They say opposites attract. Or something. Jazlyn Windermere doesn't know about all that.
What she does know is that she loves her rapper boyfriend, Terio, and he loves her too. He just can't seem to stay out of trouble. His trial is coming up, and it's going to be a major media event, so Jaz is ready to shine for her man. But when a wrench is thrown in her plans, she finds herself at a loss, spiraling out of control.
Dallas Darrington is Terio's lead attorney. He's sharp, about his business, and ready to fight for his client, but it proves to be harder than he expected. Mainly because of Terio, but there's also the matter of Terio's girlfriend...who Dallas can't stop thinking about.
His growing feelings are a huge conflict of interest, and Jaz has absolutely no interest in straight-laced Dallas...at least not at first. He's not her type at all, but they soon find themselves drawn together by circumstances...and desire.
Can two people with nothing in common truly make it work?
***The Fox is book three in the Family Ties series, but it can be read as a standalone.
I love who the author paired her up with. Opposites in every way but they completely worked.
But Jaz was the one person in her family that was constantly underestimated. We were introduced to her as someone that owns a pink gun (in book 1) and that’s a little ditzy. We come to find out that there is more beneath the surface but I don’t feel like it was explored.
Both of them have some parental issues as well that I wish was expanded upon, especially for Jaz. Growing up with a narcissistic mother fucked her over. Her relationship choices were questionable. I needed depth there.
But there’s only so much you can do with a story that’s just over a 100 pages.
Nevertheless, looking forward to reading the last book.
3.5 stars! Jaz and Dallas were something different for sure. I wasn't sure how this was going to come together but it made sense. I felt some details could have been flushed out more along with more detail on the back stories continuing with the mother/Jakari/and Malika, the new situation with the oldest brother Nay, the black & white Hightowers, and where is Prez? Dallas's backstory I wanted more from because I feel like we just brushed the surface of why he is the type of lawyer he is today. I won't spoil the full reason but his family dynamic played a major part (and we didn't get resolve until 90% and it felt anti-climatic). Jaz's situation with Terio also seemed rushed and not flushed out, but again maybe that was the point because their relationship had been for show majority of their relationship and now it was just time to end it. I would like to know how Terio found out about Jaz and Dallas because I wasn't sure how that happened. I never thought about colorism with Jaz because she's always been the baddest girl in this book series so to hear her discuss was another layer of getting to know Jaz and her family more. They never let her skin tone be negative. Overall this was a fun and fast read but I was expecting more because Jaz was one of my favorites in books 1 &2. I thought the fast pacing was intentional but I wanted the story slowed down more to truly enjoy Dallas and Jaz. Especially the adrenaline kink they had going on. A lot of new leads going into this series and even those details I wanted a little more knowledge about. I see the vision and world-building but I just was expecting more from one of the best characters in the series so far.
I had to sit with my thoughts for a good minute on this book. I was expecting more from Jaz and Dallas’ story. These two were a questionable pairing but, oddly enough, they worked. They were opposites in every way but, had a weird fascination in common. I didn’t think it was possible but, they really did balance each other out and they made a cute couple. Given their tumultuous relationship, I expected to see more of Jaz and Gab on page. I wasn’t looking for any kumbaya moments but, I did think we'd get some kind of drama with them. There were a lot of unresolved subplots. Like, how did Terio find out about Dallas and Jaz and why was there no confrontation between Jaz and Terio?!!! You would think that would’ve come up during pillow talk in the next scene. They just kind of broke up without actually breaking up. We never did find out if Malika was pregnant. She told Jaz she had a doctor’s appointment but, it was never brought up again. I’m not too pressed about the mystery chic Nay got pregnant because, I’m pretty sure that’ll be addressed in the next book. Honestly, I didn’t think he would get a book. Three baby mamas and four kids; Nay has more important things to worry about than romance. But, I am dying to know who this girl is. Is she one of the Hightowers?!!! If so, is she from the black side or the white side?!!! We still don’t know what’s up with Prez. Where he at and when is he going to be delt with?!!! And, where the hell was Gab?!!! Other than one scene, she was MIA the entire book. Listen, you can’t give us a protagonist like that then, damn near disappear her from the series. Gab is a meddling, toxic narcissist who is always in her kid’s business so, I expect her to be more of a prominent character in every book. I may not like her azz but, she’s an entertaining character. Overall, The Fox was a decent read but it felt rushed, and it lacked depth. A lot of the scenes weren’t fleshed out properly and there were too many things that weren’t addressed. I’m hoping the author really takes her time with The Player and give us a book that’s as good as the first one.
