Why can’t I stay away from the Vampire King?

I thought if I kept my head down and ignored the supernatural drama, I’d make it to the solstice and finally get free of Lost Harbor.

Instead, the dead vampires were just the beginning.

Something even worse has come to town and I’m forced to choose between the life I think I want and the male who has my heart.

Any choice I make feels like the wrong one.

This is book 2 of the Royal Blood Series. It is not a standalone. This book contains violence, steam, and mature themes.

Book 1 blurb stated that this would be a trilogy story, but with conclusion of this book it feels like it done. This story got dropped a star for attention to detail. Ashley’s name was misspelled as Ashely for 50% of book. In book 1 Jimmy was the name of the shift Isla killed..in this book he is referred to as James…another was Isla was called Ivy by Maddie in conversation…just little things but enough to knock me out of story…I also felt that Isla had a lot of the TSTL moments in this story especially for a smart girl. And sad for losing a lovable character…

Obession & Hunger

If you love vampires and shifters then this is a good fast read. I read both books one and two of the series in one day. Dante & Isla make a great couple. They just weren’t together in the book long enough.

Hunger is the second book in Alexis Calder's Royal Blood series and I loved it. While I don't know if the series is concluding I believe this book wraps up Isla's story and does a really good job of it.

This book started off as a dumpster fire. Once again Isla finds herself in the middle of everything and I don't know how she manages it but she keeps getting in deeper. The more she sees the more she is figuring out, uncovering secrets, and finding out the truth about her past. Through all these experiences Isla starts to become self-aware as she evaluates her life. By the end, Isla has grown and come to appreciate what she has in life.

The plot was great, some really shady stuff was uncovered, I got a better understanding of Henry and I have to say he might be a better person than I originally thought. The witches had a bigger part in this book than they had during the previous book and Dante's past is revealed. There was also crazy relationship drama and a complex villain who surprised me on a few levels but was still batty.

Hunger was a great read. The story was a quick and fun little read filled with drama, secrets, and a had even a little heartache. However, Isla manages to overcome all that stood in her way to get a happy ending. I have no idea if the series will continue focusing on another couple or not, what I do know is that I would find it interesting to see Lost Harbor after the events in this book. Only time or Alexis will tell.

This could have been really good but the author didn’t seem to remember details from the first book when she wrote this one. In Obsession, the alpha Henry 1.) always spelled his name HENRY and not sometimes HERNY, (once is a type-o whereas several times is several mistakes), and 2.) very clearly slaps the FMC across the face while she is sitting at her desk and it’s also said that he beat her as a child, yet in Hunger she states that he’d never mistreated her. SMH! The misspelled name thing also happened with Ashley. The roommate also calls the FMC Ivy or Eve once. Then there is the fact that in Obsession Jimmy is Jimmy but in Hunger he is James every time. Does the fact that he’s now dead make it necessary for the pack to use what may be his proper name and not his nickname? There’s also the fact that the lady who helps the FMC towards the end tells her that she hopes she can drive a stick because she was going to drive but when they got to their destination the other woman is driving.

amazing first book then…what happened?!?

Ok spoilers maybe?….

Ok now that is done…what happened?? The first book was amazing with amazing characters and the set up to an amazing story. Then the second book happened…I usually don’t have problems with second books but Hunger had straight up inconsistencies that I just couldn’t get over. Like the main baddie in the first book? Why change his name in the second book? From jimmy then all of a sudden it was James? It took me out of the story completely…and the characters? They kind of fell apart, you could have done so much character development and even made it where there was some epic love triangle moments, but nope. Ryder’s personally kind of did a 360 out of no where and the whole book just felt sloppy and rushed. Honestly really disappointed with it.

Great conclusion but…

This book was littered with typos and grammatical errors. Names were constantly misspelled (Ashley became Ashely, and on at least a half dozen instances) or were completely changed (Matthew became Michael. Jimmy became James. Isla became Ivy). I could understand maybe one or two name mistakes, but a dozen times with multiple characters? And how do you forget your main character’s name? These books take months to complete and you shouldn’t forget your heroine’s name so easily.

