Can't wait for the sequal!!
Oh my. I know it's hard, but just read through the first few chapters. It will ALL make sense!
This book centers around the Newsome family. Parents Alford and Beth with their children Charlie and Katie as they try to navigate and run a world after American has been destroyed. The premise is that, as humans, we have become un-redeamable, and American has been "Reset." With only 500 ppl left, they form new towns, but there is a catch. Each town is only allowed 5000 "bad" points every 5 years.
At first, the book seems a little disjointed. A lot of past back story that doesn't seem nessassary. It is. The author did a suburb job showing why each pearson joined up for this seemingly dictatorship world. Every character has their own role to play, and their background gets them to that role.
The book ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger! I will be biting my nails waiting for the continuation!

I really enjoyed this book by a new author! Sucked me in right away with the characters and found myself wanting to continue reading into the late hours to know what would happen next. It's a light and easy read, a great page turner. I highly encourage people to give this one a go! :) I can't wait for the sequel to see what happens as the author left her readers on a cliffhanger.

I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The premise of ReSet is a good one, but it seemed to be a bit bare-boned plot-wise. Too much of the storyline was about Charlie, even though the book should have delved into more details on how the Chosen were chosen. So many characters were thrown in but didn't really add anything to the narrative.

It felt like a Hunger Games attempt that fell flat, and I'm not sure that leaving a cliffhanger in order to flesh out a second book was a good idea. I hope that the sequel redeems the story.

Great things from new aughor

Certainly better than the average kindle book. Dialog was good and pulled me right into the plot. Kept me interested to the end. Sure hope there is a sequel because I need to know what happens. Keep the good work. Kudos to the author. If you like dystopian you should enjoy this.

Can’t lie; it’s a bit inconsistent, and lacks a little on the proofreading, but I’m not totally thrown off, even though that really is one of my biggest pet peeves.
The plot is original, the story is good and, I WILL be reading the next one. Gotta know where this is heading..

The story is very interesting, I'm excited to read the conclusion. There are A LOT of spelling and grammatical errors. They average about 2-3 per chapter. Some were easy to ignore, others were irritating and changed the story enough that I had to reread the passage to make it make sense.

Wow! That was amazing! I just finished it, and I’m still trying to take it all in. If you like The Hunger Games or Divergent, you’ll like this book. I’ll be honest, I was a little unsure when I first started it. I think I was a little overwhelmed by the introduction of characters and explanations of their backgrounds. It was a lot to take in all at once, but I can see how it was necessary to gain understanding of everyone and the decisions they had made. It’s a fast paced book and an easy read. I enjoyed all of the characters and how they handled their circumstances. It was all so good! I couldn’t put it down once I got halfway through it. This is the fastest I’ve read a book in a while. Be aware that it ends with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the sequel!

Good premise!

I want to start off by saying I definitely liked the story and think it's an interesting dystopian novel overall! Some potential mild spoilers.

The idea of a mass obliteration of "bad" people and the strict control of the remaining population is interesting. I would have liked a deeper look into the history and process. As it it's written, we as readers are really looking in from the outside and don't get a solid picture of how it all happened. We're given bits and pieces in a manner of "this is how it is." I felt a little like I was watching a group of D&Ders who were already mid-campaign and I was trying to piece together the backstory they already knew. As others have said, it felt kind of rushed, the story would have benefitted from some deeper world building. Same thing with the characters, I didn't feel like anyone was developed enough to where I really understood or cared much about them.

There were a lot of time jumps that were really confusing to me. I'd be reading and suddenly it was kind of like "oh btw, it's been 8 months" and "they had been working on this project all along and made so much progress in such little time," but we weren't really given any sense of what happened in that timeframe.

I personally don't like an omniscient point of view. It's one thing to have a focus on different characters in different chapters in a more limited third person, but here we'd read about how several people felt and thought on the same page and it felt very muddled.

I also think the book as a whole would really benefit from a tighter editing/proofreading process as I found lots of little errors. Also, paragraphs were excessively long, some spanned several whole (Kindle) pages and I'd actually take breaks from reading right in the middle of paragraphs because it just hurt my brain to try to get through huge passages like that.