If I read Jas's story as a standalone novel, my expectations would differ. I was a little disappointed in this outcome. The story touched on facets of the story, and I wanted more of the Jas from the second book. Parts of the storyline rolled up and parked in the middle of the street, with the doors open. I also know....the author has the right to tell her story, so that's my thoughts on book three. See what you think...3.75 stars
ready for this next installment mainly cause I still wanna read about Kari n Malika. I like Jaz and Dallas but their story was just ok. pretty sure Nays baby mama is that red head Kari use to mess with
3.5⭐️Jaz is a mess 🤦🏾♀️. And Dallas needs better preferences 🤷🏾♀️. But I did 😆 and it was entertaining 😉
Side note: I wanted more on Jaz and her mother’s relationship. I wanted to see her be the bad bitch I thought she was. I wanted to see her BE The Fox 🦊.
Jaz was an interesting girl, definitely not the brightest in the crayon box, but also not the complete flake she was portrayed as in the previous books. She was almost detached from her emotions and just accepted who people were. She didn't expect more than she knew they were capable of. She was also wild, adventurous if you will when dealing with men. That situation with Terio was beyond me, because they both had some selfish...tit for tat tendencies. She was also smart using the court room to her advantage. As things shifted Jaz seemed to be slowly changing with Dallas, but it was hard to tell since their relationship was heavily sexual. Dallas was an attorney that set out on his own to make a name for his new practice. He thought by taking on Terio's case he would gain some exposure and he wasn't wrong. Unfortunately he didn't realize how attracted he would be to his clients girl. They say opposites attract and that held true for these two. Although, their situation seemed to be fluff, no real base I was starting to like them together. Then the story just ended abruptly. Listen I don't feel like Jaz's story was complete, nor Dallas's. We missed the connection to Dallas's mom I feel like that was unfinished. Then where is this leading for Jaz? I know, well I hope more will be uncovered in future stories, but it was a huge miss not to tell it from Jaz's point of view.
Hmmm..... I was a bit disappointed with this one! I thought we would get more insight into Jaz, being seen as the dumb one and being overlooked by her mother most of her life! I like her, but I still think there is so much more to her, than was shown. Her relationship with Terio was toxic as hell, and I'm glad that is done! I mean, what was all of that about? Ughhh.... Dallas! There is so much to him as well, but we only touched the surface of his story. We really began to see it open up toward the end, when Jaz realized who his mother was! But, we got no answers or resolution! Gab is being too quiet, making me think she is plotting! I hope she gets a whole book so we can get inside of that crazy head of hers! Are we gonna find out if Malika is or isn't? Is Kari going to get out of his mess? Joe work yo magic dude! What the hell is up with Nay? Who he done knocked up, and why is he afraid to tell his family? He must be next with the story entitled Player! There is still so much story to tell about this family, and we hope that we get it all!
Well I'm a little disappointed. This was presented as a 3 book series, however there's no closure and the author states the story will continue in a different series. Never saw this done before. I'd definitely continue the story, I just hope it's released soon. I knew Jaz was a spitfire and looked forward to her story. I didn't expect her to be so promiscuous, especially in such a small circle. But the story was well written, as was the entire series. There's so much to be learned - does Jakari get caught? Who is Naz' baby mama? What happens with Gab now that she's no longer at the helm? Does Dallas reconcile with his father? I mean, I need MORE!
It had potential but I wanted it to be longer. Like 40 more pages longer abeg. Is that so wrong? Literally my mind said “what in the short story did I just read?” It also had a lot of unresolved subplots. And the relationship just seemed superficial af. I Hope the next book is longer.
This was a page turner. I really enjoyed and am looking forward to the next installment. I really hope that Jaz and Dallas can have that happy ending and do well in Atl.
Jaz and Dallas don't quite go together, yet then they do, in a very 'opposites attract' type of way.
I don't get Jaz attachment to Terio, besides that he's given her a lot of material things. He's disrespected her and she him, so I don't get their dysfunctional relationship 🤷🏾♀️. I'm glad he let her go so he can keep that confusion going with someone else. Jaz really seems like a good person. She's had to put on a facade due to who her family is, yet I hope with her new career and new boyfriend, she'll show more of her greatness; letting her true light shine.
I felt for Dallas. He really needed his dad, and once he realized his dad was the one that got caught up, it hit him like a ton of bricks; what he thought he knew, he didn't. I'm glad he had Jaz to comfort him in that moment. I think once they truly start to see how to be truly themselves with each other, this could be a decent couple.
I wasn't feeling the whole wild bedroom kink, yet if they like it 🤷🏾♀️...
