Haunted Knight
There have always been ghosts at Greystone Priory, but now one particularly troublesome one is scaring people away from the estate. A great beast has been seen, and no one will come there to work. Helen Evans had found the perfect place to hide until she reached her majority. After her mother’s suspicious death, she did not wish to be forced into an unsavory match. Everyone thereabouts knew the Priory was uninhabited—and haunted, so she and her dog availed herself of its shelter. Everything was going smoothly until the owner and her cousins arrive trying to ferret out the ghost. Sir Martin Hardy is called home from London to see to the matter and finds a great deal more than he bargained for!

Elizabeth Johns

Like many writers, Elizabeth Johns was first an avid reader, though she was a reluctant convert. It was Jane Austen's clever wit and unique turn of phrase that hooked Johns when she was "forced" to read Pride and Prejudice for a school assignment. She began writing when she ran out of her favorite author’s books and decided to try her hand at crafting a Regency romance novel. Her journey into publishing began with the release of Surrender the Past, book one of the Loring-Abbott Series. Johns makes no pretensions to Austen’s wit but hopes readers will perhaps laugh and find some enjoyment in her writing.
Johns attributes much of her inspiration to her mother, a retired English teacher. During their last summer together, Johns would sit on the porch swing and read her stories to her mother, who encouraged her to continue writing. Busy with multiple careers, including a professional job in the medical field, author and mother of small children, Johns squeezes in time for reading whenever possible.

1. A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE - 5 STARS

I purchased this as a multi author bundle called O'Night Devine.

Sweet tale of second chances. The H and h were in love but circumstances forced them to marry others. They're two sweet children making the season bright.

Even though very short, you got a feeling for the character's. Only kisses, romance from before they separated still held. (ljb)

2. THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS - 4.25 STARS

I purchased this as part of a multi-author bundle called STAR OF LIGHT.

Spirt of Christmas is certainly felt in this delightful novella. A different take on the song Twelve Days of Christmas through Sermon's given! Just here and there told and it was delightful. The whole story is about two people given second chances.

The H lost his wife and child 2 Christmas past. What was confusing she was his mistress, whom he ended up marrying. He states he was forced into the marriage. I felt more needed to be said on this. I'm assuming she became pregnant and that's why he was forced?

The h was rescued from being forced into a brothel. Also, felt more needed to be said. The story felt like it may be part of a series and I came in the middle of the story. I've enjoyed this author's stories in the past and just felt this needed more telling.

This is a clean story with only a few kisses. Even though a short novella romance was felt. No cheating, HEA, some romance and clean. (ljb)

3. HAUNTED KNIGHT 4 STARS

I purchased this as part of a multi-author bundle called ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT DREARY, more suited to Halloween.

I did enjoy how the h was taking control of her life which wasn't easy during this time period. This story is about fake ghost and a real one.

The H is immediately attracted to the h and kisses her without actually knowing her, so little build up. Clean story with only 2 kisses. Some drama with the h's cousins trying to find her to marry her off.

All resolved very quickly. No cheating, HEA, no romance and only kisses. (ljb)

3.5 Two good stories and one very disappointing one

I have enjoyed the Gentlemen of Knights series and it is fun to get some stories for some side characters from the series. Unfortunately, the book is rather uneven in it’s execution. The second story was the best, in my opinion. It was sweet and lovely, bringing together two characters that we have seen in previous books in the series. It felt well-composed to fit in the constraints of the shorter format. The first story was also sweet, but felt rushed. The author got away with it because it is a second chance romance, but it still felt as if there should have been a little more time put into the relationship. The third story is where the book goes off the rails, so to speak. It felt ridiculous. It was short and rushed. The two main characters had barely any interaction. There are ways to justify how quickly the relationship progressed that can at least make a reader believe it could have happened. That didn’t happen here. It just felt so off. I also did not feel that the supernatural element was incorporated well. I was also very surprised to see a very basic title error in the third story. This author has written many historical novels and, while she does have Americanisms and some modern details, it is usually not too bad. I was disappointed that she would still make the mistake of addressing a baronet as Sir LASTNAME. That is not done in any circumstances that I am aware of. It is Sir FIRSTNAME LASTNAME, or Sir FIRSTNAME.

Overall, I think this has two good stories out of three, and I would recommend it for readers who have enjoyed the Gentlemen of Knights series. I don’t think it will be quite as enjoyable as a stand-alone.

You get 3 short stories that don't have much context to them but if you want lighthearted fluff to read, then this will suit. All 3 stories are very clean and I really felt like I was coming into the middle of the stories and had no clue what had happened beforehand. The last story was the true disappointment, it had so much potential but ended like a dud.

Delightful Christmas romance

I am a fan of Elizabeth Johns’ full length novels and her short stories did not fail to deliver. I particularly enjoyed the first two stories. The last one began really well but I found the ending a bit too far-fetched and out of sync with the rest of the novel - at least it had the happy ending I was hoping for!

Cute

I have loved all of the books in the Knight family series and this one isn't as involved with the Knights but it is fun to catch the references to their characters. Delightful and fun stories.

Three little short stories, a bit too short and they rely on your remembering who these people are but they’re cute.

Holiday nights

Great series of short stories. Involve the knight family, as they continue to help other family friends find their true loves.

Overall enjoyable, quick reads. The last story was too fanciful for my taste but it was very short.

Cute, quick little stories. Short stories are fun but I always want more. I enjoyed the tales and the quick love stories. Clean romance.

Lovely stories!

Just tying up some loose ends in these short stories! Of course, the Knight family are woven in the stories as these are all friends or relatives. Great read!

Three short but sweet romances. The first two were Christmas related but number three wasn't about a holiday.

Charming

Little stories of characters that appeared in the early books of the series and slowly disappeared. How nice to see their stories come to a close.

Really?!

Everything about it felt rushed, including the editing. Nothing turns me off faster than editorial mistakes. Unless you really don't care, it's not worth the read.
