The Holt Agency is a spinoff from Becca Jameson’s and KaLyn Cooper’s Shadow SEALs books. The group of rescued SEALs have opened their own agency.
Colette, a PhD student studying abroad, is tired of the constant barrage of bodyguards her father has assigned to her for most of her life. As a politician, his notoriety has always put her at risk. When Colette finds out she’s pregnant, she’ll do anything to keep her baby a secret, even from her father.
Tavis is a former Navy SEAL. He’s not a babysitter. But when the Secretary of State hires you to guard his daughter, no is not an acceptable answer. Starting a relationship with the woman he’s supposed to protect would get him fired. It would also leave her vulnerable.
Falling for each other was never the plan. Tavis’s protective instinct has him questioning the course of his life. Colette has a lot of decisions to make, none of them easy. The challenges could either tear them apart or bring them closer together. And when Colette's life is threatened, Tavis must not only protect her, but their chance at a future together.
Becca Jameson is a USA Today bestselling author of over 100 books. She is most well-known for her Wolf Masters series and her Fight Club series. She currently lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and Goldendoodle. Two grown kids pop in every once in a while too! She is loving this journey and has dabbled in a variety of genres, including paranormal, sports romance, military, and BDSM.
A total night owl, Becca writes late at night, sequestering herself in her office with a glass of red wine and a bar of dark chocolate, her fingers flying across the keyboard as her characters weave their own stories.
During the day--which never starts before ten in the morning!--she can be found jogging, running errands, or reading in her favorite hammock chair!
You know how you read a romance and think, “oh boy—the author’s going to draw out this plot point ad nauseum for DRAMA”? Becca Jameson subverts all those unfortunate traps with Rescued. Every time she’d bring up some trope of romance and I’d think to myself, “ok—the plot’s now going to go *this*way” she’d turn around and make the plot go *that* way. And I loved it.
Colette and Tavis are two inherently smart people who *communicate* with one another. Yes, there are moments when they hold things back, but they don’t last half so long and painfully as they do in other romance novels. Yes, Rescued features a bunch of tried-and-true romance tropes, but Jameson never uses them to draw out the plot unnecessarily. Rescued is a bit of a cabin romance as Tavis is Colette’s bodyguard during her internship in Uganda, and being far away from everyone both of them know drives them together. Add to it that Colette needs a bodyguard in the first place because as the U.S. secretary of state’s daughter she’s been threatened before, and you’ve got the underlying tension that drives this story—is Colette safe…or not?
Both characters come across so well in this book. They make mistakes and they misjudge, but they’re also honest about their feelings and recognize that people do err at times. The setting in Uganda was fascinating if isolated—because this is a cabin romance, neither Colette nor Tavis really interact with anyone local, and I would have liked to have seen a bit of that in the secondary characters.
But this was an unexpected romance in the way it avoided all the traditional romance pitfalls. It’s a lovely read by Jameson.
This was a okay story. The h was the daughter of the Secretary of State and the H was a bodyguard. Travis, the H is charged with looking after Collette, the h, when she goes to Uganda to do research while pursuing her PhD studies. They really was no built to the love story between the two main characters. No chemistry. Also, the conversation between them was weird. Th is supposed to be a PhD candidate but how she spoke did not give that. SPOILERS: The night before she left for Uganda because she was mad at her dad she went out with friends who we find out later are not even really close friends. While out she get so drunk that she sleeps with some random guy that she don’t even have a name or don’t even know how he looks. No protection used and the one night stand results in a pregnancy. Again, if you are out with people that are not that close friends you will not drink to get pissing drunk that your feet are dragging on the ground when you walk. I hated the pregnancy for the H. He seemed like a nice guy. Obviously he supports her and takes on the baby as his. I guess this pregnancy was used as an angst. I just didn’t like how it was used especially when it was cleared up with who the father was etc. It was way too clean a resolution.
4+ Stars ⭐⭐⭐🌟 RESCUED has Tavis Neade serving as a protector, which he doesn’t really want to do, and Colette Loughlin being protected, which she really doesn’t want. Do you see the potential for this story right there?! Although there’s conflict at the beginning, there’s also a spark of interest, which continues to grow more than the conflict. Waiting for that spark to eventually combust will certainly hold your interest, as well as trying to figure out if there’s really a threat to Colette’s safety and if so, where it’s coming from. (Not sure that question really gets answered.)
As to be expected, Tavis is strong and self-assured, providing a stable influence on Colette. Although Colette is determined to achieve her life’s goals on her own, she is not so self-assured, often allowing concerns for others’ influences to cloud her judgment. They are characters who play well off each other, and the slow(ish) build of their personal relationship (as well as the potential threat to Colette's safety) adds just the right touch of anticipation. This is a guaranteed enjoyable read with well-drawn characters and a fast-paced storyline that is sure to keep you involved from start to finish.