I wanted more out this story than I got. Jaz is clearly more smart and clever than anyone in her family gives her credit for although her choices are questionable, in my opinion. She is street smart and calculated even when she's playing the role of the family ditz. I think the disconnect between me and this story as well as the rest of the series is this is what I have since learned is "urban fiction" and not "urban romance". There is a difference. I was hoping that Jaz and Dallas would have an HEA but besides the entire story feeling ... rushed ... they end on a "happy for now" I guess, with them both realizing that life and opportunities were taking them in the same direction - Atlanta and they unceremoniously decided Jaz was his Dallas' girlfriend. Im not saying I didnt enjoy reading the book, but I didnt love it.
When I started this series about a month ago with Jakari's book "The Prodigy" I did NOT think Jazlyn would end up being my favorite Windermere. While "The Fox" was short and sweet, it gave such good insight into Jaz's character and personality. She LITERALLY had me dying laughing anytime she opened her mouth or interacted with Dallas. I honestly wish her story was a bit longer but I appreciate the little bit of Jaz we got in this installment.
The end of the book says to look out for "The Player". Considering the last conversation Jaz had with her oldest brother, i'm thinking the next book is going to be about Nay and his hoe ways. Cant wait!
I was really expecting a lot more from Jax and Dallas’s story. I did enjoy it as much as the first two books in this series. I’m not sure why Jax is one of my favorite characters and I really felt like her story was rushed. I was glad that Dallas stopped her from doing something that could hav ruined her life Trio was areal piece of work😡. Just when I settle down with this book it ended with a huge clif hanger😳. I was so disappointment to find that ended that way Oh well I guess I’ll have to wait four in order to find out the answers to the many questions that I have 😏
The most exciting part about this book was Jaz's interactions with her siblings, I wanted to read about her and Eris but we didn't get that especially with him being the closest in age. Some parts felt rushed or too too short. But I'm still hopeful about the next part of the series
Jaz is a very complicated individual, I think she has too many people have an opinion or shape her into who she is now so I struggled to really see her, it felt like she was overshadowed like she did things or said things because it was expected of her, idk.
Shea Sanders, great read. How good did it make me feel to see Jaz coming into her own. Malika, gave Jaz the strength and the push to pursue her dreams. Jaz, never felt she belonged until she finally understands what it means to look at the whole picture instead of face value. Dallas, in my opinion is hot🥰 I'm so glad Jaz has thought about a new direction and I hope this blossoms into a real relationship. I know she is about to kill it with her decision. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Surprisingly I enjoyed this. I say surprisingly because Dallas is not my typical book bae. He wasn't all that assertive when it can to Jaz but you know that saying "opposite attract".
Jaz was straight up clowning Dallas in this beginning but after that one hit girlfriend got some act right real quick. Well I'm she still clown him but she was more nice about it lol. Looking forward the next installment and I already know Nay new baby mama is Malika sister.
Jaz and an attorney, welp we Al got a one🤣🤣🤣. These two were definitely an unexpected treat and I hope we continue to see them shine in the big city. Their love is genuine and when they realize what they truly have the food gates are opening and things are going to change and I think for the better. Ms. Sanders has this family running circles in our minds and it’s the best!
Disappointed ☹️! Honestly, I expected more substance from Jazlyn’s book “The Fox Family Ties - Book 3)” of this series. Both Dallas & Jaz were boring…The annoying equivalent to a superficial burn. ..initially sore, eventually a small painful blister, no medical care required and no visible scars or damage just apply vitamin E oil and or coco butter problem solved🤷🏾♀️‼️
This was a rollercoaster from the very beginning Jaz is not dense she just thinks differently and she allows Terio to get in her head and act like they down for each other when he really out for self poor Dallas is just in love with a women harder than him but he will change her for the good but jaz will hold him down…..but I hate cliff hangers 😖😖😖😖😖😖😖
Dallas and Jaz were hilarious at times. I laughed out loud at a few of their exchanges. But in the end, their smoking hot chemistry upstaged the witty banter and crazy antics that brought them closer. I would really have loved more from them. Looking forward to Nay's story, which I assume is coming up next in The Player!
This book showed Jaz in a very crass light! I didn't particularly like it much. Dallas really should have remained professional but I guess he let his feelings get in the way! Jaz and Terio had a toxic relationship. Reading the next novel and knowing the oldest Windemere has a secret should be interesting!
I told yall Kas wasn't slow! She know what she doing in them streets 💪But who knew D would be the one in the end...oh my gosh!!!! And I knew there had to be a bomb dropped in this one, and boy was it let go at the end...smh. I wouldn't have guessed all these pieces would come together like that; I feel some kinda way for Dallas. Finale her I come 🏃♀️
