Yeah, DNF at like 20%. I'm sorry author and obvious huge fan base, this one was not for me.

I was willing to suspense reality when I went into this, cause hello, warlock/fae/shifter but as SOON as the two MCs met, one who was a part time firefighter and financial analyst (cause sure), met his 'One' he was all, "gtg bossman, I met my person and we need to go bone right now!" And everyone was like sure, sure...forget working! you've got to mate. And of course the fae is a virgin and insta love has him rubbing up against a person he just met in a reality he's never been to before.

I wanted more magic and world building and character development. This seems like a pretty insta-love world that it's fans love and most are already familiar with. I would tell other readers that if you want to read this book, but are unfamiliar with the author to go back to the original series because I felt cheated out of the world building process.

There’s no character development other than that they exist before they meet by chance and then insta-love-fated-mates have a baby. There is nothing else of substance to this story. Nothing happens other than a pregnancy and snow.

Half a star because they eat pizza and I like pizza.

I have this lingering question that is never answered. Cornelius is a warlock that can just magic into existence anything at all. A coat on his back, a cup of tea, dry hair after a bath. So why does he shop online?

Another mpreg I just couldn't get myself to like. The whole story seemed to focus on finding their mates then sex then pregnant and then baby is born. Ta da very original.

I liked it, can't say I love it. I was going to start the vampires of the beloved gem series, only to feel that the plot started elsewhere, and matching the dots to the first chapters and names I came here. And while I also feel this series started elsewhere (either in the timber valley or the honey creek den) I'm not going to go look or start further behind. At least here I understood enough.
Though I would appreciate hearing somewhere that this is a sequel series and to what series, because it very much acts like one. We have established worlds, patterns, magics, and all that jazz. We don't really get explanations of anything, really, except some of the ways of life of the fae. So I guess they're new? We also get little introduction to most characters, so they must have been presented elsewhere. Again, except for Matthew, because he's new in the Taylor Rylan expanded literary universe. I would very much appreciate if we got stuff explained to us, because warlocks seem all powerful and limitless and I need more clarification on them. And fae too, to be honest.
As per the book itself, it was fine. I do wish we'd gotten more growing pains if we have an instalove match, they seem to go perfectly almost immediately. And maybe some time before the baby to iron themselves as a couple. I think that was also a complaint of mine with the timber wolves? I do believe I haven't read honey creek, though. Then again, some people love things as is.

I don't know why, but something was off about this whole book.

Here we have a warlock, Cornelius who is helping out a group far away from his coven and Matthew, a fae who just literally walked away from the fae world with the clothes on his back cause I think the fates person told him to. That part was not explained very well. It was also mentioned a lot that fae and warlocks just don't mate.

Anyways, these two spot each other and it's instamates and instalove. Daddy Warlock is over three hundred years old but Matthew is young and has never been with anyone. They figure it out and the young fae gets pregnant immediately.

Daddy Warlock had decided to go back home so after a failed sightseeing tour, end up back there. For some reason, Matthew is really scared of this one warlock but I honestly did not know why until near the end.

Things work out and the baby is birthed through the seam (sidenote, just no. push that sucker out) and everything is all honky dory.

I do not know what was going on with Michael Ferraiuolo's voices here. I am such a fan that I buy unknown writers books just to hear him but the accents were all over the place and what was up with the way Balthazar sounded?

This book is ALL OVER THE PLACE... I can't believe I managed to finish it, or finish it without a permanent palm print on my forehead.

So... let me try and put this in a simple and short review.

The magic system basically exists for characters to do whatever it is the author wanted them to do without any sense or reason. Warlocks here can decorate room or make food items appear in the blink of an eye process of creation of those items be damned.

Dialogues, descriptions, narration in general are full of unnecessary, tacky, redundant and/or non-sensicle lines. I swear I was one more "You're my One" or an "I love you, you're my One and I would do anything for you" from killing someone, cause yeah, that's how much the author used those in EVERY CHAPTER.

Romance sucked as well, by the way. It felt slow at times because nothing happened relationship and plot wise but also stupidly fast the rest of the times. I'm not a fan of insta-love but I agree with insta-attraction, my problem with this is it felt fake, forced and at times ridiculous.

Last but no least. The plot is lack luster in a level I hadn't read before. Even the blurb was a red hering!!! Cause there's not really any drama or real reason why they can't be together... it's all just a F*CKING MISUNDERSTANDING!!! And after reading pages and pages and pages of this without anyone addressing the issue I knew what was coming and still was extremely annoyed (not disappointed) by how much of a let down it was.

