liked the evolution of the friendship between Sharptooth and Lyssa; I just wish the pacing had been a bit more consistent.
