I was really enjoying the first timeline. The H was protective and mildly possessive. The h was sweet. You could really feel how much they adored each other.
Then the separation. And honestly I have no idea why, aside from the cousins stories needed a different timeline, it needed to last 8 years. That was overkill and unnecessary. And I mean really would he have ever come back if his dad wouldn’t have died? I’m not convinced.

Hateful is the first book in the Wicked West Rejects series by Cora Brent. This suspenseful and passionate story mesmerizes from the first page to the last. Gage and Dani are two tortured souls who can only find solace and peace in each other, but outside forces are determined to tear them apart.
“I can see you, Dorothy Ann. I can always see you. Even when I pretend like I don’t.”
Dani is a contradiction in character. On one hand, she’s a shy, awkward girl who tries to blend into the background and just get by in her day to day life, but on the other hand, she’s full of sass and vinegar and determined to stand up for herself. I loved both sides of her. She’s had a tough childhood and when she meets the Gage and his cousins, she finally finds a place to belong. It’s not an easy road to become accepted by them, but once she does, this foursome would do anything for each other. In Gage, she finds someone who truly sees her and accepts her for who she is.
“I’ll never be in control where he’s concerned. Gage Silvestro is my kryptonite.”
To the outside, Gage is the boy with no heart. He’s rude and careless with his words and cares about no one but his cousins, but Dani touches a place deep inside him with that forces him to let his guard down. She doesn’t make him feel like an outcast with his idiosyncrasies and just accepts him. His home life is painful and destructive and he will do anything to shield those he loves from suffering the consequences of his family’s hurtful ways. Underneath all of his hateful words and cruel behavior, he has a huge heart and will protect his “family” even if that means hurting them.

With each other, Gage and Dani find a true connection and they truly understand one another. I loved their snarky banter and watching their relationship evolve.

Dziwna jest ta książka. Oczekiwałam czegoś zupełnie innego i nie do końca wiem co o niej sądzić. Jak dla mnie, ta książka jest trochę zbyt przegadana. Za dużo grzybków w barszczu, a do tego trochę niespójna jeżeli chodzi o Gabe'a. No i to zakończenie... Nie jestem zachwycona, bo jednak było bardzo naciągane.

This first book in the Wicked West Rejects has you enchanted from the very first page. Gage and Dani are two broken people who will only find the pieces to heal them within each other. These two have a connection that can't be missed and is poignant. Their story is packed with secrets, suspense, drama, danger and passion. The emotions will have you riding the most intense roller coaster as you are kept on the edge of your seat with your mind working overtime. It is also a true love story that will steal your heart. Cannot wait for more from this series as I am eager for Micah and Connor's story.

Addictive
Fantastic characters that had me invested. I needed to know everything I could about them. Book hangover had me up all night I was that invested in their story.
Gage gave up everything he loved to protect the ones he loved. He may not have been there physically but he watched from afar biding his time.
Dani was relatable and likeable, and for me that’s a must anything else I’m losing interest quickly. I want to love the characters as well as the story.
This read had it all, the suspense of wondering who and why.
Their love story was a journey but they found their way back to each other. Love really never fades.
It’s a yes from me.

Słyszałam tyle dobrych opinii i nastawiona byłam na conajmniej arcydzieło. Nie była to zła książka, może po prostu moje oczekiwania były bardzo wysokie. Przez to że więcej było opisów pobocznych sytuacji a nie relacji miedzy bohaterami nie poczułam żadnej chemii między nimi. Trochę rozczarowało mnie to że w jeden wieczór od osób które się nie lubi doszło do tego że prawie wylądowali w łóżku i wyznali sobie miłość. Tak samo powrót po 8 latach milczenia z dnia na dzień i wszystko zostało wybaczone. Jak dla mnie to powinien się trochę bardziej postarać. Co do wątku kryminalnego to w sumie od razu podejrzewałam tę osobę. Znaczy tę, która próbowała zabić Dani. To co mi się podobało to fakt że chłopaki zaakceptowali dziewczynę i faktycznie się nią opiekowali. Pewnie sięgnę po kolejne części z ciekawości jak potoczą się dalsze loty reszty odmieńców.

Bastante entretenido
Me encanto la primera parte, la segunda no tanto por todos los plot twist pero estuvo bastante bien.
No le tenía fe porque la sinopsis era muy parecida a la del primer libro de la trilogía de Rixon Raiders, pero definitivamente este libro es mucho mejor.
Si bien el pairing es de enemies to lovers, no es taaaaaan enemies y más lovers, pero ey! No me quejo
Si bien tiene drama, lo que más me gusto fue que, en el típico cliché de que el prota masculino hace algo horrible para proteger a la MC, la autora no se tomo diez mil páginas de miscommunication for the sake of the drama…
Pero pero perooooo…. Si siento que estuvo un poquitin largo.

