I’m Jack Probyn, and I write murder mysteries and crime thrillers set in England. I studied Creative Writing at the University of Surrey and have always been fascinated by storytelling, particularly the dark and twisty kind.
I’m the author of the DC Jake Tanner series and the DS Tomek Bowen series, both packed with suspense, mystery, and unexpected twists. When I’m not writing, I enjoy building LEGO, solving sudoku puzzles, and occasionally going snowboarding. I live in England with my partner and our British Shorthair cat, Tommy.
When Jake Tanner steps into the darkness, he comes face to face with… The Wolf
Jake is back And this time he’s fighting to keep his job cause of budget cuts within the SO15. But when a movie theatre is taken hostage, someone has to take charge of the situation and save those people. A fast paced, captivating and exciting suspenseful thriller that keeps you on your toes and on the edge of your seat.
I enjoyed this new series. It was a wonderful read, the characters are well written and it was a great page turner. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.
Firstly I would like to thank the Author for my ARC copy of this book and i would definitely recommend to other avid readers like me. Me personally I Absolutely loved this book and would definitely recommend to other avid readers like me.
The first in a series of 9 novellas featuring DC Jake Tanner’s time in SO15 Counter terrorism unit. Jake is dragged into a volatile hostage situation which unfolds as a US army veteran takes control of a cinema.
Another intense mystery that has Jack trying to help with a hostage situation. His job might be on the line but he still will do everything he can to help. Fast paced, will draw you in and keep you there until you find out what happens.
So Jake Tanner has moved on to another job but he is still working too much and getting stressed out. Different story so we will see how it goes. Good story line,
The DC, who joined 2 weeks earlier, gets a call in the middle of the night: "there's a hostage situation, 200 people are taken, get down there, THEY NEED YOU!" The guy hasn't even started his mandatory courses yet.
Once at the scene, he pretty much is the only person who does anything, even though it's apparently rushing with cops. Even the Super is deferring to him. Of course, he (the new, untrained DC) is the one doing hostage negotiations.
The hostage taker, an American, demands to speed to the PM. Apparently he wants her to change weapon laws in the UK to mirror those in the US, because the hostage takers wife was killed in an house invasion of some sort, and he couldn't defend themselves because he's not allowed to own a gun. (even though, 3 pages earlier we are told that he's owned multiple guns illegally for years.)
The PM says no, not going down there. The DC tells her his mind in an unbelievably rude manner and calls her basically a useless coward. So she answers "okay, I'll be with you within 20 minutes".
All the while, the (obese) Super is waddling around searching for a microphone, sweating profusely.