The Holt Agency is made up of former Navy SEALs who after being held prisoners, were medically discharged and decided to form a protection agency. Tavis Neade is one of these men. When he’s assigned to be the bodyguard to the daughter of the Secretary of State, he’s not happy. Babysitting a spoiled woman is not his cup of tea. What he never expected was to meet Colette Loughlin, a 27 year old PHD student who has no interest in politics or her parents wealth. In the midst of the unknown danger, feelings develop, but Tavis is determined to stay professional. A surprise pregnancy throws Colette off but Tavis will do everything in his power to protect and support Colette. Will he be able to keep her safe? Will Colette realize that he is not only her friend, but also her future? This was a sweet and touching story with an engaging plot and interesting characters. I have to confess that I did go back and re-read Ajax’s and Ryker’s stories in Shadow SEALs in order to enjoy more their involvement in this new series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
An enjoyable well written read, wonderful characters and a plot that will hold you riveted to the story
Colettte has not had a free life she has been constantly followed around by numerous bodyguards because of her father’s profession as a politician and she has recently discovered that she is pregnant, this is a secret she has to guard with her life.
A Navy SEAL by the name of Travis is hired to guard the daughter of the Secretary of State and he knows that he not allowed to touch, a slip-up would lose him his job and and she would have no protection.
However as can so often happen Travis and Colette find that their feelings have changed for each other and Travis knows he should adhere to the rules he agreed to, however he knows that he has feelings for her and that he wants to spend his life with her if possible.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Becca Jameson and KaLyn Cooper are at it again. If you enjoyed Shadow in the Desert and Shadow in the Mountain, you met the men of The HOLT AGENCY.
Tavis was about to board a plane home from Uganda when his boss Ajax calls and tells him to stay put. His next assignment was arriving the next day. The Secretary of State's daughter is working on her PhD in epidemiology, and she isn't pleased about her father's interference by getting her a bodyguard. As such she's flying in with quite the hangover from the night out with friends.
Colette was used to her father's heavy handedness and wasn't going to be a cooperative subject. The first thing she does is sneak out early that first morning. Much to Tavis' dismay and guilt at falling asleep.
When she shows up before he can go out after her, there's quite the conversation.
What Colette didn't expect is an unfortunate outcome to her wild night on the town or her attraction to her bodyguard.
This is quite the tale, filled with intrigue, romance and surprises!
I know for a fact I will be getting the next book in this series. As two of my favorite authors I can't wait to read what KaLyn Cooper has in mind and Becca does next.
Travis a former Navy Seal now employed with Holt Security is in Uganda at the airport ready to fly home after his rescuing mission of locating a partying college boy who hasn’t called or answered his wealthy parents calls in Uganda while traveling abroad, answering his cell phone Travis finds out he has another job in Uganda. “This case is different. And the college student is actually a PhD candidate. She’s not a girl. She’s a woman. And she’s not missing. She’s on her way there.” Then why do you need me? Because her father is the Secretary of State, and he wants her to have a bodyguard. I’m not a bodyguard. I find people, rescue them. I know. But he’s desperate. Why is he desperate? Something about this assignment felt off. This is The Very Basic Beginning to a wonderfully written Suspenseful Romantic love story. I could not put down..
If you like strong stubborn but at the time sweet characters then this is the book for you. "Rescued" by Becca Jameson has it. I absolutely adored this book. Tavis Tavis Neade got hired on as Colette Loughlin's bodyguard during her six month stay in Uganda. Collette has gone through a lot of bodyguards from her overprotective father who is Secretary of State. However these two don't expect to fall for each other and an unexpected event occurred. A blessing but shocking pregnancy. Collette has a one night stand before arriving in Uganda but that is not how she normally is. She was upset with her father controlling her with having a bodyguard that she snuck out and got drunk. When Collette meets Tavis there is an attraction from both. I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed reading this book. I cannot wait for more.
I was given an advanced reader copy this book for my honest review.
This book is a great start to a new series. Colette is not only a PhD candidate she is also THE Secretary of State's daughter. She is full of p*** and vinegar and does not like "babysitters". Travis is about to leave Uganda when he is handed the new assignment...protect/babysit Colette. These two get off on the wrong foot but very quickly their relationship turns into more. Travis does not want to cross that line, but not only is he falling deep there are other forces at play and he needs to dig deep to protect her. I love the way these two go back and forth with each other. The tension is huge! Will things work out or will an unknown force take Colette? Well, there is an HEA but holy cow at the journey!
This is the first book in a new series, Holt Agency, and it's off to a great start. The characters of Colette and Tavis were wonderful together and as the twists start happening, I really sympathised with Colette in such a messy situation. Tavis was adorable as the scary ex-SEAL bodyguard who really just has a heart of marshmallow. The drama and twists were interesting and while it didn't fit what I thought was going to happen, proves that drama can be just as much about what doesn't happen as it is about what does. This book is standalone with its own HEA and no ongoing story arc. Amazon tells me that this is book 1 of 2 but I think it would be a shame if this series were to finish so quickly.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Rescued . I found this story to be sensational . It is well written and the characters are fantastic .Tavis Neade works for The Holt Agency he is assigned to accompany Collette Loughlin daughter of the Secretary of State . Collette is working on her doctorate in Epidemiology and is headed to Uganda for the next six months . Tavis and Collette struggle in the beginning but soon find themselves growing closer and falling for each other . Travis would do anything for Collette and soon is put to the test as Collette finds herself in real danger . This story is absolutely wonderful .I highly recommend taking the time to read .