Boże jakie to było dobre ja nie mogę. Pojebane ale bardzo dobre. Jedna z najlepszych książek jakie ostatnio przeczytałam. Ilość zwrotów akcji ogromna i jeszcze te zwrotu były tak dobre że na nie mogę. Uwielbiam tych bohaterów i ogólnie kocham tą historię

To było coś! Wciągnęła mnie od pierwszych stron. Raaanyy ile tu było zwrotów akcji. Ja już w pewnym momencie podejrzewałam wszystkich! 😄 Dla osób, które zaczytują się w tego typu książkach może nie zrobić aż tak wielkiego wrażenia jak na mnie, ale na pewno jest to coś, co wpada w pamięć. Mega spodobało mi się przedstawienie historii w tych dwóch timeline’ach. A Gage to mój nowy książkowy mąż. Tak kochanego i oddanego mężczyzny to ja dawno w książce nie widziałam. Cute af! Totalnie NIEEE MOGĘ SIĘ DOCZEKAĆ 2 i 3 TOMU, bo pokochałam całą tę (ociupinkę mroczną) rodzinę.

What a fantastic start to Wicked West Rejects! A rejigged Wizard of Oz story.
I honestly couldn't put this down! It's thrilling and suspenseful, you're on the edge of your seat from start to finish! The first chapter, you're biting your nails straight into the action, then it flips you way back yo the beginning. I loved this bit, it's heartbreaking as much as it's heartwarming. The meeting of our main characters as you can imagine it's not all smooth sailing, love at first sight.
I loved Dani (Dorothy Ann), shes a little bit frightened and a lot broken, she grows so much over the story. You just want her to stand out and be the queen shes meant to be! When she meets the rest of the WWR's they don't make it easy for her at first.
You'll love Gage, hes the quiet and broody badboy who lets no one but the guys in, but the second he sets eyes on Dani he knows theres something special about her. He's so endearing. You want wrap that boy up in your arms and warm his cold heart right up!
Theres also a whole cast of villains for you to hate. Trust me you will hate more than others. This is right up there with my favorite parts. I love a villain and i was kept guessing the whole way through as to who the worst one was! I admit i snook a look at the ending about half way through because it was killing me to know! Lol but the funny thing was even that didn't give it me all, i just had to carry on reading to see it all unfold.
Utterly spellbinding! Loved every single moment of reading it! I'm desperate for the next two books! I'm even willing to wait for more next gen Gentry books in order to get these two! I need Micah and Conner happy!

So Gage and Dani don't exactly have the best first meeting. She is new to the household and Gage and his two cousins do not treat her very well. Dani has been living with her uncle since her mother abandoned her. He has now married Matilda, who is wealthy and as fake as they come. Dani tries to adjust and finds herself drawn to Gage. He starts to like her and then finds himself protecting her and loving her. Enter one of the villains of the story, his father, and he is forced to leave for 8 years. Dani knows nothing of the real reason for him leaving. Then Dani finds herself being targeted and is almost murdered several times. He then get another villain who is exposed for all of the evil deeds that have been done over the years. If that wasn't enough, another villain is exposed and we find out even more deeds that were beyond the pale. It was a bit much for one story. I don't know why there had to be such a long separation for these 2. It seemed excessive and Dani becoming the focus of the ire of several of the people in this book just didn't make sense. I wanted to like the book more, but all of the drama took away from it for me. Did enjoy the ending for these 2 though.

I enjoyed this book and thought it got this new series off to a very intriguing start. This series is a gritty and twisty take on The Wizard of Oz, and I found it entertaining and enticing. There are many shadows of the original tale here and many comparisons to be made. Honestly, I think if you focus on doing that, you'll get kind of bogged down. I know I did. This is really very much its own story and I highly recommend you go into it with that in the forefront of your mind. Dani and Gage were easy to like, and I loved them as a couple. Their attraction and chemistry was powerful and irresistible. This book lays a lot of groundwork and introduces a wide array of characters. Some of them you will love and want much more of and others you will definitely be giving the side eye. The story is a smart, skillfully crafted blend of emotions, drama, tension, twists, intensity, sweetness, heartache, action and suspense that is incredibly tantalizing. I am very excited to read more of this series. This is my frank, freely posted review.

