Love in Las Vegas #2

The Little Black Book

Rate this book
What do you do when one of your best friends is unlucky in love? You become his wing-woman, obviously…

Sam Simmons has quickly become one of my best friends. We were thrown together when our B.F.F.’s fell in love, and the connection was instant. He’s the yin to my yang. The peanut butter to my jelly. The chocolate to my bacon. Wait…what? Gross.

Anyway, when Sam gets all misty-eyed over his sad, cobweb-filled dumpster fire of a love life, I devise a plan. We’ll go through his little black book––who knew there was an app for that?––and set up second-chance dates with each woman with whom he’s failed at finding love. I’ll be the ultimate wing-woman, a creeper who observes from the sidelines so we can figure out what he’s been doing wrong…

But the plan backfires in a big way, and I’m falling for him. I want him, but if things go sideways, I could lose him, completely.

What am I going to do now?

Piper James lives in Idaho with her husband, two teenage sons, two cats, and a dog.

Her favorite things are romance novels, coffee, potato chips, and her Jeep Wrangler…and her family, of course. Seriously. She loves her family more than coffee and her jeep. *exaggerated wink*

When she’s not writing, she watches ghost shows and spends most of her time trying to convince her family their house is haunted. Because it is.

She wrote YA paranormal romance for 6 years under the name Wendi Wilson before giving into her desire to write spicy romcoms, and it was the best career decision she’s ever made…until she decides to write a book about the ghosts. Because they are definitely real.

I was so excited for this book, after reading the first one in f is series. I fell in love with Sam and Zoey in Sophie and Jarod’s story. And I absolutely loved this one. Zoey and Sam are friends. And when Sam says he’s ready to find love, and doesn’t know why no one wants a second date, he talks Zoey into being his wing woman. To help his figure out if he’s doing something wrong. But these two, have too much chemistry to just be friends. This book drew me in from the start, and I couldn’t put it down. These characters, you love them, and want everything to work out so they can get their happily ever after. And after reading this, I’m dying to read the next book, and find out what’s going on with Ava. Definitely recommend this one, and every other book my this author. They are all funny, and sweet, and have lots of heat.

I was looking forward to reading this next book in the series! Super cute Zoey and Sam have become best friends and when Sam realizes he wants a relationship like his friend Jared, he reaches out to Zoey to help him. Sam has been on a few dates, but can’t figure out why he can’t find love. So, Zoey agrees to be his wing woman and follow him on his dates to figure out what’s going wrong.

The chemistry between these two is BFF perfection. They hang out together, make jokes, and have a genuinely solid friendship. That is, until they both start to realize they may have more romantic feelings toward each other as they both show signs of attraction and jealousy.

Read the book to go on an emotional ride with these two! I highly recommend. HEA and spicy scenes.

How great to return to the world that was opened up to us in Little Black Dress! I love the characters and the friends to lovers romance that this story brings. The story is amusing and sweet and at times very hot! Piper James is excellent at fun romcoms!

What’s a girl to do when your best friend who happens to be a guy ask you to be his wing-woman and help him figure out why his relationship haven’t worked? What if that help lead to some unexpected realizations about the depths of your relationship with each other? This was fun, humorous, and spicy with a dash of angst and a wonderful second book to the series I adore Piper James and can’t ever seem to put her books down till I’m done reading and this was no exception

TITLE: THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK 📘🎰🍩
⭐️The title had so much potential to be so MUCH MORE

⭐️But what we got was an app that took the backseat the entirety of the story. It didn’t have a direct impact on the storyline and it didn’t carry as much importance as Sophie’s “little black dress”

THE STORY AS A WHOLE
⭐️Was a MAJOR let down.

⭐️It is partly my fault because I don’t like friends-to-lover and honestly it just doesn’t have the angst, fire or chemistry I wanna read about.

⭐️ BUT it was also partly the writer’s and the story itself’s fault. The way it was structured didn’t make it even a little bit suspenseful. It just wasn’t a story I was itching to read. Just a story I was itching to finish so I could read the final instalment from this aerie and be done with this author and series.

Me: Sounds good. Shoot me your address sometime this week. Oh, and by the way, how’s your grandmother?
Stacey: Oh, she died!

⭐️It’s hilarious because I genuinely think that the characters make great jokes, ones that have me laughing through chapters. But the problem arises when I’m laughing even at the romantic and serious scenes because of how rainbow and sunshine they are.

My customers are smiling and satisfied, our profits are up for the seventh year in a row, and I have the best friends and family a girl could ask for.
Life is good.

⭐️Like look at this! What’s the fun in reading the book if everything is jolly.