Overall, the second book was fantastic. Lots of action, lots of angst, and the steamy scenes were great. If not for the editing errors, this would have easily been a 5⭐️ book for me.

And can we talk about that cover model? Wooo-weee! 🥵

usually i don't like love triangles, but after reading this series, i felt like ryder literally existed to make dante jealous in the first book (and look like the better love interest) because he contributes to almost nothing in this book. which was surprising because i thought he was going to play a more significant role since he was being set up to be the next alpha?

i also really thought that isla was going to be revealed as being part succubus or something because that would literally explain why so many males were drawn to her. but nope she's a kind of witch! and i wish more of her heritage/powers were explored but nope not really, they were just convenient to advance the plot without much explanation.

i was a bit sad when dante's friend (i forget her name) died because she was literally the coolest character and i thought we would learn more about her before her demise? her past gets hinted at by that one witch and so i was eagerly waiting to learn more because her past seems dark, but nope she dies saving dante and does he even mourn her? we never know, despite their centuries of friendship.

i was a little let down by this series because it was rated so highly, but i can't really say much because i devoured both books in one night.

The first book in the series was a pleasant surprise. And I have to highlight surprise because at that time I saw some real potential and I was eagerly expecting the second book to follow in its steps.

Unfortunately, that wasn`t the case. I think what ruined it for me (quite badly) was the interaction between the main love relationship. I found it superficial and badly executed. I wanted to fall in love with them, not to be quickly hurried out the door because they are already a sealed deal and we have to focus on politics and other stuff in that world.

But, you can`t have them all, can you? At least I had my fun with the first book :)

Part of my struggle with this story is Vincent. His plan to rid the world of all vampires did not make sense. Even though he was extremely powerful, how would he know for sure that he exterminated all vampires? The world is a big place…but I think outside of Lost Harbor I have a hard time picturing what this world is. The world building could use more fleshing out.

I’m happy with the way it ended, but I wish there was more. I’d like to see Isla

Excellent follow up to Obsession.
Isla is beginning to realize that the world she thought she lived in, is not what it seemed. She must learn to let others in and protect who she loves.
Her world is under attack and she needs those around her to help protect it.
Mr. Mysterious isn’t so mysterious anymore and he might be the key to her freedom.

I truly wish there was more. I felt a little disappointed that we don’t get a little more about death mages. It was pretty cool for Isla to be something so different. I would have loved to see her come more into her badass powers in a third book.
One weird note is why was Jimmy’s name changed to James and Marcus became Malcom???? Weird..
But I’ve also realized (while these are still great stories) that the author does make quite a few grammatical errors as well. Not a big deal, but just something to know.

The only good thing about this book was that it was short. This is one of the sloppiest written books I’ve ever read. So many questions and contradictions. 1) what did lotus have to do with anything? It was primarily only being sold to humans. Vincent was going after vampires not humans. 2) if Henry was actually a decent person then why did Isla get beaten when she was younger? Why did Henry threaten her? 3) How did Vincent subdue Dante? The two were yelling at each other then all of a sudden Dante passed out. 4) Why did Henry kidnap Anna? Wasn’t Henry supposed to be a good guy? If he was under compulsion wouldn’t Isla be able to tell?
I’ve read two other series by this author and the same thing happened with those series. The first book is good but the second book is a hot mess.

Good, but what’s with all the errors?

Okay so I loved the first book, I thought it was amazing. Don’t get me wrong this book was also great. I love Dante as a love interest and I hope we get more books with him and Isla, who I also loved. This book was good but I hated that there were so many errors. I get that editing errors happen but Jimmy from the first book was James in this book and at one point Isla’s name was Ivy. This one wasn’t as spicy as the first one but I still loved Dante and Isla together. The story was great but the mix ups on the names sometimes took me out of it so I’m rating it 4 stars instead of 5.

could have been better… DNF

I chose 2/5 because this could’ve been written better.
I liked the overall idea of the storyline. It was compelling enough for me to get this 2nd book, after finishing the first one.
I disliked that there was a constant monologue with the MC. It dragged. Her ignorance and indecisiveness was a hard PASS for me. The abrupt attitude changes of the Wolf Alpha and the son was jarring. There could’ve been so much more detail and depth to the characters.
I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a strong storyline, with a developing MC, great side characters, and a well thought out world. *That was not sarcasm*

Obsessive hunger... damn straight!