The book is split, 8 years before when they first meet Dani, and then the 8years later when they the four are back face-to-face.
The guys are family, cousins but more like brothers and their parents are most definitely a messed up bunch!
Dani appears when her uncle marries Michas mum, the boys who start out just ignoring her, she's noone to them but it's not long until they gel and her and Gage become a couple.
All's sunshine and rainbows until Cage turns his back on them and disappears!
8years later and he's back and it's kinda sad because they deserve a far better family that they got.
But they're strong, faces with hard times they still soldier on, I'm excited for Conner and Micah's stories!

I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I just know after reading Hateful that I'm going to devour the rest of this series. Gage is truly unique his personality and traits there not won over by just anyone. But I absolutely love this man and his two cousins. I also love Dani, she's kind caring but also full of sass. The connection these four share is truly unbreakable I would say lots of people are jealous of this type of bond. But these four haven't always been this way, there journey is an interesting one i devoured from start to finish. I can't wait Micah he just intrigues me and Conner I just love his goofy self.

I received this as an ARC copy and its nothing but awesome. Very well written with a grippimg storyline, with its modern take on Wizard of Oz it will leave you needing the next installment of this new series. Cora never disappoints with her story telling

I just couldn't hold my attention with this book. I read until the end to give it a chance but I lost interest in it. Characters were bland. The entire high school flashback was dry, unfulfilling. When you caught back up the the intro it continued to run circles with no point.

“Znienawidzony” jest przepięknie wydaną powieścią spod pióra Cory Brent, która niejednokrotnie zachwyciła mnie losami Gage oraz Dani. Pozycja jest pierwszym tomem serii książek "Odmieńcy z West Emerald" po którą sięgnęłam przez ogromną ciekawość, która powstała przez dobrą promocję nowej serii.

To było moje pierwsze spotkanie z twórczością autorki i mam nadzieję, że nie ostatnie. Niesamowicie spodobał mi się jej styl pisania. Nawet nie poczułam, kiedy pochłonęłam książkę, a zajęło mi to dokładnie jeden wieczór. Czytając, bawiłam się bardzo dobrze, jeśli mam nie wliczać w to załamań związanych ze zwrotami akcji. Niesamowicie się ucieszyłam, kiedy okazało się, że w historii występują dwie narracje. A pomysł z dwoma linami czasu, sprawił, że miałam możliwość lepszego poznania bohaterów, tego co nimi kieruje, a także osób, które odegrały istotną rolę w ich późniejszym życiu.
Bohaterów polubiłam od samego początku tych pierwszo i drugoplanowych. Tajemniczość i niedoskonałość. którą się otaczali sprawiła że chciałam poznać ich bardziej. W szczególności miałam ogromną ochotę zapoznać się z relacją męskich postaci; Gage, Micah i Conner. Nie dawało mi spokoju chęć rozpracowania tego, co sprawiło, że zaczęli traktować się jak bracia. A kiedy w końcu odkryłam mroczne sekrety trójki kuzynów, nie miałam więcej pytań.
Głównym elementem fabuły jest relacja Gage i Dani, która wielokrotnie sprawiła, że moje emocje szalały. Wielokrotnie, nawet podczas pisania tej recenzji, pojawiają mi się łzy w oczach, kiedy myślę o tym co przeszła główna bohaterka. Mimo młodego wieku wiele wycierpiała, a przeprowadzka, zamiast polepszyć sytuację, z początku przysporzyła nowych problemów. W końcu w relacji enemies to lovers nie może być kolorowych początków.
Gage - chłopak bez serca. Ale czy na pewno? Zamknięty w sobie, owiany mrokiem i tajemnicami, trzymający się tylko swoich braci. Przeszłość, którą poznajemy w pierwszej części historii, chwyta za serce. Jednak czy strach przed tym co może nadejść usprawiedliwia jego czyny? Dlaczego mimo swojej opiekuńczości wobec bliskich stał się tytułowym znienawidzonym?
Miłość dla niego była czymś toksycznym i wyniszczającym. Jednak pewnej dziewczyny udało się zburzyć mur, którym się otaczał. Dziewczynie, która w jego życiu pojawiła się niespodziewanie, rujnując znaną codzienność.
Historia wielokrotnie mnie zaskoczyła i to w pozytywny sposób. Z początku myślałam, że nie polubię Micah oraz Connera. Jednak z czasem, z którym Dorothy Ann zdobywała ich lojalność i zaufanie, zyskali moją sympatię. Przez oprawę graficzną spodziewałam się historii pełnej mafii czy innych nielegalnych działalności. Jednak się myliłam, wątek mafijny jest bardzo minimalny, jakby w ogóle nie istniał. Jedynie odgrywa istotną rolę od połowy książki, co mnie pozytywnie zaskoczyło.