“You should come on my dates with me.”
“What?’ I repeat on a laugh. “I’m not into three-ways, Sam.”
“Pity,” he says, then shakes his head to negate the joke. “Seriously, though, if you sat nearby and observed the dates, you could tell me what I’m doing wrong.”
“Like a wing-woman?” I ask, tilting my head in question.

⭐️The problem in the story didn’t seem like one. And the starting situation of wing-woman charade wasn’t laid out in a nice enough manner for it to carry the story.

⭐️All in all, I found myself skipping through sentences and even chapters at time because of how boring and predictable they were.

“Don’t tell Jared what I said about you being my best friend, okay? And definitely don’t tell Sophie. We all know she can’t keep her mouth shut.”

⭐️lol.

ZOEY
🩷I’m sorry but what was her personality? Because I didn’t catch it anywhere throughout the book. Like how can a main character just be a floating piece of name that does actions and reacts but the reader has no grasp of what makes them unique, and how they are pinpointed from a group. Nothing. Nada.

🩷The whole over reaction from her side when she misunderstood the scene where Sam was comforting Tabatha after the assault was so UNNECESSARY and so immature that I visibly frowned in disgust. Like chill out girl. Stop jumping to conclusions.

SAM
🖤lol. He was too Ken of a character for me to like.

🖤He might’ve been more interesting if he actually had a personality apart from his good looks. But nothing.

🖤And his choice in woman is absolutely shit.
“Lose my number, asshole,” she growls, then stalks away.

🖤Like why did two different woman, on two different occasion say the same thing to him. Loser.

SAM x ZOEY

What we have is easy and perfect, without all the angst, tension, and uncertainty of a romantic
relationship.

🩷Where was the chemistry? Where was struggle? Where was the fighting against their feelings because they are friend? Because all I saw was insta-love kind of scenario where both parties were just too coward enough to not admit it.

🖤The whole Sam going on a date whilst Zoey observes was a great plot idea. And it could’ve be hella interesting or even remotely romantic if THERE was something wrong with Sam, like he had a weird quirk that put women off of him and it was something that Zoey liked or accepted. The whole idea of making the women he went on a date to be the problem was so unrealistic and so unlikable because are you telling me that each and every woman was just not into him but agreed to go for dinner? And somehow they had such nice reason to destroy the date, and it was NEVER Sam’s fault?

And just like that, Sam has disarmed my loner brother and dragged him a little closer to the land of the living. Swinging my knee out, I bump it against his beneath the table. He returns the nudge, and I can’t hide my smile.

🩷Like yeah, it was cute how Zoey and Sam hit it off right after the dates, but not a single date was memorable in the sense to do justice to the plot line.

🖤 RANKIN FOR THE MALE LEADS: 🖤
1. Jared
2. Zeke (I like men who don’t speak a lot)
3. Sam (too vanilla for my liking)

🩷 RANKIN FOR THE FEMALE LEADS: 🩷
1. Sophie
2. Ava (she’s hilarious)
3. Zoey

🩷 RANKIN FOR THE COUPLES: 🖤
1. Sophie x Jared
2. Sam x Zoey

Book two in the author’s “Love in Las Vegas”: Zoey and Sam are brought together by Sophie and Jared’s relationship. They become fast friends and appreciate each other. Sam decides it is time to settle down and consults his little black book app for candidates. Zoey agrees to act as wing-woman to help Sam along. A series of interesting dates brings Zoey and Sam closer and closer…

**

Zoey and Sam’s journey from friends to lovers was great. As I read I could feel the relationship building and building. The anticipation was intense with a payoff to match. Their chemistry as friends was matched and doubled when they become more.

There was no drama (one of my favorite things about this author) and the miscommunication part of the story (because, of course) was quickly resolved. I did yell “why would you say that!” More than once as well as “just tell her!” But that is normal behavior for me.

The author writes friend groups so well that it makes me reevaluate the friends in my life! But, I’m still not the biggest Sophie fan. I am eagerly awaiting Zeke and Ava’s story. (My guess is there is a baby coming)

HEA
Standalone, interconnected characters

Trigger warning
Drug and alcohol references
Reference to SA

Book 2 sees Sam wanting to find love and asking his best friend to be his wing woman and help him figure out what he was doing wrong. After a series of disaster dates, each of which end with him and her together, he starts thinking maybe his attraction to his friend should be explored. She's scared of losing his friendship but wants him. She misreads a situation though, and feelings get hurt.
This book is for over 18 age readers. I didn't notice any typos, and can't wait to read the last friend's story.

piper james knows how to write a vibe

This is my second PJ book, after the Bliss List which I adored.
—-
The vibes are immaculate.
The setting was such a vibe. Finally not NYC so some other standard.
The banter
The buildup
The tension
More than one position
He had anxiety over the relationship while she denied it.