This is a minor thing but I think the blurb should be reworked a bit. It talks about how this is a book about Tommy putting the whole city in trouble but Tommy was honestly a very minor character in comparison to the Newsome family, especially Charlie--it seemed like the story revolved almost entirely around him while Tommy didn't really come into the picture very fully until near the end.

I feel like I'm just coming across as very critical with my feedback and I don't mean to... I do think the author has a ton of promise and good ideas, just needs to work a little more on the world building and character development. I felt both rushed and as though it took forever to get through the book because I just wasn't totally hooked (that may just be me as I've seen lots of readers who loved it and became very invested in the characters and story). I'm undecided at this point if I'll be continuing with the duology/series even despite the cliffhanger at the end. With the book having only 200 pages I feel like it was a rush to get the first book out when it could have either been expanded or both books made into one.

In a world of books that cannot usually surprise me, Loy’s ReSet did!

Synopsis:
This book takes place in a United States that has been overrun by an evil dictator. He has saved only a small number of people he deemed worthy of life: the “good” ones. (Whether or not these people can be considered good when they agreed to help annihilate the rest of humanity is not a topic deeply explored in this book.) Most of the story takes place in a series of flashbacks showing how various people ended up in a new city under constant surveillance. When a citizen makes a mistake, the behavior bar climbs. If it reaches 100%, the whole city is ReSet: all people are killed.

Review:
I am a big fan of dystopian books. I was highly fascinated by the idea of ReSet and it’s tagline “Be Good, Your Life Depends On It”. I was eager to see how a town full of people had to work together to make no mistakes. I was captured immediately in the prologue and entered the book with eagerness. The book ended up falling flat for me due to some developmental issues. The flashbacks within flashbacks kept me very confused. There were some overall inconsistencies that made this a difficult read. Yet the premise for this story was unlike any dystopian I have ever read. It was a fascinating concept and has a ton of promise. I’m hoping the other books in the series will explore in more depth the concept of “good,” especially under surveillance.

Really a page turner, but I couldn't get immersed due to grammatical issues. Just as my attention would be grasped, I'd come across a sentence that lacked a word, or had the wrong word than intended. 4 stars for the plot and gripping story none the less.

4.5 for me!! Thank you Savannah, for introducing me to ReSet and Utopian!

I'll start by saying I bought this book because the author is in a social media group I am in, and she is humble, helpful, and someone who I intend to meet in person, we live in the same state! I liked her from our conversations and when I clicked on her link to this book and read her author bio, I knew my gut instinct was spot on, and that I'd consider her my friend even if she wasn't an author!!

Now, we all want to support our friends.. So I did what any good friend would do and I bought her book to support her. I have hundreds of books that I want to read whether they are digital or physical copies. I knew it could be years before I read it. Her second book was also set to release about the same time I "met" her online, so naturally, I snagged that one too. (Thank goodness I did!!!) I haven't had any un-put-downable books this year.(it's June 2023, I've read 10 books this year) The books that make you stay up late, falling asleep while reading, and ignoring the dishes, laundry, and other chores. So, when it was time to choose my next book last week, I thought what the heck, why not? This one, was un-put-downable!

Enough with the why I bought this book, which is normally not my genre, I might add. 😉

At first; I wasn't focused and I felt lost. So, I "reSet" and started over. The storyline to this book is mindblowing. The characters are relatable and likable, even the antagonists. Each character has been thought out and presented in a manner that you feel like you know them. The plot, in hindsight is brilliant; I say in hindsight because it kept me guessing all the way through.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, once I grew accustomed to Savannahs writing style. She left my jaw hanging at the end and I'm so glad I didn't read it at its release and have to wait for ReBorn to come out, which I WILL start today.

I give this book 4.5 stars, because of the author herself, her character development, the cover!, and the storyline.

What I wish would have been different-
I wish that certain parts of the story were elaborated on as thoroughly as the characters themselves were- like the building of the underground... there was so much potential left untouched in creating that!
I also wish that the chapters included time indication. They were all titled, beautifully and fittingly, but the story jumps to different times periods and it would have been nice to know it was a year later, 2 years earlier, or 6 months later without having to read the context to find out. This did not take away from the book itself, it just created confusion when starting that chapter until you get to the part where it tells you in the book that time had went by, or that you were being taken back.