As I work my way through Alexis Calder's catalog, I fall more in love! Ms. Calder has a way of dragging her readers in, gripping them tight, and throwing them for a hell of a ride!

Ilsa & Dante are the perfect blend of enemies to lovers (sorta), forbidden love, díe and kíll for each other kind of couple.

The use of lotus 🪷 to tie the storyline together was brilliant and, to some degree, relatable. I enjoy the way that Calder uses the stereotypical bits and pieces of supernatural lore mixed with her own bits and pieces.

If you are still reading this review... stop! Go read her books!! 😉

Well done, but stayed pretty PG

I loved the book, I felt the book progressed great and has much opportunity to be expanded on with more detail but I felt that if the other was going to insinuate darkness or violence they could have gone in to more depth
Death is expected while torture takes creativity. It is unique is the still of the setting and structure of the main towns but quite common in the sense that the book is predictable.

As if Isla hadnt been through enough already theres no sign of things settling, between the vampires, witches, wolfs. where will this leave Isla and Vampire king Dante? what will be left of lost harbour? this is book 2 in the series and what a ride of twist, turns, desires action and more!.

I was not sure what to think of this book, it took a little but for me to engage with the characters. I still didn't fully connect with them in the end. However, I enjoyed the plot, even though it seemed a bit rushed. Isla is in the middle of everything in this book, but she learned so much as she moved forward. Zero stars. This book is such a letdown. This was not proof-read at all. The author mixes up the names of two villains “Vincent” is referred to as Victor in some parts of the book and “Matthew” is referred to as Michael. There is a section that repeats itself in the book. No one proofed this book. Sad. Had to put down 70% of the way through. Couldn’t take it anymore. Sad.

I enjoyed the series overall, but be prepared for some editing issues. I would have liked to see the FMC’s powers more fully realized rather than feeling a little like an afterthought. For a romance, I felt surprisingly little investment in whether the MC’s got together. Still, it was an enjoyable read for someone who likes paranormal suspense with a hint of smut.

Very fun story

I’ve enjoyed this story from beginning to end. This story is sexy, entertaining and fun. I’ve enjoyed reading Isla and Dante’s story. Alexis Calder is a wonderful writer with a great imagination. Thank you Alexis and I’m looking forward to reading more of your stories!

Coming into her full self

I am glad that I wasn’t the only one frustrated about what the MC didn’t know about her heritage. She was just as done as I was with all of the secrets and withholding of information she was dealing with. Despite there being a little bit of a sad ending as things tied up, I’m glad how it was wrapped up.

There were a bunch of revelations for secrets to past and so much more. This is a fast paced read that has a lot happening especially in the beginning. It has a great mix of emotions from humor to heartache. It is a fantastic second book in the Royal Blood series. It has been an interesting read.

Generally enjoyed

I really enjoy the story in general, the 1st book too. My biggest issue is the crazy amount of typos and careless mistakes, they made it extremely difficult to read. It was just so annoying.

Good book but the author changed the names during reading which threw me off a bit I had to go back a couple times to make sure I was reading it right or if I missed something.

Amazing Plot

I enjoyed these two books series out of all I have read so far that Alexis has written. I didn't want to put the books down. I really enjoyed the different supernatural beings.. The variety was great. Hope to read more like this!

I loved book 1 but was not a fan of book 2. I feel like everything was rushed and I just hate when the main characters have insta love. They barely speak in the book and are so deeply in love. They just didn’t work for me at all, had no chemistry other than sex.