I haven't read previous books by this author, this is the first one but from what I've seen it's actually a pretty recent series and this leads me to believe, until there's a real improvement, I cannot recommend this series or author at all. It was the most frustrating read I've had in a long while... even more so than the last series I read. What a nightmare.

Almost stopped reading after the first few pages. I get that grammar errors happen but this author has several books out. I would think that they would pay a proofreader to weed out things like not when it should’ve been no. It set the tone of the book for me and for a book so short it was like pulling teeth to finish it. I wanted to read the other books the author has written but I don’t think I can handle it because I left a romance book feeling angry.

The story was less than decent and Matthew was annoying and whiny. His constant need for reassurance made him seem weak and that he just lived to serve which I’m not ok with. He gave up his entire life and easily dismissed his family because he did nothing but take care of children so what does the author do, get him pregnant so he can start taking care of his own children. For the character to complain about taking care of his siblings it doesn’t make sense that he would want kids at such a young age.

I did not like this story and will most likely not read any of the other books by this author.

its a 3.5 stars for me! It's way to sweet interactions between the MCs that make me not like the book. I know the insta love between the fated mates but Taylor just makes it sticky sweet. I love the world building of fae and the history of fae and warlocks. I hope the next book is better!

I have a soft spot for Taylors' Supernatural books. So I will continue to follow the series because its' Taylor and also to read more about Edison's coven!

Also ich irgendwie habe ich bei diesem Buch die Story verpennt. Sollte es denn eine gegeben haben. Leider war es wieder nur eine schnelle Geschichte übers Kennenlernen und das Finden des EINEN. Schnell ins Bett gehüpft, schwanger geworden und ewige Liebe gestanden. Aber das war es dann auch schon mit dem Plot. Die Protagonisten sind leider sehr austauschbar geblieben, Hintergrundinformationen dürftig und vage.

Sweet love story

The book was a sweet love story, but that was about it. The mates where sweet and loving. The mating and sexy times were good. I just wished there was a little more to the story.

This was my first Taylor Rylan book and I think it will be my last. I didn't hate it but there was just no substance to the story. Within the first several pages, about 10 different characters are name dropped and I spend the first several chapters confused as to who is who. And while they say the book can be read as a stand-alone, this series is apparently part of several other series that are all interconnected with overlapping characters. TBH that knowledge and the background of those characters seemed rather important.

We meet Cornelius who is obsessed with finding his One, but has absolutely no idea about how things actually work once you apparently meeting said One. Then there is sweet, naive, innocent Matthew who has essentially lived inside a Fae bubble for his 24 years of existence. These two go from literal strangers, to instantaneously in love in a matter of pages. There was no real progression to their relationship, nor any real chemistry between the two. As the story progresses and in theory their relationship, they never really develop any chemistry or deeper connection. 

Past this 'romance' the story had two other branched plot lines that hinted at a deeper narrative but never really addressed. First in the early half of the story, the neighbor Mrs. Page is mentioned numerous times for essentially spying on Cornelius and the residents of the house but nothing ever comes of it. If this woman isn't malicious or anything there was no point in mentioning her stalker ways since it didn't contribute anything to the story line. Secondly, there is the Balthazar thing, who is described as basically being a loner. Over the story he becomes close with Cornelius and Matthew but we never learn anything more about this elusive man.

Overall, I think the main issue was I was bored. The story needed something to carry it outside the romance because Cornelius and Matthew had zero chemistry. Just a whole lot of meh and welp I just wasted my time to read that.

From the blurb, I expected more tension based on the warlock-fae thing, but that was barely a hiccup. In fact, I would hazard that there was zero tension in this book at all - fated mates = instalove, so no real relationship drama either. Matthew is so lovable that he merges in perfectly fine...instant pregnancy...yeah I don't know, there just wasn't much to it. Not even the random nosy neighbor.

The conversations were stilted and extremely repetitive. Actually a lot of the book is extremely repetitive. I skimmed to get through it because I'd hoped for fae-warlock drama, but honestly I still don't totally understand what happened there. Just meh overall.

Super boring sex. Little description and the whole thing is over in a paragraph or two. Which is fine in a story full of world building and plot, but definitely not in a story where the plot is sexy times and you as the reader are literally dumped into what feels like the middle of a series with absolutely no understanding of what is going on.

I mean, why is a warlock moonlighting as a firefighter yet we NEVER hear anything about a relevant fire?

Hard no. So disappointed, I was really hoping to find a new series.