I can't wait to see more of Al, Beth, Katie, Charlie, Tommy, and the rest of the Utopianites. Onto ReBorn I go!

A horror/dystopian novel premised on a popular trope — but delivered from a novel perspective. In ReSet the world as we know it has come to an end and a new oligarchy has come into power. A committee of a few men now decide who lives and dies and the terms which everyone must now abide. Failure to do otherwise results in the collective execution of whole communities, a reset. The novel reveals all through the eyes of one of its elite families, those chosen to plan and carry out the gruesome task of resetting.

The premise is inherently intriguing, given the climate change, political and social turmoil of the American nation at present; one cannot help but wonder what consequences we may need to confront — and perhaps sooner than we would like to admit. ReSet plays on those fears. In that vein, the novel is reminiscent of Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale and the eugenically driven political world of Gilead. A central theme of the novel is the corruption of power and the terrible consequences this can lead to.

For all its unique perspective, I found the narrative arc of the story predictable and the peak of the novel, its crescendo, slightly disappointing and less explosive than promised. The drama of that moment is confined to a small circle, decreasing the visibility of its larger impact on society. Given the drastic shift in culture that the apocalypse created, I expected a greater dramatic backlash or swing in equal measure. The ending suggests a sequel, and perhaps this is where the novel leads — rather than to a terminal ending.

On the whole, the novel was well-written, though there were some parts which unfolded in confusion — deliberately, I suspect — which detracted from the flow of the novel for this reader. Nonetheless, this is a minor complaint. Likewise, characters are well-developed and tangible, though some better than others. On the whole, an intriguing read for readers who enjoy dystopian possibilities.

ReSet
By
Savanna Loy
4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The premise of ReSet is the world’s society and its population has gone bad, with only a minor portion of the population being considered good. World leaders have decided that there needs to be a drastic change in the inhabitants attitudes, values, and actions. To accomplish this, it is decided to terminate the majority of the population and choose only the very good inhabitants to start over. The plan, in a nutshell, was to establish a city run by a chair who kept the population in line and answered to Mr. Grayson Jeffers the brains behind the ReSet project. The city’s population was always being watched and monitored and any bad behavior would be marked. Each town was allotted 5000 marks for bad behavior every five years. Over the 5000 mark, the city was ReSet, meaning all the inhabitants would be terminated. The city of Utopian was being led by Chair Alford (Al) Newsome, along with his wife and two children. Everything was going along smoothly until a new mother and son were assigned to Utopian, and the son Tommy, was a bad boy.
I found the first few chapters a little hard to get through, but that is what I expected with this genre of novel. The storyline does pick up and as the story develops, I found myself getting more involved with the characters and the events of each chapter. There was a lot of tension and emotion, as you realize that each bad mark meant becoming closer to a ReSet and the annihilation of the city’s population. The plot was both haunting and scary, but at the same time the character development was intriguing. I was confused at certain portions of the story and still am. The ending was a real cliffhanger and I am going to purchase the sequel to find out what happens. Too much left hanging.

This book is about the "reset" of our world. Only people who are deemed "good" can survive. 500 chosen people are left to recreate the world, but be careful because too many bad things will cause your city to be reset, killing everyone who lives there. I absolutely loved this book! The cliff hanger at the end had me immediately buying the second book. I just have one small minor complaint that doesn't really take anything away from the story. The blurb for the book I felt gave away the ending despite the cliff hanger (which was unexpected). It also mentions Tommy as if he's a main character but we don't even meet him until we near the end. I feel as if this blurb would have gone better on the second book maybe? Regardless, I truly did enjoy this book. Savanna's writing style is great. I believe she's an amazing author. I'm already half way through the second book and can't wait to finish!

This was the first book I’ve read that is a debut novel by a new author and I am very glad that I gave it a go. I love a good dystopian novel and this one did not disappoint. Without giving away spoilers, I can say that the plot line is clever and inventive, and the characters are compelling. I have read a lot of dystopian stories and this one did not feel like a retelling of ideas that are already out there. It had me questioning what I thought makes someone “good” or “bad,” and then wondering which side of Jeffers’s moral compass I would fall under myself. True to what I had read from others, I did not predict what would happen at the end. I look forward to seeing what happens in the sequel because the cliffhanger at the end is a real shocker!