Colette goes out of the country as part of her studies. When she meets Tavis, who’s assigned as her security, she’s irritated that her father is once again being over protective. She has to admit he’s definitely attractive. Tavis knows he’s in trouble deep when he catches sight of Colette—she’s walking trouble. As he struggles to maintain his professionalism, she doesn’t make it easy. When an unidentified threat comes along, as well as a very unexpected surprise, these two have much to sort out, not the least of which is just where are they going with this massive attraction.
Colette has had bodyguards most of her life as her father is Secretary of State. She’s studying abroad and Tavis is a former Navy Seal and is hired by her father to keep her protected. He doesn’t want to babysit but after being around her things happen! Can he keep her safe when they are together or will he have to end it? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
A great start to a new sries. A well written story with great characters. Collette is sassy and independent. Tavis works for Holt security he is sent to be a body guard or babysitter as he puts it. This story holds your attention from the start. I can't wait to read more. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
Rescued by Becca Jameson is a fantastic read. Travis and Colette's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. Rescued is book 1 of the Holt Agency but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What an awesome start to this series, Travis doesn't really want this job babysitting (as he calls it) until he meets Colette. I didn't see the bad guy but was shocked by who it wasn't.
Travis and Collette two worlds, strange circumstance bring two people together. Un known danger, blackmail and a protective father had them colliding in oh such a good way cant wait to read more
When Collette celebrates a little too much before flying to Uganda to work on her PhD little does she know that her bodyguard arranged by her Secretary of State father won't go away not matter how much she tries to ditch him. When she finds out she's pregnant she wants to keep it a secret from everyone. But Tavis will surprise her and step up to not only protect her but take the responsibility of raising the child. Can she accept his proposal?
I loved how the author made you feel like you were on the Safari with Collette and Tavis in Uganda making see everything through their eyes.
Collette is the only daughter of the Secretary of State. He smothers her with security and she just wants to be left alone. She is working on her Ph.D and is going to Uganda to gather more information and to teach at the university. Enter Travis from the Holt Agency who just finished a job in Uganda and is tasked with watching after Collette who is reluctant to have a “body guard.” Their encounters from beginning to end are explosive.
I loved Colette & Tavis's story. I enjoyed learning more about the Seals of the Holt Agency, and and can't wait for more. Thanks, Becca, for a great story.
Lovely story about a former SEAL turned private security guy who falls in love with the woman he has to protect. Plot has some unforeseeable twists and turns that make a real interesting story great!
Wonderful story. The intricate plot of blackmail and kidnapping made this story interesting and intriguing. The ending was heartwarming and heart felt.
If Rescued is any indication, Becca Jameson's new Holt Agency series is going to be an all around Winner. While it's not necessary, I suggest you read Shadow in the Desert for context and some character backgrounds. It'll be worth your while.
Babysitting/bodyguarding another college student is not what Tavis Neade signed up for but he's a good soldier and follows orders even if he doesn't like them. What he wasn't anticipating was a beautiful, sassy, smart mouthed woman who wants a bodyguard about as much as he wants to be to be one. Colette Loughlin, whose life has been carefully and strategically planned out, finds her plans irrevocably altered because of a frivilous lapse in judgement. She has no idea just how important having Tavis in her life will become. Every woman needs a little bit of a Tavis Neade in her life. Yes, he's a former SEAL which makes him a skilled Alpha protector but he's also solicitous, caring, and a problem solver. Keeping Collette safe is paramount. Having her in his life forever is non-negotiable.
Recused is Becca Jameson first book of her new series about the men of the Holt Agency. This is Tavis and Colette’s love story. Tavis a former Navy Seal is assigned to protect Colette who is the daughter of a politician well she studies abroad. From the moment they meet there an intense attraction. This is a beautifully written story. I can not wait to read the next book in the series.
What a great start to the new series. I love it. Tavis is supposed to be a bodyguard for Colette who is the Secretary of State's daughter. Colette thinks her father is just overprotective. The night before she leaves the US, her father tells her she will have a bodyguard while she is in Uganda for the next six months. Her dad will not say if there is a specific threat they need to be on the lookout for, so they do deep dive into everything trying to figure it out. How do you protect someone from a threat when you don't know what the threat is? Then someone ransacks their apartment while they are away for the weekend so Tavis stays closer than he was to keep her safe. They soon realize she has consequences to her one-night stand before she left and once they figure out who he was they find out he died in a drunk driving car accident the night she left. Can Tavis keep her safe from an unknown threat? What will happen when she comes home six months pregnant? How will she be able to continue pursuing her PHD with having to take care of the baby?