This book barely has a plot. The meet cute was so boring, Matthew just randomly shows up and he senses him. Matthew is annoying and pathetic. Everyone babies him especially Cornelius. The amount of times they ask if he is ok over the smallest things is insane. The entire book summarized is : 200 year old randomly meets 24 year old fae mate that looks like a teenager(problematic in itself). They travel a bit, eat pizza and drink tons of tea, then have a baby. It’s really well written but the story telling and character development is severely lacking.

Sorry, super boring

The beginning showed potential but it became so boring after the couple bump into each other. The whole warlock and fae having some sort of conflict has absolutely NOTHING to do with the story. It’s mentioned after you are 80% through with the book and it’s quickly swept under the carpet.
If you want to read about a happy couple with everything working out for them then I suppose this is your book. I had to fight not to fall asleep reading it, sorry.

Mostly Simple, Mostly Erotica

Framed as the typical large male/small male stereotypes, complete with curly haired short male, there is not much here beyond the sex and MPREG scenes. No plot to speak of, and no character development. Had I not read book 6 first, I definitely would have quit with book 1.

I really couldn't get into this book because I didn't like the style of writing. Personally I thought the use of 'The One' was really irritating and all of these masculine men were actually really feminine. There was no depth to the characters or the storyline, didn't finish it.

I have a bad feeling that this is Mpreg.... authors PLEASE add that tag either on the title or in the synopsis as not everyone is into Mpreg & frankly, I'm one of those who has to be in the right mindset to even contemplate it...




I think I'm in the minority when it comes to listeners as I'm not really a fan of Michael Ferraiuolo.

I don't mind his standard voice too much, but his accents are atrocious & his other voices are not that much better either IMO.

He's a narrator, IMO, who can't be a solo narrator, he's ok when it's dual/duet as he can just do his normal voice.

Because, LORDY... his voice for Matthew, I think the character's name is, is BAD! It sounds like a prepubescent teen 😬 which is NOT appealing in the slightest.

& if this a fantasy book where one is a warlock, the other Fae... WHY does one MC need to be SO young?!?

Why can't they both be similarly aged or as women for reasons that I'll never understand seem to be so enthused about age gaps... one could be 100, the other his nearly 3 century self... that's still an age gap!

& frankly, I'd expect the Fae to be the older one, not the warlock as technically Fae are technically immortal & as they live such long lives, I'd think that parents would keep them under wing for longer than their human counterparts as for an immortal being, 100 would be equivalent to being 21 🤷‍♀️

The first book in this new series, although we meet a lot of characters from Taylor's previous series. Cornelius is a warlock and in search of his One. He comes to help at the Firehouse in Honey Creek but after a couple of months and not sensing his One at all, he and his friend Balthazar decide to go home to Amherst. Matthew is a fae and fed up with looking after his siblings. His mother is pregnant again and living in close quarters with his family has him on edge. Then one day he is thrust outside the realm to find his One. Just as Cornelius is about to turn home, he senses his One. But a fae is not something he was looking out for. Even so, the fates know what they are doing, don't they? And so the story of the Warlocks of Amherst enfold. A story in which a lot of other warlocks will find their One, and we will meet up again with Edison and Wallace and his children and grandchildren. We also get a further peek into the making of Edison and the purpose of the warlocks. I loved all the previous books, and this one continues the magic world of warlocks, shifters, fae and fates. Taylor really has a way of making you addicted to her stories.

Cornelius y Matthew la verdad es que fueron muy lindos y Matthew se sentia muy real, el tipo de chico que fácilmente todos conocemos, por su historia familiar y todo eso. Sin embargo el unico punto negativo que le doy es que aunque eran super lindos juntos los dos, la verdad no senti tanta quimica entre los dos como lo senti entre otras parejas en otras sagas, se que se querian y se amaban pero por alguna razón no termine de enganchar con el libro y siempre senti que algo me hacia falta entre ellos. Igual punto extra para el hecho de que mostraron una reacción mas real al tener hijos, que no es tan facil y es un proceso doloroso y que muchas personas por esa razón deciden ya no tener mas hijos despues del primero justo como a este par le paso. En conclusion fue un buen libro, me entretuvo y la autora escribe de una forma muy tierna y acogedora a las parejas siempre.

I liked that we are starting to get a glimpse into the warlocks of Amherst, but this found this book to be a bit lackluster. Matthew is warned to trust that he is Cornelius’ One, even when he doubts, and yet, I didn’t see an instance of that doubt ever surfacing. He claims to have felt it later on, but there wasn’t any evidence.

I also wish that there was some kind of outside impetus to bring these warlocks along in their matings. This story was just a nice, sweet fated mating, with no drama, no tension, and an irrational fear that was solved with a simple conversation.