Savannah writes in a style that gets straight to the heart of the story. While she does set the scene with descriptions of the settings, she doesn’t have her readers going through paragraph upon paragraph of it. Her focus is on character development and the the tone of the story. My brain reads faster than it comprehends and I enjoyed how straight-forward her writing style is with what matters most to me in a story.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone who would enjoy a fresh idea for the dystopian genre. I have no doubt that Savannah Loy is going to be a well-known author and I’m definitely going to treasure being one of the first to read her debut novel.

I need more!!

Oh my goodness!! I am a sucker for any kind of dystopian\apocalyptic fiction, and Savanna did not disappoint. ReSet had tension, mystery, and a slow unfolding that not only helped build the suspense, but it kept me wondering when the tables would turn for All and his family.

In his cultish approach to "saving" the world, Jeffers has everyone fooled into thinking his actions are for the greater good. What no one realizes is that it is for the greater good, but it's the greater good for Jeffers. So long as it suits him, it's okay. I found myself wanting to insert myself into Utopian so I could have a go at him myself.

The pressure put on everyone to be perfect and the added pressures for Charlie definitely made me empathize with the characters. Add in the secrets that begin unfolding, and you've got the recipe for an amazing book that is impossible to put down!

Lastly, I caught myself flipping pages faster and faster in the last chapter, and my jaw literally dropped when I flipped and there wasn't another page. I'm I awe of Savanna's ability to get new so invested that I don't realize it's the end. I'm also in shock and denial for how it ended, and I'm going to go bite my nails until I can get my hands on book 2 as I NEED to know what happens next...

I found the concept of "Reset" to be quite intriguing. The premise of the book held promise, and I was excited to delve into it. However, as I began to read, I encountered difficulties in connecting with the storyline.

There were moments within the book that managed to capture my attention, and I could see the potential for an engaging narrative. Unfortunately, these moments were often overshadowed by a sense of rush in the storytelling. It felt like the plot was hurtling forward without providing the necessary depth and explanation. This rush left me feeling somewhat disconnected from the characters and their motivations, which hindered my ability to fully engage with the story.

As a reader, I appreciate a balance between a fast-paced plot and a well-structured narrative that provides a clear understanding of the world, characters, and their motivations. "Reset" seemed to favor speed over depth, which, at times, led to my loss of interest. I found myself wanting more elaboration on the plot, the characters' backgrounds, and the world in which the story was set.

In summary, while the concept of "Reset" had great potential, its execution left me wanting more. It had its moments of capturing my attention, but the rushed storytelling and lack of sufficient explanation on the plot elements prevented me from fully connecting with the book.

ReSet is a dystopian novel written from an omniscient point of view by Savanna Loy. It reminded me of a favorite TV show, Colony. The Authority, a military occupation regime, takes over Los Angeles. The Resistance is a collection of brave individuals who stand up to The Authority.
In ReSet, the world literally starts over, killing off most of the population. Those chosen to run the first city, Utopian, are subject to rules. You make a mistake, and your actions affect everyone. Get too many mistakes, and the city and its inhabitants are wiped out.
A slow start and multiple points of view, flashbacks, and time jumps make the book difficult to follow. In contrast, the second half takes off like a rocket. You are on edge of your seat for the rest of the book, turning pages faster and faster as you try to figure out what is coming next.
As a rock star of the book, and one of the most likable characters as well, Charlie, the son of Alford (Al) and Beth, plays a vital role in the outcome of ReSet.
A reset of Grayson, the mastermind behind resetting the world, is needed. Hopefully something will happen in book two.
There is a MAJOR cliffhanger in ReSet, so I recommend getting book two as soon as possible.
A must read for dystopian fans!

3 1/2 stars - rounded up to 4.

This book reminds me a lot of the Wayward Pines trilogy. It is set in a world where one man decided that the world is flawed and he was going to single-handedly going to repair it. However power ultimately grows and nefarious things start to happen. Until another individual decides enough is enough.

I loved the idea that they would have separate towns, five year limits, etc. It had some really good world building. Although I really didn’t like reading “Mother” and “Father” constantly. Using their names or allusively referring to them would have been sufficient. Also at some point the main character mentioned making the world great again. Both of these just gave me the ick. I also really enjoyed the backstories for how people were chosen, what deemed them as good, etc.