Miłość dla niego była czymś toksycznym i wyniszczającym. Jednak pewnej dziewczyny udało się zburzyć mur, którym się otaczał. Dziewczynie, która w jego życiu pojawiła się niespodziewanie, rujnując znaną codzienność.
Historia wielokrotnie mnie zaskoczyła i to w pozytywny sposób. Z początku myślałam, że nie polubię Micah oraz Connera. Jednak z czasem, z którym Dorothy Ann zdobywała ich lojalność i zaufanie, zyskali moją sympatię. Przez oprawę graficzną spodziewałam się historii pełnej mafii czy innych nielegalnych działalności. Jednak się myliłam, wątek mafijny jest bardzo minimalny, jakby w ogóle nie istniał. Jedynie odgrywa istotną rolę od połowy książki, co mnie pozytywnie zaskoczyło.

Powieść „Znienawidzony” to pierwszy tom serii „Odmieńcy z West Emerald”. Kiedy otrzymałam propozycję jej zrecenzowania, opis zaintrygował mnie na tyle, że nie mogłam odmówić sobie możliwości sprawdzenia twórczości nowej na polskim rynku autorki.
Książka składa się z dwóch części, które dzieli ośmioletni przeskok czasowy. Bardzo lubię motyw spotkania po latach i drugiej szansy, a tutaj akurat autorka poprowadziła ten wątek w przyjemny dla mnie sposób. Były emocje, ból i próba odkupienia win.
Przyznam się szczerze – sądziłam, że będę mieć do czynienia z romansem mafijnym. Być może to mój błąd albo niedopatrzenie, ale mimo wszystko się na niego nastawiłam. Mamy za to zagadkę kryminalną, tyle że w moim odczuciu było jej trochę za mało, jak na taką objętość książki. Czegoś mi tu zabrakło. Owszem prolog kończy się nieprzewidywalnie, co rzeczywiście już na samym początku obudziło we mnie zaciekawienie, które towarzyszyło niemal do końca. Chciałam odkryć, co doprowadziło do tej sytuacji i kto poluje na Dani. Końcówka okazała się zaskakująca i to oceniam na plus, bo po drodze autorce udało się nas nieco zmanipulować.

Jednak, gdy wujek dziewczyny, po latach wspólnego życia tylko we dwójkę, wiąże się z inną kobietą, której świat obraca się w luksusie i dobrobycie, ich dotychczasowe życie zmienia się o 180°. Wraz z przeprowadzką do domu kobiety, dziewczyna poznaje trzech kuzynów Silvestro, z czego jeden z nich - Micah - ma zostać jej przybranym bratem. Trójka chłopaków nie ułatwia Dani przystosowania się do życia w nowych warunkach i nowym, zupełnie obcym otoczeniu.
Micah, Conner i Gage stali się dla dziewczyny pewnego rodzaju wrogami. Zdawali się mieć władzę nad jej małym, skromnym światem, jednak w tym wszystkim popełnili błąd - nie docenili jej oraz umiejętności, jakie posiadała.

Dani&Gage matko jak ja pokochałam ich historie❤️🩹.Od samego początku książka WCIĄGA nie ma mowy, ze muszę przemęczyć się 60 stron żeby zaczęło się cokolwiek dziać.Uwielbiam takich serii początki(czyt.1tomy) jak to wszystko się zaczyna także jestem na 99%, ze ten tom będzie ulubionym chociaz nie mogę się doczekać drugiego tomu(tess&micah💗).Nie wiem czy kiedykolwiek czytałam książkę gdzie dosłownie każdy w rodzince jakiś jebniety byl no dosłownie nawet nie z krwi bo to nawet byli mężowie tych siostrXD Najbardziej nienormalna i dysfunkcyjna rodzinka😚

Hateful is an understatement yet a perfect title at same time.
The beginning started slow for me but I have read every book Cora Brent has written in this genre. I was confident the plot would grip me at some point.
That bit of suspense, not knowing if the next page was going to be the turning point made this story that much more suspenseful for me. And once I turned that corner it was a binge read race to the end. The level of hatred, shadiness and tragedy that plagues this family is staggering. How these people continue to co exist is remarkable. As soon as the “Wicked West Rejects” was formed I was instantly rooting for each member. The source of hatred that darkens each characters heart is a layer of drama that will leave you guessing in many different directions as you try to determine who the real monster is and if there is more than one. As always, I can’t wait for the next story. Read this book you won’t be disappointed.