Then the 3rd act breakup happened. Sometimes these make sense. This one did not. Full on miscommunication trope.

The writing: 6 stars
The 3rd act breakup killed the mood. It’s gonna be 4 star for me, saved by the immaculate writing and vibes of the first 80%.

Awww! I loved it so much! I think this might actually be my first legit friends to lovers book and it was too sweet!

Sam and Zoey are the absolute cutest! Their relationship was so pure. Also, their love scenes were amazing as usual! Piper has a way with words that makes everything feel so real

Don't get me started on how awful all those dates were! Yikes! But it worked out perfectly for our pair:)

I cannot wait for the next book to find out what's up with Ava! Although I do have my guesses!

Book two in the Love in Las Vegas series and it’s a book you will love.
Sam and Zoe have been friend ever since Jared and Sophie got together from book 1, you follow there story where there is a little black book that play a big part in there story I thought the chemistry Jared and Sophie had was strong but these two there were a delight to read. Definitely a book to read.
Now waiting to find out what happened with Ava in book 3
This book definitely a 5⭐️ read

Who doesn’t love a good friends to lovers? Sam and Zoe have such a comfortable friendship and when those feelings deepen, they’re both in for a world of spicy fun! I loved the heat in this book, it was really steamy! Like slow clap 👏🏼. I love how Sam was able to identify the envy he was feeling towards people in relationships and takes steps to find a girlfriend by going through his black book! He even enlists Zoe’s help to observe these dates so he can figure out how/when they go wrong.

This was an adorable story between Sam and Zoey. It was a friends to lovers, that was a little bit different. Zoey was acting as his wing woman, going with him to various dates that ended up not going real well. The progression of their relationship was cute to see, as they both started to realize that they were starting to feel more for the other. I would have liked to see a tiny bit more conflict between them other than what happened, but it was still a great story!

This was a great cutesy romance! A sweet yet spicy friends-to-lovers that will have you laughing, smiling, and blushing.

I liked the premise of Zoey being Sam’s wingwoman, and instantly knew that trouble was going to ensue. Sam’s dates were ridiculous, but I liked that it paved the way for them to blossom into more than friends, so I won’t complain.

Piper James is spoiling us lately with how good her adult romances are. I can’t wait for the next one!

This is my honest review in exchange for an honest review.

I knew this was gonna be hot and it did not disappoint! But the fact it was laugh out loud funny, made me tear up, made me mad at some characters too, well that is just a Piper James special! Zoey is sweet and sassy and Sam is the ultimate good guy with a hidden wicked streak only for Zoey. This is friends to lovers done right. Definitely pick this one up if you love happy endings and steamy love scenes and all the parts in between!

Very cute friends to lovers book with sweet friends scenes that build great chemistry and great payoff in steamy lovers scenes.

After his best friend finds the love of his life, Sam realizes he wants to settle down and enlists his friend Zoey to help him figure out where he's going wrong... Until he realizes everything feels right with Zoey.

Really enjoyed this one and had a smile on my face after every scene with the two of them together.

Thank you to the author for an ARC.

OMG!! So freaking cute! I am just loving this series but I seriously love Sam and Zoey! I absolutely adore the lack of conflict and the friends to lovers concept. They were just so good together as friends and just even better as more! And their chemistry! So hot. It’s a yes for me! I just couldn’t put it down. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series too!

very sweet love story

Hot and spicy details but a sweet story under it all. When friends realize their feelings are more, it is always a fun ride as they figure out how to talk to the other half. Misunderstandings and near misses make for lots of laughs and groans as you want to yell at the characters. Fantastic read.

The Little Black Book is the story of Sam and Zoey. It was a unique friend to lovers, with Zoey acting as Sam's wing woman, observing and critiquing his dates. It took them a while to realize that there was a reason his dates went so badly. Not a lot of conflict, but a cute story. Although part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

Sam and Zoey are the best of friends
Sam is looking for a relationship but isn’t having the best of luck . So he asks Zoey to come spy and see what he is doing wrong. Quickly Sam and Zoey realize their friendship is turning into more with his “dates” often ending up with them together!
But will they risk their friendship for what could be a great love ?? You gotta read to find out !!!!

Cute and easy read. The miscommunication trope is on full display which I wasn’t a fan of. I also think I read the words “we’re just friends” way too many times and unfortunately, this book felt like it was almost as much about Ava and Zeke as it was Zoey and Sam.

it was ok. literally took me forever to read because it got really slow and boring at times. i also don’t like the miscommunication trope and felt it just dragged the book way longer then it needed to be. i liked the smut though so i guess it was worth it.