I’d really like for the author to elaborate on the world leading up to the New World ReOrder. How did they pull it off taking out the entire United States? What does the rest of the world think of this? Why hasn’t another country (i.e. Canada) stepped in? The present had good world building but I have a lot of unanswered questions.

I’ll definitely give the sequel a read.

I picked up ReSet at the request of a friend as the story sounded rather like the YA dystopian novels of my teens. I started reading it before I went to bed and finished it before I went to sleep. It's a pretty quick read, and a pretty good story.

The plot's interesting, though it's a little surprising how easily the unsuitable people are eliminated. I think I only actually liked a couple of the characters; however I don't think we were necessarily meant to as these are fairly normal people (for the most part) dealing with an extreme and abnormal situation. The fellow in charge, Greyson Jeffers, who made this situation happen, keeps a close eye on the people he allows to form towns with the help of microchips implanted in them. Each town is allowed so many "bad" actions before it is "reset" aka destroyed. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, but doing something about it is hard with the close surveillance. The end of the book felt a bit like a cliff-hanger to me, but I am hoping the author is able to publish book 2 soon.

5☆ amazing stars☆☆☆☆☆

Amazing story !!!!!!!!

How easy it could be for just one man to destroy everything...scary thought.

The world had turned dark.

Grayson: knew the US would destroy what he fought far. He knew he was the man to fix it all.

Alford: loyal man to his family. One of  Graysons top guys, friend to everyone, but will he be the one to save them all?

They all had the same goal: be good, stay good, and create good.

Every bad word, bad action, and bad move is one step closer to a reset.

The destruction of mankind.

"Utopian someone is always watching."

"Warning, warning, you have 360 minutes until a full town reset."

What one man can destroy and another can rebuild.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The best dystopian book I've read in a very long time. Great character development,  you will fall in love with all the characters (well except 1 lol). I will patiently wait for the next book....huge cliff hanger.

I give this book 4 out of 5.
The book starts off well, but it's jumped around a lot. With flashbacks, time jumps, and multiple points of view, it made it sometimes hard to follow. As you keep going, though, it only gets better, and you're finding yourself turning page after page and wanting more and more. The story, although very captivating and intriguing, I wanted more. And in a sense, it's not a bad thing about the book. I do look forward to reading the second part of the series. The end really throws you for a loop and is making you want that second book sooner rather than later. I'm not much for cliffhangers personally, but she really did it well for the ending of this book.

I gave it 4 out of 5 due to the beginning. I felt overwhelmed, but as the book progressed, it really picked up, and you weren't disappointed.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves Dystopian and Apocalyptic type novels. Or anyone willing to try out a new genre like me!

This novel has a great dystopian premise. While this is not a typical storyline you see often, I believe more and more of these type storylines are being released with a different take on each one. This definitely has an interesting take.

I really enjoyed the fact that this novel even gave a backstory. Similar novels I’ve read that are comparable, give you the current storyline and then bring out a prequel to tell you the backstory. I like that this one already included the backstory as it gives further depth and understanding into what happened and how this came to be.

The characters are enjoyable and the chapters aren’t overly long making it fairly quick read.

As this is part 1 of 2 thus far, I am excited to this storyline continue and see what happens next. Reborn is the next in the series and I cannot wait to order it to continue.

Highly recommended for those who enjoy dystopian novels.

It's tough to stand out in any genre, but given how popular and how many Dystopian stories have been over the past decade or so, it seems even more of an achievement to do so. ReSet does more than stand out, however - it holds onto you. I went through the majority of the book in four days or so, because I could not put it down!

Characters, plot, setting - ReSet captures it all perfectly and weaves a story around them that will surprise you in how well it makes you care for the people of Utopian and what they end up going through via simple use of backstory and interaction and, most importantly, atmosphere. Tension. I found it very easy to feel what the atmosphere was like in Utopian especially, but even other touched on locations Alpha and Phoenix.

Excellently crafted. I highly recommend ReSet. If you enjoy Dystopian stories, or just well built characters and settings, then you'll enjoy this.
